Google Maps had a Wikipedia layer that brought up links to Wikipedia articles connected to the region you were surveying. It was a brilliant way to learn about locations you have not yet visited, or to delve into an area's history.
A week or so ago, and apparently with no warning, Google removed this function and have now been flooded with complaints.
Is it just me or are big name companies growing increasingly incapable of doing ANYTHING right?

I love having this kind of thing playing in the background while I do my work.

(RANT) What it is to be WRONGSo I just got another comment explaining to me how someone's friends are really mean and evil- and how only their cosplay friends act this way, and it's always just in the community… how the community is really horrible and twisted- and people are so friggin mean- and I just want to point out something of relevance and address this because it's really starting to confuse me… just because of this-(RANT) What it is to be WRONG2 years ago in Personal More Like This
It's not 'just your cosplay friends' or 'just the community' it's everyone.
Humans act this way.
People want validation for their work, time, effort, and artists are one of the biggest roles in which the only validation you generally get only that, and sometimes people don't even get that pat on the back.
It's really tough out there.
So yes- human beings may attempt to out shine you, or put you down- or accuse you of things- it's habit. This would not apply just to the cosplay community- have you ever had to put your art in a gallery? Trust me- not everyone is going to be all thumbs up if your
Legend of Korra: Costume Design! One of the neat things about being the lead designer of a show like Young Justice is getting to interact with the fans through sites like this one, seeing the awesome fan art you guys do is a big inspiration for myself and a lot of the other artists and writers on the show. It really keeps us motivated knowing that you guys and girls appreciate the characters and stories we are creating. Along with great art my other favorite aspect of fandom, and easily the most hardcore representation of it, is the cosplayers and their dedication to show accurate costumes. So with SDCC right around the corner I thought I would share a little something interesting with all you Legend of Korra fans out there, as well as cosplayers in general. Last year at around this time my good buddy, Joaquim http://2-cents.deviantart.com/, who is a co-executive producer on Korra, asked my wife, she is a clothing designer by trade, to create a show accurate Korra outfit to be worn by the official model representing tLegend of Korra: Costume Design!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Tips and featureI noticed that some of you work in small sizes when doing a photo manipulation. Of course working in small size is easier to cut corners, but most of the time it looks unfinished. You should try working at a higher resolution with high res stocks. It is more challenging to blend elements and to go over each detail. It also allows you to print your work in great quality afterward. My works are always higher than 4000 px width or height depending of the orientation. I resize down a jpg version before uploading to dA. Another tip, use the pen tool for cutting. Nothing really compares to that tool when it's time to perfectly cut something from a photo.Tips and feature2 years ago in Personal More Like This

Girl Scouts of AmericaThe Girl Scouts of America are marvellously allowing transgender girls (male-to-female) to join their ranks However, this group and their associates have decided that hate and discrimination are better ideologies for the Girl Scouts.Girl Scouts of America3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Children are innocent. Don't subject them to your transphobia or hatred. Let the adults shoulder that if you really have to throw your faeces at someone.
All I can think of is how hurt these poor little girl scouts must be. They already deal with enough, being born in the wrong body. Now you're telling them that they're bad people for something that they can't help? I'll tell you what. I wouldn't feel safe sending my daughter into a girl scout troop with a bunch of hateful Bible thumpers. I'd much rather send my daughter in with a troop that offers positive messages of un-conditional love and acceptance for mankind.
Keep in mind that the same group is trying to boycott the Girl Scouts

What if you could wear your computer or smartphone as a neck tattoo someday?
Motorola has patented the concept of an "electronic skin tattoo" for your throat, equipped with an "embedded microphone" and "a transceiver for enabling wireless communication." This futuristic tattoo would help you communicate with smartphones, personal computers or other "mobile communication devices."

Children's Literature, Morality + Changing IdealsIntroductionChildren's Literature, Morality + Changing Ideals2 years ago in Literature Features More Like This
With the invention of the printing press in the fifteenth century, and its gradual integration into society, people at last had access to literature. It was William Caxton who first saw the opportunity to make money by printing and selling those stories and fables hitherto told by word of mouth.
At this time, literature did not have age-specific target audiences. Inevitably, some stories appealed to children more than others. Robin Hood was especially popular, while Aesop’s fables offered entertainment and life lessons to adults and children alike.
It is, of course, impossible to say exactly when and how literature was identified as a useful tool in teaching morality to children. It is speculated that there was no concept of ‘childhood’ before the eighteenth century, although historians debate this, as historians are apt to do.

