1. Hello! For the beginning, could you tell us something about yourself?
Hello! My name is Šárka, pronnounced Sharkah. I’m a 20 years old student of biology at Charles university in Prague. I come from the south of Czech Republic (the country with beer) , from beautiful South Moravia (the region of wine). I have a tarantula called Ungoliant and I love everything related to J.R.R.Tolkien.
2. When did you read Tolkien's books for the first time, and what impression did they leave in you?

As the first one in this series, I talked to one of the most popular Tolkien artists on this site, :icongold-seven: - Gold-Seven. At the beginning, a little sample from her gallery:
And here are the questions already:
1. You are an outstanding artist and illustrator of Tolkien's stories. When did you read Tolkien's books for the first time, and what impression did they leave in you?

1. Hello! For the beginning, could you tell us something about yourself?
Hi everybody! What to say... I am homebody that draws things for a hobby, and doesn't have nearly enough time to do so as much as she'd like. I am a student (though not for long) and like to let my mind wander with Tolkien (and others) when number crunching gets to be too much. I'm Catalan, female and study chemistry and engineering.

Contest Theme: Gingitsune Kaen
That's this guy right here:
All entries in this competition must be pictures of this specific character, who has been voted the most attractive male member of my Bleach Universe by no small amount during a somewhat recent poll. I've been looking to buff up the art on him for some time. But I've been busy spreading the love around, which leaves me the perfect opening to exploit him for use as contest fodder! And exploit him I will!
Contest Dates/Timetable: March 1st to April 1st - Midnight to Midnight (EST)
The contest has officially started and will end on the stroke of midnight (EST) on April 1st. Placements will be announced and prizes will be delivered before April 10th, during which time myself and the other four judges will sort out the scores and votes and selec
A concise guide on how to get better at artSo youre a kid looking down at your anime or comic characters and wondering why after a few years of doodling things arent looking like how you imagine them in your head. Or maybe youre a college student whos wondering why the colours in your paintings arent coming out right. Maybe youre an older fellow or lady whos dabbling in art and youre having trouble with drawing hands. Whoever you are and whatever your problem, you all have something in common;A concise guide on how to get better at art7 years ago in Art Features More Like This
You want to get better at representational art.
Here on deviantart its often the case where a noobie will ask a question and another noobie will answer with the very uninspired answer of "practice practice practice." At its core this advice is sound, but the noobie-teacher has just regurgitated what he or she has heard a thousand times over from other would-be noobie-teachers and has not expressed much else. Diligence is the key, but without a direction or goal this diligence might be

Welcome to the third of many Community Volunteer interviews! Community Volunteers are responsible for many things here on DA, one of them being Daily Deviations. Since Daily Deviations are the focus of this group, we thought you might enjoy interviews of the folks in control of the features! The third edition is with Thiefoworld, our Digital Art CV, we hope you'll enjoy the read!
1. Why did you choose to become a CV? Is the job what you expected it would be?
Well this is actually my second time as a CV, the first time was back in 2009 for Comics & Cartoons, I went back in 2012 for Digital Art. In both cases it was because I love the community and wanted to contribute in some way, to give back a little of what it has given me. I love featuring people, making activities, posting articles, etc.
It was better than I expected, the team is incredibly friendly and embracing and we support each other and talk a

The Wizard's journeysDear friends, it's time to tell you about my dream project, graphic novel "The Wizard's journeys".The Wizard's journeys1 year ago in Personal More Like This
In the beginning it was small story about strange person with ghosty legs, who had found friend and companion in victorian England. Then story became bigger (from 22 pages to 60), and it was redrawed. And in 2012, I realized that it was time to make graphic novel. And in 2013 we've printed first book of "The Wizard's journeys" (so much work, 150 pages, 5 months of drawing, and then was editing etc.)
And now we are in process of editing second book.
Some teasers for first and second book.
So. Now I want to introduce main character. This is Lith, person with ghosty legs.
He travels between the worlds trough the magic maze. And he loves funny hats, yes!
He was found and raised by seven sisters, nothern goddesses. They are goddesses of deseases, night and magic, of course. They were gone with Lith's world, and
How to Write a Good Fan FicOr, how to write fiction in general, focused in on fan fic.How to Write a Good Fan Fic2 years ago in Personal More Like This
However, I am a Hetalia fan fiction writer for two years now, so it is more directed towards the Hetalia fandom.
So, I have never actually thought about doing this before until this past week, and I know a lot of people have done this, so you can probably find a better one than mine. Since I am finally back from hiatus, I thought this would be a good thing to do for aspiring authors or at least people who want to write better fan fics. I am by no means an excellent writer, but after about two years of writing fics, I have learned a few things that make fics better.
Okay, this is the most important rule of all. It is so, so important to spell correctly and use correct grammar because trust me, there is nothing that makes people close the tab so much more quickly than when a story is written sloppily, with little attention given to basic writing principles such as spelling gr

