How to make a viking dressI used to be a part of one history reenactment group some time ago. Such groups basically reconstruct elements of daily life of people from a selected time period; my group was interested in early Middle Ages, from the 8th to the 11th century, from the Eastern and Northern Europe. Personally, I used to reconstruct a viking woman from today's Sweden areas. Most of you will be shocked, but vikings were not half-naked barbarians with horned helmets. They had no horned helmets. Really. How to make a viking dress3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Anyway, my favourite part of reenactment has always been all the suit making. Buing materials, planning, cutting, sewing (hand sewing!), embroidering. Then, wearing. Generally, viking clothes are very easy to make, though I admit that the materials aren't the cheapest, if you want to make it as much accurate historically as you can.
Our goal: a simple dress, no emboirdery. This is actually my first viking dress I've ever made.
I've prepared a simple tut

Taking Care of Yourself
You know it's out there: the dreaded smell of unwashed bodies. At Sakura-Con, it's called H.O.B.O.: Horrible Otaku Body Odor. We here at Sakura-Con have declared the convention a "No H.O.B.O. Zone." To enforce that, we have provided a checklist that will help you keep that smell to an absolute minimum, and your con experience will be much more pleasant. Please remember to bring these things with you!
The Top Twenty Items Forgotten by Convention Attendees (a Checklist)
1. Personal towel. (We know the hotel provides them, but if you're sharing a room with several people, this guarantees you your very own towel. Also, if you plan on using a lot of makeup for a costume or dying your hair and use hotel towels, you will be charged a hefty fee for damaging hotel property. Please bring your own towels if you plan to do this.)
2. Shampoo and conditioner. (Again, the hotel provides these, but the bottles are quite small. Bringing your own ensures you

Welcome, and update!
Welcome to your bigger, better photomanipulation newsletter. We are pleased to bring you up-to-date information about things that are going on in the community. It's been a busy few weeks, and we have a lot to share with you!
Direct link requirements on DDs
I spoke with fourteenthstar and Moonbeam13, and we decided that you should no longer have to put direct links to stock pictures in order to get a DD. So, you no longer need to direct link your stock pictures for DD purposes. (You DO still need to credit stock, though!) However, many groups still require those direct links for submissions, and that decision is entirely up to the group administrators. We hope this change will help make suggesting and posting DDs easier.

Photography Troubleshooting: Capturing SnowThe best of the Wintery weather conditions often come later on in the season, especially here in the UK. The next week or so will hopefully provide many photographers with the chance to capture those snowy scenes. So what’s the best way to achieve them?Photography Troubleshooting: Capturing Snow3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
I’m sure many will agree that snowy landscapes are amongst the trickiest things to photograph. Exposure is the common problem; temperature is usually a close second! If your camera has a snow or winter setting then this will help override the auto white balance and lower the exposure, so you are already set to go. But if your camera doesn’t have these functions, then you might find these tips handy:
1.Before you head out, check your equipment. The white skies that often accompany a snowy scene are the most likely out of any shot you’ll take, to show up the dirt on your lens. Give it a good clean beforehand or you’ll be spending a long time with th

Because I do, and not in a good way sometimes, especially on my CMC picture.
People tell me they look like cows, or that they look like adults.
Yeah, no, that's my damn style, I'm sorry I don't draw stumpy basket ball heads, but that's my style.
People are making me want to redraw that picture because of the things they have said. I shouldn't have to, and I probably won't. (cos I'm too lazy lulz)
but yeah ugh...I just woke up in such a bad mood. Went to bed at 2 in the morning because I was struggling to upload and update. I'm dead tired and my hair looks like shit but im too tired to wash it. And I have a hospital appointment today which I am really not looking forward to.

