At A Crossroads
"There is no meaning in a world without you, Nezumi No meaning at all."
Shion's fingers dig into his arm and he is crying. He is crying but denying his tears. Nezumi thinks that now, more than ever, Shion looks like a child. Holding onto the very thing he wants, defying all logic and reasons why it can't be his and still wanting it.
For a crazy second Nezumi wants to give in. Just give Shion what he wants so much; so openly; so desperately. But it is madness and reason quickly cuts through the impossible idea like razor cuts through flesh it hurts, Nezumi notices but dismisses it almost immediately. He tucks away the feeling into the very depths of his black, black heart. They are like day and night, light and darkness, truth and lies and Nezumi can't stay by his side and he knows it but a part of him still wants to and that is exactly why he must leave.
And yet, he is forcing Shion's chin up, making him meet his gaze and kisses him. Tenderly, fiercel

Chirp, chirp, chirp.
Cravat chirps excitedly with the tip of his nose smelling the air through the hem of Nezumi's jean pocket. He can smell the familiar surroundings and he sounds almost sad that he can't be down on the ground scurrying around with joy like Hamlet does.
"Yeah, yeah I know. I don't need you guys chirping every two seconds to know we are there."
Nezumi walks up the last hill and stands facing No.6 with his foot over a jutting piece of rock, one he had overlooked the city on top of many times before, his backpack hanging loosely at his back and his hands in his jacket pockets. The wind blows his hair to his face. It isn't really cold nor is it warm. The sun has risen a few hours ago over the mountains behind the city and No.6 without the wall glows under the golden rays like a snow globe only one made with sunshine.

Shion's new apartment is nothing like how Nezumi pictured it. He has thought it would be something akin to his old house in Chronos with the numerous fountains and spacious interior overlooking the large back yard it sat on. But it turns out to be an ordinary looking apartment, only five stories tall with plain, light cream colors that are used in two tones to emphasize the building's elegant lines which refer to no particular architectural style. According to Karan's instructions, Shion's flat is on the second floor to the right. Although this place is quite close to Chronos, it isn't in Chronos and Nezumi wonders why Shion has chosen this place where he could quite possibly have anywhere he wanted with his high position in the Reconstruction Committee. Hell, he could even live in the Moondrop if he wa

A bright flash of light dyed the windows silver. As the following thunder split the sky in two, Shion's hand, entangled in Nezumi's hair came to a halt. He raised his head from the Rehabilitation and Adaptation Ministry Proposal to look out the window from where he sat on the floor with his back resting against the couch.
He could only see a small portion of the sky from this angle but he could tell it was a raging thunder storm from the way the sound of the wind could be heard from inside the house where they were protected with tall, double glazed, fiberglass windows. Shion could see the topmost branches of the Weeping Willow tree outside their apartment. It looked like it was being hurled by some malicious monster that could not be seen by the eye.
It isn't as bad as that night though.
Although Shion was watching the thunderstorm outside at its full might he didn't feel that strange sense of awe towards it the way he had felt when he was 12. He didn't want to be insi

This was written with undivided inspiration from one of the best No.6 AMVs out there, with the song "Shattered" by Trading Yesterday. For better experience I added the song INSIDE the fanfic... When you see this: [[SONG]] right-click on it and have the song open in a new tab and let it play for the rest of the fic. It may not be completely in sync with the fanfic since everyone has different reading pace... but I still wanted to add audio for you guys.

“Could you please for the love of all dead musicians, turn it down!”
Nezumi yells from the library in their apartment hoping his voice will reach Shion’s ears over the excruciating noise of off-tune instruments and inarticulate shouts of singers Shion has identified as ‘Pre-apocalyptic music’.
No wonder why there was an apocalypse. I would want to destroy the whole world too, if I were to listen to this s

Nezumi listens as Shion's breathing slows down. He thinks he can still feel his erratic heartbeat through the mattress but it could be his too. There really isn't any way to tell them apart now.
Shion's back feels slick with sweat as Nezumi absently traces lines on his skin with a regular rhythm. As he often does while trying to catch his breath, he thinks about stuff he normally doesn't. It may be his soft side making him think like this and he can't say he particularly enjoys it, especially when it takes advantage of him like this in his euphoric state of mind and when he is especially comfortable with every sensation within his still tingling body but he thinks mere thoughts wouldn't really hurt would they?
It's the urge that would hurt, he reflects, the urge that he feels now; relentless, demanding, frustrating... the urge to ask. And he doesn't know why he does it, as with many things concerning Shion, but he yields to it.
Shion's eyes are closed but Nezumi knows he i