My opinion on cosplayOk so this has been nagging at me for a while now...My opinion on cosplay1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Lately (at least here in Sweden) cosplay has become this huge competition and there are a lot of people bashing other people if they don't have a "perfect" cosplay ...and it gets on my nerves like nothing else!! Who the hell decides what a "perfect" cosplay is anyway??
These days I hear oh so many people saying "They really didn't do that very good" or "OMG did you see that wig? horrible!" and stuff like that, and it just makes me so sad! Have they forgotten what cosplay is really about? Having FUN, and expressing our SHARED insert for something, making our favourite characters come to life, play around and meet new people. NOT looking down on others coz you think you're better than them! I makes me ashamed to be a part of this community.
I just read a post on fb where this girl wrote that she couldn't believe why people buy cosplays, and basically said everyone who doesn't make their entire cosplay themselves aren't real cosplayers.
on facebookim on facebook now too.. still a total noob there so i have no idea if i set up everything correctly there.. but as far as i have seen it looks really promising to show of my pics there now as well.. so i hope i see you there too...on facebook2 years ago in Personal More Like This

SAVING MONEY AS A COSPLAYER... IS IT POSSIBLE!?Every single cosplayer in the world has one painful problem that we can all relate to: we're always broke. Always.SAVING MONEY AS A COSPLAYER... IS IT POSSIBLE!?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Fabric, thread, machines, paints, wood, tools, thermoplastics, LEDs, mould castings, brushes, dyes, wigs, make-up, contacts, boots, prosthetics, convention tickets, travel expenses, luggage, skin care, gym... the list goes on and on. Every single cent we earn, we constantly throw it all back into making our beloved costumes and feeling good for a few hours while stressing for months prior-hand. Non-cosplayers may not get it, but we do. For us, it's not a sacrifice. The chance to hone our creative spirit and create something from nothing is a rewarding life experience. Some think that the cost of an outfit is more valuable compared to medication and psychological sessions.
But like it not, we've all gotta come to a conclusion that the hobby must come to an end for us one day, and to have some money saved up for your next step in life is a greater advantage than having nothi
IT'S CAPALDI!!!What can I say? I'm over the moon about the casting of the 12th Doctor. As watchers might know, ginger acting powerhouse Ruth Wilson was my first pick, but once the rumors started that Peter Capaldi was in the running (despite his previous appearances in TORCHWOOD and WHO), and the announcement that Wilson was already doing a new series for Showtime, he shot to the top of my list. Even without Whoniverse connections, he was a fave of mine b/c of THE THICK OF IT and, of all things, his recurring role as Sid's dad on SKINS (yes, I watched SKINS- deal with it). He's also an old school Whovian. Like Tennant, he's "one of us", living out a childhood dream. That's ridiculously cool. The guy even has a freakin' Oscar, making him the first Doctor to hold that distinction (look it up).IT'S CAPALDI!!!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
That live announcement was a lot of fun to watch. I had talked myself out of the possibility it could be Capaldi, but when Moff implied it wa

I am so thankful to Gold Coast Film Festival for inviting us this year. It was an incredible expereince, and one that was really unlike any other con or event we've ever been to. I think what really hit me was being in a van with the other Film Festival guests (Lucas Till (Havoc from X-Men: First Class), Natalia Tena (Tonks from Harry Potter), Vic Mignogna and other actors while driving to Supanova's Dreamworld After Dark. I thought "here are some famous people, and we're included in their group... this is NUTS!". We also had a booth that we were stationed at for Supanova and I didn't notice until one of the staff at the booth told us that

I don't have a lot of time to spend here, I try to thank everyone who faves my works or leaves me a comment or anything else, but I am always disappointed about not being able to leave as many comments to others as I would like, or to be more involved in this community.
So, I decided that at least for my first DA birthday I will make a feature for some of the people I have met here. Some are friends, some are those who supported me during this year in a way or another (and that's one of the things that pushes me to improve), some are just fabulous artists I have found here whose work I love and is of inspiration...
I guess I'll forget someone for sure, please forgive me and in any case keep in mind that even if you're not among the featured ones... I still thank you all for your support and friendship and everyhting I found here at DA.
Stay with me the next year too.
