20 Years of Spider-Man ImprovementHey Friends--20 Years of Spider-Man Improvement2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I moved recently and things have been busy, so I won't be able to get a new comic up this week. I'm working hard on it right now though-- it's the biggest one so far-- the title of the essay is going to be: "Hug the Elephant." Please stay tuned!
In the meantime, I wanted to show you something special. I was digging through old sketchbooks while packing for the move and I found these little gems-- drawings of Spider-Man I made from age 6 onward. I've been drawing Spider-Man periodically for about 20 years!
Here's my progress!
Seeing improvement is fun, isn't it? Today I decided to draw another entry to the spiderman series:
I want to encourage you guys to revisit your work every month or so. If you are consistently making things, you'll be able to see a progression in your work, which helps you keep going.
See you next week!

This weekend I painted a large mural in Chinatown!I love painting large and it is always an honor to be asked by a wonderful organization to paint at their space and represent their community visually. This week I was asked to paint a piece in Oakland Chinatown at Lincoln Square. An amazing community center the has droves of smiling people enjoying the giant ship like playgrounds, the expansive b-ball courts, and sword fighting in the lawn bowling court, to name a few. The ages ranges from 1 to 100+ and all the folks were super stoked to see this painting in process. My good friend Christopher Mackessy, ( who took most of the photos for the deviantART Gear Shop,) is also a painter, As well as a teacher. He procured the walls through the community center with the blessings and we spent the last 2 days painting. Many of his students came out and we fitted them with brushes and oversized tee shirts and they went to town with our instruction. With the help of these smiling pint sized 8 year old Picassos we crushed it with a mixtureThis weekend I painted a large mural in Chinatown!1 year ago in Art Features More Like This

Below is the latest installment of my "favorite faves" -- the best, in my opinion, of works I faved recently. Some of these pieces you have no doubt seen; others you may be viewing for the first time. If you come across something you like please let the artist know -- give them some DA love in the form of faves and comments; also take a look at their galleries -- you might like their work so much you'll want to watch them!
Remember, everyone could use a little more DA love!
(Many of the works shown below are included in the galleries of two groups I recently started. Only a week left till the "Norouz" celebration in Persia.. each year we're celebrating the first of spring as the first day of our new year..
so happy Norouz to you all ..
Please List your used tools..
Many, still are not listing mediums in their comments on their work. You will be getting a link to read regarding this. We really hate declining work for such a silly thing but we can't keep asking each and every one what they used. May I remind you that we are nearly 9,000 members. You can imagine the time it takes for us admins.
Also, because the "asking" process may take too long, the works with a listed medium are being accepted faster..
So listing mediums means your artwork will get into our gallery faster than others!
We have also decided to change the Mentors Corner and critique folder a little bit. We've noticed that there are less and less submission to the critique folder. Maybe some don't realize it is there, others may notice that there are n

I am a High school senior at the moment, and I'm choosing colleges to further develop my inspiration for art.
Right now I'm in a rut to decide which school to go to and how I am to pay for it.
I've been drawing everyday since I was a child but my art hasn't gotten to the professional level, ya know like yours.
What do you think I should do?
Re: Did you go to school for this?
I greatly appreciate note and I can say that I know exactly how you are feeling about the next steps from high school into art land. On your page it says "I am an upcoming artist whom generally started out drawing marvel superhero stick figure comics and grew up wanting to become part of Marvel's team of comic artists." I can honestly say now

Now primarily stencil artists tools break down into three categories;
The sky really is the limit here and pretty much ever stencil artist swears by a different medium, I've seen stencils made from cereal boxes to metal to material to plastic milk bottles and everything in between. Ultimately it depends on what you want from your stencil; Such things as repetition of use, detail, ease of travel, whether you are stenciling on a horizontal surface or vertical even whether you'd doing it upside down can all be affected by what you cut the stencil from.
The best, and only, way to find what works best for you is to experiment, something that after years of stenciling I still do. So sorry I can't just tell you the best material to use and you pop off and make amazing stencils straight away. I can however give you a few tips on what to consider and what to look for.
Some things to consider are the thickness of t

-Why don't you just take a photo and a bunch of other stupid yet justified questions-
After years of being bothered by the same question , I have finally decided to write down my feelings and thoughts about this issue. And I think the timing is perfect considering I've somehow reached a stage of finding satisfaction in my own work; which will hopefully result in this journal being informative, interesting, maybe even educational, but above all stop people from being prejudice. If I had written it earlier it probably would have resulted in ranting and raging, at least to some degree.
I hope you will enjoy this read, but unless you think you can relate or learn more about some things, stop reading because this is going to be LONG
Let me start by asking you - what about your own work makes you feel like an artist? What makes any of us 'artists'? Many people imagine artists to be somewhat like mad scientists, but the
