Just a little reminderJust a little reminder
Some may love you,
Some may hate you,
And some may make you,
And do better.
Trolls will test you,
Haters will deject you,
But friends will support you,
When you fall,
When you rise,
And when you shine.
So through it all,
Through thick and thin,
Through heartache and adversity,
Never ignore who you are,
Never lose sight of who you want to be,
And never forget those who helped you along the way,
Become a better you.
Thanks for the support everyone
Thank your watchers for their support. Thank your group members for their contributions. Thank your watchees for producing beautiful works. There's a lot of thanks to go around especially in light of the last journal's little incident.

ARTGERMINATION - My Digital Art ChatroomARTGERMINATION - My Digital Art Chatroom3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Many people has asked me about the rationale behind my nickname - Artgerm in many occasions. To me it is more than just a nick, it is actually my mission statement in my art journey, which I would like to see people get "infected" by my works and inspire them to create art. I've been drawing for the past 20 years, in which 16 years in digital medium. Art has already been part of my life long time ago - it is my passion, my profession and my life. Although majority of my time has been devoted to the commercial projects and my family and leave me very little time to impart my art knowledge to others outside of my studio, my mission statement has never and will never change.
As a result, I've decided to setup a deviantArt chatroom recently called Artgermination for all digital art discussions, which I put in a good amount of my time daily to interact with other dA members, sharing with them my journey in art and con
We can all be teachersI have a handful of comments, notes, and emails that I've never reply to because I could never find the right words to express my sentiments properly and would rather not spoil a perfectly good moment with my nonsensical banter. Instead, I keep these comments, notes, and emails marked to occasionally read over them again. We can all be teachers3 years ago in Personal More Like This
This is one of them:It took me a while to decide to take a look at your website. And I did it today, when I was feeling like a complete fool and incompetent, on the brink of giving up my efforts with photography altogether. I have no ideas and I feel that my work just looks ridiculous and amateurish, so I should give up, right?
And then I read this "Don't get discouraged: If you're having a hard time, it's not because you're dumb or incompetent, it's because you're trying to do something hard! Failure happens for a reason. If it was easy, everyone would be super skilled at it already."
It couldn't have come at a better time. Your words of encouragement meant for an

Light painting is a photographic technique in which exposures are made by moving a hand-held light source. It's a fun technique to dry out on a warm dark night For more information on light paintings or for tutorials, just Google around; it's a pretty popular and well documented technique. A quick search gives me: http://www.diyphotography.net/painting_with_light (if you prefer written tutorials) and http://lightpaintingphotography.com/light-painting-tutorials/jason-d-page/orb-techniques/ (if you prefer video tutorials). A tutorial for light painting with portraiture is also available on my website: http://jfotography.net/tutorials-light-painting-with-portraiture.php

Challenge 4: Yellow - TOP 5Dear all friends,Challenge 4: Yellow - TOP 53 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Sorry for late result but we have more entries this time, and even more amazing works .
With a lot of entries therefore it took me while to choose top 5. This time, so many good entries with great concepts. It's really hard for me to pick 5 only.
I don't pick the top 5 base on drawing skills only but also the concept of their entries. But there were more than 20 entries I want to pick as winners :C. But don't worry, we will have more challenges in future.
I think there are too many good entries, top 5 are not enough actually. We call it top 5 but actually I think there are at least top 20 or more, since this time, so so many lovely entries . How about giving out top 10 in next challenge (when we have enough point again, yes). People will get 100 points each, less points but more people who will get it. How do you think about it? Because I think actually this is not a contest, it's just a little challenge for fun and a reason to draw more, practice mo
Anatomy BooksCan anyone recommend any really good anatomy books, I've heard of them, in folklore and stuff, but whenever I'm in the enchanted forest of Bukstorre, the creatures always evade me. I thought I spied one swinging from a lofty branch, and swiped it with my net. But on closer inspection, it was a terrifying medical anatomy book, with pictures of organs and things, which is often the case, and at that the creature chuckled cruelly and clambered back to the tree boughs it called home.Anatomy Books3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I heard titters from behind the bushes, cruel whisperings designed to confuse. As my mind tried to fathom the distant sounds, I deduced rumors of the creature I seek. "But where?" I panted "at what price?". The air was still and I was abandoned. I clutched my bag of coins tightly to my chest, and swore a promise to it. That it would not go wasted on unnecessary quests. Determined to consult the oracle for direction, I transcended to the Web of Wonder, and sought an audience with the oracle of art, who knows wh

