Red the first thing that caught his eye. If he had known, he would have memorized every detail of that encounter - the smell, the ambient noise, but most of all, her face. Yes, he would have memorized every detail of that face from the start. Only her red hair stands firm in his memory.

"Your investigation is over, Garrus" Executor Pallin barely finished the sentence before walking away, waving his hand in dismissal.
The words stung; abject failure over damned classified documents. A thin growl escaped his throat at the realization. He'd be demoted. Not only for failing to find evidence but also for butting heads too often with Executor Pallin. Hot blood flushed under his plating, making them slightly swell and push against his armor. The heat pointed his thoughts into sharp accusations. How dare he! Executor or not, no one should forbid access to critical evidence. No way in hell was he going to let Pallin step over him on the largest case he had ever received. Footsteps

Chapter 1 Hunt
"Someone should learn how to drive," Garrus Vakarian thought shaking his head while he investigated the damaged Mako in the cargo hold of the Normandy. He held a great deal of respect toward Commander Shepard, but her driving wasto put it mildlyreckless. Mako was designed to be used in extreme conditions, but at times he thought that Shepard was asking too much from the vehicle and it was his job to fix anything her driving broke. "Next time she comes around, I'll tell her to stop driving like mad, I sure will," Garrus thought.
"Hi there," Shepard's voice jarred him out from his thoughts. "How's she looking?"
Garrus started to turn to face herhe fully intended to speak his mind about the matterbut she was standing much closer than he had expected and for a reason he couldn't understand her hand, which was resting right next to his, gave him a pause. He had never really paid any attention to her hands be

The ultimate weapon of destruction, the Crucible, is complete. It's something that was never completed in any previous cycle , and the Reapers are with backs against the wall.
My interpretation of events is that the Harbinger alters Shepard's perception of reality trying to convince her to choose Synthesis, but she is actually there, inside the Crucible, and her actions do have concrete consequences. It's not just a dream. So we don't see how the crucible really looks like from within, nor we see the Harbinger's actual essence but we only see what he wants us to see. But Shep is awake and the things she does, she does for real, although moving in a reality she perceives in a transfigured way.
On Thessia Kai Leng steals the data from Shepard and gives them to TIM, who is later teleported inside the Crucible by the Harbinger.
There the Harbinger tries to convince him to choose 'Synthesis' but he fails since TIM chooses Control.
But he's indoctrinated and he can't control nothing, i

Chapter 28 That's what friends do
They were again on their way to CitadelGarrus had overheard Shepard giving the order to Jokerafter their post-action debriefing. During the talk Garrus had noticed that Shepard's heart was not in the meeting and guessed that she was still musing on the horrible things Ashley Williams had said to her. An incoming call from the Illusive Man had cut the debriefing short, and now the crew was back to their normal posts.
Garrus heard the telltale sound of footsteps behind his back, and turned to face Shepard.
"Need me for something?" he asked.
"Garrus..." He had never heard Shepard's voice so broken before, and she was blinking her eyes rapidly again. "I just need to talk."
"Sure," Garrus replied, gesturing toward the footlocker Shepard usually sat when she visited him.
"You are my only true friend now," she sighed as she sat down heavily. "Ashley..."
Garrus closed the door and sat next to Shepard.

Chapter 2 Disaster
The trip to their last target seemed to be just as uneventful as the whole mission had beenthey would arrive into the orbit, do some scanning, land the Mako if deemed necessary and be done with it in a few hours. Garrus closed is toolkit and leaned on one of Mako's wheels. As frustrating as their fruitless geth-hunt had been so far, at least he wasn't back at C-Sec banging his head on the byrocratic walls the system had set up. And spending time with Shepard and her crew definitely beat hauling criminals into cells around Citadel. He closed his eyes and rested his head on the wheelhe really liked it here.
"Brace for evasive manoeuvres!" Joker's voice came over the intercom suddenly and Garrus felt the cargo deck lurch under his feet.
"What the...?" Garrus thought grabbing a hold the vehicle that was too heavy to be shaken by the jumping of the ship. The cargo hold didn't have any viewports so he had no idea what was going on

