Important news regarding the DGM MangaUpdate-03/11/2014Important news regarding the DGM Manga3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Thanks to DGray-Man101 and mangahelpers, we've been noticed that Hoshino might have an Instagram account.
We don't have a way to verify that but the pictures posting on it being mirrors of her style and the occasional picture of a cat looking a lot like Koro, Hoshino's beloved cat.
Judging by the material posted on it, Hoshino seems to be working on a new chapter. And although there is no actual release information, it seems like we could all silently celebrate just a little. We don't want to jinx it. ~
It also seems to include some new character design on Allen's part. But yeah, worth taking a look, I suppose.
And everyone who ever dreamed of seeing Lavi shirtless gets a treat on the Halloween picture.
But let me repeat: It is NOT verified that this is the actual Hoshino's instagram.

I posted in the comments there, but wanted to archive this in my Journal Entries for future reference, as well as give a heads up to people interested in the topic. It's certainly an important one!! This is less actual for people with a dependable 9 to 5 job, but for a freelance artist it's a must to consider these things, since you never know which of your promotional efforts will get you a job (or which won't). For example, I never would have gotten the TOKYOPOP publishing offer if I hadn't joined the GirlAMatic and WirePop comics collectives; and I wouldn't have been invited to _those_, if I hadn't been putting my comics and things on my own website in the first place
Notes from a Glen Keane lectureEnjoy! He was such a wonderful and lovely person to listen to and meet. I got to see him draw Tarzan, Ariel and Beast. I got to go to a company event, so he shook my hand signed my Tangled book and chatted about what I did for a living and stuff I been working on.Notes from a Glen Keane lecture4 years ago in Personal More Like This
- You want to connect, you want to put your own DNA into the picture and connect.
-Vulnerability. Telling someone who you are. Honestly revealing parts of yourself sincerely. The key to animation is sincerity. Step beyond your walls and share as an artist.
- Animation is the ultimate art form. No other art form will challenge you as much as animation can.
- You always want to be restless, I always had one foot out the door at Disney.
- it is important to not hold back and share all you have to your fellow artists. Got to keep giving it out and trust me it'll pour right back in.

Imagination, Inspiration, and CurationAs deviants, we are serious about our craft, hobbyist or professional. We study hard to become better at what we do. There are many great tutorials here and elsewhere on these kinds of craft based skills and techniques. However, sometimes all that serious study and hard work gets in the way of our imagination. Therefore, it is important to remember to establish a wonder filled mindset, actively seek out inspiration, and curate a library of inspiring content to reference in the future. This article explores some ways to do these three things, and I encourage you to comment and share even more tips on this for other deviants!Imagination, Inspiration, and Curation3 years ago in Art Features More Like This

The biggest part of imagination is playing the part of Peter Pan. You might be 99 or you might be 12, but it is often important to imagination to be in the head space of a 5-7 year old. I
PE: Beadwork What is beadwork?PE: Beadwork3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Beadwork is - as the word suggests - working with beads. Beads are very versatile; they come in various colours, shapes and sizes, and together with a needle, some thread or wire, and maybe - but not neccessarily - a (small) loom, you can easily fashion yourself some jewellery, or present your mother with a beaded flower.
What can I create with beads?
That question has a fairly simple answer: Anything you want to! You can make

Women and Armor: Saying GOODBYE to Panty-Plate P1Hello ladies and gentlemen artists and designers and writers and anyone else who may want a rundown on my take on Women and Armor.Women and Armor: Saying GOODBYE to Panty-Plate P12 years ago in Personal More Like This
Beware: Here be cussin'!
I’m writing this because there is this gigantic upheaval in the comics, video game, Hollywood machine, etc. over how women are portrayed in popular media and I think these themes, themes of women in combat and having to use any sort of armor (or even simply getting dressed for combat) is a subject of major contention. I, for one, and kind of tired of seeing the Panty-plate or exposed important bits and then some dude (or publisher/company) telling me this female character is some sort of fighter.
Now, a little disclaimer before we get started:
While I may pull from sources about this issues and use examples to further my point, I am in NO way bashing someone’s art. Some of these people (mainly dudes) who draw these characters fucking rock. I mean:
Look at that thing. She’s a total badass and I of

