Since I don't have anything else to say really, I figured I'd talk about the cast of my precious novel, Vessel to the Heavens! (not out yet, sorry). Well, I have two casts of characters, the cast of VttH, and the cast of the two books Element and Crystallize (also not out yet). But I'll just talk about the VttH cast because some of the E/C cast is ChuluSempai180's characters. ANYWAY!
Prince Fenrir Noctua Nibelle Cerberus - 16-years-old- At first, he is shy, polite, and quiet. You think he's a nice, timid, cute little prince. HELL TO THE NO. Fenrir is snide, sarcastic, witty, and very clever. Once you get to know him, he reveals his dry sense of humor, and that he is a jackass.... well, a jackass you can't help but to love. Fen is notoriously stubborn (LORD IS HE DX) earning the affectionate title of "Bonehead." But, still, he has his good traits. Mizuumi-con RecapYesterday was my first time at Mizuumi-con and I can say I had a pretty fun time besides the fact I swear I almost roasted alive in the intense heat. I hardly had time to sit down and rest besides maybe three times during the day. The story is subservient to the gameplay.
Under this mindset, storytelling doesn't quite take top priority in the developmental process. Or, rather, it would be more accurate to say complex storytelling on the level of - say - Silent Hill 2, Deus Ex, Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne, Persona 4, Spec Ops: The Line, BioShock, or Planescape: Torment is not the end goal the developers have in mind, but strictly speaking it doesn't mean storytelling doesn't have some level of overall importance in the final product.
To put it succinctly: basic, simple storytelling is just fine. It's main purpose is to sell the gameplay first and foremost. Hence, "subservient." They aren't working together as partners and thus aren't as equal in value.

At best, I am indifferent with her. Don't get me wrong, I think her research is good, but a few things bother me. One is I just don't like her presentation. It's dry and really matter of fact, which to me is just plain boring. The information is good, but it's just hard for me to sit through. And yes I know that she is working on a book, or other scholarly work, and to do such, well you can't always be wacky. It just didn't pull me in. The other thing is she doesn't allow for comments.
