Woofs Are Serious, So SeriousThis is something I've said before, but that was probably well over a year ago when there were less people to see it.
I don't want people to stop drawing. Anyone, no matter how doofy or weird.
Bad art is still art, and I love bad art.
I don't hate ANY of the art I redraw or fav. All of it brings a smile to my face and it's always a sadness when it gets deleted due to flooding.
I don't redraw things to "make a statement" or "stick it" to someone, I do it because it's funny to me. And sometimes it's funny to me to redraw something by an obvious bait account or something "not that bad".
None of my work is malicious, it was all done with a light heart.
Woofs are for shits and giggles, a woof is not a weapon.
Bad art doesn't lower DA's quality, NON-art lowers its quality. Screenshots, traced bases, demotivationals, photobucket dumps, these are anti-art. Nothing new was created, only submitted. In the case of traced bases; de-created and submitted.
So please settle down a bit when you
I fail at artI was going trough old binders and found some of my ancient "art". Some of it was hilariously bad so of course, being shameless as I am, now it's time to share.I fail at art3 years ago in Personal More Like This
This is how I was drawing when I was a teenager, something around 15-17.
Behold my weaboo phase! Yes, I was drawing animu. I never got a good grip on that style so it's all hideous.

That hand. That space between eyes. That fabric, hair, expression, composition ...well everything.
The next few images I would call "look at me, imma ahrtis for realz" series.
Deep. Deep as a puddle.
Remember kids. If you fail at anatomy just add random lines. Random ass lines make everything better. Yep.
Just look at this person's face. Don't you want to punch it? I do, so very very much.
Dear, sixteen years old akreon, you fucking suck. Don't ever come back.
Posting online is like dancing in a busy streetBefore you share anything online; be it art, photograph, or commentary, you should sit there and just envision this scenario:Posting online is like dancing in a busy street3 years ago in Personal More Like This
"EVERY PERSON ON THE INTERNET EVER IS GOING TO SEE THIS."
And really picture what people who don't know you, and don't care to know you, would say.
Then prepare yourself for it.
Because as terribly unlikely as that particular scenario is; your DA profile, journal, and gallery are still not your private little getaway of the internet for you and your buddies.
And you never know when something you did or said will be featured somewhere with a much bigger (and louder. and meaner.) audience than you're used to.

fandom things I don't understandIf there are two things I don't understand with fandoms it's when:fandom things I don't understand3 years ago in Personal More Like This
1) People say "so-and-so doesn't get enough love" or "this character could use more attention" when it's actually one of the most popular characters in the fandom and you can find at least six billion pieces of fanart or material related to said character by doing one search alone.
2) People think they're "special" or "just weird like that ^__^" for liking 'psycho' characters. The "lol yea im sort of different becuz my fetish is crazy guys/chicks/characters and i guess that makes me strange lolol xD" variety.
Because seeing at least ten million characters, original or established, with the same 'tude grin, blood-covered mouth, goffick or scene attire, and "i-will-lick-this-bloody-knife-to-show-how-hardcore-i-am" generic anime "crazy person" pose is something you'd never find in a million years.
Actually, no. I do understand. I just think it's dumb.
That is all.
Edit: To prevent misunderstanding, that's not to say there