Well if you're an American citizen, you're protected under that infamous law known as the DMCA, or the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. If you right click your ripped image and select properties, youll be able to see the address where the image is hosted. If its photobucket or some other easily accessible site then you have it easy and you know where to go to find a support email address. If your image is hosted on a dot com, youll need to do a WhoIs search and the name server that is listed will usually give away the company that is physically hosting the site. You can then get in contact with most sites through a webmaster or support email if you take a quick look around their site.
So now you know where your image is, what company is hosting it, and how to get a hold of them, then you scratch your head and ask

dA Life #08: Hosting a Contest on dAWelcome to the eighth dA Life blog, a series created to help you enjoy your time on dA and use it's many tools for sharing your art, appreciating other people's art and taking part in the wonderful community that we have here.dA Life #08: Hosting a Contest on dA3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Hosting a contest on dA is a really fun way to inspire other artists and do something positive for the community. If you've never run a contest before, it can seem like a daunting task so to make it a little easier, here are some things to consider before you create your contest and open it to the deviant public...
Your contest should have a theme. It can be as vague (Aliens, Summer, Cats) or as specific as you like (Alien Cats in Summer). When choosing your theme, take time to consider it's appeal to your potential entrants. A less specific theme is likely to attact more people as the scope for entries is wider. It depends on whether or not you want your contest to be huge - sometimes, bigger isn't always bet
Possible Bases For Hetalia Fan FictionsThis is what happens when I'm alone in my room watching Deadly Women and I decide to look through my bookshelf, because I totally just found an old book I have about monsters from all over the world.Possible Bases For Hetalia Fan Fictions3 years ago in Personal More Like This
And then I thought of Hetalia. And then I thought up a totally legitimate excuse to post a journal about about it.
I was just thinking about all the opportunities these legends offer for Hetalia fan fictions of all kinds, including reader inserts. These would have a more mythical, historical view, a combination I know a lot of people enjoy, including myself. I think these subjects are things that could and should be included in a little more often. After all, a lot of people do like a good story. I picture reader inserts where either a country is telling you a tale from their homeland for whatever reason (like you can't sleep), or maybe the myths are actually true and you're living through them. And because I have nothing el

I tried to create an optimal route for them to get across the entire globe. Some people will have to send them farther than others, but I can't do much about that, unfortunately. The order in which you'll get them is as follows:
Here is a (very schematic) map. If I missed a few... hundreds... kilometers, sorry I mostly just marked the states, not exact cities. If you have any troubles with this route and want to change it, or if you think you see a more eff

Why Rock, Paper, Scissors? D:I understand that scissors can beat paper, and I get how rock can beat scissors, but there's no way paper can beat rock. Paper is supposed to magically wrap around rock leaving it immobile? Why can't paper do this to scissors? Screw scissors. Why can't paper do this to people? Why aren't sheets of collage ruled notebook paper constantly suffocating students as they attempt to take notes in class? I'll tell you why. Because paper can't beat anybody. A rock would tear it up in two seconds. When I play rock paper scissors, I always choose rock. Then when somebody claims to have beaten me with their paper I can punch them in the face with my already clenched fist and say, oh sorry, I thought paper would protect you!Why Rock, Paper, Scissors? Snapey goodness: now with prizes!I had no idea that little one-off Severus Snape comic page would make the rounds the way it did. It sort of exploded my inbox here and on Tumblr. (A lot of people are feeling the Harry Potter withdrawal pretty hard right now, so it's not a huge surprise, but still.) It looks like it made a lot of people overwhelmingly sad, which was exactly the opposite of what I expected... but at the same time, it seems to mean something special to a lot of people, which I'm so grateful for. Getting this much attention for any reason gives me the heebie-jeebies, but it's been very nice this time. Awesome, even.Snapey goodness: now with prizes!4 years ago in Personal More Like This
SO awesome, in fact, that a number of people have already written some amazing fanfic and made gorgeous art with that little comic in mind, and I wanted to share it with everybody!

Passion for Art'Passion', I use to hear this word from lips of people that love what they do, from people that work hard, from people with ideals. They don't need to look weird or fantastic, wise or intelectual, they are just normal people. People that are in love with their work.Passion for Art3 years ago in Personal More Like This
'Passion', like when we drew for first time, when we were kids taking a notebook trying to fill these pages with our heroes, the things we wanted, we dreamed, our house, our family, our pets, etc.
'Passion' like first time somebody broke our heart and just a piece of paper and a pencil could console us. Like when our parents argued and we felt so frustrated having nothing to do just to define our rage in some doodles.
It's like something that comes from us without asking for permission, it just appears and burns, we don't search for it, it is something that we "suffer" but is according to our actions, our work, our effort. it is stimulated for the things that move us.
I hated art many times and I loved
What's the Deal with Commissions? Something I've seen around Deviantart for awhile now, and I was curious as to what other people thought about it.What's the Deal with Commissions?1 year ago in Deviant Events More Like This
It seems so often I see many artists complaining that they cannot get anyone to commission artwork from them. They go to great lengths to try and sell their skills, and some even adjust their prices to next to nothing or DA points.
When people don't bite, they ask me, or on the forums, "What am I doing wrong? I only want 100 points and no one buys them"
There are many artists such as myself who sell art/prints etc etc because we rely on it as a part of our income, but many of these people still live at home, or are in school. So, 100 DA points ( for example), which is $1.25 , is not really going to help anyone with bills or rent, or much of anything else.
And yet, there they are over and over, very upset and depressed that no one buys commissions from them.
When artists ask me how they can better market their work so people will buy it,
