Being a Commission Artist part 1I often get messages from other artists who are looking into doing commission work themselves although they're not sure where to start. I don't claim to be an expert in being a commission artist, although I have been accepting commissions since 2000, so I do have a bit of experience under my belt. So I thought that I'd actually write down some stuff that may or may not help other people who want in on the gigBeing a Commission Artist part 14 years ago in Personal More Like This
I've got a bit to say about this, so I'll be divvying it up in several parts!
Part One: Making sure you're ready to take on commission work.
We've heard all sorts of horror stories regarding commissioning artists on the net, both from the commissioner and the commissionee's side. Here we'll tackle how to look at yourself to make sure that you do NOT end up being the villain in those horror stories.
Yes, the extra cash is tempting. You're gonna do what you like to do and get paid for it! Simple, right? Wrong! You will find that as a commission artist, there will
Morrowind FeatureMorrowind Feature4 years ago in Art Features More Like This
The Elder Scrolls III Morrowind is my favourite game of all time, and it will always hold a special place in my heart. I've been planning for awhile to put together a game-inspired feature; unfortunately, it is very hard to find genuine fan art since most Morrowind-related deviations on dA are game screenshots (or manipulations thereof), and I found only a limited number of devs I could use.
For those unfamiliar with the game, Morrowind is an open-ended first-person RPG with an expansive and detailed world, released in 2002. The central plot concerns the deity Dagoth Ur, housed within the volcanic Red Mountain, who seeks to gain power and break Morrowind free from Imperial reign. In addition to the extensive main quest, there are detailed discursive quests for a variety of factions, including various guilds, religious organizations, and aristocratic houses.
Lord Voryn Dagoth had been a good friend of Lord Indoril Nerevar, but they tu
Regarding SOPA and deviantART (update)Our view at deviantART regarding SOPA is that it's probably a bad idea. There should be better ways to deal with mass infringement on the Internet than this. A bit of personal lifeFirst of all, I'd like to thank all of you for your kind reactions on my last journal. I didn't really feel like replying to everyone in person. But I do want to let you know I really appreciate the support I got from you, and I've read every single message.A bit of personal life2 years ago in Personal More Like This
When I first wrote that journal, I was in doubt whether to post it or not. Because, even though many artists experience it at least once in their career, having an artblock seems to be kind of a taboo in the art world. It's like admitting failure. Nobody ever likes to do that. I don't like it either. But keeping this kind of thing a secret, felt a bit dishonest to me. I thought to myself; "Would I dislike an artist I admire just because he/she had an artblock?" and the answer was "no". I would probably appreciate it if a public person admitted something like that, because it would make them seem a lot more human.

Marceline the Vampire Queen FAQSince I get asked the same questions about this costume a lot, I figured I'd write up an FAQ for interested parties:Marceline the Vampire Queen FAQ4 years ago in Personal More Like This
Q: Where did you get your wig?
A: My Finn made it for me. It was made out of two long wigs-- one 48 inch, one 60 inch. They were purchased on Ebay. I don't know the seller, sorry!
Q: How did you do the makeup?
A: It is Ben Nye Character Series cream makeup in Ghoul Grey (CB-8). It was applied using latex makeup sponges and sealed with Ben Nye Neutral Set Colorless Powder and hairspray. I do not recommend using hairspray unless you have someone helping you apply the makeup.
You can buy it here: http://www.frendsbeautysupplyonline.com/bennyecharacterbasecb-8ghoulgrey.aspx for only $3.40!
Q: How much makeup did you use?
A: Evicted! : Medium Coverage (face, neck, chest, shoulders, arms, hands)
Henchmen: Medium Coverage (face, neck, chest, shoulders, arms, hands)

GAME OF THRONES TICKLING: PART IIINote: These characters and the setting are the works of and copyright of George R.R. Martin. If presented with an issue regarding copyright, I will more than happy to remove and/or delete these stories. Some characters are under the age of 18 as well as actresses portraying them on the show. These characters will not and have not been involved in any kind of sexuality. This is a fictional recreation of events somewhere in A Clash of Kings (or season 2). On a separate note, GAME OF THRONES TICKLING PART II and the one below, PART III, have been rather boring (or in my opinion anyhow). Things begin to kick off seriously in Part IV, which should be up within a week. EnjoyGAME OF THRONES TICKLING: PART III2 years ago in Personal More Like This

Malala Yousafzai is reported to be in stable condition after Wednesday morning's operation in Peshawar.
The campaigner for girls' rights was shot in the head on Tuesday as she headed home from school in Mingora.
The attack, in which two other girls were wounded, has been widely condemned and sparked a social media firestorm.
Pakistani politicians led by the president and prime minister condemned the shooting, which the US state department has called barbaric and cowardly.
Thousands of people around the world have sent the teenage campaigner messages of support via social media.

