Hey, the movie just went to the dollar theater in my area (Canton Ohio) and I was wondering if any of you guys live anywhere near here, if we could set up a movie showing. I would love to go to one of the late ones, and fill the theater with fans so that we could dress up, be as loud as we want, and sing the songs and whatever. Even if there's just a few of you, it would still be a lot of fun! Comment or send me a note if you're interested, and if there's enough of you guys near a different theater (within a reasonable distance) I might even be willing to drive somewhere to see it. Also, here's ten random things I noticed about the movie today:
1) The cat in the hat is on the orange drink bottle in Ted's dining room 2)The Once-ler's bed has no sheets. He is sleeping on a bare mattress 3) "Sundress Girl" as I like to call her (I drew her on pages 1 & 2 of A Long Time Ago) is in almost every scene where there's a crowd. (regardless of what time in the story it is) and sometimes multiple incarnations are visible in different colors 4) There is a minion from "Despicable Me" in Ted's drawer 5) A band called the "Funky Fumes" is advertised throughout the movie, including in Ted's room 6) The once-ler likes cowboys (Lol, I'm just guessing; his bowl has cacti and cowboy hats on it) 7) His mom is the secretary. 8) Right after they pelt him with tomatoes, he says "Oooh, that one hit a tender spot!" 9) I only saw one other redhead in Thneedville, and that's the doctor at the end. Is she Audrey's mom? O.o 10) It is totally insinuated that O'Hare's design team is gay. They are sharing one drink with two cute little curly straws before they get knocked into by the air truck.

In honor of Dr. Seuss' belated birthday, I have an idea of a short fanart series.
It's called "Behind the Seuss"
It's short of the characters' point-of-view of behind the scenes, and telling the audience what they thought of their movies, actors, and etc. As if they were real actors and they know they were in a movie.
Kind of like what Warner Bros. did with Bugs Bunny's birthday special, "Blooper Bunny," and "LT: Back in Action."
The order of it goes from the years they were made: From "How The Grinch Stole Christmas" to "The Lorax."
IGN recently caught up with Wreck-It Ralph director Rich Moore to talk about the film's upcoming Blu-ray release, which features a never before seen animatic depicting one of the story's dropped video game worlds, Extreme EZ Livin' 2. The filmmaker also gave us an update on the sequel and his thoughts on what he'd like to see in a potential followup.
IGN Movies: So I first want to discuss this deleted scene and Extreme EZ Livin' 2. Can you talk a bit about the context of this clip, the Bobby Dunderson character, and how it originally fit into the story?
Rich Moore: Well, Extreme EZ Livin' was this idea that was floated out to Ralph by Bobby Dunderson, who was this kind of ne'er-do-well Hero's Duty character. He told Ralph about this other game that sounded like paradise. It was a place where there were no good guys, no bad guys, just guys -- and girls and sun and surf. It was kind of this Shangri-La where Ralph could forget his troubles. It was a game sort of like The Sims meets Grand Theft Auto, and it was a little amoral with no object to the game. It was just about collecting what we called "Like Its" from other characters in the game, depending on how well you were dressed or what kind of accouterments you were wearing. It was a place where Ralph could drown his sorrows in a hot tub with margaritas. Eventually, in the story, it was the place that Ralph was going to go once he disappointed Vanellope and himself. You know, it was another game world that came very late in the story that people were finding a lot to digest in a movie of about 90 minutes long. In fact, it was making our movie about two hours long, which is pretty long for an animated film. Unfortunately, even though we all loved the idea of this place and what seemed to be a paradise for Ralph as well as a real bottom for him, it was just too much to add in the film. Hopefully, we'll maybe get to revisit that idea, because I think it's one that's worth exploring. It just didn't make the cut for the first Wreck-It Ralph.
IGN: How much development did you end up doing for that particular world?
