Nostalgia por el Deviant.2 years ago in Personal More Like This

THE TRUTH ABOUT ACTA/SOPA/PIPA! IT'S GLOBAL!My name is Bernhard BinderTHE TRUTH ABOUT ACTA/SOPA/PIPA! IT'S GLOBAL!4 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'm a freelance graphic designer and Illustrator, a creator that's supposetly proctected by ACTA, and I say "NO!" to ACTA!
I want to give the public, the elected officials and all the supporters of ACTA something to think about:
ACTA was created by the conglomerates because they fear to loose their market-position as the "middle-man" in the long run.
Because what is a publisher, a record label, a software company or a movie studio? A middle man between the creator and the customer. "Intellectual properties" like novels, articles, a program or a song get "sold" via a contract or provided by a service to a company. That company now owns and distributes these properties in forms of Books, CDs, Movies etc.
The Internet gives creators a platform to distribute on their own and can penetrate a global market really cheap and hassle free.
A journalist doesn't need a newspaper, because he has a blog.
A moviemaker doesn't need a theatre, a TV station or a DVD, because h

It's been such a long time, shit, years actually! Things have changed so much in my life and there's so much to write about, but I'll focus on the substance cause unfortunately, one thing has managed to remain the same: time is always against me.
Let's sum it up, emoticons included!
1.- I Left Marvel by the last quarter of 2012 and I don't plan to do digital colors for a living anymore. I'll post my favourites here, though... for all you who dig.
2.- Earned a grant that helped me continue with the production of Turbo Defiant, my graphic novel throughout 2013.
3.- Went nuts (again), sold my apartment and invested it in creating my own publishing company: FIXION Narradores here in Mexico, but we're publishing our titles in both Spanish and English.
3.5.- That means Turbo Defiant is finally printed and now I have almost four th

The Aesthetic of a Broken SoulWe're all kind souls, but the world breaks us. We have the tendency to love and destroy because we're just too brokenhearted . We need to be held and protected because we can't handle it all by ourselves, so we end up collapsing. The Aesthetic of a Broken Soul2 years ago in Personal More Like This
We're beautiful creatures with wars in our mind and poison in our hearts. We want to be the good ones, but we don't find a reason to. It's way easy to break and run than to be broken and run from your childish mistakes.
Beauty is the first to die. We smile, but beauty is more than just looking pretty. It's such a shame people believe that the ones who say it like this are ugly and tend to hide after a cheap quote. We miss the essence.
There's a reason why we don't want help. It makes us feel weak and the world destroys the broken ones.
We enjoy the dark. Sometimes it makes us feel like we're shinning. Sometimes it's the only time we get to hide ourselves and rise as a night bird, making our way to a new world. We love the mystery that covers us whi

deviant familyI don't know if you've noticed but I - like many other deviants - now have a little section for my 'deviant family'.deviant family4 years ago in Personal More Like This
A deviant family is simple. They are people you meet on dA that you'll probably NEVER meet in 'real' life (unless you both go to a convention or something?) and you feel a connection to them. Or sometimes, It's just for fun!
I know we've all done it.... Claimed complete 'strangers' as family. People on here or somewhere else that we feel a connection with. People who we trust, people that take pride in our work and make us feel special.
I have a deviant Uncle, Brother and Cousin.
And I love them all dearly. Hazy - I've known for a while... A year or so I think (had an account before this one).
But Baird and V.S? I only met them recently but they already mean the world to me.
Have you found YOUR deviant family? Someone that you can look up whenever and talk to?

