2032. Tensions are mounting on Earth between superpowers and war seems imminent. At the same time a massive ship is being prepared to launch to deliver the bulk of the colonists to mankind's first self-sustaining extrasolar colony. Once it becomes apparent that war cannot be avoided, the mission is modified given the possibility that the colonists may end up being the last surviving members of humanity. The ship is launched and not long after all contact with Earth is lost with all evidence pointing to global nuclear holocaust. This leads to conflict among the crew over whether to return to Earth or proceed on course. The decision is made to continue on, but not before the course data is removed from the computer. The computer is programmed to locate a habitable world while the crew enters hibernation. When they awaken they learn that the ship has found a small

No Prohibitionthe POD for this world is simple, Woodrow Wilson is still racist, authoritarian and a warmonger but he never picks up a prohibitionistic streak. As a result, there is no volstead act or presidential backing for the 18th amendment due to no presidential backin. As a result, the amendment's progress stalls out 2 states away from implementation at it's closest point to success in 1922. After that high-water mark, the national prohibition movement, and in time the state versions of it begin to retreat. No Prohibition1 year ago in Settings More Like This
Removing prohibition does have effects, but it's not a world-shattering change. The depression, second world war, cold war, etc all still happen. One of the more notable changes is that organized crime is rather weaker than OTL in the United States, with corrosponding effects on petty crime. Without America's organized criminals to serve as exampldes or provide de facto training, organized crime and by extension other shady efforts are less powerful than OTL. A second visible change is a som
Airship worldWe've seen zeppelin survival explored as a side effect of virtually every POD set before last wednesday, but the a scenario where everything is focused on the survival of the zeppelin as the scenario's main core is all too rarely explored. The POD of course involves a combination of various disasters being avoided plus president Roosevelt deciding to embark on an ambitious project to follow up the TVA: the construction of an air merchant marine using airships that would of course use american-produced helium.Airship world1 year ago in Settings More Like This
The second world war, cold war and even much of modern history largely followed OTL's overall path, but there of course some differences. One obvious difference is that adding zeppelins into the equation doesn't mean the replacement or even sidelining of heavier than air travel. Zeppelins remain on the side but by the facts that 1) they require much less infrastructure to accomodate 2) airships can carry big loads of cargo and or passengers much cheaper than aircraft can.

A sequel piece to my original DNOS-based scenario. This carries forward the action up until 2080. It goes from being simply the war on terror to the War on Terror IN SPACE. This is of course a bit of new material done since the original source didn't have quite as much detail to adapt for this particular time period as I would have liked so it's taken a bit longer for me to do than the first.
For the next 79 years, many of the trends of the 21st century continued. National security states developed, globalization's many enemies attempted futile resistance against the emerging global order, economic and strategic focuses on space developed, most of the third world imploded and technology stagnated for the most part. There are of course other visible trends which will also be explored.
THE BIG TRENDS

Here's a relatively short description based off of the future history of an obscure RPG done by Scott Palter, one of the owners of the defunct RPG company West End Games. The main settin for DNOS is in the late 24th century. The POD for this is naturally, China's leadership in the 1990s deciding to put more effort into space with a corrosponding US response. A followon butterfly from this, is the election of a more charismatic, competent and warlike president in 2000 than Bush.
Initially, outside of the announcement of a plan to land on the moon again by 2003, more money in NAFTA the McCain administration went roughly as OTL's bush administration. The first noticable change came with 9/11's seeing the fourth plane hitting the washington monument and taking it down. Following the first attack, President McCain ordered the invasion of Afghanistan, which was followed up in early 2003 wit

The world of Staaken operates on the theological principle that believers 'create' deities be their worship. Thus there are multiple deities in existence with deities coming and going out of existence on a regular basis- think of it as divine capitalism, with 500 small startup businesses for every national chain like McDonalds. To that end an exhaustive list of current deities active on Staaken would be will nigh impossible, so we concentrate on the primary deities for the 12 Kingdom Region. Different modules in different regions will introduce new Deities that are part of the cultural landscape of a given area.
As part of my goal to develop fully fleshed out characters, I allow players to select their domain to use with their deity but they have to write a 'mission statement' (one or tw

Lauri and Mona sat in the waiting room of the local Fertility Institute ready to make the biggest decision of their lives, and all either could do was hold onto the other's hands in the cold and crowded waiting room, watching countless other perspective parents come and go. Some looked elated, others simply looked just as anxious as they did.
"Lauri and Mona Flores," an older nurse called out, "Dr. Chella will see you now."
Mona was the first to rise, still clutching her wife's hand as if to pull her up with her. The two had talked about this for more than three years; first with idle, "have you ever thought about"s, then moving into more serious, "do you think we're ready"s, and finally the dry, but easily most crucial, "can we afford it?"s.