People may unwatch me for this, people might not like me posting this, people might ignore this. But this was my week, my country's week through the lenses of various people.
My country is rising up to what can become a civil war. We are fighting for the right to protest. Our police has started yesterday to fire the first real bullets (versus rubber ones) against us. The media is lying about what's going on. The politicians are infiltrating people to destroy public property and blame it on the protesters, justifying police action.
But we will not back down. An idea cannot be killed, cannot be shot or arrested. We will keep fighting.
I've always wondered what it'd be like to live inside the world of Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Narnia, Comics whatever it is. Actually, most people dream of that, of being a wizard, a jedi,
Self Harm Awareness Day 2013: RecoveryHello allSelf Harm Awareness Day 2013: Recovery3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
You may have seen Nichrysalis's wonderful article on Self -Injury Awareness day already, but at this time of year, I always post an article on this subject too anually. Self Harm is a topic which is personal to me as I am sure it is to many others. It's been 8 years since I last harmed myself, and since then I have been involved not only in personal recovery, but projects and organisations that also offer help, information and advice to those who need it.
Today, March 1st, is Self Harm Awareness day all over the world. It is a day where people are encouraged to look beyond stereotypes, ask questions and try to understand a little more about self harm. It is also a time where I feel it is important to speak out about personal experiences and raise the awareness beyond sharing the facts.

Alien Isolation Q&A with bradwright
Brad Wright, longtime deviant in the dA community, steps into the shoes (space boots) of Giger and Moebius as a concept designer for the Alien Isolation videogame. The game reportedly marks a return to the terror of the original “Alien” film in which scaring the audience to death was the goal, rather than the uncorking escalating levels of defensive firepower that defined the sequels.

If someone tells you you're beautiful, your first instinct is to deny it by saying you're not.
Lies. Lies hurt and they destroy us and they break our hearts, day after day and month after month. The sickening truth is that we believe these lies, we believe that we're not loved, not good enough, not anything enough.
And you know what?
I'm sick of believing this lies myself.
For years, years I've been telling myself these things, and you know what? They don't do me any good. None whatsoever. I was talking to someone and I asked them how they could be so happy, so positive all the time, and you know what he said?
"I choose not to be unhappy. I don't like the way it feels, so I'm not."
I got upset at him for saying that. He's human, he has to feel unhappy!
Has the slippery slope of depression brought me this far to thinking people have to be unhappy becau

Before the discussions grew into debates, I was already blocked from the group by the founder.
Though I do not agree with her views and am disheartened with how people look at us, as WMV photo-manipulators, she does reserve the right to how she wants to run the group, as highly unfair as it may seem. I see this is starting to grow more and more personal toward her while looking at the comments in the group, and I'm not very fond of it. ):
I find the reason why I am upset is NOT because we are so easily cast aside (though still upsetting), but because we are hardly considered 'art' now. We are talent-less with no skill and have put no effort into our work in the eyes of some. Why? I don't know. There is potential in all of us, no matter what genre. There is digital art that I would hardly consider 'skilled', but that does not mean I would ever decide, based on a piece that I did not enjoy, that all digital art is unac

Do you enjoy art passionately and are considering doing it as your job, but have some worries such as;
Will I enjoy it as much as a job?
Will it be hard getting a job?
Will I become a starving artist?
If you're like me, you're asking yourself those questions and are letting them give you a hard time deciding whether or not to pursue art professionally. My health teacher told me, as we digressed from our topic of smoking, that to know whether or not you want to do a job, you have to hear what it's like from someone who's already doing it. That's why I decided to do an interview with professional artists on dA to give me, and hopefully many others, answers to these burning questions and an idea of what it's like to be a professional artist.
Okay, well let's get to it then
This is quite long so if you'd like to jump to a section, here are the questions I aske

And then the lover, Sighing like furnace, with a woeful ballad Made to his mistress' eyebrow.

It seems there is a most frightening psychological conundrum when considering the concept of demonic possession even the most remote possibility of reality upon our earthly plane is the notion that just believing it may be true could very likely be the spark needed for the Demon to discover, seek out, and ultimately inhabit its next vessel of evil: You.
