Soul Drinkers and Imperial Guards! So today I received a treat in my facebook inbox from old colleague and now-kickass GW artist, Kevin "Kingmong" Chin: http://www.blacklibrary.com/Blog/Art_and_Soul.htmlSoul Drinkers and Imperial Guards!3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Right now, I'm still awaiting a response from the Black Librarians to see if I am allowed to post some higher-res versions of my 3 Soul Drinkers covers here on DA. Till then, this is all they have up on their blog and all I have to show for, for now! For you Soul Drinkers fans out there, I was told not to reference any notable characters of the SD lore and come up with my own designs.
The general brief for the 3 covers was to have a tactical space marine, a captain, and lastly a dreadnought (being awoken). I thought it would be a neat idea to compose all the covers from a similar worms eye angle, not just for theatrics but rather to literally show the life cycle of a Space Marine as he fights and rises through the ranks, leading his brethren and eventually being entombed within a dreadnought to continue his tireless fig

Before I start talking about this new feature, here are the pro and con for this feature.
1.enables sharing, discover more from different artist and from the same artist
2.Help promote your artworks when displayed, help promote other artist
1.Distracting from the deviation that you are viewing
2.Displays non related deviation or not up to standard deviation
3.Some deviants find it like ads. They want to be able to pick who they want to have featured with their deviation.
4.Takes longer to load
After considering all these pros and cons, honestly, I think this feature has potential. Deviantart is going in a good direction although they might not be implementing it the right way. Deviantart is about community of artists, their works ,

Seriously... just read!
This might sound very random and sudden, but I was thinking a lot about my gallery here on DeviantArt lately, and also about how many people know it for the artwork I do.
I wanted to say how precious and meaningful every single comment and favourite is to me. Even when I seemed very quiet and seclusive for the past two years, you never gave up faith or hope in me and showed me to keep on going and never give up. I kept up uploading artworks here but most of the time, I didn't have the time to update my journals or to keep you updated about my artsy stuff and life. This really is something I want to change here, despite my come-back being slow, I gradually want to get more involved in the community of DA again and also help other artists to be pushed more into the light.
I've been a member of DA for 8 years, yet I became more active a while after making this account, and I gradually grew t

I got in touch with jasmin Keller, who is one of my friend's friends and whom just got back into touch with her not so long ago. She doesn't live so far away from Jasmin's place, and she is doing well! This evening, the picture even reached my friend and she saw it. I haven't heard anything back from her yet and I am not sure, if we will get back in touch with one another again, but time will tell ♥
I don't know what to say...I am in awe, and while feeling so tired and weak due to the rush of emotions, the spark of hope is now a big flame. I want to say..thank you so much for helping me carrying my message...so far that it reached the circles of people with whom she was in touch, and even further, so that my friend saw it!
I just now hope that she wants to get back in touch with me again as well. I'm crossing my fingers...
I am certain it has to settle down for her
The importance of observation.Hello everyone,The importance of observation.4 years ago in Personal More Like This
I would like to press this in a blog entry, because I'm starting to repeat myself in my critiques for the Studies & Practices section.
You can't learn anything new from what's already in your head.
If you don't actually study something, you can hardly call the result a study. I feel as though the skill of observation is being underrated, which is surprising, because I'm not exaggerating when I say that over half of any artist's skill is due to their ability to observe, if not more. Therefor, if you do not train your observation skills and practice purely your drawing ability, you really won't make much progress.
So for any Serious Artist who would like to improve fast: whenever you draw something, find references first. Either in real life (which would really be best) or from the internet, make sure that you have examples ready and that you study what is necessary before (and while) you start drawing or painting. Compare what you are doing to your r