Moore: We did a lot of writing and storyboarding for it, and it survived several drafts of the script... We also did a lot of paintings and character designs. We really wanted it to have the visual feel of a world kind of like The Sims, where it's got that kind of low res but high realism -- with the characters, you can really feel the polygons and how they're constructed. It didn't have the production value of a place like Hero's Duty. To make a comparison, if Hero's Duty is New York and Sugar Rush is Paris, Extreme EZ Livin' is kind of like Reno. [Laughs] Not to insult anyone in Reno, but it's a little rough around the edges. Biggest little city in the world!
IGN: You mentioned earlier that we may see Extreme EZ Livin' in the future. Obviously there's been a lot of talk about a Wreck-It Ralph sequel over the last couple months. Can you talk about where you are with that at this point?
Moore: There's definitely a lot of interest from a lot of people: myself, the actors -- Sarah [Silverman] and John [C. Reilly] especially -- and all the artists and technicians at Disney. We're just kind of waiting for an official word at this point, but it definitely seems like something could happen. We're really keeping our fingers crossed. We had a great time, all of us working on the film, from top to bottom. I think it would be just awesome to work with that team again and return to that world.
IGN: You've already said that Tron and Mario are at least in consideration for the sequel. Are there any other game characters that you couldn't squeeze into the first film that you'd like to put in a second?
Moore: There was definitely an old school one that I loved as a kid, and that was Dirk the Daring from Dragon's Lair. I loved that game. It was so different from other video games that had 2D animation in it. It was just very unique at that time, and it had things that I loved about both animation and video games within it. It really rekindled my love of 2D animation at just the right time, as a teenager. I really wanted that character in Wreck-It Ralph, but the legal red tape made it pretty impossible to get the rights to him. But it would be great to try and get that character freed up for a sequel, should there be one.
IGN: In Wreck-It Ralph, we saw the 8-bit classics, the '90s racers and modern shooters. Is there one particular game genre that you would want to explore next?
Moore: Definitely, as I said, that kind of social gaming aspect would be a lot of fun, but I also love mobile gaming. I don't exactly know how we could work it in, you know, things like Angry Birds and the With Friends games -- only because I love playing them. It just seems like it would be great to work in a story about those types of games that are so prevalent and contemporary and part of today's culture. I would love to somehow work that into a sequel.
In a GamerHubVideos interview posted onto YouTube on October 25, 2012, director Rich Moore says that he and Disney have ideas about a sequel that would bring the characters up to date and explore online gaming and home gaming.
While speaking to director Rich Moore about Wreck-It Ralph’s DVD/Blu-ray (read our review!), we got on the subject of a potential sequel and some big hints were dropped about where the storyline could go.
Our discovery of the Wreck-It Ralph sequel idea being kicked around was unintentionally discovered at first. We had wanted to ask Moore specifically about Ralph’s world and if other Fix It Felix, Jr. arcade games have Ralphs who’s personalities are the same as the character in the movie.
“That is so funny that you ask that,” Moore said with a laugh, “because I was just talking to John C. Reilly [the voice of Ralph] and we were talking about exactly that. Are there other Ralphs? What would happen if another Fix It Felix, Jr. game was plugged in? Are there other Ralphs that are more contemporary? Is there another version of the game that was made for mobile? Are there those kind of Super Smash Brothers types games where all the characters are gathered in a fighting game? What would that be like for Ralph to come face to face with those different iterations of himself? And it’s created some really cool conversations, so I think that that is so funny you bring up because it’s something we’re playing around with right now.”
We then asked him if that would be what the sequel could explore. “I’m at the point right now where it’s kind of hard to answer that question because we’re thinking about it right now and it’s a very very interesting story,” referring to the potential different versions of Ralph. “It’s a complex issue that would make for a very interesting storyline. I really appreciate you bringing it up, because it means we’re not the only ones thinking about it.”
There’s already been lots of talk about the cast and crew’s hope for a sequel, and at this point it’s all but greenlit by Disney.
