What is art? There's a lot of deviations on the front page that I check out just so I can read the comments. What is art?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
A lot of users seem to think they can define what is art and what isn't, and this never fails to infuriate me.
Have these people ever been to any art galleries? A lot of popular modern art looks like it's been drawn by 5 year olds in 5 minutes, while classical art all looks exactly the same. Maybe they should go visit some museums and start shouting "not art, herp derp" until they get thrown out.
If stuff you don't like makes the front page, it means there's an audience for that sort of stuff, in which case you should be blaming DeviantArt's user base rather than insulting the artists. Funnily enough, unoriginal Pokemon and Pony crap doesn't get as much hate as a lot of nude stuff. I wonder why. (*coughpersonalinsecuritiescough*)
Wikipedia's definition of art is: "Art is the product or process of deliberately arranging items (often with symbolic significance) in a way that influences and aff

Not because of copyright. I understand that when you post something on the internet, you're posting it for everyone to look at, and it's going to get shared around. But the comped-up piece of shit you see above (minus my commentary) is all over the internet - it's far more widely distributed than my original version. Back when I used to read my messages here and on Fetlife, I had 12-20 messages per day about stuff like this. Mostly it was people trying to be helpful and telling me "HEY! Look over here, there's another person who smeared shit all over your art!" And it used to take me an hour every morning to cut and paste URLs into DMCA requests to get this kind of crap taken down.
But that's really only the tip of the emotional iceberg for me. About 1 in 10 times that I post a DMCA I'd get a message from the perso

How to make a viking dressI used to be a part of one history reenactment group some time ago. Such groups basically reconstruct elements of daily life of people from a selected time period; my group was interested in early Middle Ages, from the 8th to the 11th century, from the Eastern and Northern Europe. Personally, I used to reconstruct a viking woman from today's Sweden areas. Most of you will be shocked, but vikings were not half-naked barbarians with horned helmets. They had no horned helmets. Really. How to make a viking dress2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Anyway, my favourite part of reenactment has always been all the suit making. Buing materials, planning, cutting, sewing (hand sewing!), embroidering. Then, wearing. Generally, viking clothes are very easy to make, though I admit that the materials aren't the cheapest, if you want to make it as much accurate historically as you can.
Our goal: a simple dress, no emboirdery. This is actually my first viking dress I've ever made.
I've prepared a simple tut

Red Roses to your feet,
soft fragrance of incense floods your realm
while the candles flicker with the wind,
Ancient hymns are sung for you by unforgivable souls...
Lilith,forbidden Goddess of the Sheol,
your eternal walk is bounded to the night,
the stars wane their glow before you,
your beauty glistens bathed by the moonlight,
merciless dark angel with seductive smile,
your crimson kisses unleash bliss,
enrapturing men with the psalm of your hips
enshrouding them with your wicked desire,
plethoric ecstasy between your arms
surrendering their souls to you...
Hail to Lilith the Immortal Queen!
Proudly, Lilith's Realm has its 12th edition of The Highlights of the week, our aim is showcasing the 7 best works from our gallery this week, a difficult selection because of the great artists we have at home, congratulations to our Highl

Lilith- Ancient name...
Darkness caresses your eternal beauty,
the moonlight bathes you with its delicate light,
soft wind kisses your pale skin,
waking up your senses with the symphony of fallen angels,
while worshipping choirs are sung at your realm,
as the crave and lust enshroud you,
bringing you to life from your immortal dream.
Mother of the fallen,
Queen of the Sheol,
Lilith is ancient verb,
Dark Goddess of velvet voice,
unholy communion of primal delight,
desecrating the innocence,
forbidden word delivered in crimson kisses,
utter bliss captivating your soul under the night.

➽ In the world of Sacchalarine, Residents and Outsiders will be able to get jobs for pay. Residents will even be able to open up their own little businesses and apply at others.
➽ You cannot start off with a job ! You must apply to an existing small business. More and more come later.
➽ To start your own business, you will have to apply for it later. You must be an active member for at least a month to even be considered. Once you make your little business, you can have your own little employees.
➽ Housing is free, considering they live in trees which there are far too many of. Needs such as running soda (their 'water' since they can't actually have water), electricity and all are automatically provided. A little extra money is given, but it's not enough to really get much at all. Incomes are mostly to buy yourself expensive little things.
