Homophobic #ToMyUnbornChild tweets turned into PSACharlotte Moore (Cavatica) from Raleigh, North Carolina has created a PSA against homophobia after the Twitter hashtag #ToMyUnbornChild attracted homophobes to publicly announce that they would murder their child if he or she was gay.
#ToMyUnbornChild became a trending topic on Twitter a few weeks ago, and while most people used it to write loving tweets to their future children, some homophobes decided to do just the opposite.
@Homophobes, a Twitter account that retweets homophobes to expose their ignorance, published an article of 100 extremely homophobic tweets, which gained quite a bit of attention around the web.
Charlotte Moore was inspired, and decided to write and direct a PSA using the tweets. The video was produced by Brian Lee and Nick Heim.

Using a traced base is like being the last segment of a human centipede.
You're not even just tracing, you're filling on top of something that was already traced for you.
It's the epitome of laziness. It's recycled shit in your mouth. It's anti-art.

Self Harm Awareness day 1st March 2012Self Harm Awareness day 1st March 20124 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Today marks an awareness day over a subject that can mean many things to many people. Self Harm (or Self Injury) is the act of physical damage to oneself, usually as a coping strategy for expressing deep distress or coping in difficult situations. Self harm commonly is associated with cutting, but can also refer to any physical damage to the self including burning, hitting, taking overdoses, swallowing chemicals, bleaching, hair pulling ( trichotilliomania), scratching and so forth.
You may know what it is, but it is often the reasons why that people are not familiar with. There is still this belief and stereotype surrounding the type of person likely to harming them-self, but the truth is, it could be anyone no matter what gender, culture or age. The reasons behind self harm can be such a huge variety- different people cope in different ways with different distresses. Such issues that may trigger self harm might be bullying, t

Gallery Description ProjectMost of you probably are aware that deviantART has a lot of categories. As you've seen over the past few months, we volunteers, in coordination with Moonbeam13, often help to orchestrate various changes in category structure in order to make the submission and browsing experiences simpler and more advantageous for the community.Gallery Description Project4 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
That said, there's another aspect of categories which, sadly, often have been overlooked. I'm referring to the Gallery Descriptions. Over time, gallery descriptions have fallen into disarray, leaving many categories with old and outdated descriptions, others with incorrect descriptions, and yet others without a description at all.
At the moment, gallery descriptions are most prominent when submitting new deviations. However, as part of this project, we hope that they will become more evident as you browse the site. One of our goals is to make a simple, navigable category structure focusing on descriptions that are clear, concise, and consistent.
CEA Blog: Mature ContentHey guys, today I want to talk about Mature Content on deviantART and hopefully clear up some misconceptions that exist around it. For those of you eager to look at some boobs and hot male torsos, I'm afraid I won't be including any here .CEA Blog: Mature Content4 years ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
How the mature content filter works
All members over the age of 18 can choose to enable or disable the mature content filter to suit their needs. All members with a registered date of birth under the age of 18 have the mature content filter locked on and can not disable it. All logged out visitors have the mature content filter enabled and can not disable it.
The mature content filter is split in to two types, strict and warning. The strict filter is completely voluntary and prevents any deviant with the mature content filter on from accessing the work. The general or warning filter is the standard mature content tag and will remove the image from immediate view when browsing and place an warning page on the devi

How did you first discover deviantART?
A long time ago, a friend of mine mentioned that there was an art site, something new and still fresh, and he directed me to deviantART, thinking I could make an account and mingle. I used to spend a lot of time looking through the backgrounds, and the anime/manga, but I didn't settle in to an account name for good until a few years ago.
What was it about dA that made you want to stay?
The community, for sure. A lot of people complain, a lot of people think there isn't a proper one, but you just need to surround yourself with people you want to be around. I've met so many people on deviantART who are brilliant, sweet and talented, people I will never forget. I'm glad I took the time to develop a relationship with the community when I first came, and I'm glad I continued to cultivate it in the years since.
It also gave me a place I felt I belonged - there isn't

