What we can do? Black March"Another protest is building steam. This time, its a boycott aimed directly at big media, called Black March. For the entire month of March, consumers are encouraged to not buy any media. Personally, I like the idea of this even better than the web blackout, as effective as it was. Sony, Disney, Fox, Paramount and the WB seem to think they are invulnerable because we, as consumers, have grown so dependent on them for our entertainment. Hopefully, a good participation level will show them exactly how wrong they are.

IF you guys are tired with all the story of SOPA and PIPA, Lamar Smith, creator of thise bills is at it AGAIN.
Now he has created the bill H.R. 1981 which has more potential to invave our pricacy and control the internet users than SOPA ever had!
His bill uses Child Pornography as a screen to monitor your credit card and bank activity on the internet. It requires that Internet Providers hold on to information about your browsing history for up to 18 months.
Altough he says our personal infortmation will be kept in a ''safe'' place, anyone knows this is the perfect excuse for hackers to steal our personal information. it is MCUH MORE dangerous than SOPA and PIPA.

Remember this: The Nazis started by burning books, ACTA/PIPA/SOPA started by burning websites. Megaupload was the first, it will not be the last. When the masses no logner have information, they will be easy prey for the politicians to mould and shape to their will.
Wikipedia has so much copyrighted but not authorized material that its, by my estimate, 15 million web pages will become victims of ACTA in short order if laws supporting the ACTA treaty, signed secretly on October 1, 2011, are passed. That is equal to the number of Holocaust deaths of all groups, not just Jews. It is a bastion of modern knowledge, and let's face it, knowledge is power, they take our knowledge away, they take our power away, where does our power go? To them, of course. On May 8th, 2012, North Carolina is opening a ballot to propose banning domestic partnerships between same-sex couples. The ballot will read, "Marriage between one man and one woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this state.". It will change the state's Constitution with the addition of this:
Sec. 6. Marriage.

What is considered copyright infringement?Due to the growing concern...I have had a lot of people ask me what is considered piracy and what isn't. Things to consider is the Millenium Copy Right act and fair use laws. Funny enough a while back I would have liked a law like SOPA because it would hold a site liable for letting its users plagiarize my artwork. E.g a while back a group on Facebook took my work and refused to credit me, I contacted Facebook and they said they would remove the work, then the admins of the page said they would change it to a private setting so I couldn't access the site and see if my work was still being used without my permission. SOPA would have been useful but now I see that with such power as to hold an entire site liable for a bunch of users actions is dangerous because it can be abused. Also how would you feel if someone like me closed down a huge public web site because a few where taking something of mine? I have learned not to care when my stuff is uploaded elsewhere and shared. (Please note, I'm not necessarily talking about deviantart's critique system, though this certainly applies to it. I'm talking about all feedback, whether in comments or notes, in person, or on another site. Deviantart simply has a good format for others to leave feedback to an artist.)
In art school, you tend two get two different types of young artists: people who are infatuated with their work, and people who have no confidence in it at all. But really, it all boils down to the same thing: as artists, we are incredibly reliant on other people's judgement of our work for our self-esteem. It sounds a bit stupid, but I don't know that I've talked to any serious business artists who say otherwise (though if you do, please tell me). Artists often view their work as an extension of themselves, or their soul, poured out on paper. We seek other people's approval, b

Rumors of da Vinci resorting to grave robbery persist to this day, but the truth is that he was allowed to dissect and study corpses at the Hospital of Santa Maria Nuova in Florence.
Leonardo da Vinci's studies of the human skull in 1489 borrowed three-dimensional drawing techniques from architecture that had never been seen applied to anatomical studies before. A new technical vocabulary for anatomical drawings was created and da Vinci's sketches in plan, section, elevation, and perspective marked a massive progression in how the body was documented.
Criticized for his undertaking, Leonardo passionately defended the purpos

@Homophobes, a Twitter account that retweets homophobes to expose their ignorance, published an article of 100 extremely homophobic tweets, which gained quite a bit of attention around the web.

Kony is a terrible criminal, and I am very much for bringing him to justice. However, I do not share the enthusiasm of the overwhelming majority about the movie and the proposals put forward by the makers. Here are ten criticisms I came up with, in no particular order.
1) If something is being hyped up all around you, this is a strong signal to think for yourself. Be especially suspicious when someone wants to use FORCE to do GOOD. Paradoxically, if you REALLY care - don't fall for appeal to emotion, as is being done here. Consider the implications and outcomes, rather than the motives. Don't let the public opinion shape yours, let the facts do so. Don't let one issue overshadow other issues which could be more important. Don't be afraid to disagree with the majority. Truth i

