The Word of KurtzI was checking the "links" section of my website, just to make sure everything was still working as I hadn't actually clicked on anything there for a while, and I found myself on the PVP website. The Word of Kurtz4 years ago in Personal More Like This
"A while" was obviously "a few years". I barely recognised the strip!
Anyway; I'm not writing this to bitch about hating change (I'll save that and put it into Sequential Art), I'm writing this to relay a very good point the good Mr Kurtz made in the PVP blog:
"Everyone is kind of freaking out right now because of the Gary Friedrich case. Long story short, the guy who created Ghost Rider in 1972 sued Marvel, claiming that they never filed a copyright for his work and therefore he still owns Ghost Rider. Courts said "sit down before you fall down" and in addition slapped the guy with a $17,000 fine for selling tee shirts and posters featuring Mike Ploog Ghost Rider art at conventions.
People are considering this a warning salvo at artists who do sketches of Marvel and DC owned characters at

Tolkien was, undeniably, a genius, but, for the love of creativity and dynamism; read another f**king book, people.
There's a world of culture, history and myth out there to seek inspiration from! Fantasy should be an exciting, twisted reflection of the world around us, not an endless stream of pirated Lord of the Rings DVDs.
Turtles Production Shut DownVICTORY!Turtles Production Shut Down3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Paramount has shut down pre-production on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot over "script problems".
Translation; Paramount realised that if they continued down the path Bay was going, fans would probably burn their studios to the ground.
With luck (and a dollop of common sense) the project will be shelved altogether and the IP left fallow until competent directors/producers are brought on board.
I'm going to pretend my little campaign helped with this
You're one ugly mother f**ker.Last time I was in Birmingham (England) I was surprised to see a Predator standing in the middle of New Street. It made a welcome change to the crap "living statue" guy. You're one ugly mother f**ker.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Made me smile.
And then I saw this……which didn't.
I can't articulate my sheer and utter loathing of people like that. They just make the world feel a little more bleak.

Google Maps had a Wikipedia layer that brought up links to Wikipedia articles connected to the region you were surveying. It was a brilliant way to learn about locations you have not yet visited, or to delve into an area's history.
A week or so ago, and apparently with no warning, Google removed this function and have now been flooded with complaints.
Is it just me or are big name companies growing increasingly incapable of doing ANYTHING right?

I mean; our crisis response committee is called COBRA, our military satellite network is called SKYNET and now the palace has been equipped with a great big f**k-off laser cannon.

RetardA couple of people (literally only two, but it's a matter worth mentioning) emailed me after they had read the most recent Sequential Art strip, in which the fictitious element “Retardium” is mentioned. Both messages voiced disapproval at my using the word “Retard” due to its slang referencing of the mentally disabled.Retard2 years ago in Personal More Like This
That interpretation of the word, in my eyes, is outdated.
Used in describing a mentally disabled individual, “retard” is a slur, and (as with any slur) anyone who says it in that context deserves a sharp blow to the head. However, used to describe a “wilfully ignorant, able-bodied idiot”, I think “retard” is perfectly acceptable. I’ll wager that everyone reading this knows someone that can accurately be described as a "f**king retard", none of whom are disabled in the slightest, nor in using the word is a mentally disabled person even thought of.
I’ve not heard “retard” used to des

Cyanide and Happiness ShowOur animated show has been waiting to be made a long time. After the 3 year bout with television networks, we've chosen to make content straight to you, the attractive viewer (that's you) (unless you're not reading this)Cyanide and Happiness Show3 years ago in Personal More Like This
This is a big god damn deal to us, and I hope you guys want to see the final product as badly as we want to make it. Seriously, we have years of animation we've been wanting to throw out for you to ocularly digest, and we would rather give straight to your face instead of going through TV where it will get COVERED in preservatives and insecticides.
My analogy has wandered from me, but please check out our kickstarter and what could potentially be the best thing ever to happen to mankind. Potentially.

Celebrating Diversity #24The idea behind the Celebrating Diversity Project is to share deviations out of our area of comfort and explore art we usually don't see.Celebrating Diversity #242 years ago in Art Features More Like This
This time I wanted to show you some examples of a gallery I know many people don't know about: Stereoscopy.
Stereoscopy is the art of creating images with the illusion of depth, but unlike 3 Dimensional Art, the images in this gallery can truly pop out of your screen, if viewed correctly. There are various techniques to create these images, and some of the most common are:
Cross eyed parallels
2 almost identical images placed side by side. There are a few differences between the 2 so when you cross your eyes, you'll get the 3D effect.

I miss the old symbols but...I've been a member of this community for more than 8 years, I'm certainly not the oldest member here, but I think we all can agree 8 internet years are like a short eternity, it's a lot of time and just to prove it, tell me; how many sites have you been a member of for at least 8 years? I can only name one, and that's deviantArt. Also, 8 years are the 61% of the 13 years this site as been alive, so I've been here for more than half of this site's life.I miss the old symbols but...2 years ago in Personal More Like This
As an old member of this site, I, like a lot of you, also miss the old symbols.
As stated on the official article, there are a few things that have been part of the site for a long time, without which deviantArt wouldn't feel like deviantArt, like the characteristic green layout or the user symbols that until recently, were part of the site.
I agree it does feel weird, the symbols I grew up with, so to speak, as an artist, are

Bell$ and Whi$tle$You remember when mobile phones used to just do one thing: be a phone? Then they could text. Then they could take photos. Then they could connect to the internet.Bell$ and Whi$tle$2 years ago in Personal More Like This
People pay hundreds for the latest iPhone, which does a ton of things on top of being a phone, and which is why I DON'T OWN ONE!
I carry a phone because I might need to make a call.
Don't think that I'm some sort of Luddite that takes offence at all the bells and whistles they bolt onto the little boxes. I'm not. I just have no use for them, and so, I don't want to pay for them.
I can go into my local phone emporium and pick up a device that is a phone and only a phone for £19.99 (or even less!). No camera, no internet access, just a crappy little green screen that displays a number.
It's a phone, nothing more.
Which brings me to the next generation of consoles.
As far back as I have desired them, they have cost around the £100 – £200 mark at launch, even when they started doing things they didn't need to, like play DVDs/Blue
