TIP! Easy Way to Prevent Facebook TrackingFacebook surveils everyone's web browsing regardless of whether they have an account or not, as described in this paper: http://ssrn.com/abstract=1717563TIP! Easy Way to Prevent Facebook Tracking6 months ago in Happenings More Like This
A simple way to prevent any packets being sent to or received from Facebook is to set up filtering using iptables. On most GNU and Linux distributions, you can run the following three commands as root:
iptables -A INPUT -d facebook.com -j DROP
iptables -A OUTPUT -d facebook.com -j DROP
iptables -A FORWARD -d facebook.com -j DROP
The URL can be changed for other sites as well if you wish. Eg - for Twitter's "tweet" buttons run the same commands but using platform.twitter.com as the domain to reject.
For more documentation on iptables, I recommend the Arch Wiki - https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Iptables

How to Compile and install Bespin from source!Ok so I am posting this in case the links I used go away, this way I and anyone else who wants this info will have a way of stashing it for later use. Also want to say thank you to Lars and Tom for pointing me in the right direction for this info. How to Compile and install Bespin from source!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Note: I have only done this on Kubuntu 12.04 x64, 12.10x64, running KDE 4.8.4, KDE 4.9.2, KDE 4.9.3 so anything other than this I can not say for sure will work. I would assume as long as you have the dependencies met it should work but this is just a guess. As Always make sure to back up your stuff before trying anything new like this!
1: Make sure to install all Denpendencies:
- build-essential
- cmake
- kde-workspace-dev
- libxrender-dev
- libxext-dev
- libqt4-dev
- libx11-dev

What Is Blackbox And Why Should I Get It?After taking a look at the screenshots displayed either in my gallery or in :iconblackboxdesktop: 's galleries, a lot of Deviants are asking me what is Blackbox and how (and why) should they use it. And it's a good thing they show interest, because after a period of hibernation, due to many factors (mostly developers dropping out) Blackbox is back with a vengeance. What Is Blackbox And Why Should I Get It?1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Well, Blackbox is a shell for Windows or a window manager for Linux, the styles (themes) being interchangeable between the two platforms, something unique in computing. In this essay I will only talk about the Windows flavor, since it's much more flexible than its Linux counterpart.
What is a shell? Well, it's the dressing over a cake, the clothing over a body, the greenery covering a bush. Every operating system has a shell. The Windows' native shell is Explorer, which is not only a file browser, like most of you may think. Delete Explorer and Windows crash. It's a fine shell, especially in the case of Windows 7, but it's h
KDE 4Now KDE 4.10 has been released, the Smoother plasma theme I'm working on will be ready for KDE 4.10. There is nothing major but I'm just making sure it will offer some of the changes in 4.10, specifically new widget handle icons, adapted thin scrollbar design and some other bits that have changed.KDE 44 months ago in Personal More Like This
It's nice to work on themes that don't break in every release, KDE have done a great job in preserving legacy for theme makers throughout the 4 series and extending customisation, UI options for the users. KDE4 isn't a one size fits all design, so never does it force a hard coded desktop design that's half for PC's and half for other devices(i.e like GNOME3, Windows 8, Unity does), it gives you a desktop the way you want it. KDE also made good decisions at the start of KDE4 with Kwin and desktop compositing, you don't need a separate desktop if you don't have 3D acceleration, in fact KDE4 can use Xrender software acceleration, which gives you some of the features of 3D acceleration(like trans
Text Beside Icons on the Desktop - NautilusI've decided to re-write this little tutorial for those who are interested in a more "Mac Feel" on the gnome Desktop.Text Beside Icons on the Desktop - Nautilus11 months ago in Personal More Like This
First, open terminal and write:
apt-get source nautilus
sudo apt-get build-dep nautilus
The build-dep command will install all the build dependencies for nautilus.
In nautilus sorce folder you just downloaded, navigate to: src\file-manager.
Find the file named: fm-desktop-icon-view.c
Open with your favorite Text Editor and find the line:
real_supports_labels_beside_icons (FMIconView *view)
Below it you'd see this line: return FALSE;
Change it to:
return TRUE;
On GNOME3 and Nautilus 3.x+ search for the file: /src/nautilus-desktop-icon-view.c in the directory you just downloaded.
And look for this line: "supports-labels-beside-icons", FALSE,
Change FALSE to TRUE
Save the file.
Now start to compile Nautilus.
./configure --prefix=/usr
make
sudo make install
killall nautilus
Alt+F2
nautilus
Choose Text Beside Icons in the Preferences.
Nautilus now should draw Text beside ico
My new hearing aid :)After 5 years of trying to get a hearing aid I finally got one this morning, and wow does it make me realise how differently I've been hearing things to other people. I can't get over how loud people seem to be in normal conversations I'd have struggled in before. I keep making everyone jump by being like 'oh my god, I heard that bird!' and laughing at how loud a spoon stirring a cup of coffee was. Its pretty amazing. I've been waiting for this for so long, I've had it in constantly since they gave me it this morningMy new hearing aid :)4 years ago in Personal More Like ThisIts very comfortable, and purple, which rocks!

deviantART and Journal spam: what we're doing!Spam is a constant thorn in the side of every Internet user's daily life. From the mundane to the surreal, these emails appear in our inboxes so frequently, messages from South African attorneys offering $10 million dollars get marked as spam without a second thought to savvy users.deviantART and Journal spam: what we're doing!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
We define spam as the misuse of communication systems to send unsolicited bulk messages indiscriminately to our deviants. Typically, the content of spam messages is aimed at advertising a product that is often counterfeit or potentially malicious. With the rise of social networking, there's been an increase in more direct spamming -- companies who directly target your social network profiles.
"Over the last few years, deviantART has had a small but unfortunate stream of such abuse. Usually, it’s as easy as banning the offending members and moving on to more pressing problems, but recently something happened that caused us to re-evaluate how we handle spam issues."

Arch Linux is ready to rock!As you should know, the AIR is no longer included in Arch .iso, now we must install it using some install scripts, I wanted to try it, everything was boring (I had my reasons), so I re-installed Arch Linux, check this out.Arch Linux is ready to rock!10 months ago in Personal More Like This
First step: Download the .iso
Now instead of six different images, arch will only provide one, the netinstall multi-arch, you can download it here > https://www.archlinux.org/download/
Verify if it's correct, md5sum or something blabla you choose, burn the damn CD and boot using it u.u
Second step: Keyboard layout
This is something extremelly important if you don't use an en_US keyboard as me, so you have to load the right keymap
# cd /usr/share/keymaps/i386/qwerty && loadkeys br-abnt2
Third step: Partition disk and format
As I always have problems with cdisk, I've used my old arch partition, which were in /dev/sda6
# mkfs.ext4 /dev/sda6
Fourth step: Mount the partitions
I just use the root partition when I'm installing a new system, so