Did you know that, in Windows, holding Ctrl and moving the scroll wheel up or down changes font size? You do now, and it's not much harder to change zoom size on a Mac (I hear it is most likely cmd++ or cmd+- , cmd+0 reverts it to the original size). I know it's just as easy in Linux, anyway.
I already have my browser's text size display set to what I want, thank you very much.
Anyone who uses Word must be familiar with the concept of font size in points: 12pt Times New Roman, especially, when it comes to turning in essays for teachers. (And 13pt periods for those of you who couldn't hit that minimum page count )

Pay the PayPal FeesHave you seen someone take commissions with the following in their terms: you must pay the PayPal fee (calculate it at a site like http://www.ppcalc.com)?Pay the PayPal Fees2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Every time I run across someone with those terms, I tell them this is against PayPal's terms of service. Some respond 'oh, okay' and remove it, others argue with me and say it's not against their terms. One person has said they will refuse to work on the commission unless I do pay the fees.
I contacted PayPal directly regarding this to get final word on whether this is a violation or not.
Here is my question:
When I am shopping online, I often see people have a rule that if you pay with PayPal, you have to calculate the "paypal fee" and add that on top of the price of the product or service. Some people will refuse to ship or work if they do not receive the "full amount" (without the paypal fee added in).
Is it against the paypal terms of service for these people to do this? What should I tell them

This is a informative article, outside of the normal DLD activities, to bring awareness to a pair of bills currently under much discussion and debate. These bills are called called SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and PIP (Protect IP), presented to the House of Representatives and the senate (respectively) in the United States. Later in this article, we will also discuss how these bills have a world wide significance. At the end of the article are several links to the actual bill, news articles, and forum/journals related to this topic. Our aim here is to give to a brief overview, and to answer some questions concerning this debate.
SOPA itself is an attempt to stop online piracy both domestic and foreign by the United States Gov't. It employs a variety of tactics in order to achieve this, including scannin

If you have ever been bullied, please don't keep the hurt, the rage, the bad feeling inside of you. TALK TO SOMEBODY! Tell them what happened. Share how you feel, it will help you find a way, it will help you realize you're not alone. No matter how ashamed you are, no matter what you think that people may say about it.
I know from expirience that victims always feel like they are the guilty ones and they shut up about it. But just share it with somebody, even if it's a friend over the internet, even if its on your facebook wall. The more you keep it inside, the more it grows, so set it free. And keep going with life, no matter how hard it is. One step at a time.
"A teacher in New York was teaching her class about bullying and gave them the following exercise to perform. She had the children take out a piece of paper and told them to crumple it up, stomp on it and really mess it up, not

Whoops, sorry. I thought deviantART had a username-change system, but it doesn't. Looks like you'll have to start over and make a new account! Transfer your faves and the people you watch, because you need a good username if you want to be taken seriously here, and making a new account is the only option for now.
Make sure not to choose the name of an anime character and a bunch of random numbers as your username (naruto12345), choose one that's easy to remember and defines your person. Because seriously, who chooses a random word and random numbers as their username?
Step 2: Start making art

American Comics, Manga...AND WAR!This is a major turning point in the history of comics, World War II. This period of time not only changed comics as we knew them, but also other areas in graphics such as propaganda posters. Now mid to late 1930's we've seen the birth of the modern comic book. Due to the war as well we're also now seeing the birth of war comics. An obvious example of this as I'm sure many of you have already guessed is Captain America Comics in 1941 (before American involvement in the war). Captain America was created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby who worked for Timely Comics, which of course has now become Marvel Comics. He gained amazing popularity and is often fighting the Axis powers in World War II.American Comics, Manga...AND WAR!1 year ago in Art Features More Like This

The Problem With Character SheetsAlright, there are some pretty awesome character sheets out there. I don't personally use them, but I've seen others make them work. I'm not here to dispute the fact that they've got some utility, but I am here to point out one big problem with relying on a list of traits—which is generally how character sheets present these things—to define your character. The Problem With Character Sheets6 months ago in Literature Features More Like This
(Note: This also applies to Mary Sue tests. 'Not a Mary Sue' just means your character isn't a perfect storm of coincidence. It has nothing to do with likeability or even believability. <insert dictator here> isn't a Mary Sue, either.)
I think this approach is, if it's the only approach you take to figuring out a character, a really bad idea.
Take a moment to think about your best friend. What's their favorite food? What are they good at, and what are things they do that make you Google good places to dump a body?

The United States Congress is proposing two laws that address the problem of wide-scale unlicensed distribution on the Internet of motion pictures, songs, trademarked goods, and patented pharmaceuticals.
One of the proposals is called SOPA (Stop Online Piracy Act) and would direct search engines in the United States to block Internet sites outside the United States that are primarily engaged in distributing unlicensed content.Another proposal called PIPA (Protect IP Act) would block websites located in the United States as well. The Obama administration is putting a stop to these proposals. It wants the Internet companies and the content companies to get together and come up with more functional and less destructive solutions.