Chapter 11 Settling in
When Garrus first woke up, he couldn't remember where he was or how he had gotten there. His face felt numb and when he turned to his side, it hurt. The pain brought the memories back: the fight with mercenaries, Shepard's reappearance, the gunship and finally the new Normandy.
"Welcome back to the world of living," doctor Chakwas said when Garrus pulled a side the curtains surrounding his med bay bunk. "You slept about fifteen hours straight. How're you feeling?"
"I'll live, doc," Garrus answered. "Thanks for putting me back together. I guess I was a mess."
"You can say that," human smiled. "But you should make a full recovery if you just give it some time. Shepard brought some things for you this morning."
"Why didn't you wake me up?" Garrus asked.
"Commander told me not to," Chakwas replied shrugging. "You've been through a lot, so she thought it was better to give you time to rest."
"Where is she?" Garrus asked. "Can I talk to h

MASS EFFECT 3 ALTERNATE ENDING *SPOILERS OBVIOUSLY*
**EDIT** Holy crap this got way more attention than I was expecting. The comments and support have been amazing everyone!
A few points: Credit where credit is due; this ending, as much as everyone seems to love it, was only created because the amazing team at Bioware created a universe that was so rich and full of life and detail. As much as I know a lot of fans are hurt by what they did, we need to remember that Bioware still created an incredible trilogy, one of the best ever. So hats off to them all round.
Also, this was written really fast and so the ending (specifically the last part on how you actually win using TIM's signal) isn't very fleshed out. I know there are holes, and they can actually be fixed quite easily. This isn't perfect. Also, this doesn't deal with a 'happy' ending. If there were to be one, or you were to even CONSIDER taking the fourth option, you'd need to be damn ready. I'm talking ALL war assets e

Chapter 4 Deathwish
"Honestly, Garrus," Lantar Sidonis said shaking his head while the two of them were investigating the cargo they had intercepted. "Do you have a deathwish?"
Looking at the dead mercenaries who were lying haphazardly around the cargo hold Garrus thought about the matter. Was the work he was currently doing a sign that he had a deathwish? It was dangerous, there was no question about that, but was he taking risks to help the others or was he trying to get himself killed? If the answer was later, he wasn't doing very good job at it as he had stayed alive for more than a year while taking down criminal elements of Omega. But on the other hand, when had his job ever ended the way he had planned it?
"I mean," Sidonis continued when his commander didn't answer his question. "We have been hitting on the three major gangs on the Omega, plus several of the smaller ones. Sooner or later they have to take action against us... Against you. You might be kn

Fae was more of a 'run in, guns blazing' type. This 'be as shadow' bullshit wasn't her cup of tea.

After his angry burst Garrus noticed that his men had started to keep eye on him, especially Sidonis, but they did their best to be subtle about it. He didn't want to tell them off because he didn't want to start another argumenthis men would have just claimed that hey had not done anythingbut after the situation had gone on almost two weeks, it started to get on his nerves.
Sitting on the balcony's rail and leaning his back on one of the supporting pillars Garrus kept an eye out on the bridge below him. His rifle was cradled on his lap, ready to be used if anyone tried to attack his men, who were re-positioning the crates they used as barricades. Sidonis was on the other side of the room leaning his rifle on the pillar while he watched the work.
"I actually wanted to talk to you, Garrus," Sidonis said suddenly, but didn't turn his head. "I might have a job. There is a contact who wants to meet us."

Chapter 3 Breaking up
Garrus was playing with his drink while the four of them sat in a small booth in what had once been the nightclub called Flux. He, Wrex, Tali and Liara had been brought to the Citadel after the destruction of the Normandy, but Ashley Williamswho had been with them earlierhad already headed out with Alliance military leaving her alien crewmates to take care of themselves.
"What Shepard saw in her visions about Protheans is going to be a big help for my future work," Liara said poking at a nut that had fallen on the table. "What ever I'm going to find out, I'll dedicate it to her."
"What Shepard showed me about my own people, about genophage, I will use to help my people," Wrex said sternly. "She showed me what it means to be a battlemaster and now I can be battlemaster to my people."
"I have to take information we found out about the geth back to flotilla," Tali said. "Shepard helped me to complete my pilgrimage and I owe

Chapter 17 Not another gang
In less than two hours, Garrus was back on board the Normandy with his new armour and an improved comlink system he had gotten with the deal. Within those two hours he had also managed to speak with couple of his old C-Sec contacts, who had promised to keep him updated if they learned anything about Sidonis. He had already learned some things about his former turian team member, which made his blood to boil, as it proved Sidonis had indeed sold them out.
"Damn weasel," Garrus cursed, throwing his old, battered armour to the footlocker with too much force. "I'll make you pay for your betrayal."
"Hey," Shepard's voice made him spin around suddenly. "You look like a shining knight in that new armour. Nice."
"Thanks, Shepard," Garrus replied even though he wasn't sure what a 'shining knight' was. But if comparing him to one made Shepard happy, he believed it to be good. "Need me for something?"
"Just wanted to talk," Shepard

