Project educate - Interview Niles RockwellNilesRockwells art is simply breath taking. Here is a man who has worked hard to get to where he is now. The fusion of styles in his work is both seamless and original.Project educate - Interview Niles Rockwell3 years ago in Personal More Like This
What name do you go under, and what are it's origins?
I go under the name Niles, It came about pretty simply, i wanted to pick a name that was a recognizable normal name, but wasnt completely common. Alot of the time when you make the move from graffiti into the traditional art world you get asked what your name is ...at which point i would tell them what i write, seeing as i had became used to answering with my graffiti name since that is the world i came from. and they would say "no your real name" That question bothered me....i dont like sharing my real name if its avoidable...it comes with the territory, and i would have to either explain it to them and look like an asshole, or just fork over my real name the first time meeti
Frozen Review (no spoilers)Saw Frozen finally. Gotta say, it was much better than I thought it was going to be.Frozen Review (no spoilers)1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Like many of you, I was privy to the ongoing “takedown” of this latest Disney cartoon through various forums and blogs online. And this is a spectacular reason why you shouldn’t judge a book by it’s cover. So much of the pre-release hatred was focused on trivial things (some of which had been changed without the community knowing for a long time) and on pointing out minor technical errors that I kinda feel like people were WANTING to hate this movie from the start. (And full disclosure here: I even participated in some of that pre-release hate.)
To be honest, after I saw it I felt kinda “meh” about it. But the more I’ve let it sink in and the more I’ve thought about it after the fact, the more I began to appreciate it (Which is always good). It’s better to have a movie start off meh and become a favorite over time than one which y
The Hobbit: An Unexpected JourneySaw The Hobbit last night. It was very good... if a bit long. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for seeing all the little details interconnecting The Hobbit to Lord of the Rings and all that, but for the average watcher... eh... it kinda dragged. I overheard several people saying they fell asleep during the film, and I noticed more than once a number of people fidgeting and looking at their watches. Still, it's a damn fine movie and It's a shame we have to wait so long for the next two films. The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Having The Hobbit being written during the beginning of Lord of the Rings is pretty smart. You could effectively watch the 3 Hobbit movies and then immediately move right into the 3 Lord of the Rings movies. Kudos to Jackson for that, it'll be great to marathon run the two trilogies back to back.
This movie was, like the book, much lighter and funnier than The Lord of the Rings and I was surprised at how much from the books they actually kept. They

February 15th 2013 was a milestone for my time on deviantart! Its my 10 year anniversary! Wow, that is quite something! I can't believe its been that long since I first joined the site! The years have just rolled by! There have been so many people come and go over my artist progression, people who have inspired me, people who've become long time friends, people who have since departed the site and are dearly missed, and people who could do with a slap... of LOVE!
As part of my celebration for all of my 10 years of artistic endevours, as promised I am holding a contest! Yeah, I can see my once quiet page lighting up with activity to try and c
Feature: The Child's DreamWithin every person resides a childFeature: The Child's Dream10 months ago in Personal More Like This
Buried beneath the learning and defenses
Our tools to cope with life
The child remembers happiness and pain
We wear masks to protect us
To explore our worlds
To create arbitrary differences
Peeling the layers back we find
A fundamental sameness
And a universal destination
We dream of greater meaning
A connection beyond our souls

Feature #5 - All the Beautiful ThingsHello, and welcome to the fifth feature of "All the Beautiful Things." This series includes pieces that can be described as lovely, charming, mesmerizing, magical, ethereal, or well...beautiful! I must admit, I skipped a feature for the month of March. So this one is longer! Let's just call it the major feature of spring. You'll notice a lot of flower photos and other works conveying the liveliness of this season.Feature #5 - All the Beautiful Things1 year ago in Personal More Like This
So without further ado, I present to you these wonderful pieces. Feel free to show the artists your support by giving them a , comment, or even a .

