So after getting much helpful critique and looking over the image some more I went about reworking it, this was the outcome, I saw the new star trek movie and that actually helped a lot with revising the lighting a bit and adding more distinct lens flares haha.
So basically its a big alien ship firing onto a planet and making a huge shock wave that disintegrates most things in its path like poor hospital ships evacuating the planet bellow, it also erases the planets surface turning it into a desolate ball of rock. The idea is that the aliens go around and "save" planets from the civilisations living on them, they decide if the race is exploiting its resources and harming the planet by doing so then if they are they wipe the slate clean and let the planet start a new. Kind of a more violent version of The Day The Earth Stood Still.
UPDATE: Fixed star upload problem. "PLEASE DOWNLOAD THE FULL VIEW!" dA's uploader is a bitch.
So for this image I wanted to try a couple things I was lacking in and haven't done in awhile. Usually my images are quite light-dominated and featured during the daytime. So without further ado...
This announces the 3rd piece of my Natural Beauty series: AND my contest entry to Eternal Reminiscence.
"Night sets and the bustling world of Eden and her lovely moons ignite in awe."
I noticed recently that I have not done any planets that consisted of cityscapes in a very long time. That said, this piece is just that. Spent a lot of time on interesting compositions and redid the the rings around the main planet numerous times till they came out just right.
Please no commercial use of my pieces. Use as Wallpapers are O.K. ^^
This time its a destroyed moon from some lost system out there on the andromeda galaxy. The moon hited by a huge asteroid some moments ago is forced to crash against the mother planet, and everyone has no other choice to follow their final destination...space
The Samalah, once a derelict hulk floating through the far reaches of space. Now salvaged and repurposed as a pirate carrier. Much of it's outer hull has broken apart giving it a fractured appearance though, its integrity remains despite this. It measures nearly 1000m in length.
It's suspected this vessel used to be much larger but due to the damage and age of the ship the exact size or shape cannot be determined.
Not my actual EVE submission but something like this
Hello everyone, I decided to enter Give the Gift of Art Challenge, there is no way I will win with this, but I never really entered anywhere, so I thought it is time for change ... I hope you will like it. I made the picture for my new friend Andrew Hindle. He is a man with great imagination and I think it would be great to give him that sort of flight in space, especially in that spacecraft
Finally, my entry to the EVE Online competition is submitted (at last minute as always!).
My starship, named Daedalus, was based off of the Merlin class frigate (for those of you that are familiar with EVE) and was an attempt follow the design sensibilities already found throughout the Caldari Navy. On top of this I attempted to give it an iconic design, something that would fit its title as a navy flagship.
I'll include the written description from the piece here (due to its small font on the actual work):
Originally conceived as a flagship vessel, the Daedalus was intended to lead auxiliary attack groups against the numerous Gurista incursions along the Eastern Rim; its imposing and recognisable visage intended to intimidate the comparatively smaller pirate navy. After a large number of successful engagements, the Daedalus-class battlecruiser, having proved its worth, was transferred to the much larger primary fleets, filling a fast-attack turret based offense role.
By YC106 however, the Daedalus had fallen out of use, in part due to the surge in production of the Ferox and Drake class battlecruisers. Their upgraded missile systems and tank-based role in battle, by this point, were favoured over the offensively capable but defensively weak Daedalus. In time it was almost completely absent from the Caldari Navy, with the few remaining vessels left fulfilling political roles as private, diplomatic transports.
After the Gurista involvement with the Innovaatio Varustukset Corporation in YC109 and the resulting kidnapping of one of the coporation scientists, it was recognised that Nugoeihuvi's Internal Security division were deploying a number of Daedalus-class vessels in their search for the missing scientist and his pirate captors.
Recognised by the Caldari Navy for its high-risk, high reward combat effectiveness, this security operation signalled the return of the Daedalus to active fleet status.
The ship was designed in Google Sketchup, given a simple lighting render and then textured in Photoshop. All space work and graphics were also designed in Photoshop.
Credit to Video Co-Pilot for use of one of their optical flares. The icons in the work are property of CCP.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy my entry and good luck to all who entered.
This moon has been infected... ...in fact - it is infected for millenia. These creatures need a lot of time to evolve - they are pretty harmless (except the fact they make their nests from moons and planets that have molten core). Their eggs orbit around the nest (moon/planet) for really long time until they hatch. They probably don't need air or any other known elements to survive. All we know is that they prefer planets/moons closer to stars and need a lot of heat/energy to give birth to the young ones.
//Inspired by Farscape series. Living Leviathan ships gave me this idea.
Edit: Added some details here and there, changed colors here and there. Nothing dramatic.