Masters of Photography part IIWilliam Eugene Smith (December 30, 1918 – October 15, 1978) was an American photojournalist known for his refusal to compromise professional standards and his brutally vivid World War II photographs.Masters of Photography part II3 years ago in Personal More Like This
He began his career by taking pictures for two local newspapers. He moved to New York City and began work for Newsweek and became known for his incessant perfectionism and thorny personality. Smith was fired from Newsweek for refusing to use medium format cameras and joined Life Magazine in 1939. He soon resigned from Life, too. Smith joined the Magnum photo agency in 1955. There he started his project to document Pittsburgh. This project was supposed to take him three weeks, but spanned three years and tens of thousands of negatives. It was too large to ever be shown, although a series of book-length photo essays were eventually produced.
In January 1972, Smith was attacked by Chisso employees near Tokyo, in an attempt to stop him from further publi
Tips to improve our artwork♣ Hard working - constantly practice even when we don't want to draw.Tips to improve our artwork3 years ago in Personal More Like This
♣ Learning from others artists - no matter who is it, from beginner to master, we can always learn something from them.
♣ Learning from audience - carefully consider comments from other people, their opinions are valuable.
♣ Accept our own weak points - though it is so hurtful, look for them - try improving them instead.
♣ Always be a beginner - there are many things beyond than we have ever realized. Let's open our mind and learn new stuff.
♣ Don't waste your time on choosing tools - choose the appropriate materials - what we like the most is the perfect one.
♣ Only taking a break but don't give up - there are numerous obstacles that await for us in this path - confront and fight them!
♣ Basics are the most important part- then we can adapt to anything we want.
♣ Believe in ourselves - self-esteem needs to be added to ingredient in our work.

What I love about art is that it cheers me up. Sometimes we all need some cheering up after a long week of work or school, and certainly on Monday's when we go back... Plus, ever seen a piece of art that you feel should be seen by so many people? Well now is your chance to get it exposure and to cheer you up!
We have Daily Deviations, we have large features which all showcase many many deviations from many many artists! These are great, but sometimes the gems are overlooked simply because there are so many, and sometimes life is just so crazy that we can't look at them every day so we miss them...
So what's the idea? How will this work? It's simple! If you find an amazing deviation, write up a few words (I would like 2-3 sentences if possible) about what makes it or the artist amazing, and note it to me, TimberClipse. Then every FRIDAY and MONDAY we will fea

The Art & History of the PencilThe pencil is commonly known as a traditional art supply. But, as you can imagine, it took a long journey before the pencil got its final writing & drawing purpose. The Art & History of the Pencil4 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Several centuries ago, somewhere between 1500 and 1565, a massive deposit of pure and solid graphite was found in England. Locals found this form of graphite useful for marking sheeps: the first graphite sticks were born.
In 1662, the Germans made a first attempt to manufacture graphite sticks from powdered graphite. This led to an active pencil industry developed throughout the 19th century.
The first pencil containing a wooden holder was said to be created by an Italian couple. It was designed for the purpose of marking their carpentry.
Two centuries later Nicolas-Jacques Conté, a French painter, invented the modern pencil after he got a request to create a pencil that did not rely on foreign imports, as France was unable to import graphite from Great Britain.
At the same time, Joseph Hardtmuth from Austria, founder

This time in "Behind the scenes" the photo is taken by Marko from Croatia.
The photo was taken in the small town of Labin, Croatia. It was August of 2009 and it was a hot summer day. Since I was a tourist, while sightseeing, I had my camera ready for just about anything.
Other kids were playing around, but those two came to my attention because, unlike the other kids, they were selling seashells. They seemed a bit bored sitting there, like parents told them to do so, unable to play with other kids. I did not want to be rude just by snapping a photo and then walking away. I figured out they would be more open to me if I bought something so I bought a seashell. I think that's the best approach with "merchants"; they will be more comfortable in presence of a camera if I buy something. I can spare some change for a good photo.
I usually try to take street phot
