FailureWell, this is awkward.
So, I guess my plan had some minor flaws. Namely that when you tie up deviantART staff with yarn and lock them in their office supply closet, they can use scissors and letter openers to break free. I even put a mirror on the inside of the door to confuse them! How did they know that was the way out? They're some smart humans.
They broke free, activated their laser pointers, and regained control of the servers and databases while we were dreadfully distracted. Now, everything is back to normal on deviantART. Worst of all, they said we "were very, very bad" and that they were "disappointed in us". That guilt is hard to live with, my friends.
We're back to drawing board now. No, we won't give up hope of total world domination. We're so close, I can feel it! Watch out, world! This isn't the last you'll see of FUR.
But world domination will have to wait until another day. Who's ready for a cat nap?

Welcome to the new deviantART. We're on our way to making this site what it should be -- the perfect haven for cats. Our announcement here explains everything you need to know about our takeover.
It's been a dream of mine to take over deviantART ever since I was a young kitten. Especially once fourteenthstar banned me for being underage, even though I was clearly over 13 in human years. But now, I'm back and ready to take charge.
Phase 1 was a complete success. We've taken control of all deviantART's internal controls, including taking Fella hostage. Good luck trying to free him! 15,000 deviations is a lofty goal.
Phase 2 is well underway. Have you seen our educational facts pop up? Have you learned what a group of cats is called? This is all crucial information for you to remember as our new subjects. It will be on the test.
Anyway, you're free to go about yo

Missing the PointI've been noticing a trend lately where people seem to deliberately be missing the point behind stuff in order to complain. I used to think it was just me, as I watched people write up lengthy articles nitpicking and "debunking" a comic I made because they simply missed the point, but I've started seeing it happening to other people too.Missing the Point3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Recently over on The Oatmeal, artist Matthew Inman made a joke about guy gamers vs girl gamers. The joke was pretty simple: A guy gamer makes a mistake and gets bitched out by his fellow teammates online. Contrast to that, a girl gamer makes a mistake and her fellow teammates try to comfort her, tell her she's doing great, and make suggestive comments about hooking up. To me the joke was clear, guys treat girls differently online. However, that's not how the rest of the internet saw it...
From what I've read of the whole Oatmeal flare up, the reasons for the hate seem grounded in the fact he depicted the girl as blond and bubbly (ie: stupid) and not as

We collected a list of comments from the release article and some journals and here they are, with my responses for all to see.
First, part of being in a community is being understanding. deviantART Staff faces this daily as we understand member concerns and try our best to serve you.
In situations like the one we face right now with Journals, I ask you to be understanding with us as we battle with difficult circumstances balancing the needs of millions of members.
Any change we make creates frustration, but if we do not make changes then we are killed by change itself.

Q: Were people complaining about the old journal system at all? Because I think people were rather happy with it. I know I was. And can't you give people t

Okay, let's get this ball rollin'!
I've been meaning to set up this contest for a while now, and now that I have a sufficient number of prizes I thought it'd be nice to get it all started. Here are the details:
Draw my OC Smeargle Kid with a brand new design! All contest entries can be viewed here http://crlyxx.deviantart.com/favourites/49265729
A bit about Smeargle Kid: He doesn't yet have a name, I'm working on it, lol. Anyway, he's about 11-years-old. He's fairly innocent and he loves to paint (kind of self-explanatory). He has a tail that excretes a green, paint-like fluid, just like the pokemon Smeargle. Because of this, green has always been his favorite color. That's about all that I have about him, haha.
1) He needs to keep his hair style, his eye color, and his ears. You can change his hat and the rest of his clothing, but he

Reid is a senior member on deviantART who has been on the site for six years. Reid is also doing concept work for Jupiter Ascending, an upcoming 2014 sci-fi film.
He had posted a journal about his work on the Hunger Games back in February, but wasn't able to upload his work right away. He posted this deviation to his deviantART gallery yesterday:
"I had the pleasure of doing a lot of design work on the control room in the movie, from the interfaces to the holograms and such. Hybride in Montreal did a great job bringing it all to life, and it was fun seeing their tests and the f

I'll be doing another journal like this really soon, so watch out for this.
The 'winners' will be receiving their points really soon
I just realised I have and I'm never going to buy anything on dA. So I decided to give most of them away!
Here's what you have to do:
FAVE THIS JOURNAL
For every 30 faves(or less if this doesn't get faved too much!), a random person out of these 30 will get some . It might be 10, 20, 30, I don't know, I haven't decided yet. I'll list the 'winners' as I go along.
Please do not fave/unfave because I'll be keeping a list of usernames as this gets faved(if it gets faved at all )
:iconprosaixplz: Your time starts now :iconprosaixplz:
EDIT: First few winners coming soon!
EDIT2: Lol looks like I'm one of these people

#ToMyUnbornChild became a trending topic on Twitter a few weeks ago, and while most people used it to write loving tweets to their future children, some homophobes decided to do just the opposite.
@Homophobes, a Twitter account that retweets homophobes to expose their ignorance, published an article of 100 extremely homophobic tweets, which gained quite a bit of attention around the web.
Charlotte Moore was inspired, and decided to write and direct a PSA using the tweets. The video was produced by Brian Lee and Nick Heim.

