KMAC For June 2012: RhedosaurusThe one and only Ray Bradbury, author of many modern classics of science fiction and fantasy, has died today at the age of 91.KMAC For June 2012: Rhedosaurus3 years ago in Personal More Like This
In honor of him, we're dedicating this month's art jam to a prehistoric giant he helped create, which in turn, went on to inspire many other such monster films, including the original "Godzilla".
"The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms" is a 1953 film that was loosely adapted from Bradbury's short story "The Fog Horn", which told the tale of a lone dinosaur who mistakes a light house and it titular horn, for one of its own kind.
Of course, the Rhedosaurus of the finished film, isn't quite the same figure from the original short story (he's quite mean actually), but is a conceptual spawn of "The Fog Horn" regardless - especially since Ray Bradbury was involved with the film's production. It should also be noted, that Ray H

What Godzilla: Heritage is:
From an initial idea formed in late 2009, Godzilla: Heritage's concept has drawn the interest of several talented artists and actors - non-fan and fan alike and is now entering pre-production status. The film seeks to return the Godzilla mythology to its darker roots and ground the character and some of its memorable kaiju in an altered continuity that explores a world where they have been a staple of everyday life for almost 60 years. The project will utilize traditional suitmation and miniatures as well as more contemporary effects. The film is a non-profit project . "Godzilla" and all related charac
Ray Harryhausen 1920 - 2013Today I just found out that Ray Harryhausen, one of the greatest stop motion pioneers who ever lived, the man behind such great films as The 7th Voyage of Sinbad, Jason and the Argonauts and the original Clash of the Titans...has passed away at the age of 92. He was such a big influence on me and was one of the reasons I wanted to be both a filmmaker and an artist. He's also influenced such other famous people like Tim Burton, Peter Jackson, and even George Lucas. Later this year, I was planning on doing a countdown of my absolute favorite creatures he has done, and now that I've heard this news, I shall devote the countdown in his memory! But for now, rest in peace, Ray. May you be reunited with your friend, Ray Bradburry, and finally see the dinosaurs like you wanted to when you were a kid. We shall all miss you.Ray Harryhausen 1920 - 20132 years ago in Personal More Like This
Hachiko WaitsThat book. I was reading one of those children's books about this Akita dog in Japan. I thought that since it was a child book, it would have a happy ending and what not. But actually that book made me cry not even half way through it. Its a really good book. You should read it. They also have a movie called Hachiko Monogatari. :3 Watch it on YouTube. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_DpcrP10leQHachiko Waits4 years ago in Personal More Like This

An explicit reference to the way human characters will be explored in the film I could hardly believe it was a Godzilla movie for the first 15 seconds!

52 Hertz Whale:
Is Anyone Out There?
Each year he makes his migration south from the Aleutian Islands to a breeding area in the Pacific Ocean parallel to Central California, looking for a mate. Unlike other blue and fin whales, his more than 6000 miles a year round-trip swim is a solitary one. He does not travel along with the blues or the fins, because he is neither. He is most probably either a hybrid blue
Nature Has An OrderSo yeah, as some of you may have noticed, I have returned to DA after a thousand years of cosmic exile...Or it might have been a few days, hard to tell..."looks off into the distance as he relives painful memories of withdrawal" o_ONature Has An Order1 year ago in Personal More Like This
LOL, anywho, my new modem is up and running so I'm back in action here, should be able to post some new DA commissions soon. I was gonna do a new "Hammer Horrors" review for Dracula 1972 A.D., I couldn't resist when I discovered some hammer films on demand XD, but the modem issue prevented me from doing so, but I may get around to it eventually when I have the time. Meanwhile however, I have this supremely awesome new Godzilla trailer to share, perhaps the best yet since we get an even better look at the Big G this time! Godzilla is simply breathtaking in his new form, blows the kaiju from Pacific Rim right out of the water! Still love those guys mind you, but this is THE KING >8D
Hope ya enjoy the video gang, and Happy Easter everyone (and happy
KMAC For Dec 2011: They Freeze Again! The Kaijuden Monthly Art Challenge for December 2011: They Freeze Again!KMAC For Dec 2011: They Freeze Again!3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Last December (2010), we had an art jam where artists drew their own sub-zero dwelling giant monster creations.
Well, we're doing it again this year, but this time around, the scope will be broaden to any kind of frost / ice / snow / tundra / arctic / Pluto dwelling giants, wither they be original concepts, or pre-existing characters from other media.
Just remember that your 'cold monster' has to be giant in size of course - preferably thirty feet in height and / or beyond.
Again, your illustration's subject can be anything species and character wise, just as long as it's somehow related to freezing temperatures and similar environments. And in some good taste of course (no extreme gore or sexual content).
This art jam ends January 3rd, and we'll be looking forward to all of your submissions.
Have fun everyone!