I will link the group further down this journal just so I can show you guys what crazy shit is going on - But be warned - There is heavy adult material there so if you're a minor avert your eyes. You can read on in this journal since I will keep my langauge safe for work.
I'm pretty sure most of you have experienced a case or two where you've come across an amateur picture of some guys' or girls' privates - And not the pretty kind with professional lighting and poses which makes for a nicely crafted artistic photo - No I mean the photos which can be best described as that horrible memory you have from being a kid where you shared the changing room with the older people when you see someones fully developed private part staring at you scarring you for the rest of your life. Yeah those awful pictures - They are all over this site - LEGALLY. And the mentioned group is JU
China trip post (photo heavy)Mm I don't know how to go about this in an organized manner, so this will just be a stream of photos with my intermittent narration.China trip post (photo heavy)3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Our trip was Shanghai > Hangzhou > Nanjing > Suzhou > Wuxi > back to Shanghai. Then we went to Hong Kong on our own.
Oh yeah, first, since I have no photos of these (for good reason): THE SQUAT TOILETS. They suck. They stink. You can always tell if there's a bathroom nearby by the smell in the air! Half the time the flush doesn't even work. All the used toilet paper is tossed in a bin, so the smell just lingers and lingers. For some reason, sometimes they sell food right outside the bathrooms. LIKE WHY?! I don't know how anybody can think about eating with that smell there.
I drank as little as possible. Between my sis and I, we also brought 5-6 rolls of toilet paper, so it was more than enough. (We left the extra rolls at Grandma's in HK afterwards haha.)
Anyhoo, onto pictures...
From our place to China was a 12 hour flight, 4 hour break at airport, then
Exploring Art 34: Finding Style. One of the hardest things about being an artist is growing up, learning, and always being told 'find your unique style'. Nearly everyone I know has flailed about that, struggling to find something that brands them as uniquely them, makes their art identifiable in a mass of other artist's work. Somehow, I stumbled upon my own style, and since then I've had a lot of people ask me HOW I ended up with this style that's all my own. I never really sat down and thought about it until Sarah and I started working together. Then the realities of our styles hit home and I began to realize that what it takes to make your own style, is actually... what NOT to do.Exploring Art 34: Finding Style.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I've made a lot of these mistakes in the past, and I'm sure I'll make the same mistakes in the future. But let me talk about them now and maybe together we can avoid them!
The very, very first and most common mistake in looking for a style is assuming that a lack of knowledge, or a consistant mistake made.... is a mark of style. This is th
About the Accusation. So I woke up this morning, and found my DA page rather bombarded with accusing comments by a user named AetasSerenus.About the Accusation.3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Well, I've blocked him and deleted most of his comments since he basically wrote the same thing everywhere he could find in my page(what an annoying business it was to find all of them like tracking down cockroaches in your room). I've always simply ignored such a user, but this time I thought it was necessary to rebut what he said as I am quite offended.
Well, he argues that I'm a fraud,
that I somehow get the photograph from the Internet and tinker it with Photoshop and post it on DA as if I have painted it myself.
The 'evidence' he offers is even less creative.
1) He argues that the exif data(the data that was automatically stored with the image) states that Photoshop CS5 is used
- well, isn't this obvious? I use Photoshop for all my images. Photoshop is used to adjust the size and correct the colours of the image, after I've taken the photo of my work, so that the i

Perfect commission processI commissioned a lot of artists (more than 50) and some of them didn't follow a commission process and only sent the final image after asking for an upfront payment.Perfect commission process2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I won't commission this kind of artists in the future, because I have no guaranty that the artist will deliver a drawing corresponding to client wishes and I had bad experiences in some cases.
Below, I'll use client for the commissioner and artist for the commissioned artist.
For me, the perfect commission process steps should be :
client sends a note or an email to an artist with all details and references about commission
artist should reply quickly (1 or 2 days after received the message, if he's available), accept or refuse commission, and give a price for the commission
client should reply if the price is fine for him (but he shouldn't bargain)
artist should give an estimated delay before starting to work, if he has a waiting list, put the commission in it
once artist is ready

Bad ArtistsI just felt like talking about this because I'm pretty sure atleast EVERYONE here who draws or does art has once considered their art bad. I shouldn't really be talking about this since I'm just contradicting myself (I also call my art bad) but in the end, you know you don't really mean it, otherwise, why do you continue to strive for it? (god, i sound like an english teacher LOL)Bad Artists4 years ago in Personal More Like This
Ok but in my honest opinion, there's no such thing as "BAD" art or a "BAD" artist. You might see your artwork and think, "Omg... this is so bad klfkjghfd I hate this eww.. why does it have to look so bad." The truth is, your artwork isn't BAD. If your artwork is "BAD" it would be harming a group or individual, or promoting something that can be offensive and hurt people. You could draw an EXTREMELY beautiful painting or whatever, with amazing shading, and beautiful colors, but if it's targeted to hurt someone or something for a bad reason, I would consider that bad art.
If you consider your art bad, and you'r

1) Pokemon are not digital. The Pokemon world is just advanced enough in the "right" technology to be able to translate real-life objects (inanimate or otherwise) into digital form to make it easier to travel.
2) Pokemon trainers get automatic funding for their journey. Currency is digital and based on winnings, so money isn't really an object to anyone.
3) Pokemon don't all say their names. Only ones who are capable of speaking human language can. The rest make noises

1. Sweeney Todd is my favorite play. I first saw it when I was 8. I assisted my dad in building the sets for it.
2. Nothing will kill Disneyland for me. My dad would take me there every single year, and like clockwork we always did the pirates of the carribean ride and the haunted mansion first. Then hit the rest of the park afterwards.
3. I went to college multiple times. The first time was art, but the second time I switched majors and careers three times before I went back to art. Those three times were Religious Studies, Psychology and... Astronomy. While all three subjects are incredibly fascinating when I take them on my own terms, I've found that the overwhelming information you need to learn in order to be competent in the field is.. kind of boring. Particularly Astronomy, my first pr