Sion glowed even in darkness.
It wasn't about the snowy white hair or the blazing crimson eyes that were now hidden under his eyelids as he slept. During daytime, every time he stepped out of the shadows, sunlight seemed to embrace him with an affectionate fondness. As if it loved him. Even at night, when there was no sun or even without the luster of the moon bathing the wasteland with its rays, Sion always seemed to glow against the pitch-black background. Nezumi could observe this, but he could not explain it. It was just one of the things that was to remain inexplicable and a mystery as long as he lived.
Still, Nezumi couldn't help but wonder as he watched him sleep next to him and as he felt the heat radiating from his limp body from under the blanket. How could he look so peaceful? How could he still glow even as he slept? Nezumi was used to watching him sleep like this, but it baffled him each time. Especially at times like this when he felt like he could give away

"Oh, look! One more!! Nezumi! Did you see that one?!"
"Yes, yes I did. Are you gonna do this every single time?"
"Oh come on, Nezumi! How often can we watch a meteor shower like this? Just look! It's so beautiful."
Nezumi can see the stars but he prefers the reflection in Shion's eyes, rather than staring up at the night sky. They are on the balcony of their bedroom, Nezumi sitting on the stone floor with legs stretched ahead and his thighs serving as pillow for Shion's head on his lap. Nezumi stares into his eyes and watches another stray meteorite shoot across the sky drawing a fiery trail behind. A lock of Shion's long hair falls from its bind at the back of his head and Nezumi catches it before the white moonlit tips touch the floor. His fingers dance around the soft lock and tangle themselves around it with a habitual ease.
Shion gazes up into his eyes and smiles at him before his eyes of deep wine widen at the sight of another burning arch made by an impressivel

This scene happens in the novels when Sion is carrying a dying Nezumi out of the correctional facility. He remembers his conversation with him two days before the manhunt as they sit in his room and plan their escape route via the trash chute...
The dull light from the lamp shined within the room. As he looked at Nezumi's profile with his eyes closed and heard the deeply whistling wind, Sion felt somewhat like he was watching a scene in a play.
He was sitting in the audience, engrossed in the dimly lit and quiet play. Feelings of satisfaction, comfort, melancholy, and something close to fear yet couldn't be given a name were mixed and intertwined together, filling his heart.
If only this moment could last an

The look on his face is priceless…
His lips are parted and his crimson eyes are wide open. His hand in Nezumi’s palm barely has any gripping force and he looks, absolutely dazzled.
This is the first time Shion has ever seen the sea.
After a two hours walk through a meadow of green wheat and some light hiking, they have finally reached their destination. Nezumi stands next to Shion with a backpack on his back, a hand in his beige short’s pocket, the other holding onto Shion’s so he wouldn’t fall flat on his face with his all consuming daze. There is a mild, salty breeze licking the knee high grass on the hill they are standing. Nezumi’s raven bangs dance in the wind and he raises his free hand to keep them from his eyes as he watches Shion gape at the sunlight drenched ocean before them expanding as far as the eyes could see.
Nezumi has accidentally forgotten to mention that he was taking Shion to the sea. And that’s the reason Shion c

The little black mouse, almost invisible amongst the shadows of the night hurried across the deserted street. It didn't stop once nor that it slowed down. With a programmed certainty and accuracy it continued to run along the side streets towards a single destination. It didn't stop... for it's master was right behind him.
Nezumi followed the little mouse closely. Although the task was hardly difficult, he almost lost sight of it twice when he paused to stare at the changes within the city he had once hated with passion.