SYAC and Alex Ze Pirate will be getting iPhone/iPad/Android apps!
Fresh Epics is working with someone designing the apps and hopefully (if all goes well) they'll be ready to download before the London MCM Expo this month! Right now only the iPhone and iPad versions are close to being finished. The Android version will be a little bit later, but it is most definitely being worked on and it IS coming soon!
The apps are pretty simple. You open it up and get the most recent comic on our sites. You can browse through the archives, read the descriptions, e-mail them to friends, and post them on facebook. Of course an internet connection is needed to view them, so if you're somewhere without the internet or wi-fi you won't be able to view them.... Unless you fav the ones you like! Unlike other comic viewin
PROBLEM SOLVED!Guess what? We got the hacker! He's fried now! No more worries!PROBLEM SOLVED!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
There's deviants who's been hack groups by becoming a Co-Founder then deleting all of the group deviations and replacing them with Very inappropriate drawings like porn and that stuff!!!

Missing the PointI've been noticing a trend lately where people seem to deliberately be missing the point behind stuff in order to complain. I used to think it was just me, as I watched people write up lengthy articles nitpicking and "debunking" a comic I made because they simply missed the point, but I've started seeing it happening to other people too.Missing the Point3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Recently over on The Oatmeal, artist Matthew Inman made a joke about guy gamers vs girl gamers. The joke was pretty simple: A guy gamer makes a mistake and gets bitched out by his fellow teammates online. Contrast to that, a girl gamer makes a mistake and her fellow teammates try to comfort her, tell her she's doing great, and make suggestive comments about hooking up. To me the joke was clear, guys treat girls differently online. However, that's not how the rest of the internet saw it...
From what I've read of the whole Oatmeal flare up, the reasons for the hate seem grounded in the fact he depicted the girl as blond and bubbly (ie: stupid) and not as
Window to the World ContestTime for a new contest!Window to the World Contest3 years ago in Personal More Like This
The group is called UN-Global so obviously we see the world as a global community without borders, without segregation. So, this time we want to see something that is universal to all of us as human beings. Submit to us a piece that speaks the International language and can be immediately understood by all.
The Rules (pay close attention):
- The piece has to be original, new to your collection. Your work can not come without the metadata attached that dA displays normally so we can verify date.
- Image can not be found on any other group until contest ends.
- As usual all works need to follow our guidelines closely and we will not accept works without a decent description.
- As with our previous contest, less than 15 contest submissions voids the contest.
$200 (USD), full critique, one month display on our homepage.
These next ones are awarded based on need;
- Payment towards a piece of art on dA you have wanted, not to exceed $30
- dA points, not to

Sins of an ArtistI've been under fire recently for having the audacity to admit publicly that improving my art has never been, and never was, an ultimate goal of mine. Apparently that's like committing some sort of mortal sin in the art community. I've had trouble expressing myself about it too, because brushing off improvement for improvement sake makes me look like I'm uncaring, egocentric, and stubborn. But after a recent post I was given much more clarity in understanding the issue and I wanted to share my thoughts with you.Sins of an Artist3 years ago in Personal More Like This
In the recent exchange I was basically told this: "If doing what you love isn't about dedicating your life to improving your art, you aren't an artist."
Maybe I'm old fashioned, but making art has never been solely about the technical expertise. Even in college, outside the handful of foundation courses you take in freshman year, perfection of the craft is often secondary to concepts and ideas and your ability to evoke feelings and emotions in your audience.
Digital/ Traditional Art Features/News UpdateDigital/ Traditional Art Features/News Update2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Before i start showcasing some of the amazing art i seem to be coming across in midst of my search for stock images. I have a bit of news for my friends and watchers, i think i am on the verge of returning to my digital paintings again, i haven't done any of these for quite some time. What has brought this on well first of all i belong to a community such as this place where there are so many different artists and photographers all unique and gifted at what they create. And secondly i feel that at last i can now take my time with the life i have now a key element to this is about learning and trying out different things.
You may recall a journal i wrote a while back giving everyone a small insight in how did i get to where i am now, and in the last day or so i did a rather big feature where i trawled through probably hundreds of images covering subjects such as Artisan Crafts, Traditional and Digital Art,Mixed Media Fine Art, Design and so on, i think the more you get to know me
