This is for a Green Lantern redesign contest at Project Rooftop. [link] I'm not a huge Green Lantern fan but I really wanted to be a part of it. So I did a lot of research on John Stewart. I knew him best from Justice League and I can relate to his character more so than Hals. He's an analytical architect and former marine acting currently as an intergalactic law enforcement officer of the Green Lantern Corps. I tried to reflect that in the suit.
-Lightweight armor strengthened by the ring. Sufficient on its own.
-Logo on his shoulders because everything about him tells me so.
-Ring generated battle mask, because that's always useful.
I plan on redesigning Beast too, for fan art Friday.

Hal Jordan Redesign Hal grew from an arrogant test pilot to a leader figure for the Green Lanterns of sector 2814. His design revolves around the theme of a pilot and a space cowboy. The costume of a military figure evokes a sense of respect and authority.
Since Green Lantern has an alien ring that is the source of his power, I decided to step away from his "human made" looking costume, and have him "wear" something that couldn't be produced on Earth. So with this new outfit, I tried to make it look like a window to the live and moving galactic energy. Also, I thought that it would've been pointless for him to just have a little mask over his eyes and the rest of the head showing. Ryan Reynolds was still recognizable when he had his mask on in the live action movie, so why risk it...

Guy Gardner Redesign This Guy Gardner's redesign is a mix of his Green Lantern, Warrior days and his Vuldarian bloodline. The redesign is also inspired by NFL Players and the Road Warriors "G" Insignia that Guy used during his Warrior days is incorporated into his costume and power manifestation. When Guy powers up, tribal-looking Vuldarian tattoo will appear on his body.
I guess a different take on GL, not too different though. I liked Jim Lee’s take on GL, the uniform was organic and alien, that was really appealing to me. I thought about how being a ringbearer would have a symbiotic relationship and how more exposure to the ring would cause the uniform to adapt to its wearer. So in the beginning, it would be very alien-like from its last host and then would slowly change to suit its new host. It allows the ring to be a character onto itself, that it remembers its hosts. Its just a thought…
Sometimes my stuff leans toward semi-realism (last submission) and sometimes it looks cartoony, like this. Where's my freaking consistency?!
I feel real bad that I didn't consult the original design, like, at all... but I was pretty determined to create my own personal GL design - with the help of a couple of dA concepts that were floating around in my favorites. For instance, the whole green half thing came from this piece of awesome work from Zander Yurami and The Kid Lantern [link], while the idea of bringing a lot of emphasis to the ring hand came from this [link] (which is amazing and perfect and I wish I thought of it first and I tried real hard to keep myself from copying any aspect of it... though I really love the space camo idea... D: ohmygosh).
I'm sad because I forgot to make his badge glow. Actually I'm kind of sad that I forgot to make more of his costume glow in general. I always think of him as the ultimate nightlight, hence why Batman hates his guts. xD But at the same time I like this more militaristic, darker green scheme going on. Maybe he envelopes himself in an aura or something, like the way Stewart does it in the JL animated series.
I originally drew and colored a close-up of his face with his domino mask on to be included in this pic, but I really botched up his hair and only noticed at the last second, then I accidentally saved over the original, non-merged file. ;C Tears.
I definitely thought the offset badge thing was a cool idea. I felt like it brought about a policeman vibe, which is what the Corps essentially is in my eyes, albeit with a military/ambassador flair.
To explain the full mask idea, I never thought the domino mask was the greatest disguise, so during the small occasions where he has to deal with friends or the press, he has a more appropriate disguise to fall back on. That and he thinks he looks hardcore. <<; All in all, he's usually wearing the domino mask or not at all.
Do you all know who Olan Rogers is? Well, my Hal's personality has some traits based off of him, so to pay tribute I gave him Olan's amazing dimples.
As usual, I'm open for criticism regarding any design or anatomy issues, just don't judge the lineart itself. I know his left hand looks washed out. That's because I had to replace its colors at the last minute. >_o
And yes, I understand that the departure is quite drastic. I uh... hope it's not too bad.