It seems yet again we're not out of the threat from SOPA, to understand what I mean please read this journal that I have copied from :iconsoniclegends: below and.
Some might think that this whole SOPA/PIPA/ACTA thing is no big deal, specially those who lives outside the country, but notice that many websites such as youtube, facebook, even DA and many many more are part of this country, so indeed, this will affect even for people like me living all the way up here in Norway. We have to do whatever it takes to stop these people from commencing their plans and letting theire law prevail! We must inform our government, school, work, everywhere to minimize their threat and hopefully stop them from getting bigger influence. They're literally taking our freedom if we just let this go unseen, so please do your best and spread this message across to wherever u are and whatever u use and to whoever u know, the more people/community stand against this injustice, the bigger is the
Start your own SketchBomb!Hey Everyone!Start your own SketchBomb!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
A while back I teased the idea of anyone being able to start a SketchBomb. Now is that time!
I'm proud to announce that SketchBomb: Open Source! Now groups can form without my direct involvement. I've always wanted to keep in contact and be involved with all of the SketchBombs across the US, but unfortunately I just can't keep up. The hope is that this will increase the growth of SketchBomb and allow all those who have asked in the past to start their own.
The first of these groups is also our first overseas SketchBomb: :iconsketchbomb-newdelhi: run by :iconkshiraj: !
I've prepared a logo pack at this link: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0B1lJ2PYhz1shRTJ5dmUtdk9yYUE&usp=sharing
It also contains the rules for hosting a SketchBomb. I hope it doesn't come off as too tight-fisted, but these rules are in place to make it more fun and inclusive for all. They are at the heart of SketchBomb's success.

Muslims killing people in Paris!Today Muslims (possibly two men armed with a Kalashnikov and a rocket-launcher) attacked a French satirical magazine (Charlie Hebdo) in Paris where 12 people have died so far; in order to avenge their paedophile prophet, Muhammad. Bobby Chiu's 4 keys to setting good goalsGOOOAAALS! The World Cup is the perfect time to talk about goals.Bobby Chiu's 4 keys to setting good goals1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Setting good goals is useful to not just artists but anyone who wants to achieve something.
When I graduated college and started my career, my goals were unfocused. Basically, I just wanted to get a job doing what I love, which in my case is of course drawing and painting. That was my whole goal. I didn't aim for anything more than that, and as a result, my career went nowhere.
Then, after reflecting on my career and examining the careers of people I admired (again, not just artists), I developed a master plan for my success that basically boiled down to four things:
1. Recognize the importance of setting goals.
Let's say you have the extraordinary ability to kick a ball farther and more accurately than anyone you know. As a result, you want to become a soccer player. But then when you're on the soccer pitch and the ball comes to you, you just kick it as hard as you can in what

SexistSo... some of you might know I'm a bit of a feminist. There's a lot of baggage attached to that word, so watch this before you read the rest of this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tnJxqRLg9x0Sexist3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Okay, got that? Especially that end bit? Good. Men and women should be as equal as possible. That's pretty much it. If you think that you're a feminist too. And a masculinist at the same time.
So... there's this game that just done come out called "Lollipop Chainsaw". I saw a review for it and was saddened to see that 1. this game actually existed and wasn't a joke image that I saw on Tumblr somewhere and 2. the reviewer and the commenters didn't even bring up the blatant sexism. Sure, things like this "exist", and they always will in some capacity, but... they shouldn't be allowed to be as mainstream as they are. It speaks badly of the game makers and the immature audience that exists out there. "This is how we see and want our women." Women, in the meantime, don't get much of a say in how they'