The most exciting aspect of a Wreck-It Ralph 2 is that, if it moves forward, it’ll be the first Disney animated theatrical sequel since the 1990 film The Rescuers Down Under (*).
Moore and his team, including lead voice actors John C. Reilly and Sarah Silverman, are all very interested in a follow-up. Given this, plus Wreck-It Ralph’s staggering $428 million box office tally, it looks like it’s only a matter of time until Disney gives it their blessing.

mmkay so I drew the Once-Ler from the book, and the Once-Ler from the new movie o3o Reading/watching the original Lorax... the first Once-Ler just seems more "evil" doesn't he? And the new Once-Ler just like... looks too innocent xD But by the end they're pretty much the same anyway...
Wreck-it Ralph is leaving the movie theaters and entering the world of video store shelves, so we spoke to the film's director Rich Moore about making the movie. We find out why Mario didn't make an appearance, whether or not there will be a Wreck-it Ralph 2, and what video game Moore would create if he ever decided to leave the world of film making.
Where was Mario? He was referenced but we never actually saw him there. Is there a reason he didn’t show up?
We established a really good relationship with Nintendo on this movie. In fact, all the game companies were really, really cool to work with. They were great partners for the scenes that their characters were in, and they really helped us elevate those scenes with their characters by giving us great notes and helping us out – the nuances of their characters. So, Nintendo was one of those companies that we kind of partnered up with for this film and when we pitched the idea of Bad-anon to them, and having Bowser in the scene, they were like, “Yes!” Almost immediately they were like, “If there is a group that is dedicated to helping the bad guy characters in video games then Bowser must be in that group!” and we're like, “absolutely, we feel exactly the same way. It’s good to know we’re on the same page here.” And then through a little bit of conversation, it came up and they said to us, because they knew we were interested in Mario, too, “If you can find an scene that is as appropriate to Mario as the Bad-anon scene is to Bowser, then we can definitely talk about Mario being in the film.” "Ok great!"
So we keep working on the story, and that was always in the back of my mind. We’re always kind of looking for a place to put him from that point on and it became really apparent that kind of scene was not coming up, that kind of centered around something that would make it important that Mario was there. It seemed like every time we would try to put him into a movie or into a scene, it felt like we were just kind of forcing him in there. It didn’t seem like, “Oh that’s totally appropriate that Mario be there.” So rather than going back to them and saying, “Well we tried to kind of shoe-horn him in here. What do you guys think?” because I really respected what they were saying, I totally got it. I had to make the tough decision as the director of holding off and taking kind of a leap of faith and hoping that, ok, if the movie does well, and it’s as good as we think, if it's well-received, and we’re lucky enough to do a sequel, then we definitely should really find a nice juicy role for Mario, and we’ll find it then. That’s kind of how it ended. That’s where we are now, as we wait and see, "will there be another film?" I would love to be able to go back to Nintendo and say, “We found that scene, we found that moment for Mario, what do you think?”
Judging by what you just said, there’s been no word on a sequel or a follow-up movie? You don’t know if that’s going to happen, but it sounds like something you would like to happen.
Within the creative staff, the film, and everyone here at the animation studio, everyone that I talk to – from all the artists to all the animators, the voice cast like John [C. Reilly] and Sarah [Silverman] – everyone would love to kind of revisit that world. I think that it’s kind of unanimous that to say that we just barely scratched the surface. We talked about arcade games. Imagine if we went into home systems and other kinds of platforms or online, or mobile games or something like that. We can’t end with just arcade cabinets from the 1980s. There is huge interest on the creative side. And I think the people across the street from us on the main lot, they love the movie, too. I’m hoping that we’ll be able some day soon that we are doing one.
And it did do well, correct? It did well critically and commercially, as well, right?