I loved it.
The FiM team is amazing, and I am consistently impressed with the work they do on each episode.
I marvel at the believability they breathe into the world and the characters. From the writing to the music to the animation. Each component is seriously and thoughtfully composed... The emotions of the characters feel genuine, and because the characters take themselves seriously, the viewers connect with them.
Cartoons/animations/comics have immense power... and it makes me so happy to see a cartoon that finally takes that power seriously. Most people dismiss the idea of cartoons being serious, and that is a tragic mistake... Cartoons are symbolic in their expression, and the more "simple" they are, the more symbolic they may become. My Little Pony is the perfect example of this. The designs are simple, but the symbolism is rich with meaning and substance (because the creators care). This is why it is a good show.
Children deserve to be taken serious
Internet TimeWe had the Oscars recently and as usual it wasn't without problems. One of the controversies was Chris Rock's biting commentary about doing voice work for animated films, which was unfortunately insulting to the many hard working (yet perpetually unknown) talents who produce about 90% of all voice work in the animated medium. Chris Rock's joke was funny for his circle of friends and the aging academy, but to younger artists and professionals it was very disrespectful. Voice actress Tara Strong took particular issue with Rock's comment and as we speak his twitter account is no doubt being flooded with angry hate messages and likely racism too... which is very unfortunate. http://www.examiner.com/african-american-entertainment-in-national/tara-strong-attacks-chris-rock-over-oscar-2012-animation-comments-quotesInternet Time3 years ago in Personal More Like This

My favorite ART suppliesI get asked a lot what pens and pencils I use. So I thought I'd post an updated list of my favorites. I'm a big fan of trying new things, I'm always buying lots of different pens to try out and in my search for the best tools to use for creating comics Ive found these to work the best for my needs. My favorite ART supplies3 years ago in Personal More Like This
My number one question that others ask me is "What do you ink with?"
I use Kuretake brush pens. Here's a link to a sable hair brush pen that I love, it's the closest thing to a real brush I've used. It is pricey though. http://www.jetpens.com/Kuretake-No.-40-Fountain-Hair-Brush-Pen-Sable-Hair-Refill/pd/3958
The less expensive version is the synthetic hair, http://www.jetpens.com/Kuretake-No.-13-Fountain-Hair-Brush-Pen-Red-Body/pd/2661 this brush pen is similar to a Pentel brush pen. http://www.jetpens.com/Pentel-Pocket-Brush-Pen-for-Calligraphy/pd/1793
The cool thing about these Kuretake brush pens is the refill cartridges have nice ink in them that I use, but if you find you don't like the

Digital Illustration TutorialI made this tutorial back in 2010 as a pitch for a project that never took off. I finally decided I should just bundle it up as a PDF and upload it for anyone who wants to see it. It's old and the image quality isn't super great, but it covers my process from idea creation, composition, adding color, all the way to the final draft, and there might be something useful in there for some of you.Digital Illustration Tutorial3 years ago in Personal More Like This

Commissions Closed // Anya // BBAHello!Commissions Closed // Anya // BBA3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Well, I received a lot of commission orders. I want to thank everyone who bought one. I will do my very best to make you a piece that you'll love
The list is pretty long, but I'll be working diligently on them. Thank you for your patience while I work my way down the list to your name.
I'll email you when I begin your piece, so that you will know to expect it soon
I'm also delighted at the positive response to my photos of Anya, my domestic fox.
I will have many more photos and videos to share in a few weeks. She is not living with me as of yet - I had to move to a neighboring city because my old city was telling me that foxes were not allowed (even though they had no actual, written law that said this and therefore no legal grounds to enforce this prohibition on me, but they did anyway).
So I bought a new house (with an acre!) and will be bringing her home to Michigan in early May (shes living with a friend in Florida at the moment). So when she's with me I'll have the op
Does anyone else remember being a baby?If so, I have a question:Does anyone else remember being a baby?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I thought it was pretty common, but I've only met two other people who remember, including my mum. I remember a lot of things from when I was a baby, and from about two year old an onwards, everything is as clear as if it were yesterday.
My question is: Before you could recognize yourself in a mirror, what did you imagine yourself to look like? I thought I was a weird grey toad thing in a tuxedo with massive lips and mickey mouse gloves. But I would like to know what other people thought.
More art is coming, in a bit of a block right now unfortunately.
Art help and podcastUnironic question about cartooning vs realismArt help and podcast3 years ago in Personal More Like This
A few days ago I asked for help with a drawing and i got a load of great advice. However, while taking the advice a lot of it helped reinforce a notion that frustrates me. The idea that "greater detail and anatomy = better products." Whenever I get criticism for my artwork, the general notion that I get is that people want me to make art more realistically, with greater sense of detail, lighting, perspective, and anatomy. And while I agree I need to work on all those aspects... I have qualms about being pushed in that direction. I like making cartoony drawings, so at what point do you cut off the realism in favor of being more cartoony? Why is being cartoony more frowned upon or seen as being lazy? One person in the threat that was helping me mentioned that while I did good on the artwork in question, I need to take the info with a grain of salt and be careful not to let people steer me towards being a realistic artist if cartooning
New deviantART ThumbnailsHey folks!New deviantART Thumbnails3 years ago in Personal More Like This
You may remember a while back we showed off some brand new thumbnails in #hq's Journal. Well, after many weeks of porting and tweaking based on community feedback, we finally got these brand new thumbs ready for beta testing!
The new thumbnails
UPDATE (May 19, 2012): Based on feedback received, we've updated the new thumbnails to be justified. Thumbnails are now spaced out across the rows, making them flush against the left and right sides of the page. When a browser's window is too small, justification cannot happen without leaving larger awkward spaces. In these cases, justification is turned off and thumbnails become left aligned. We think these changes present the most appealing interface for both cases.
For those of you who didn't see the new thumbs when they were previewed a month back, here's a re