Am I selfish?
Or is this right?
Should I wish?
On this starry night?
Could it be?
That I`ve been seen?
Do they know the liar is me?
Am I caught in between?
How should I say this?
How can I say it right?
I believe this
Could end up all right.
The words I`ve tried to say
Were impossible to utter
When you took my breath away
All I can do is stutter.
I wish for candlelight
And romance on a sweet summer night.
I wish for peace and quiet
A retreat from standards of the city: I don't buy it.
I want space
And a way to relax
I want them to get out of my face:
Is this too much to ask?
feel the tension rising
Like the bubbles in boiling water
How I'm not much of a relative, let alone a daughter.
I'm not yet calm
Why is it stressing me?
Is there a balm
To soothe the matter pressing me?
Ahh, the music soothes me
I feel the rhythm lift me
The voice awakens me
And the beat drives me further.
I know I have a place here
I don't know where it is so

It hurt's at first but then again what doesn't in this messed up world
Love it's like someone's pulling your heart out with a dagger
Stabbing it over and over again
It will bled yes the heart will bled
It will hurt for now
But it can get better tomorrow, but if it get's worst then you can say "i want to dream forever"
The heart will then run out of blood and stop then
You can sleep in death dreaming of your paradise
Please dream on with a smile that way you'll be happy...

When you look into a mirror, you should see your reflection, right? I - for one - don’t.
As much as I’d like to say I’m disturbed by the fact, I must admit it’s given me a reason to write in this thing for the first time in months, but then again it’s not exactly something I can go around telling people, so this is the only reason I’m writing in you at the moment - that sounded ridiculous.
I’m not exactly sure when it started, which as pathetically stupid as it sounds, is indeed true. I’m not sure when it started, when I noticed it or why it is happening and as I can confront nobody else about it, I suppose I have no other option but you and the depths of my mind.
I assure you there’s nothing different about our mirror than any other mirror, come to think of it, I could probably look into any mirror and see this strange reflection, I’ll have to test that theory out one day, maybe during that shopping trip…Wh

The Third-Rank Hierarch of the Inner Church grinned. He had discovered a clear error of dogma in the annoying Second-Rank Hierarch James of Oxfrd's writings – he was implying that the current Nine Castes were an elaboration of a smaller number which had existed at some time in the past. That was clearly a doubleplus ungood violation of the Principle of Conservatism, under which only the High Council of the two Innermost Castes could recreate Falsepast to bring it in line with Truefuture. A clear case of Thoughtcrime. He wet his quill in the ink and began writing. If he followed Properproc and made sure to put this information in the correct hands, he would rise and James of Oxfrd would sink: at the very least banished from the Inner Castes and be Made Straight, possibly even be declared an Unperson and suffer the Seven Tortures.
All was Plusgood. The Hierarch paused and gazed out the window of the Ministry of Truth. It was a lovely spring day in the year 2484, and the sun wa

Conspiracy in AmericaConspiracy in America2 years ago in Philosophical More Like This
So I was talking with an NCO during guard about some conspiracies. Not conspiracy THEORIES, but things going on that have actual factual information behind them.
Here's some key points discussed.
1) Prisons are not owned by government. They are owned by Congressmen. This means anytime someone is put in prison, the government PAYS those Congressmen for each and every person kept there.
2) With point 1 in place, we can conclude this is why so many laws enabling arrests for various things are made - the Congressmen get more money from these new laws enabling the police force to arrest people. Some targets for this include firearm illegalisation as well as cannibis.
3) Marijuana is illegalised because it is unable to be controlled and properly taxed. Unlike tobacco which takes years to grow the cannibis plant can grow just about anywhere and therefore it's too difficult for them to tax and control. It would also severely damage tobacco stocks, which Congressmen invest a lot of their money

Rules of surviving the zombie apocalypse
Rule 1: Don't go in there!
You will assume at all times there is a threat within a five-metre proximity and you will act accordingly.
Rule 2: basic protection.
You will locate a weapon and keep it with you at all times, logically your choice will depend on a sensible consideration of efficiency weighed with availability, deflating to some sort of blunt instrument. However in a zombie plague, a good old shotgun can't hurt (ok, not true).
Rule 3: Survival in numbers.
You will join a group of survivors and you will ban together in order to survive. This party will consist of a least one of each of the following:
- Scout (air vent sized),
- Tough guy (with a suspiciously large number of weapons)
- Intelligent or rational person (ignored constantly)
- Quirky (comedic relief)
- Untrustworthy (yes this is compulsory)
Rule 4: Relocation.
Your party decides to travel after discovering that your current destination 'sucks'. You will not decide on where to

A robotic arm activated and came up to the level of the active pod, it grabbed the pod with its prongs, pulled it out and twisted causing the small green body to that was inside to fall out and plummet to the ground. After a few seconds of being on the ground another two arms descended from where they were resting, one held a small PAK which would grow with the child and the other was a special biological welder which would permanently connect the PAK to the child. The robotic hand holding the PAK held said item to the child's back while the other arm sparked and attached the PAK onto the child's back. The arms having done their occupation returned back to where they came from, yet another robotic arm lowered down and delivered an electric shock to the still unconscious body.
