Well, you know. Back for a given value of skin, muscle, vertebral column and other things that normally make up a back. I've changed since the last time I was here, and here has changed more than a little, too. It's going to take time for us to get used to each other again. I'd like you to think of this journal as the equivalent of that first surreptitious footsie under the tablecloth between two lovers who haven't seen each other for many years. The plates have been cleared--the figs, the oysters and all the other essential bit players in the stage play of seduction--and we sit facing each other, my toes just resting on yours. Your face is flushed with champagne. My face is flushed with another sensation entirely.
What do we discuss, then, as we sit each contemplating the potential merits of inviting the other back for coffee despite neither of us liking coffee and neither of us having any? We've spent the dinner talking old times:

Here is some Extra DATA I've found about how many users their are on DA Answer: DeviantArt social networking site has 1,000,000-10,000,000 users.
Female: 48%. Male: 52%. 13-17 Years: 23%. 18-34 Years: 44%. 35+ Years: 34% Asian: 8%. Black: 9%. Hispanic: 10%. White: 69%. No College: 88%. College: 12%. So their annual take in from the 1,000,000 range is about 1,450,000 dollars and that is on the low end of the guess... if we go with the high end then it is 14,500,000 dollars,
Snow White and the HuntsmanI'm back and fully recovered from my sickness. Okay, I meant to do this review a lot sooner than this, but it's on my mind currently. So for my birthday, I went to see Snow White and the Huntsman against my better judgment instead of Prometheus. You know, looking back on the trailers, I saw all the warning signs about this movie.Snow White and the Huntsman11 months ago in Personal More Like This
!Warning Sign 1! It relies heavily on on visuals to keep its audience entertained
!Warning Sign 2! It is marketing to the general demographic of brainless, cheap entertainment

I had no intention of ever seeing this movie. But my best friend kept talking about how this was going to be like one of the best movies of the year every time we saw a trailer and a poster. I tried to warn him about all of that but he refused to argue about it. So you know what I decided to do to get back at him? I decided I was going to pick a time for when there would be as few people as possible and ruin th

Unfinished business: watching you and suit porn!Hey guys-Unfinished business: watching you and suit porn!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
So I frequently come to you for help and I SO INFREQUENTLY repay it haha. BUT! Today I have two exciting tidbits, both in response to prior "HELP ME HELP ME HELP ME" journals.
First: the Watching You script! The last one is debunked, but here is a wonderful snazzy new one.Basically this is a script that tells you when another deviant is watching you. Very very helpful.
Second: the suit book! Thank you :iconjonbronx: !!! It is called "Garment Construction: Jacket and Pants" and it's by John Watkiss. The book is sadly out of print, but if you, like me, were in it to find the artist, I strongly suggest you take a minute to familiarize yourself with his work. It's fantastic.
Thanks as always for all your help everyone; hope these resources can be helpful to some of you!

Luncheon Meat and English Usage.A curious plague has broken out at the Lastwear Journal offices: comments and messages by non-existent people. They are odd individuals, these folk without physical being. They often seem to have opinions about the items posted on the Journal, and then loose the thread; they ramble on about other topics and often blather meaninglessly. Almost as if they were the ghosts of ideas once partially formed, but are now drifting free in the Aether that is the interwebs.Luncheon Meat and English Usage.1 year ago in Personal More Like This
The writers are, of course, S.p.@m-bots. We dare not speak their names, for it calls them onto our site. Even using the S-word calls to them. Rather we shall call this kind of post as "luncheon-meat", which is what the original product was, after all.
As an Historian Archivist of the LastWorld, we are familiar with the notion of ideas having a life of their own. If enough people believe something, no matter how little foundation in reality it has, the idea can grow and take form; have impact on the real world. In a curious way,
Photoshop CS5 color pickerJust found a neat little trick in Photoshop CS 5 by accident and wanted to share.Photoshop CS5 color picker1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Anybody who has always wanted to have a shortcut for the color picker: Alt+Shift+right-click brings it up! Not sure if this works in CS4, too. It's different than the standard picker also, the color selection is swift and intuitive. Hover over color, release buttons!
So whoever didn't know, this comes in handy I think.
Well, if not, that's also ok. The world still goes round.
PS: Also, brushtool selected, clicking alt+right-click and dragging resizes brush.
I wonder how many comments I'll read about how I was the last person to know these things lol.

