ShatterThe anguish in his eyes haunted her.
When she closed her eyes, she saw him staring at her with as much love as there was pain in his body, reaching out but not knowing if he could touch her, if he should touch her. When she went about her business, his presence was overwhelming, his biotics humming such a sad tune that her biotics would whisper of her ache for him, for his comfort. He had been in her squad for weeks now, and had taken residence in the observation deck. He didn't push things with her, didn't demand she make a decision, barely talked to her at all when she didn't initiate the conversation.
For her part, she rarely spoke with him.
It wasn't for lack of a want to she wanted to be able to talk freely with him, to be able to use his shoulder and have him hold her like they used to be in another life, but things aren't so simple anymore. She couldn't just rush to his sleeper p
Taking my Time A few days later, she found him at Apollo's Café, sitting at a table and looking as though he was trying desperately to keep his mind off their impending date he had asked her on. 'Probably fears the worst. All things considered, can't say I blame him ' she thought to herself, idly smoothing the black leather of her dress. She was grateful that Dr. Chakwas had held onto her old dress from when she aided Kasumi in recovering Keiji's graybox. 'That PVC dress in my closet that Traynor found ' she suppressed a shudder at how downright unflattering that dress looked. Traynor had good intentions in adding that to Samus' wardrobe, but this one was more stunning, to say the very least. She sauntered over to the empty spot at the table he was sitting at, her black lace pumps clicking with each step. She stopped just before the chair he was occupying.Taking my Time2 years ago in Short Stories More Like This

His heels clicked against the floor of the hallway leading to her cell.
Were his thoughts not a jumbled mess, were his heart not in his throat, hammering out any words he might have been able to form, he might have paused to ponder why so few people were in the normally crowded hall. Perhaps that was for the best; he was so anxious he wasn't entirely certain that he could have said anything to anyone how he was going to form words to the one woman he needed to speak to more than anything in the universe was beyond him at this point, but he pressed on nonetheless. He recalled the last time he felt this way, the last time he looked into her sapphire eyes and heard her voice, and his heart sank at the thought that both were in the same memory. His words that day were things he only barely thought of before he said them- and only now was he trying to come to terms with the repercussions. Thoughts flitted in and out of his mind like smoke

Things were never easy whenever Shepard was involved. Kaidan would have liked to say he was surprised when Anderson had told him that Shepard had surrendered to the Alliance after venturing into the unmapped Omega 4 relay, destroying the Collectors ship as well as the base then blowing up a mass relay in the Bahak system, destroying the entire thing in the process. The news itself certainly rocked him to his core. Shepard had destroyed an entire system. The way it sounded it was without a single flinch or care, all in the name of stopping the Reapers. Shepard's resolve was never going to break whenever the Reapers were involved. Despite death, disaster and destruction following her around like a second shadow, she still persevered trying to be the biggest hero in the galaxy. But then she went and destroyed an entire system, Kaidan was having trouble wrapping his head around that. He barely could accept the fact that Shepard was alive again, he had watched the original Normandy explode,
Broken "Welcome to the new Normandy, Major Alenko," he flinched when she spoke to him so briskly, though he couldn't find a reason to blame her. He had this nasty habit of doing and saying the worst possible things at the worst possible times to the last person in the world he ever wanted to hurt. It had literally been hours since they each had to stare down the barrel of each other's guns, and his throat clenched at the thought that all he did afterward was tell her he felt that she would have killed him if he hadn't backed down first.Broken2 years ago in Short Stories More Like This
Hell of a thing to say to the one you love.
She had handled it with grace, had reassured him vehemently that she could never hurt him, and had even readily accepted his request to return to fighting alongside her just a few minutes ago. But now now it was back to business. She was his Captain, giving him the tour of her ship, and he was meekly following behind

