"Sir!" they said as they snapped to attention.
"At ease, soldiers," Rex said.
"We need your help finding...something," Bliz said carefully. "But you can't tell anyone! Do you understand?"
"Sir, yes sir!" the two shinies said.
"I...lost a baby," Bliz said slowly, not wanting to freak out the shinies.
"You...lost a baby?" the first one asked.
"Yes," Bliz confirmed. "She was about this big..." Bliz held his hands apart about one foot, hugely underestimating the size of the toddler.
The two shinies stood silently for a moment before speaking. Rex watched on in interest at what transpired:
"Well..." the second began a little awkwardly. "I'm sorry for your loss, sir, but I don't think we can..."
"She's already gone, sir..." the second said even more awkwardly then the first.
Wait, Bliz thought, alarm bells ringing in his head, My loss? What?<

August 31st, 2021. 10:00 PM.
Sleep had rarely been an issue for Damian. He didn't require much and didn't particularly like it anyway. Sleep meant wasted time, wasted efforts. It meant another weakness, another need he had to satisfy before he could get into more important matters, such as the city at his hands. It meant time away from people, time away from the suit, time where he was lying on a mattress, completely vulnerable, with his mouth hanging open and drool dripping down his chin. Like some sort of mindless ape.
There were only a couple of things Damian actually enjoyed about the REM cycles his body forced him to endure. One, they made him forget things. When he was sleeping, it was easy to stop thinking about concerns of the past, present, or future. Second, they introduced him to dreams.
Now, dreams? He looked forward to dreams.
It wasn't like Damian to "look forward" to much of anything. His typical outlook on life was, "If there's a problem,

Maybe it was when I was nine, after I first met him. I had been separated from my mom, and Qui-Gon Jinn, one of the only people who had ever been kind to me, had died, killed by Darth Maul.
Who else was there to turn to?
No one else accepted me. So I turned to him, to my too-young master who tried and tried to be everything that people wanted him to be and hardly ever spared a thought about himself.
When I hugged him, throwing my short arms around his waist and burying my face in his robe, he stroked my hair and reassured me.
I didn't notice that he was crying until I looked up and felt the drops on my face.
I was amazed, frankly. My master, who was the perfect, emotionless Jedi, was crying. My overwhelmed nine-year-old mind managed to have one coherent thought:
Obi-Wan was beautiful.
His sea-green eyes were red-rimmed and puffy, and his nose was all red, but the rest of his face was pale and wet with the salty liquid flo

The Batgirl is sitting on the edge of a rooftop, her legs pulled up underneath her and a book resting in her lap. She looks oddly normal, oddly young, oddly human, considering she's such a creature of the night. She's different, this Batgirl. Her eyes are older, her legs longer, and her hair is shorter, coming down to the first fourth of her back instead of the middle.
Nell doesn't recognize her, and it's only then that it begins to settle in. Things have changed around Gotham City.
The book Batgirl's reading is The Scarlet Letter. It's probably a college project, Nell thinks. Mom used to talk about Nell going to college someday, back when there was enough money for Nell to earn a five-dollar allowance each week. But, it doesn't matter, because Nell learns everything she needs from the library or from Colin. Colin's the one who told her about The Scarlet Letter. He read it once. Didn't really understand it, of course, but he told her what he did

The lights got too hot I guess." He nodded, then kept quiet.
I felt really bad. I shouldn't have snapped like that, but with the other side yelling, everything gets irritating and confusing. Tommy was completely silent the whole time home. I almost felt like crying. His face was slightly squished up in a hurt expression, and I saw a single tear roll down his cheek.
I stayed quiet the rest of the night. Back at the hotel room I made myself some soup, then went to bed. Tomorrow was a flight to Indianapolis, only two hours, but still, a flight. Then a concert that night. I needed all the re

Sandy blond hair fell over the face of a young man aged by things that none should see. Vader was caught. Unable to make even the slightest of moves.
Sith lightning rained down on his child, resigned to his fate.
The inability to take action that had gripped him earlier found release. For a moment he looked at the body- the body, eyes wide open and glazed with death. The light that had illuminated his mechanical heart extinguished, and in a single ruthless motion his light saber found itself burred within his former master.
He did not know if it was the bionic prison that made lifeless flesh seem so light- or if it was his son's small stature, where he had undoubtedly taken after his mother. The corpse in his unfeeling arms might not have even existed.
Through the halls into his private docking bay the evacuating imperials took no notice of their solemn commander. In the ship he arranged him to be mistaken as sleeping, lest not for the lack of breath in his breast.

"Rex?" Ahsoka's voice was nothing more than a whisper.
Rex hurried to her side and knelt by her. He grabbed her free hand in his and held it. She squeezed his hand. Her grip was already weak. Rex glanced at her wounds and winced. They were far beyond his skill, or even Kix's, if the medic hadn't deserted years ago. Besides, what good would trying to save her life do when it would lead to her capture and torture? "I'm here." It was all Rex could say.
Ahsoka coughed. "You shouldn't be here, with them." Her gaze landed on Vishi, who crept closer, probably curious about why Rex was holding a rebel's hand instead of finishing her off.
"They're just kids. They need someone to keep them safe," Rex told her, guilt pulsing through him. All his true brothers, Jesse, Kix, and a few others, had deserted years ago while he'd stayed in the Empire, like the terrified boys he'd charged himself with protecting.

These drafted men made the most inexperienced shiny look like a seasoned veteran. Ever since they'd been forced into the war, Rex had made it his full-time duty to keep the boys safe.
Rex paced himself, running more toward the back of the row. Even with the twisting canyon, they were badly exposed on the trail. It was only wide enough for two men to run side by side and the lack of cover worried Rex. The rebels wouldn't miss an opportunity like this.
One of the higher ranking stormtrooper waved to Rex and the other stragglers. "Get a move on. The captain says those rebel