Username changes?I had to kind of do a double-take when I realized DA just introduced this feature.Username changes?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
You know, there was a time when I wanted to change my name to ANYTHING other than SonicRocksMySocks. I thought it up when I was 15 without realizing I'd be saddled with that alias for potentially a lifetime.
When I started gaining renown on the internet, there was even a time where I considered making a new DeviantArt account JUST to change my username, but by then my reputation was already cemented. It's silly and childish and doesn't fit a 20-something artist who is trying to get serious about her art...
After working on my 8th DeviantArt anniversary flash and going back to my roots, it sort of dawned on me.
No other username fits me better.
Maybe I was embarrassed of it for a time, but now, after 8 years, there's no way in hell I'd ever be anybody else. My art is ABOUT childhood and youthful spirit, and that's what I remember when I think of my nickname. It reminds me of where I ca

ParodiesSo here’s the thing. Ever since my “stop doing sexist things” joke in SYAC a while back, there have been a number of parody comics about me and my views floating around tumblr and DA. Granted, parody work of my stuff has been there since the very beginning of SYAC, but these are actual comics themselves not just reskins of my own art.Parodies1 year ago in Personal More Like This
And you know what? That’s perfectly fine. While I will flag work that takes my actual artwork and just changes the text to be derogatory, if you actually make the work yourself... then it’s fine. Everyone is entitled to their opinions. And while I may block people for being assholes to me or my fans, that doesn’t mean I actually want to “censor” their right to speak anywhere else on the internet.
In the past I have tried to use the law to take down certain things. For example, I tried to get KnowYourMeme to remove their user article about me, because it was obviously a carbon-copy of the E

After today's strip there will be 5 more and then it will be done. Sad to see it go after doing 200 episodes. This has been one of my favorite comic related jobs I've ever had and an incredibly steady and reliable one at that. I personally would love to keep doing this job for a couple more years, but Brent and Dan both want to move on to other projects and we've all come to the mutual agreement that 200 is a perfect stopping point. Nothing lasts forever, ya know?
To be honest, I am a little surprised brentalfloss: The Comic lasted this long. Things were a little rocky at first, and it took all 3 of us a while to get used to each others sty

KEEP IN MIND PLEASE: In some parts of this there is personal opinions but I have included facts which can be backed up by research and by searching the internet as well. I've tried to cite sources as much as I could and give sound evidence when possible. I cannot be held completely liable if some information is outdated and I'm unaware but I would be glad to learn the updated information IF you have it accessible.
Now, let's begin!

I was taking a photography class at Hogwarts and Snape was our teacher. I think Ron and Harry might also have been in our class but I never did see them. Our assignment at the time was to get ten outstanding photographs of animals in their natural habitat and he told us we had to roll up our pant-legs and go wading in a swamp full of alligators and poisonous snakes if we hoped to get any good ones. He meant this literally. This was our assignment. (Oh, Snape! )
So I actually did it; I took off my shoes and wandered into the bog, dodging snakes and snapping away. I took so long about it that I missed the start of critique and I sort of ran into Snape with some of my classmates on a bridge while I was headed back to the castle. He was reviewing their photos (and grading ruthlessly, as he does). He saw me and said, "What are you doing? You knew we had critique."
I answered, "Yeah, I kn

For a rather long time now, there have been massive complaints against doll and base-makers. Accusations, saying that base/doll creators can't actually draw anything on their own, and that they're simply unoriginal, creativity-lacking tracers.
You know what, though? If these makers/dollers weren't as popular as they were, you wouldn't give them a second glance. You wouldn't give a flying pickle, and you know it. You'd go about your business and wouldn't even half-bat an eyelash. I have several good friends who are WONDERFUL artists, both in AND out of dolling/base-making. Working with bases also helps curve one's proportion accuracy, as well. Personally, I rarely use them, but I can safely say that I've learned a thing or two from when I have used them.
It just really eats me up to see people ca

Ideals vs CharactersI am always amazed at what ends up being “controversial” in my artwork. While with some works I KNOW it’s going to be controversial (such as any time I bring up politics or religion), there are often a lot of times where I just make a gag strip and think nothing of it... only to come back the next day and see people writing up ESSAYS on why it’s the worse thing ever.Ideals vs Characters1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Granted, I have the undesirable position of having a lot of people following me who insist on inserting drama where no drama really exists. So part of that is just the fact that I’m semi-famous on the internet. And still... It just baffles me how quickly people feel the need to see the worse in everything.
Right now, the past couple of NSYAC strips featuring Emily and Jade have gotten some... interesting responses. There seems to be this strange perception that Emily MUST conform to some arbitrary standard of a righteous educational achiever simply for the fact that she’s going to colleg