'I mean,' he thought absentmindedly as he idly stirred his coffee. 'Isn't it normal for her to hate me?' Though all things considered, there wasn't a thing about their situation that was normal; a Reaper invasion putting your relationship- or what was left of it- on hold wasn't normal. Serving on the same ship during said Reaper invasion while putting your relationship or what was left of it- on hold was even less so. He took a sip of the bitter liquid, its warmth seeping into his chilled bones. It was incredibly late- the last of the crew, save for him, had finally tucked into their bunks for the night, the day's events heavy on their hearts as they attempted to exude a modicum of normalcy, tried to cope by means of routine.
Still, he had expected her to hate him.
How could she not? She had found him as soon as she could, sought for his comfort, his pr
AftermathHis saddening goodbye was the last memory she could recall as the flames of the explosion threw her from her feet, throwing her violently across the platform. Her eyes closed wearily remembering his face, and how much she had lost in order to save the universe and everyone she cared about. The light shone through the shutters of the hospital bay, printing their image on the far side of the wall. Deeper shadows began to over cast, as vehicles pass by in unison. There was a slight tap on the door before it slowly and carefully opened. Major Alenko entered the room, unsure what to find, as was his worry each morning on his arrival. He sat down beside the motionless individual, within the bed.
The scars had healed nicely although her eyes were still covered to protect them from the sensitivity of prolonged exposure to light. He scoffed at the idea; she ha
Finding Strength ShepardxAlenko"You mean a lot to me Kaidan, I love you." Three years. Three absolutely agonizing years Kaidan had waited for Shepard to whisper those three simple words to him. As her hand brushed against his face and he looked into her eyes, she held nothing but affection and admiration for him. There had always been holding back, skirting around the idea, and light playful jokes about it. But when he finally had her sitting in his lap, their gazes locked in each other she finally let him know just how much she cared about him. There was nothing keeping her from him anymore, as he'd long abandoned his philosophy of leaving a way out as well. He no longer wished to be with anyone else, no one else would ever be able to fill him so completely the way Shepard did. He wanted to be hers and hers alone, he wanted to be the man she needed, the man she wanted. It was obvious that Shepard didn't actually need a man to protect her. She could handle herself against just about anything this galaxy could thrFinding Strength ShepardxAlenko2 years ago in Romance More Like This
At Last, a Reply... Kaidan found himself thankful that it was dark by the time he had reached his apartment. Granted, it was only midday, but the atmosphere had clouded over in anticipation for a storm, leaving little light that managed to break through the clouds. The lighting seemed appropriate, given his melancholy mood, he thought to himself as he made his way through his apartment. He hadn't bothered clicking on any of the lights when he came home- the natural light coming from the window didn't quite fill the apartment, but it was enough to see where he was going. His weary eyes scanned the space, lingering on his black couch for a moment, trying not to think of when Olivea had cuddled against him there, shortly after the Battle of the Citadel, before his gaze came to rest on his work desk, a soft sigh finally breaking past his lips.At Last, a Reply...2 years ago in Short Stories More Like This

"I appreciate the help." Shepard said with a bitter tone in her voice, her hand clasping the recently acquired data pad the Asari councilor handed her with minimal interest of what the report actually said. They were talking high detailed secrets, there wasn't going to be anything in a written report, she already deduced that. The issue was the severity in the councilor's voice, the sheer desperation for help.
"It's you who will be helping us. The Matriarchs are growing desperate, for the first time in our history Thessia is vulnerable." She sighed and began to walk away, her hands folding in front of her body. Shepard could only follow as she continued to explain the situation with incredible skill, the vague details leaving key facts carefully eluded. "For all our intellect we're outmatched by Reaper fire power." Shepard wanted to laugh at that, remembering Liara's father and how she mentioned the Asari tactics were about as useful as tits on a hanar in a time like this.

"I " Her throat was a tremble. Her voice died in the empty space, hoarse and tender as it was. She didn't want to talk anymore. She had no words. There was nothing left to say. She just wanted to sleep, sleep and never wake up. She was tired, so very tired. Her eyes remained shut and her back leaned into the bench she found herself on. Her body shook and she could feel nothing. Everything was numb, a soothing gentle numb.
"Get up." The voice demanded of her, louder it was a powerful explosion of words. She slowly lifted her chin from her chest, weary weak eyes fluttered open. "Get up Shepard." She met a strong russet gaze. He looked so familiar Why Why couldn't she remember?
"A-Anderson ?" Her voice betrayed her, croaking whispers that wove themselves into the atmosphere. Anderson, Admiral Anderson? Impossible, he was dead. She sa

"I know, and you'll get them. There's a lot of data to comb through."
"That's why I pulled a few strings to get EDI routed to your data pad. Use it to speed up the process. Cerberus programmed it to save every mission and transmission that the Normandy was a part of."
"Thank you, Councilor Anderson. This is a huge help. I'll get to work."

The Last GoodbyeIt had been almost a full week now. Seven days, one-hundred and sixty-eight hours, ten thousand and eighty minutes. Time was moving on, flowing around the ugly, lumpy stone that only partially blocked the riverbed. The rest of the galaxy was moving on and finally beginning to recover. Only one man, one group of friends, one ship ached and found moving forward almost impossible. Their rock, their leader and foundation, his love...was gone. The Last Goodbye2 years ago in Romance More Like This
It had been joyous, seeing the Reapers finally fall, their empty shells falling forgotten to the earth as the glorious cheers of the Alliance marines around Kaidan resounded to the skies. He only had one thought running through his mind as he threw his assault rifle to the ground where it lay amongst the ashes. He took off without a second glance for the other marines as he sprinted off towards the glowing beacon in the distance.
The pawing fingers of the marines held him back as he screamed out her name, trying to fight to her, the battle over. One o

Staff Lieutenant Kaidan Alenko was grateful to be here. Not all of his commanders had understood his need for extra rations and a dark, quiet room to ride out the migraines, especially just after he had enlisted. His first few postings had also been difficult socially. The military may recruit biotics for their abilities, but not all soldiers were accepting of their biotic fellows. Regardless, Kaidan had given the Alliance his all, eventually winning the respect of the higher-ups and rising through the ranks. The Alliance was an extension of his family now.
Captain David Anderson had contacted Alenko a month ago. The Captain was a highly decorated and well-known N7 gr
