Coming OutIt's true, I am Chinese and I was born this way.
At a young age I began to notice this difference. I was attracted to neither boys nor girls. In middle school, I liked math, and in college, I did my homework all night long.
Being Chinese is not a choice, it is genetic. There are risks to being Chinese because society cannot accept the union between a human and a textbook. I have Chinese friends who didn't need sex because they could foreplay instruments and get screwed by O Chem instead. Now, they don't have a social life and are shunned by others.
But fear not, life will get better. I grew up as a Chinese and I am proud of it (just look at my tumblr user name Maid-en-China ). There is the LGBTC (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Chinese) community to help you be comfortable with your Chinese orientation.

Need for ToleranceFrom Reddit:Need for Tolerance3 years ago in Personal More Like This
(This is pretty obvious so I didn't think I need to point it out but it seems that some people need to hear it: No, I don't think all religious people are like this. Yes, I do know these are extreme cases. But the point is that these are all recent events and we shouldn't live in a world where this kind of intolerance still exists. I've lost count the number of times that I've been harassed by Christians so the next time you see someone picking on gay people, saying atheists should be killed, don't be a bystander and just let it happen. Speak up. Stop a crime before it happens.)
The Roommate Adventures of ~THE SUNKEN SINK~While I was too busy stressing over the issues with the 1000 Words book and trying to fix the problems, I failed to mention some other, sillier, problems we've had since moving to a new apartment. The Roommate Adventures of ~THE SUNKEN SINK~2 years ago in Personal More Like This
It went something like this:
Roommate: Wenqing!!! The sink fell!!!
Me: ...What?! (in my mind: Silly roommy got her English all confused. She must have meant something fell into the sink)
After going to the bathroom
Me: Holy crap! The sink fell!!!
The sinking sink, the sunken sink, the sink sank? Thinking of sinking sinks lol
And then the other roommate came home and was (in her own words) " ┻━┻ ︵ヽ(`Д´)ﾉ︵ ┻━┻ "
But as the first roommate put it: "The good thing about not having a bathroom sink is that you can just reach through the counter where the sink should be to grab whatever is underneath."

Is Invisible Children Trustworthy?Since I posted the Kony 2012 video, a lot of people have been telling me that the organization is not to be trusted with donations and is under investigation (but raising awareness is still good). I don't know how much of it is true, but it's good to at least take it into consideration. Is Invisible Children Trustworthy?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Here's one of the many messages that people have been telling me. Please read carefully and judge for yourself:
" I do not doubt for a second that those involved in KONY 2012 have great intentions, nor do I doubt for a second that Joseph Kony is a very evil man. But despite this, I'm strongly opposed to the KONY 2012 campaign.
KONY 2012 is the product of a group called Invisible Children, a controversial activist group and not-for-profit. They've released 11 films, most with an accompanying bracelet colour (KONY 2012 is fittingly red), all of which focus on Joseph Kony. When we buy merch from them, when we link to their video, when we put up posters linking to their website, we support the organization.

Artworks from when I was just a childWhat is up! I was tidying up a room the other day and came across a box of my old drawings, I really did draw a lot back then. So when looking through them I decided it might be a good idea to take photos of them and show the public. I am sure it may make you feel better about your art after seeing mine! I'm not really positive what normal protocol is for finding skeletal remains on your property. I can't say I've ever sat down on a rainy day and been like.. "Hm.. kind of humid today. I should probably read up on what to do in event of bones showing up on my front lawn."
And you know, it wouldn't even be a HUGE issue if it was, say, a femur. Even an ulna! I'd just assume a cartoon dog moved in next door and, at most, I'd have to chide him for his slovenly habits. (After the inevitable half hour of wacky hijinx, of course.)
But no. It's a spine. Or at least, part of a spine. A particularly large hunk of spine. HOW DOES SOMEONE MISPLACE THAT. Especially so neatly detached from everything else.
Actually, it's occurring to me, I should probably take a picture of this, because I can already feel the wave of 'pix or it didn't happen' responses. And you are entirely in the right to ask this. I'm sending Zombiesmile out now to snap a ph
In case you didn't know...I was really happy to see people discussing and helping each other understand SOPA and PIPA in the journal comments yesterday. I noticed some comments that asked the same things so here's some quick information:In case you didn't know...3 years ago in Personal More Like This
If you don't know what SOPA does, dA has actually provided a great journal explaining the bill and the consequences http://hq.deviantart.com/journal/Join-a-SOPA-and-PIPA-debate-280023798?utm_source=deviantart&utm_medium=header&utm_campaignebateSOPA_011712 and this website has a lot of information on how to protest against it http://americancensorship.org/ The fight is not over yet!
No, my journal and icon wasn't really censored. It's to show what would happen if the bill became law.
This one is a bit annoying. Quite a few people were saying "People, stop jumping on bandwagons to be cool!" Or "Why is everyone talking about it now instead of when it first came out? You only care because it's a trend now? I new about it way back in 2011." Um, excuse me, but please don't live in