We won't be strict about the colour of the characters, objects, but the overall picture must give off the impression of the colour you have chosen. In fact, we encourage you to experiment with colours, exploring the depth of toning and lighting using different kinds of colour!
Here are some examples of what kind of artworks we are looking for in terms of colour composition and quality:
If you are considering going into the industry....If you are an artist or want to be one, especially if you want to get into the VFX industry, you should watch this:If you are considering going into the industry....1 year ago in Personal More Like This
It touches on a few things I feel are important to understand as an artist and even as consumers of art:
1.) Art is not an exact science. It can be difficult to put a price tag on it, let alone the often very complicated processes of making it.
2.) Computers are tools that facilitate our work but they DO NOT do the work for us.
3.) Don't get into this industry for the money. If you go into this line of work, you do it because you love it. If someone happens to get lucky or has a really great idea and he/she hits it big, GREAT! Good for him/her. But don't go in expecting that to happen to you. Chances are it won't. If you are lucky, you will find a nice middleclass job you can support yourself and your family on for a while...... until....
4.) Unfortunately, a lot of employers see artists as disposable. When they no longer need you, they will kick you to the curb an

Making comics is fun, and everybody can do it, but sometimes a long epic story can be daunting, so maybe you keep putting off starting a comic. How about some practice on a 1 page scene?
Was there ever a scene you thought would be cool and really wanted to be in the BBA comic?
Illustrate a 1 page scene that takes place in the BBA world and has at least 1 BBA character in it. The plot, medium and style are entirely up to you. You may incorporate your own OCs into it too. Absolutely no experience necessary, it's even better if you've never attempted a comic page before!
To enter, please send me a note with subject "contest entry" linking me to your comic.
Deadline will February 7th.
Stop the perfectionismOn my Tumblr site someone asked me for some general advice for an aspiring comic creator. This is what was on my mind. Thought I'd share it here on Deviantart as well.Stop the perfectionism3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Right now all I can think of is something I've been thinking about lately. And that is the depression some of us artists get about our art. Like our expectations aren't just "My drawings need to be good!", they are "My art needs to be PERFECT."
So I would suggest always try to improve, gain confidence, but expect good/average output. Don't expect perfect art, ever. By doing this only causes you to be frustrated, which in turn causes mistakes, which pisses you off more, then you're stuck in a lame spiraling circle downward to the pathetic whiny artist. Which in turn kills your deadline. Giving yourself freedom from perfection makes drawing much easier and better art is produced and on time.
I'm currently working on this piece where it started out difficult, I had high expectations for it, I was in a bad mood, nothing was