Anyway, to business. I am a professional assassin (I enclose my certificate of assassination as proof) and SMERSH have contracted me to assassinate you and have specifically paid extra for a particularly nasty death which makes it look like you died in a particularly bizarre sex game gone wrong; I had already bought the shire horse stallion (he's called Henry - picture atta

Beautiful of South Borneo IndonesiaIm living in South Borneo. Borneo Island. One of the beautiful provinces in Indonesia. A very original and unique cultural heritage, called The Floating market.Beautiful of South Borneo Indonesia1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Floating market is a market where merchandise is sold from boats. Originating in times and places where water transport played an important role in daily life, most floating markets operating today mainly serve as tourist attractions, and are chiefly found in Indonesia.
The colorfully clad merchants at these lively markets paddle along in sturdy canoes laden with fresh fruit and vegetables to sell to shoppers. There is lots of chatter and activity bargaining is common, that's all part of the fun.
However, the floating market here has particularly into its own uniqueness in comparison with other places, because here there are two sites with the characteristics of each.
In South Borneo, "Muara kuin" and "lokbaintan" Floating market are already famous around the world.

Your Show Bible
The type of show is defined by you. It can be a comic book, a TV series, feature film or game. Create a polished full color professional style bible for your proposed project.
The Structure: Build it using these elements.
The World: When and where is it? Show significant environments, vehicles and assets.
The Characters: Tell us who they are, their backgrounds, goals and motivations. Show us their emotional tone in their clothing, pose and posture. Also tell us how they relate to the other characters.
The Story/Stories: Tell us the general plot. If it's a TV series idea give us the general direction the show will move in the first season.
You can work on this solo or with another person. If there is an area of heightened interest for you, say environments, focus your work there and work with a character driven artist for the people of your concept.
Due Next Week: Research and Thumbnails. Go further if you'd like but you will pitch your ideas from here

I was a finalist last year for Final Track and the experience taught me how to craft a compelling short story, work under deadlines and plan ahead. You can read about my process for creating Final Track here. I recommend aspiring comic/manga artists to submit their work and just learn from the very act of doing.
As a bonus, I'm copying one of my blog posts from my website below regarding tips for manga contests.
The first five tips involve thinking, research and planning: all of which are helpful in giving yourself good strong material with which to marry your artwork. The last five involve the actual production of the comic and make the work as dynamic as it can be.
1. Take the time to work on the story.

The Great War of Shadows is over. The evil forces that rose to conquer the world have been vanquished.
A single hero now begins the difficult journey back home. All of the hero's companions were killed in the final epic Battle of Githeroth. Only the noble stead he/she rides returns to the home village with the hero.
The hero is bringing back the Necklace of The Void. This item was a central source of strife in the great battle. Its magical powers are great and the hero is taking it home to a care taker, the benevolent sorceress, Ishtagoth.
Create presentation sheets of the hero. Gender is optional. Show the wear and tear of the previous 5 years of turmoil and strife.
The stead: Loth, the stead, can be conceived as a horse or another more fantastical creature build for service and traveling great distances.

Assignment: Character meet-and-greetWow, I haven't updated the journal in forever. A lot is going on and I'll be posting about that soon, but in the meantime here's one of my assignments from Children's Book Illustration class. I thought it might be good for those of you interested in character design to take a look at. Mind you, this isn't anything like concepting for animation/game design, and most of the suggestions are aimed at the younger age group, but the main points are worth thinking about.Assignment: Character meet-and-greet2 years ago in Personal More Like This
It's amazing what you can get to know about a character just by looking at their bedroom.
Character Meet-and-Greet!
Let us get to know your character! Either a character of your own creation, or a character made from a generator (Ex: Seventh Sanctum). Create 2-5 illustrations that convey your character's personality in a unique manner. Think of the opening pages of some of your favorite picture books.
Illustrations can be loose sketches or full color, or a combination of both. If you'd like, try adding a sen