The Adventures of Squicken... Week OneMy name is Cameron Michael but all my friends call me "Squicken". It's a mixture of "Squid" (what Mommy calls my Dad) and "Chicken" (what Daddy calls my Mommy). I was born last Tuesday the 18th, and have learned SO MUCH that I asked Dad if I could write about it here in his journal. The Adventures of Squicken... Week One3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Dad gave me permission so here goes my first attempt at writing. Don't judge me too harshly because I'm only a week old and I've got my hands full trying to learn stuff. For instance, eyes!!! Wow, eyes are tough to control! It's hard to focus them and move them all around. I can't really see all that well yet but I think I recognize Mom and Dad and I CERTAINLY recognize a fine nipple, which makes Dad proud. Of course, I don't have much experience with other nipples but, I have time to fix that.
I spent a few days in ICU (Mom, Dad, and I called it "jail") at the hospital because Mom ran a fever during birth and the docs said they found some indication of infection in the blood samples they took from me
Sleep Death s Little Sister. This is my new short film. I hope you enjoy it.Sleep Death s Little Sister.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Her ragged breathing rocked your cradle. You never open your eyes, you're afraid of her caramelized cough and morbid blue watercolor carefully smeared on your palms. Death keeps your rest until you release to the will the thoughts that touched the candles that fill the room with timid trembling light. And you hear how she calculates dry bumblebees:
- One, two, three, four, five, six, seven …
Seven weeks she sits near to your bed. She draws a deep seas and a inaccessibility of the heavens. She allows to whisper something inaudible to her, but understandable to Somnambulists that are leaning against the roughened wall. Their faces have imprints of your hands, such endless blue …
When the rustling of the last words will be learned, Death will lead them away. She will give each of them a handful of seeds … They will grow seeds in their lungs. You'll forget about Somnambulists when she would bring them out of the room.
You will forget all of th
Better Post-ProductionQuestion:Better Post-Production3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Hello Mickle.. i am very impressed with your work and love how your photos look like. If you find the time i would be so happy if you could take a look at my last few pics .. but mostly my studio work and tell me how to make them better in postproduction (PS). I use 2 lights in the studio, one softbox( for face) and one umbrella (for body) and on my camera a flash (Speedlight YN560) to activate the studio lights, or do you think i am on the right way ... i am using Canon EOS 600D. And again thanks so much for posting your work here !!!
Your best post-production actually begins in pre-production. You should know what a shot can look like in your head and have an understanding of how to get there before committing to taking the shot. Everything you do should be done with intent. It's there in the image because you wanted it there. Techniques were used because you wanted to use them. A happy accident is just that, an accident, they are unplanned and rare.
SOPA, Hypocrisy, Scandal, DMCA, and CensorshipMissing The PointSOPA, Hypocrisy, Scandal, DMCA, and Censorship4 years ago in Personal More Like This
I've been disappointed to see the various responses to SOPA, especially the "DEVIATION CENSORED" images. They so completely miss the point that I can only assume the people posting them have absolutely no comprehension of what SOPA means, why it's a problem, and what they're actually protesting against.
First off, SOPA is not about censorship. Unfortunately, many of the opponents of SOPA decided to cast it as being about censorship in order to mobilize public opinion. Why did they do that? Unfortunately, they did that for two reasons: 1) they knew that without mobilizing mass support, the bill would go through and 2) they knew that the masses they wanted to get support from simply don't care/understand the real problem enough to do anything - because the truth is much to complicated for the typical internet user. I have some sympathy for that view, because I've discovered over and over again that copyright is, in fact, too complicated for the typi
Tip of the Day: the StruggleLearn to enjoy the struggle. Our most memorable goals we achieve in our lives are always extra special because of the many hardships we had to endure before succeeding. Those memories will be some of your fondest when you're successful. Women ArtistsThe other day, I attempted to put together a huge list of some professional and semi-pro women artists over on my tumblr, because it seems like too often women get overlooked when it comes to being honored and recognized. This year, I was incredibly honored to be nominated for a Hugo award in the Best Professional Artist category, but I was a little shocked to find out there hadn’t been another woman nominated in that category since Rowena Morrill in 1986. That’s more than a little ridiculous, considering there are so many women artists out there who are all amazing, who offer unique points of view and design solutions, and who need more visibility and recognition. While putting this list together, I was really excited to find tons of new artists I'd never heard of before.Women Artists2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Tip of the day: The darkest momentsThe moment to shine the brightest is in darkness. Darkness can bring chaos but with it comes opportunity. Many times throughout my career when I pushed past the point when I'd usually give up, this is when I end up achieving my biggest successes. Fate seems to have a way to test us and only the ones that want it the most shall receive the fruits of their labor.Tip of the day: The darkest moments3 years ago in Personal More Like This
