Illustration Friday time! This week’s word was Scattered, so I came up with Gretel scattering breadcrumbs in the forest to follow in case they get lost. This is the first of three of four images where I want to approach the fable with a new perspective, so more to come!

Super excited for the new Snow White movie after that trailer came out last week, only wish they found a better actress to play the part of Snow White. Also Lime Crime is holding a contest to win a free sample of their new lip gloss. So to enter the contest I came up with this to go with their color, Candy Apple. And I am officially in love with dry brush now.

Recently I got a commission to illustrate a scene from Lord of the Rings with the Hobbits in The Prancing Pony. I don’t normally do indoor environments so this one was a bit of a challenge for me. I was also commissioned to draw Saruman fighting Gandalf, so you have that coming in about a week. Oh and I’m going to redraw all of the Harry Potter covers and maybe you’ll see some Adventure Time piece soon. January’s going to be busy!

I haven’t seen many artists interpret the Mockingjay as an actually species of bird, they usually present it more as an iconic symbol in The Hunger Games. I tried to reinterpret the original design by including some of the well known elements, but took it a bit further making it more like a natural study. I borrowed some of the color and beak features of a mockingbird and was inspired by the Stellar Jay for the rest.

This week I swapped with Ariyana Suvarnasuddhi on Ten Paces And Draw. The theme was Exotic Travels and I was a bit inspired by The Neverending Story for this one. Now off to Key West for a week, be back in July! CHeck out everyone’s pictures here, [link]

My interpretation of the Balrog, Durin’s Bane from Lord of the Rings. I stuck a bit to the movie’s look, but made him a bit more bat like and more smoke than fire. Think Smaug is next. “You shall not pass!”

Okay, so totally went random with this week’s Illustration Friday word, Separated. I can’t believe I haven’t done any Harry Potter illustrations yet so here is one! I was thinking about the final battle in the Deathly Hallows when Harry and Voldemort no long have that connection with each other and the Horcruxes are gone. Yep, definitely steered off topic. But I love how this came out.

Another recent commission I did based on the Hans Christian Andersen story, The Steadfast Tin Soldier.
