I handsewed the majority of this costume in the span of 3 days during the con itself. I finally was able to wear it on the last day of the convention and was happy that Baron Karza was free for a shoot! :D So here's photographic proof that this costume exists.

I didn't get many photos of Yuuko done because the downside to doing all nighters sewing is a very VERY tired vickybunnyangel. As a result, I lacked the ability to perform like I normally would and almost didn't want to upload any photos. But I promised I'd show you guys what Yuuko looked like, and I can't be thankful enough for the time Baron Karza set aside for us.

I'm overall happy with the way this turned out. Those platforms were killer to walk in while balancing antlers and the huge Yuuko wig on my head.

Cosplay made and modelled by Me

Samsara is the continuous flow of life, time - an endless cycle. It is the cycle in which beings are trapped in to forever die and be reborn again until the day we reach our nirvana.

I spent a lot of time tailoring my Homura costume and making sure the proportions for the collar, triangle things, skirt length, etc. are right. With such a simple costume design, it's a lot harder to hide imperfections.

Homura's hair is a dark greyish black, and not jet black, so I took a dark grey wig and dyed it with a bit of purplish black sharpie dye to darken it a bit to get Homura's hair colour. You can't really see it in this photo, but other photos of Homura the wig photographs more grey than black.

My hand gem was done last minute using paperclay mounted onto craft foam. I didn't have time to cast it out of resin, but I think my quick solution still looks pretty good.

Me as Yuuko Ichihara
Source: XXXHolic
Photographed by: *alucardleashed at Katsucon 2012

I completely handpainted all the swirly clouds just like the artwork this was based off of. A lot of people were amazed I did that, and some thought I had bought fabric that looked like it. I think the most time consuming part of painting was the multiple layers I had to do it in to get that shaded gradient effect with the pale purple and yellow. After the shading was done, I used lots of sharpies to outline all the fine swirls to bring out the wispiness of the clouds.

Walking in the super tall platform heels I modded was also a challenge. They were originally platform stilettos. I couldn't find platform wedges in the exact shape I wanted (or that were tall enough to be accurate) so I filled in the gap between the heel and the toe with expandable foam and made my own wedge :D.

Costume worn by me, and made by me, ~KakeranoTsuki, and ~meameaa

I cosplayed as Miku because my friend Meaghan asked me to. I didn't have time to complete this costume on my own so Mea and Kakeranotsuki came over to my house for a sewing party! This costume was a group effort so I can't take total credit for it. I made the red dress and crown. Kakera made the ruffled white petti, and Mea did the accessories. Kakera also lent me her Miku wig.

Yay for team effort cosplays! The best part was burning, tearing, and splattering the dress with blood.

Me as Homura Akemi

It was very cold the day we did this photoshoot. Looking at the picture it reminds me of how cold Homura grows through time.

This costume was deceptively difficult. At first glance it looks easy enough, and technically wise it isn't hard to construct, but I have never worked with to much bias tape trimming before so this project was a great exercise in mitered corners. Because the design is so simple, it was imperative for me to keep everything very clean and well tailored. I love how this turned out, and the colours I chose for the fabrics worked really well.

I didn't have my hand gem and shield at the time of the photos, but these are test/teaser until Jack and I do a shoot at Katsucon. Stay tuned!

Karuṇā means compassion and sympathy. It is the aspiration to be helpful to oneself and to others. Homura 's initial appearance and actions may have seemed cold, but as the series progressed and her motives became more clear, she is truly a compassionate and loyal individual.

I really like this pictures that James took of me :3. I think the background (which is an air vent) suits the costume pretty well!

I completely handpainted all the swirly clouds just like the artwork this was based off of. A lot of people were amazed I did that, and some thought I had bought fabric that looked like it. I also upgraded this costume from the first time I wore it at Otakuthon. A lot of the handsewn parts I kept because I figure it looks pretty good, so why rip it apart right? I did resew certain parts where the handsewing was too loose.

Walking in the super tall platform heels I modded was also a challenge. For the con I brought a regular pair of pumps to walk around in, and only wore the platforms for photos or walking short distances.

I redid the wig since it got damaged by American customs, but it looks neater now anyways. I also redid the way all the hair thingies/antlers are attached to the wig. I'm using a grid system of velcro and everything stayed in place all day with no adjustment required :D. It was also incredible balanced so I experienced minimal scalp pain for the most part.

WHY IS MOKONA WHITE? I'm getting this question a lot, and all I have to say is the reference image this costume was based on, had a white mokona by her side. I have both white and black mokonas.

See me in action cosplaying as Homura in this video: [link]

Viriya is the pali term for persistence and energy exertion in Buddhist literature. It is a critical quality for Enlightenment. Homura is all about persistence, and she stops at nothing to achieve her goals. That's part of the reason why I like Homura as a character. She doesn't start off as being very likable, but her tenacity stands out.

Jack shot this picture with an ethereal feel in mind. I wanted to convey Homura as someone who transcended normal human beings. Her ability to excel at a lot of things, almost makes her seem super human. I think this photo definitely makes me look like a magical girl :3, and Jack caught a bit of motion blur for my spinning shield!

I custom sharpie dyed a grey wig, to get Homura's dark grey hair colour.

Costume made and modeled by me

Photo by Baron Karza taken at Otakuthon 2011

I've had my eye on this design of Yuuko's for a very long time. It was another intensive fabric painting project and there was a lot of pressure on me to emulate CLAMP's art style for the clouds. I'm very happy with the way the clouds turned out.

The most difficult accomplishment for me was the wig and all it's extensions and accessories. I've never done a hairstyle like that before, nor have I tried attaching so many things to a wig XD. I'm still not satisfied with the way everything is currently balanced, but it'll do until I can think of a better solution.

I took Astharoshe out of retirement so I could shoot with :iconkakeranotsuki: in her Ion Fortuna cosplay.

We both travelled to Montreal just to shoot on location and it was totally worth it!

Thanks a lot to the amazing :iconalucardleashed: for photographing us.