Yeah, I think, especially when you consider, this is not necessarily the type of movie people would equate to a Disney film. It wasn’t a classic fairy tale, it didn’t have songs in it. But it had all those kind of underpinnings of like a great Disney film. It had tremendous heart to it, and characters that you really cared about, and a really emotional story that was engaging and it all took place in a fantastic world, or several fantastic worlds. It has all those elements, but in a different kind of package. For the audience to kind of embrace it as such, I can see now that a Disney movie isn’t necessarily just musical numbers and fairy tales. To that end we look at it as a really big success.
Sort of on that topic of it not being a typical Disney film, there were a lot really obscure video game references all over the place. Was there a line that you had to walk between obscure video game references and something every movie goer would understand’?
I don’t think there was anything that was too obscure, because to me, some of the more obscure stuff, like the ‘Aerith lives’ graffiti, was my favorite stuff. Where it was like, we have to put that in. That’s a great idea, that goes in. Because then it’s the people that really, really love [gaming] who will get that. That means a lot. I don’t think there is anything wrong with talking to, as long as you have some broad kind of references – everyone knows Pac-Man – but then who knows Paperboy? There is probably a much smaller percentage, a niche of people who know who Paperboy is who are going to get that, or the Aerith lives graffiti. But still, those who see it, get it, it means a lot to that section of the audience. I never looked at it, okay, that’s just too obscure. If at least two people are getting it, than I think that’s worth it. As long as there are other things, that the general audience who are were casual gamers or are casual gamers are just watched a person play a video game, will be able to get as well.
Have you gotten any feedback from members of the video game industry? Has Shigeru Miyamoto seen the film and offered any kind of feedback?
I’ve not heard from any people in the game industry. We worked with a lot of people beforehand, but I will be honest with you, no I haven’t heard from... I’ve heard from a lot of people in animation, but no one in the game world. That’s very interesting. You’re the first one to kind of bring it up. I’m wondering what’s going on now.
What about gaming fans? Fans of video games have a tendency to be highly analytical when it comes to analyzing video games in different mediums.
In a broad sense, I’ll talk to people and they will bring up a little reference – and it will always kind of go to the place of, "I think that’s really cool that you made this movie from my generation, for those of us that love this kind of gaming." It’s weird that I’ve heard that from people in their twenties, from people in their forties, and fifties, and sixties, so I feel like we did something right that a teenager can be saying that, saying, "thanks for making this movie for me." And then a person in their thirties can be saying that, and a guy in there sixties can be saying that, that it feels like the movie is speaking specifically to their age group. That’s been pretty cool, that it feels like all that hard work of making sure that we didn’t leave anyone out. I like comedy that’s very inclusive, and I like movies that feel inclusive, that aren’t talking down to children or insulting the intelligence of adults. To hear game fans from different generations saying that they feel a special connection to the movie, kind of across the board? That’s pretty great.
Any plans to dip your toe in the video game world outside of movies? Spielberg has kind of played around with making games, and Guillermo del Toro sort of has a game in the works.
Did you see the cabinet version of the Fix-It Felix Jr. game? I thought that was really great. To make something that felt so kind of close to the real thing, as if it had been made back in the 80s. I thought that was really, really great.
I’ve talked to so many people in the studio and outside of the studio that say like, “Are you guys going to make a a Sugar Rush game?” That’s the one that everybody always goes to. And we’re like, why aren’t we making a Sugar Rush game? Like a full, no-holds-barred, amazing version of Sugar Rush. And I think that would be really cool. If there were one that would love to kind of dive into, it would definitely be doing a balls-out – can we say balls out? – race game based around Sugar Rush that goes far farther than any of the race games so far. That would be mine dream game project if I could do one. I would never leave my house.
Dude, I must say I love the way of thinking this guy has =3 The explanation of why Mario wasn't there sounds quite fair to me... considering he was slightly referenced; I guess they took the "a good role for him" a bit too serious, but anyway XD Also, the chance of a Sugar Rush actual game sounds pretty neat!