Nezumi lay in his bed, his small white-haired friend laying beside him, fast asleep. He wasn't entirely sure how the two of them had come to sharing a bed. His guess was that Shion must have accidentally fallen asleep on his bed, and Nezumi himself didn't want to take the couch. After that night, Shion must have thought it was okay to take the bed any night. Thus, they had somehow reached the point where they were sharing a bed every night.
The grey-haired boy sighed quietly. He wasn't used to having half of his sleeping space taken.
However, despite this, Nezumi was just about to drift into sleep, until Shion randomly sat up. This made Nezumi flinch, since Shion was in a deep sleep just seconds before, and didn't even shift around before sitting up. After Shion sat there for awhile, Nezumi eventually decided to question his friend.
"Oi..." Nezumi said as he sat up and brought a hand to Shion's shoulder.
Shion didn't respond, and Nezumi sat up further to look at his face. His red eyes

He guessed it had to be around evening time - it was a little hard to tell down here, in a room with no windows. Regardless, he was sure Nezumi should be finishing his little errand soon.
Finished with the books, he leaned back against the shelf, glancing around the room for something else to occupy himself with meanwhile. His eyes got caught on the little closet - containing Nezumi's enormous wardrobe consisting of two shirts, two pants, one jacket and that huge scarf.
Hmmm...maybe he could see if that needed any tidying up.
Just his luck. The rain had just started as he'd exited the theatre. Honestly, they really did pick their moments.
Sighing, Nezumi tugged his scarf over his head, making it into a hood, tucking the package he'd received into his jacket as he scurri

"A kiss to seal a vow."
It seemed like forever since he had spoken those words; an eternity since he had glimpsed the innocent face of the snowy-haired, scarlet-eyed boy. An infinite amount of time had passed since that fateful day when the two had destroyed the correctional facility and brought down the Holy City.
Nezumi often caught himself wondering, thinking, about the strange boy whom he had so long ago separated himself from. The harder he tried to forget, the more his mind was barraged by the swirling images of that smiling face. When he closed his eyes, the face of the boy with the snakelike scar was permanently burned into the backs of his eyelids.
It had been two days since the rat and the flower had parted ways.
Two. Fucking. Days.
Nezumi scoffed at himself. Even though they had been apart for only two meager days, it seemed like an agonizingly long time. Without the boy's lively presence brightening the dank little underground room, it had retu

I have saved his life with these hands before. I can do it again. I can do it again.
Nezumi has lost a lot of blood. Shion has to clean the wound, stop the bleeding as much as he can and get him to a hospital. He has no data to rely on but compared to his own measurements Nezumi should be around 180cm tall and around 60 kgs heavy. He should have approximately 4,7 liters of blood in full health. That may vary due to malnutrition but definitely can't be less than 4,5 liters total. Losing fourty percent of his entire blood volume can kill him and Shion estimates he has lost at least thirty percent by now given the fact he was already losing
No. 6 FF - As Time Goes On - 1The flood of people streaming towards the boundary of the city was mesmerizing. People clad in suits, dressed for the part of a proper city, collided with men draped in tattered hand-me-downs and shawls. They paused at the brink of the shattered remains of the wall that had separated them for so long. A brief moment of hesitation persisted, leaving the two once separated societies to look upon one another with shy interest. But just as the wall had, the tension broke away and dissipated.No. 6 FF - As Time Goes On - 14 years ago in Introductions & Chapters More Like This
It was an awkward first meeting, as the residents of the Western District tenderly placed their hands on the remaining brittle pieces of the No. 6 city walls. The city had sapped at them for so long, terrorized their very existence with those terrible assaults. Many thought somewhere in their minds that they ought to revolt, to insist upon the shining city the same terror that it had cared to bestow upon them. And yet the people that met them by the wall showed no hostility, and the shambles of b

"Once there was a gentleman who married for his second wife the proudest and most haughty woman that was ever seen. She had by a former husband two daughters of her own humor, who were, indeed, exactly like her in all things. He had likewise, by another wife, a young daughter, but of unparalleled goodness and sweetness of temper, which she took from her mother, who was the best creature in the world.
No sooner were the ceremonies of the wedding over but the mother-in-law began to show herself in her true colors. She could not bear the good qualities of this pretty girl, and the less because they made her own daughters appear the more odious. She employed her in meanest work of the house: she scoured the dishes, tables, etc., and scrubbed madam's chamber and those of misses, her daughters; she lay up in a sorry garret, upon a wretched straw bed, while her sisters lay in fine rooms, with floors all inlaid, upon beds of the very newest fashion, and where th
