First Journal Entry Ever! All right, so I finally decided to write a journal.First Journal Entry Ever!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
So, first order of business: Acen. I am super excited for Acen. Starting the ten day count count down, for Acen, right now! So, on account me having no life, and as general rule not really liking people all of my costumes are pretty much finished. I have to pick up more material this weekend and then they'll be absolutely done. I have to say, I am exceedingly bored without a project to finish. I really do have no life.
So my line up for Anime Central, in no particular order is
Utena Tenjou from Revolutionary Girl Utena
Alois Trancy (kimono version) from Kuroshitsuji season 2
Making of Kuroshitsuji version of Alois from the Kuroshitsuji OVA
Hades from Saint Seiya: The Lost Canvas
Matryoshka version of Piko Utatane from Vocaloid ( :iconiris-iridescence: tried to "surprise" me with the costume)
and the one I'm most excited about: my own costume for Crona from Soul Eater
After borrowing :iconwickedsuchi: 's I decided to make my own, inclu
The Passing of Ray HarryhausenFew people outside of film geekdom and kaiju fan circles seem to know just how important a figure Ray Harryhausen has been to the art of cinema and special effects. The mastermind behind the modeling and stop-motion animation effects of films like CLASH OF THE TITANS, THE 7TH VOYAGE OF SINBAD, JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS, and the film that is said to have influenced GOJIRA's production more than any other, THE BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS, has passed away at the ripe age of 92.The Passing of Ray Harryhausen7 months ago in Personal More Like This
Ray lead a hell of a long, fruitful life. He gave us all so very, very much, and now is not so much a time for mourning as it is a time for remembrance and celebration of a life well lived.
Many will recall that my first full one-shot comic was WRATH OF THE TITANS: CYCLOPS, a tribute to Harryhausen's immortal imagining of the Cyclops. Ergo, Ray had a special place in my heart.
My friend and writer Richard has penned a nice article on Harryhausen, in which he includes a brief recounting of my own meeting with the specia
FaunArt ContestDo you like Mermaids, Fauns, or Dragon People?FaunArt Contest2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Would you like to win an Amazon or Zazzle gift card?
And by doing so, you can support an upcoming novel, Faun!
In order to help spread the word about Faun, and the launch of the new website ( http://faunnovel.com/ ), a small contest is being held.
Faun is a fantasy novel that is inhabited by fauns (duh), merfolk (why else would I be posting here?), dragon-kin (the dragon people mentioned above), and humans; instead of the typical dwarf and elf staple.
Contest rules and submissions can be found here: http://faunnovel.com/faunartCompetition
Submit only your original work. Photo-manipulation is OK, but it must be YOUR PHOTO - not stock or stolen. Do not steal or trace others' artwork.
Work must relate to Faun story/characters/world. I don't want to have to define the word "fanart", so this should be logical. Original characters are acceptable, but must fit into the world.
Subject of art must be appropriate
The ugly side of the cosplay communityI wasn't going to write about this, because my sis and I don't care about people who spend their time posting hateful comments about cosplayers. Though, I like to share my thoughts with you all. I've heard and seen the cosplay group I was with, The iDOLM~ster, was featured in sites where many commented negatively. To be honest I laugh and feel sorry for those commenters. The ugly side of the cosplay community9 months ago in Personal More Like This
You all have probably seen it, people whine about anything like how the cosplayers look, the way they sew, the way they pose, etc... "Omg it's not perfect!" Who in this world is perfect? No one. For instance, I can't help it, but I like to make derp looks in photos XD
One of the main points they bring up on cosplayers is their looks. When I was young I was stupid. I was very critical about myself and everything that happened around me. All of that has changed though. I have a scar across my belly and I bet many girls wouldn't want that, but the scar means a lot to me. It reminds me that I was near death and the doctors

The chaptered comic strip, has been collected into a 100-page graphic novel – and to the still-uninitiated:
It is not quite like anything you’ve probably ever seen before. The story follows “Zee Captain” and his sidekicks as they amble through a post-apocalyptic landscape. And while that hardly seems new and different, it’s the unusually superlative graphic quality of the comic cells and the Monty Pythonesque dialogues and leaps of logic that can become quite mesmerizing. Zee Captain, his face hidden by a gas mask that gives him a Darth Vaderish look, wears what looks like a Soviet Red Army uniform from WWII, and the strip does have nourish WWII feel. It’s as if the nuclear holocaust on Hiroshima and Nagasaki had never ended and spread to every major city on Earth. But
Morrowind FeatureMorrowind Feature2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
The Elder Scrolls III Morrowind is my favourite game of all time, and it will always hold a special place in my heart. I've been planning for awhile to put together a game-inspired feature; unfortunately, it is very hard to find genuine fan art since most Morrowind-related deviations on dA are game screenshots (or manipulations thereof), and I found only a limited number of devs I could use.
For those unfamiliar with the game, Morrowind is an open-ended first-person RPG with an expansive and detailed world, released in 2002. The central plot concerns the deity Dagoth Ur, housed within the volcanic Red Mountain, who seeks to gain power and break Morrowind free from Imperial reign. In addition to the extensive main quest, there are detailed discursive quests for a variety of factions, including various guilds, religious organizations, and aristocratic houses.
Lord Voryn Dagoth had been a good friend of Lord Indoril Nerevar, but they tu