Daily Deviations UpdateHappy Monday MorningDaily Deviations Update4 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
I started this morning by signing something "Moonbam13" so either this typo means I need more coffee, or this week is going to be BAMTASTIC!
I'm rooting for the latter
I wanted to post a quick update on changes to Daily Deviations. It is important to note that these changes have not been hard-coded so my team is manually following these new guidelines. This means that errors can and likely will occur until the coding is complete, your patience and understanding is appreciated
The following guideline changes are in effect:
The 3-month rule is now the 6-month rule, meaning that it must be at least 6-months since the last time an artist received a daily deviation. (This was an overwhelmingly popular suggestion from the community and I agree, it's a good one!)
Daily deviation selectors may only select one daily deviation per day maximum. This has been put in place to focus on Quality vs Quantity.
So you want to be a CV...Sometimes I like to wander through the communityrelations group, and I always come across comments from people so willing to become volunteers, I constantly come across people who say "Applied for ___ gallery!", "I can't wait to be 18 to apply!", "I so want to be on the team!", there are some who list the complete CR roster in their personal profiles, who openly say in their tagline, signatures or devIDs "Hoping to be a CV one day", etc. This is specially evident in the The Community Relations Team journal, where the opening positions are listed. So you want to be a CV...4 years ago in Art Features More Like This
To those people: take this journal just as a personal opinion and a friendly advice from a fellow community member, someone who loves the community and is willing to contribute and give back the way one can. This comes from my personal experience, shouldn't be taken as the whole Community Relations nor deviantArt's official stance.

Recently, I announced changes to Daily Deviations in this journal and I'm happy to say that the response has been favorable. To review, we have made the following changes:
a> The "3-month rule" is now the "6-month rule" meaning an artist cannot receive another DD if they have had one in the last 6 months.
b> Daily Deviation selectors are limited to a maximum of one selection per day. This has been put in place to focus on quality vs quantity.
The hard-coding of these new guidelines is now in place (special thanks to ZombieCoder for that ).

Many have noticed that I've begun posting the Deviousness articles and I'm happy to take any suggestions you may have for future recipients. Simply take a moment to note me with your suggestion and why you feel they are the the deviant to end all deviants and I'll add them to our list for consideration
Some have also noticed that :faq29: has been updated with a suggestion form. The reasoning for this is pretty simple. Selections are made by a group of people, not just me, and having the information in one central location is the easiest way for us to share thoughts. There was always a plan to move suggestions to a form, it just hadn't happened yet
So to recap:
1. Deviousness suggestions -> send me a note or an email (firstname.lastname@example.org)

I know that many deviants have had a rough past year. I know I have. For some, it was the economy, for some changes in their families and loved ones, and I know for some it has even been on deviantART. We have all had struggles, but this time of year, whether you celebrate Thanksgiving or not, is as good a time as any to thank people for what we DO have.
In this world of little, we all have something we hold dear to our hearts. Now is the time to say thanks.
So, what I would like to invite everyone to do is in the next 48 hours (Today + Thanksgiving), fave this journal to show your support, then comment with 4 things you are thankful for:
1 thing on deviantART you are thankful for
1 thing with your family, loved ones, friends, etc. you are thankful for
1 thing in your life you are thankful for

Spirit Day 2012"Ultimately, I want Spirit Day to make just one person feel little bit better about his or herself, to feel safe enough in their own skin and to be proud of who they are" - Brittany McMillanSpirit Day 20123 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
In memory of the young LGBT people who lost their lives to suicide, Brittany encouraged her friends to wear purple on a day in October -- a day that came to be known as Spirit Day. Since then, GLAAD has helped turn Spirit Day into a global event that inspires millions of individuals, celebrities, TV personalities, media outlets, companies and schools to wear purple in a stand against bullying.
While Spirit Day does focus on the LGBT community, I believe that it's anti-bullying message is relevant to every community. It only get's better, if we take the pledge to make it so.
Practice compassion and understanding, and treat others how you would like to be treated and we can make a difference.

Project Educate: Critique Week Welcome to Critique Week!Project Educate: Critique Week4 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
For the majority of us on DeviantART, critique is an essential part of our experience and development as artists. As much as we love praise or positive comments from our nearest and dearest, most of us are seeking to improve our craft and to be able to shape our Art more effectively. Some of us purely post our work here to get that all important feedback and the extra special people amongst us are on here to give it.
However, to get critique is not always as easy as slapping up our latest piece into our gallery and wait for the responses to come flooding in. In fact if you genuinely want good critique, you do need to make a bit of an effort to get it and get effective, constructive feedback in return.
This week at communityrelations, we are using the power of Project Educate to have a whole week dedicated not only to how to get critique, but how to give it, use it and make the most of what deviantART can offer and hopefully show you that
Thanksgiving Note Project 2011... begins now!Thanksgiving Note Project 20114 years ago in Personal More Like This
For the past three years, "some guy" by the username of ikazon has organised the Thanksgiving Note Project. It has steadily gained more participation as the years go along, and last year there were over 200 participants.
What is this?
It's simple! It's a project organised on the occasion of Thanksgiving. Is there anything you feel thankful for? All you have to do is send me a note and tell me what you are thankful for. It can be a single word, a line, a paragraph... you can be thankful about a small thing or a big thing... all of it counts. Anybody can participate. You don't have to be in the States and you don't have to celebrate Thanksgiving in your country.
What should my note look like?
Here's an example of what your note should look like.
When can I send my note?
