Now that Galaxies is officially defunct, I thought it safe to post some of my favourite illustrations here for posterity sake..!

Working on this franchise for close to 2 years really helped me grow as a creative and allowed me to explore many aspects of the craft-- its not often you get to play the role of illustrator, story-teller and designer within a single commission. It was truly rewarding in hindsight and more often that not, a very humbling experience when you witness the sheer quality and passion of other fellow creatives working on the same project, really inspires you to stretch yourself beyond the usual bounds!

Hard to see where you're going in a firefight with those blinders for a visor... ;) Still love scout troopers all the same.

I always try to nab the trooper cards before anyone else. :) I recall being very taken by the bleached and cross-processed art direction of Black Hawk Down and had to do a few cards in a similar feel. What better than with one involving rappelling special forces stormies..

I was asked to edit out the body parts in the background.. ;) (Note the unofficial indirect-fire wrist rockets being deployed)

Snowtrooper Captain leading a charge. I was really inspired by alot of Japanese model kit box art when I did this, and I was hoping to bring some of that 'no-nonsense photojournalistic' look to this image. Like as though you were there in the trench next to them.

As always, my favourite characters to paint are the incidental ones in the background.. I always think they end up having the most natural poise and story. I also homaged a bit of Jin Roh in the way he held his MG34- i mean Blaster... by the bipod.

Also, now that I'm looking at it again after so long.. those explosions do seem a bit huge. Maybe the rebels are packing some serious heat. Whatever.

A team of Shadow Troopers tracking down Rebel scum. In the original square format image, the ground and foliage in front of the crouching trooper has been disturbed with what looks like a walker's footprint. Maybe some rebels stole an AT-ST.

Somehow I was trying to convey 'serenity' and 'stillness' when I was painting this. Like a calm dewy morning of sorts, the Shadow tracker team moving through the forest with an equal amount of stealth and grace.

Used a number of photos as a base for this one, namely random models of AT-AT/STs from hobbyist/stock sites. They are all heavily modified of course. I've also added some details that I often add to AT-ST's that I paint- commander's cupola with blaster mount, searchlights, shielded weapons, bolt-on skirting to protect the batteries at the rear.

For the art direction in this image, I was really inspired by the cinematography at the end of "The Mist". It feels somewhat majestic and dreamy, but also coupled with tension, knowing that horror and chaos is not far away.

I met an actual death trooper cosplayer at SDCC 2011 by chance when he stumbled (literally) past the IFS booth at artist alley, and I just had to give him a print of this piece. What was even cooler was that he returned to hand me some death trooper patches, challenge coins and similar DT paraphernalia~!!!

This is one of ten pieces I did for the new Star Wars Essential Guide to Warfare. I had a blast working on it and I'm excited that I am able to contribute to the Star Wars universe.

I will be posting them in the order of sequence as it appears in the book. Hope you guys enjoy them!

This is one of my favorite pieces from the Galactic Civil War era. This battle, which took place after the destruction of the first Death Star but before the events of Empire Strikes Back, was an elaborate ambush set by Vader and the Empire to destroy the Alliance leadership along with its fleet. Under overwhelming odds the Rebels would've fled to a designated location where they would regroup, but had they done that they would have found another Imperial fleet waiting for them. The fleet instead dispersed and made random jumps to avoid being completely annihilated. The Alliance almost lost the entire fleet from this battle but enough survived to carry on the fight and eventually make a comeback at the Battle of Endor.

This battle is recounted in the Star War comic "Rebellion: My Brother, My Enemy".