Character Design: An introductionCharacter Design: An introduction11 months ago in Art Features More Like This
Arvalis-2012 by `arvalis
What does 'Character Design' mean?
The character design is the process which comes after the characterisation and consists in defining the character through his/her physical appearance.
We need to consider a character as a little fictional creature, human or not, that aims to please its creator and the public as well.
While the basic characterization of this fictional creature (his tastes, his fears, his behaviors) may take a little mental effort, as it is a sort of list of emotions, facts and feelings that come and go in the life of a character, the process of visual realization of this creature may not be as simple. That's why many writers and characters creators prefer to rely on experienced hands.
Also many of the mental aspects of the character are not possible to gain by using 'static' visual medium. For 'static' I mean all the illustrations and drawings unable to tell a

Elitism, bullying, and lack of humanity in cosplayThe talented ~Yuuri-C wrote up a journal earlier on about her thoughts and feelings in regards to the nastiness she's received as a cosplayer. It influenced me to dwell deeper from both a personal and a third-person's perspective, to bring awareness to this ugly dilemma. It's quite ironic, actually- we cosplay to escape a dull and shallow world and yet it somehow seems to seep it's way back in.Elitism, bullying, and lack of humanity in cosplay9 months ago in Personal More Like This
I myself have been a victim of bullying for a very long time. First through school, and now through minor cosplay groups with a peculiar vendetta. It got to me at first, because I found out it was those close to me that were the perpetrators, but these days I see it as a laugh. I'm actually happy people go on 4-Chan and bitch about how much of a "slut" I am or how "fat" I am or pathetic my costumes are. It's all talk. They'd never say it to my face, and if they're so bored and insecure about themselves that they have to target me, then cheerio to that!
I may sound like an up-myself twat sayi
United Colors of SMRPG - DONE!!Edit:United Colors of SMRPG - DONE!!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
It's done, folks! Thank you all for participating!
Here's the final result:
It's time for United Colors of SMRPG. Or if you'd like to go by the game's full name: United Colors of Super Mario RPG - Legend of the Seven Stars. Today is March 9th and it has been 16 years since this game first appeared. Best time to start this!
The rules are still the same but for all them people who are new here, this is the deal. The idea is to draw a SMRPG character and make one single color dominate the picture. Further down this journal are all the rules neatly stated.
The goal of this project is to unite fans of SMRPG from all over the world and express the love for the game in a single picture that is a mixture of styles, characters, preferences and ofcourse color.
I assign everyone a 500x500 pixel square, you draw in it, and in the end I put all the drawings together in one big collection.
You'll have to reserve a spot, so read the rules carefully below, a

The 16th anniversary of SMRPG is next month! Let's pull together and celebrate on March 9, 2012! Free range celebration antics! Do whatever you wish to celebrate the anniversary of Geno's debut and we'll feature the stuff next month. On-site, off-site doesn't matter.
"Why the 16th anniversary? It's an odd number to celebrate." That question may have crossed a few minds and the answer is this: Due to the backlash from the club's first contest, the general atmosphere afterwards left little desire to celebrate anything. The anniversary was forgotten and by the time either admin noted it, the date had passed. So SQ got it in her head to try celebrating the next one rather than wait 5 years for the next traditional celebratory number. (This was before the computer rebellion.)
From time to time we stumble across cool remixes from Super Mario RPG and will post them on the group blog to share. Unfortunately, because of the quantity of decent

Yes, YOUNG JUSTICE fans, the sad news is now official. This very popular show will -- Reach-- its abrupt and premature end with the conclusion of Season Two. It is with a heavy heart that I confirm the reports. Of course, none of us was able to say anything about it since last year. It was a very fun ride. As for the reasons behind the cancellation, I can only say that it was beyond the control of WB Animation, and that the decision was made by the powers at Cartoon Network (bless 'em). On behalf of the producers, and the rest of our dedicated crew at YOUNG JUSTICE, I would like to express our deepest gratitude to all the loyal fans who supported us, who shared the dream with us, and who will continue to love the YOUNG JUSTICE universe

The New Street Photographer's ManifestoFebruary 7, 2013/by $techgnoticThe New Street Photographer's Manifesto10 months ago in Art Features More Like This
Street photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson called it the “decisive moment”— the captured instant when all the photograph’s elements come together to tell a story in a way a text narrative of thousands of words could never begin to. It is what hooks people, both practitioners and advocate-devotees, on the art form. It is uniquely completely immersive in life— step out into the streets— in which the moment of artistic epiphany can never be guessed at until it suddenly happens. When it is properly mastered, it is as pure as the dawn of each new day, as true as the living organism of a teeming street scene catching a breath as one.
It's no easy task to pull a book together for publication and "The New Street Pho