Lead character is a young female mouse named Mei-Rong. She lives in Henian Provence in China during the Tong Dynasty (BOOOO. D8). She is studying at the Shaolin Institute but is very unhappy. The master and most of the students are bullies. It is a male dominated school that hands out rough treatment to the few girls that attend.
She hears of another school of Kung Fu far away on Hua Mountain. She leaves on a journey to this place. Early on she meets a dog named Auang. The dog becomes a friend and joins her on the journey.
Along the way they encounter a very mean cat named. Mimi. A battle. Fur flies but Mei-Rong and Auang win out and then continue on their way.
At last they arrive at the foot of Hua Mountain. Auang wishes Mei-Rong well there at the base and departs. Mei-Rong climbs the mountain but it's winter and a sudden snow storm hits before she makes it to the top of the mo

A young couple is traveling across Europe on vacation. They arrive at Transylvania Station and the shuttle picks them up and takes them to the Youth Hostel. They have weekend reservations.
At check-in that evening they meet the manger of the hostel, Mr Dracula. Their roommate, Sven, is out and about. Sven is actually the Wolfman. The moon is full so Sven has changed into a lycanthrope and gone out for a bite.
Late at night they hear heavy foot steps in the halls and other rooms. When they peek out or investigate the sound either stops or they catch a glimpse of a very tall, large person as they step into a room and close the door behind them. This is the Frankenstein Monster.

Lulu, Kablam, etc...advice?So I bought a book off Lulu some time ago and I have to say, the quality was really really disappointing. Not so much the binding or materials, cause I can't really tell the difference there, but the color and general print quality was pretty poor. That was, like I say, a few years ago, and possibly they have stepped up their game since then.Lulu, Kablam, etc...advice?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
What is your guys' opinion on the highest quality online self-publisher? I know since there's no option of supervising the printing, it's not going to be perfect no matter what, but I figure I might as well get y'all's opinions in case I'm overlooking a really good printer? Let me know, even if it's just to say "you're whack, Lulu's the best!"

Thanks! Another comic question! Thanks for replying to that journal and I'm trying to get back to everyone! The last journal also gave me a chance to look at people's galleries (who commented), which was a huge treat honestly. Comments usually leave me looking at galleries anyway, heh. Now for the question, what are your favorite comics? ( If it's a webcomic, you can link it too. ) What do you like about them? Just drop a comment!

As a side note, if you are interested, I usually hang out at :iconpanels-and-gutters:. There are some really great comic artists there and they are pretty friendly (and goofy).
A Case For DeadlinesA goal is a dream with a deadline.A Case For Deadlines8 months ago in Personal More Like This
A little over a year ago I made a few observations about what I have learned about being a successful graphic novelists. Now I know these aren't hard and fast rules, nor are they guaranteed to bring everyone success (I mean we all have different value judgements for what that means). But I am a big believer in practical wisdom. That certain things breed success more than others and I would much rather pursue tried and true models that lead to the results we want than not. And one of those things that have been impressed on me the most has been deadlines.
Whether real or imagined, deadlines move us along, give us a horizon we can aim for and keep us on track. When I made my first book, From Death Til Now, I really had no deadline, so the project floated out there in ambiguity for t

BECAUSE SO MANY THINGS ARE MAKING SENSE TO ME RIGHT NOW.
The first part of this podcast discusses how light fractures into bits, yes we know. And then how eyes see color, yes we know. How different eyes of species can perceive color differently, aware of this yes. It's the last part of this podcast that is SOOOO interesting to me, where it talks about colors, paint pigments, and finally history of pigments.
I've been aware that certain pigments are really rare, like anything blue. Or poisonous, I own some of that too. 8D Only in the past century or two I think have synthetic blues existed for painting. Even now I have to work REALLY HARD at getting certain blues, usually by mixing certain other blues, which are disastrously expensive
