I wanted it to look a bit like Alice in Wonderland being caught with her hand in the cookie jar. When you're caught doing something you know you shouldn't be doing it alters your perception of the situation and forces you to make a conscious decision. I was interested in representing the point of decision (which always exists even if you're not aware of it), where you'll have to choose between the good and the bad, or in this case between the deadly sin of gluttony and the virtue of abstinence.
Note: Yes, the halo is very much intentional. I wanted the look to be reminiscent of an iconic portrait of a saint.
I wanted to do a fanart since I saw the movie, and now that I´ve finally read the book I´ve decided to do a cover illustration of the book Howl´s Moving Castle by Diana Wynne Jones instead!
The Characters look different in the book, even the moving castle itself, and they are a bit different in their personalities. I got the feeling the movie tones their character traits down a lot I loved the book, every word is worth reading!
I think it doesn´t much look like a cover thou, I really need to work on that.
Edit 16.3.15: I just wanted to say I´m very grateful to all the people who liked this! It´s been a while since I´ve painted this, I´ve learned a bunch. And there are still favs coming in on this! This picture wasn´t the best I´ve ever painted, but it was an important one for me. So thank you for the over 80 favs on this!