Chapter 18 Purgatory
The next day, Garrus had an odd feeling that Shepard was avoiding him on purpose. He saw her walk past the passage leading to the gunnery station several times, but she never walked up to him. In a way, he was happy about her not trying to talk him out of his plans to kill Sidonis, but then again, he enjoyed her company when they were just chatting about things. At least once he noticed that she had stopped to the stairs and was looking at him, but when he looked again, she was gone.
The day after that, Garrus started to be on the edge. He wanted to sort things out with Shepard, make her understand, but couldn't just walk up to her and make her listen.
"Commander Shepard wants you to join the team in the briefing room, officer Vakarian," EDI told him. "We are about to arrive to the Purgatory."
"Purgatory?" Garrus wondered. "What do we want from there?"

"You're kicking ass, Shepard," Garrus complimented her. "They barely touched us. And we got Jaroth in the process. I've been hunting that little bastard for months."
"Why were you after him?" Shepard asked, smiling while she headed to see if the two other humans who had come with her were unhurt. It was simply right that the two of them were together againshe missed all of her friends from the previous Normandy, but more than others she had missed Garrus. The turian had not said so, but she thought that maybe he had missed her too, at least a little.
"He's been shipping tainted eezo all over Citadel space," Garrus spat out, feeling disgustedhe had wanted to arrest that slimy salarian when he had still been a real law enforcement officer, but Jaroth had stayed out of reach. "Half the goods I seized back at C-Sec came from his team here on Omega. I took out a big shipment a while back and killed his top lieutenant in the pr
His Kiss of Choices"Snow?" Garrus asked, tilting his head as he processed the information. Shepard watched her companion carefully and her lips twitched at the sight of his curiosity. The turian's eyes narrowed, but the Commander had enough patience to wait out his apprehension. "What do you mean, snow?" His normally husky voice grew more vicious as he quickly became frustrated. His Kiss of Choices5 years ago in Short Stories More Like This
And he took the bait. Shepard's smile broadened and she felt her fingers twitch with the adrenaline, "I mean the weather- 'snow'. Is there any other kind of snow?" Snorting her own skepticism, she waved any possible answer away as if Garrus could consider one.
"I understand what the term snow refers to, but I'm more confused by your intentions with it," he responded with mild concern. Ducking his head further into his armor, Garrus unconsciously backed up a step, but Shepard had him in her sights. Uncomfortable, the turian's shifting glances focused on the stars passing out beyond the safety of the ship.

A voice of a stranger. Garrus didn't know where he was, who was talking. What had happened?

Shepard and the human man joined Garrus and Miranda on the balcony as soon as they were sure there were no more vorchas in the base.
"Thanks, Shepard. They hardly got through to me," Garrus said, smiling as she came up to him. Shepard noticed that there was something predator-like in his expression and dangerous fire seemed to be burning in his eyes. "And we took out Garm and his Blood Pack. Chapter 14 Dead woman walking
When Garrus, Shepard, and Miranda arrived to the docking facility of Citadel Zakera Ward, first thing Garrus noticed was a group of Human Alliance people. It was kind of hard not to notice them because, the officer's loud voice almost drowned all the other voices around the docking bay.
"This, recruits, is a 20-kilo ferrous slug," the officer shouted at the two young men standing in front of him. "Feel the weight. Every five seconds, the main gun of an Everest-class dreadnought accelerates one to 1.3 percent of light speed. It impacts with the force of a 38-kiloton bomb"
Garrus and Shepard glanced at each other, smiling. They both had military background and they both had been at the receiving end of those speeches in their time.
"That is three times the yield of the city-buster dropped on Hiroshima back on Earth." Garrus had no idea what Hiroshima was, or what had happened there, but Shepard grimaced and that was enough to tell him

The next day, Garrus was just finishing his work putting the firing controls back together when Shepard wandered in. She heard a loud buzzing, an insupportable shrill whistle. Opening her eyes, she saw only a large, white, blurred spot. She realized that she was lying down, but it was not her bed she touched with her hands. Then, into the buzz, she started to distinguish words, and in the middle of the white patch she saw what could be a face.
"Oh, hello Shepard, back with us?" she heard a familiar voice asking.