My Two cents on Portfolio ReviewsYou know, I see quite a bit of portfolio on a regular basis, and even more so when I go to comic con and CTN.My Two cents on Portfolio Reviews3 years ago in Personal More Like This
This time around was the same thing, I saw quite a few portfolios. Some good ones and some that miss the mark.
There were a few in particular that caught my eye.. a few extremely good ones, and a few that just didn't work, and I wanted to try and share my opinions about portfolios in general.
This is just my point of view, based on MY experience and definitely not a definitely law, rule, or "must do". Just what I noticed in many student's and young professional's portfolios.
The first thing that strikes me is how similar portfolios can be from one student to another..I can almost always tell when one student is from Art Center, San Jose State, Otis, Sheridan or any other major school. It's a good thing and a bad thing. Mainly a bad thing though
Just a few personal thoughts on portfolios since I just came back from comic con and saw a ton over there.
Your portfolio should be a r

PE: Poetry Forms- An A-Z An A-Z of Poetry Forms!PE: Poetry Forms- An A-Z3 years ago in Literature Features More Like This
To kick start this week at projecteducate, we're starting off with a slightly lighter-hearted article listing just some of the poetic forms that exist out there. Lets be honest, there are hundreds and we can't list every single one. This is just a slice of the forms out there and if you are wishing to expand your understanding of different forms, do some research and don't take this as gospel!
Each form has a direct link to a site that describes the form in more detail, usually with examples too. I have also included some good examples from dA when I have found them.
Yes some of these link to wikipedia!

Murder at the Castle! Let the investigation begin!Last night, Cinderella was to host the greatest ball in all the land in honour of her Husband, Prince Charming. It had been months of hard work; every servant and helper furiously putting together the finest of touches to ensure everything was perfect. Let the investigation begin!2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
There was no denying, Cinderella had become highly stressed of late. Organising such a fabulous ball had taken its toll, especially when perfection was her objective. Her inner control freak had taken over and she no longer cared who she upset or angered as long as the ball was exact. Friends were no longer happy with her, she wouldn't keep promises- let alone attend unnecessary events such as Alice's weekly tea party. In fact, even her own husband, who all this was for, had not been in her mind.
The Ball was lavish; champagne fountains, golden swans, shimmery streamers, a stylish d&

I was inspired to create this series by naikki while looking through her gallery of diverse artwork and reading through her journals which are focused on her favorite inspiring writers and thinkers. I felt certain there must be beautiful artwork in the form of portraits and tributes to these writers and their stories. I found most of naikki's choices of quotes to be inclusionary, redeeming and welcoming to any artist on their own path. Instead of just crediting naikki with the inspiration for this new series on depthRADIUS, I also invited her to provide a quote about Herman Hesse of her own to kick off this series.

The Witchas Multifaceted Icon
Throughout history artists of every discipline have been fascinated, inspired and transfixed at every historical stage of the shifting perceptions of the “Witch” in any given time or society. The seams within every page of every chapter written against or in defense of the witch have been alternatively filled with oppressive sexism, blind eyed religious bigotry, occult doctrine, fevered and forbidden lustful sexuality, misplaced fear, and reams of wide eyed superstition.
Consequently, the colors, and lines within every stroke upon every canvas and visceral depiction, carry all the burdensome weight of the long intricacies of this subject. With respect to this much maligned, religiously and politically repurposed, perpetually misunderstood subject

Derpy is the Everypony We NeedAll the anti-ableism people that support censoring Derpy Hooves are the real ableists. They are upset that someone dares to be not normal in a cartoon for children because it might offend the special needs children. So who's being the real ableist here? Could it be that you are the person that's offended because you feel guilt? And honestly, I'm not feeling it. Doug Walker (aka The Nostalgia Critic) has been doing a series where he's been vlogging his experience watching the original Avatar series for the first time (Take a look they're actually really good go watch them! http://thatguywiththeglasses.com/videolinks/thatguywiththeglasses/specials ). He's a new fan to the series and his enthusiasm and critique of the original series has only helped to intensify my loathing and hatred of The Legend of Korra's disastrous season finally.
The more I remember how amazing and awesome the original Avatar series is, the less I am interested in picking up the pieces and following these unlikable characters through another series of exploits, especially after haphazardly killing off the main villain in such a clumsy and awkward way. Not only that, but there's no growth to the main character at all. There's no journey of her learning how to be an Air Bender the way there was