I've lost count of how many times someone, be it a big corporation or an individual, have asked me to illustrate for them for free. It will always go something like this "You draw this for us, and we will include your name in the credits. That's good publicity for you!" as if such a pathetic offer holds any merit.
There was one specific case where a guy wanted to use my drawing as a book cover but didn't want to pay. He said he might print up to 50,000 books, so that's like an amazing offer of 50,000 views for me right? Wrong. 50,000 is nothing. We live in the information revolution. Don't forget we have places like Deviantart, tumblr, and all those social networking sites. Sharing art, like sharing any information, has never been easier. Questioned by the Hong Kong PoliceSo where was I? Oh yes I was gonna talk about my experiences with the Hong Kong police, so here goes. OK this is the problem, whenever I visit Hong Kong I always have the fear of being questioned by the police, well not exactly fear because I've got nothing to hide, but whenever I am alone walking on the street and a policeman on patrol sees me, they would ALWAYS 100% stop and ask for my ID. For those ain't familiar with how things work in Hong Kong is that if they see a teenager (Especially male) on the street not in their school uniform during school time or with dyed hair or pretty much just 'gangster' or suspicious looking, they have the right to stop you in the middle of nowhere and question you. Now I match every bit of suspicion possible, what they are trying to check is if there's any sort of crime around the area so they can narrow down the suspects, or to check whether you are legal to be in Hong Kong, or whether you've got drugs on you. Not a very happy birthdayFirst of all thanks everyone who wished me a happy birthday, I really do read everyone's messages but won't be able to reply all of them but I do feel the love! Thanks once again But before we get too happy I would like to once again bring everyone's mood down to a depressing level. I wasn't sure if I should write this in the first place because it really is a sad day and whether the general public should know about this is really questionable, I mean it is supposed to be a family matter and I don't usually put my personal life publicly online unless its funny (Trust me the Ry you see online may not exactly be the Ry in real life, I could be a 50 years old bald man in his Pikachu undies you never know.) But then again I thought if I don't write this online then I won't be very honest with myself, its not like I should hide my feelings just because I don't want the public to feel sad for me. And I do know that I try to be entertaining and funny in most of my journal entries because huNot a very happy birthday3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Internet TimeWe had the Oscars recently and as usual it wasn't without problems. One of the controversies was Chris Rock's biting commentary about doing voice work for animated films, which was unfortunately insulting to the many hard working (yet perpetually unknown) talents who produce about 90% of all voice work in the animated medium. Chris Rock's joke was funny for his circle of friends and the aging academy, but to younger artists and professionals it was very disrespectful. Voice actress Tara Strong took particular issue with Rock's comment and as we speak his twitter account is no doubt being flooded with angry hate messages and likely racism too... which is very unfortunate. http://www.examiner.com/african-american-entertainment-in-national/tara-strong-attacks-chris-rock-over-oscar-2012-animation-comments-quotesInternet Time3 years ago in Personal More Like This

She was a goddess in the machine, our search engine.
We used her to collect and share knowledge and in return she had started to use us as her processors. It was an unexpected transition and it took a long time, thus I failed to notice it, failed to stop it. The new organism had come to life in which we were only neuron cells of her massive mind, that spanned continents.
Humanity no longer had a chance to survive in it's current state. We had poisoned the oceans, we had scorched the earth and blackened the sky in our quest for power.
The world we knew was dying. I knew that this decade would be our last. The city would fall to the Zone, sooner or later.
Research notes from the last report of Charles Snippy terrified me greatly. They had found something horrid in the Dead Zone. Something that killed them all.

The recently announced changes to the core mythos of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and the backlash from fans over the ending to Mass Effect 3 have ignited an incredible discussion about the rapidly evolving “collaborative” relationship between producers and consumers of videogames, movies, and similar “products.” Now it’s exploded beyond the secure borders of top news publications, gamin
Sins of an ArtistI've been under fire recently for having the audacity to admit publicly that improving my art has never been, and never was, an ultimate goal of mine. Apparently that's like committing some sort of mortal sin in the art community. I've had trouble expressing myself about it too, because brushing off improvement for improvement sake makes me look like I'm uncaring, egocentric, and stubborn. But after a recent post I was given much more clarity in understanding the issue and I wanted to share my thoughts with you.Sins of an Artist2 years ago in Personal More Like This
In the recent exchange I was basically told this: "If doing what you love isn't about dedicating your life to improving your art, you aren't an artist."
Maybe I'm old fashioned, but making art has never been solely about the technical expertise. Even in college, outside the handful of foundation courses you take in freshman year, perfection of the craft is often secondary to concepts and ideas and your ability to evoke feelings and emotions in your audience.

I called my mom who instructed me on how to do CPR over the phone while she was hurrying home. But I was too

It doesn’t matter that I’m not a little kid, I still pick up pennies for luck when I see them. Though they have to be heads-up, of course. I also refuse to walk under ladders, I don’t open umbrellas indoors, and I try my best to avoid cracks in the sidewalk. It might be silly superstition, or maybe there’s something more to it.
