Project Educate: Introduction to PapercuttingHello and welcome to the Papercutting 101.Project Educate: Introduction to Papercutting2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Please come with me and let me show you why paper is still one of the most versatile medium to work with even in this digital age.
1.What is it?
Papercutting is the art of cutting design out from paper. It is considered one of the oldest forms of art but it has developed independently all across the globe. People from all over the world have independently discovered how versatile and rewarding it is to work with paper and they have developed their own distinct styles.
The oldest surviving paper cut out is a symmetrical circle from the 6th Century found in China. The category “papercutting and scherenschnitte” was opened on dA in 2010. It is at once one of the oldest and newest forms of art around the block!
2.What kinds of papercutting are out there?
Around the globe there are a number of traditional type
How we've met Tom HiddlestonYesterday was incredible. Now it almost feels like it didn't happen to us at all. But let's start at the beginning. How we've met Tom Hiddleston3 years ago in Personal More Like This
On Tuesday evening a friend of ours found out that Tom's working on the new Jarmusch film around here and asked if we'd like to go look for him. Not quite believing we had an actual chance to meet him, we still agreed. I mean, nothing to lose and everything to gain, so why not?
Next day, on Wednesday, we had an adventurous trip to the studios, because naturally, public transport never works the way it should and when travelling to an unknown location you'll never arrive at your destination point straight away.
But after running around in the terribly hot weather of that day for around an hour, our trio was finally there!
We met a few other girls who waited in front of the studio complex gates, unsurprisingly, for the same reason and even encountered an old friend of ours we haven't seen for five years.
We weren't lucky on that day, though. After asking around for a bit, i

How to create your own SketchbookCommunity WeekHow to create your own Sketchbook11 months ago in Personal More Like This
A Sketchbook is a special notebook to draw in. Many current and previous artists uch as Leonardo Da Vinci, have their own Sketchbook as a diary to write down their thoughts, ideas and experiences, whatever comes to mind. Also they might use a sketchbook to note down instructions or important facts about art. However, this 'bought' sketchbook can be very expensive and sometimes difficult to get in stores.
There is however, an alternative to having your own sketchbook without buying it. This alternative is, of course, to create your own sketchbook to your style and your taste. This involves a little work but is great for being part of your artistic growth and development. Also you can save money because the materials are not as expensive as buying a ready made sketchbook in a store. You can spend even less if some of the materials could already be found in your home.
Are you ready to start ? Follow my instructions and you will have your own sketchbook. It's worth a t

White knightsI haven't spend much time on my computer last weekend, but enough to see that DeviantArt was kept busy by a troll that apparently did really well for as much as trolls can 'do well' on the internet. A little over 4000 pageviews in just 4 days the account is online proved not only the artists involved in the matter took offense... but apparently a lot of other DeviantArt members as well. Even those that seemed (to me at least) totally uninvolved with the troll or the particular type of art.White knights1 year ago in Deviant Events More Like This
For those that wonder about the issue; It's about Foxbun's rather cynical joke about the 'closed species' matter. (I'm usually against name calling here. But this account has intentionally created for its goal. It has been all over the site already and would've been in the comments within 10 minutes, even without me mentioning here. I don't provide a link, though. Use your search engine if you want to research it.)
The term white knight is to most older members of DeviantArt (or the interne

David Bowie was the living embodiment of this prevailing ‘60’s mantra. Never had such a waiflike cultural figure of a rebel so discombobulated and terrified the established social order. In a time of gender role experimentation and redefinition, he was the oddly attractive symbol of the

For the beginning an enigma image: let your imagination fly!
Fantasize a bit, what this new Dea Vivente is going to look like? Probably, she will stay like this, but maybe you will not recognize her when she is a heroine of new photographs.
Right now I'll show you the results of high firing the doll's parts put together. The new porcelain that the girls are cast from is beautiful flesh toned, shining a bit and even shimmering. I'm glad that Dea Vivente are going to become even better.
I like the look of fired porcelain this is yet the "blank canvas" meant for picturing a painting.
And now some words about painting.
In doll sphere, toning the parts of body is called "blushing", and this is

Many of you have been looking forward to the promised Dimension 258 writing contest, and it's finally here! the importance of failingsOften times i see many artists on all levels expressing their expectations from their current progress and seeing it as they fail. They feel this way because the type of level that is set is not only high but its constantly changing to grow higher even as they are progressing passed levels of artistic skills.the importance of failings3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Imagine a horse rider holding a fishing pole with sugar(your artistic level you want to reach) by the end of the string. And you the artist is the horse pursuing it.You are progressing forward but your goal is also being set higher as you progress.
And of course you will never ever reach the level that is constantly changing and i think this is an idea that every eager and striving artist should be comfortable with. To be comfortable with failing. This is not to say that you wont reach new levels , because you will. The levels you set up when you started out are much lower then the levels you set in your current phase.
The tough part is of course to stay on trac
10 Simple Tips for Getting Your Art Accepted QUICKIt's troublesome for all of us when we have to ask you questions and, require you to withdraw and resubmit your deviation for one reason or another. Well, this document is designed to help prevent that so we can all have a nicer day!10 Simple Tips for Getting Your Art Accepted QUICK3 years ago in Personal More Like This
1. All Members:
- When you upload your art to dA, select the proper category. ex. When a member submits a drawing to our Digital Art folder, but we see that it's in dA's Traditional Art category, we will ALWAYS question that.
2. Digital and Traditional Artists:
- List the media/tools/programs and reference image links you used to create your art in your description. This is a practice of Pros, and it helps us to ascertain that your art is submitted to the proper folder.
- If your art is a photograph, and you did any editing besides tweaking, or BW/Sepia conversion then we will probably consider it a photo-manipulation. This includes selective de-coloration. Submit it to our Digital Art folder.

The Fair StrangerWe flirt occasionally, you see. He only appears when I'm a train wreck, alone on my bed, in an emotional turmoil. The Fair Stranger2 years ago in Literature Features More Like This
When Life wounds me, he comes.
Gently stroking my messy hair, "Elope with me," says He.
Where to? I would ask.
He shakes his head, "I can't tell you." He smiles, "I promise all your worldly problems will cease to exist."
"Come with me." He rests his warm hand upon my throbbing heart. All agony fades to a tingling solace.
His words swayed me from time to time. I have pondered and fantasized about surrendering myself to his care. Let him take me away. But I have dreams and hopes I have yet to fulfill. I have people I love. They'll miss me terribly if I elope with this fair stranger.
I shake my head, removing his hand, "Not yet."
He nods and vanishes. My anguish resumes.
Did I mention, his name was Death?
We flirt from time to time.

The featured gallery is the first impression someone gets of your deviations. But did you know that your featured gallery does not have to include all your deviations?
You can choose upon submission and at a later point, whether or not a deviation should be visible in your featured gallery or not.
Additionally, you can re-arrange the deviations in the way you prefer. They are sorted after submission date by default, but you can arrange them however you want using the click and drag method. By arranging the content and order of it, you can choose what a visitor of your page sees first.
The rest of your gallery will of course stay accessible from the "All" button on the left side.
