1. Hello! For the beginning, could you tell us something about yourself?
Hi everybody! What to say... I am homebody that draws things for a hobby, and doesn't have nearly enough time to do so as much as she'd like. I am a student (though not for long) and like to let my mind wander with Tolkien (and others) when number crunching gets to be too much. I'm Catalan, female and study chemistry and engineering.

As the first one in this series, I talked to one of the most popular Tolkien artists on this site, :icongold-seven: - Gold-Seven. At the beginning, a little sample from her gallery:
And here are the questions already:
1. You are an outstanding artist and illustrator of Tolkien's stories. When did you read Tolkien's books for the first time, and what impression did they leave in you?
Thank you! My first encounter with Tolkien was in first grade, when my mother

Hello! My name is Šárka, pronnounced Sharkah. I’m a 20 years old student of biology at Charles university in Prague. I come from the south of Czech Republic (the country with beer) , from beautiful South Moravia (the region of wine). I have a tarantula called Ungoliant and I love everything related to J.R.R.Tolkien.

Norman Rockwell Tribute
Few artists have so definitively reflected the lives of average Americans as Norman Rockwell.
He began his lifetime dedication to being the “America’s Illustrator” as the 19-year-old art editor for Boys’ Life, the house publication of the Boy Scouts of America. A few years later he assumed his more famous position at The Saturday Evening Post, though he never b
A concise guide on how to get better at artSo youre a kid looking down at your anime or comic characters and wondering why after a few years of doodling things arent looking like how you imagine them in your head. Or maybe youre a college student whos wondering why the colours in your paintings arent coming out right. Maybe youre an older fellow or lady whos dabbling in art and youre having trouble with drawing hands. You want to get better at representational art.
Here on deviantart its often the case where a noobie will ask a question and another noobie will answer with the very uninspired answer of "practice practice practice." At its core this advice is sound, but the noobie-teacher has just regurgitated what he or she has heard a thousand times over from other would-be noobie-teachers and has not expressed much else. Diligence is the key, but without a direction or goal this diligence might be

Now I made Mirkwood elves! Legolas, Thranduil, Oropher!
Such a random title - it's been a while since my previous entry.
I'm alive - so far - and I'm pretty sure i'm gonna die by the end of this month because of midterms Oh kill joy.
Anyways, guess what, I made my very first plz accounts!
They're part of my icon family (http://kittykatkanie.deviantart.com/journal/Noldorin-Icon-Family-Updated-10-5-218743173), but since they're not really related by blood (well, maybe they are but Tolkien never really specified it) to the actual family, I made plz accounts for them

Few words about art-thieves.Hi!Few words about art-thieves.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
My dear watchers, I really appreciate your support when it comes to fight against art-thieves.
But I bet there are also many people whose thoughs can be interpretted like "why is she so hysterical about it?". Some people say, that the fact, that some photo is worth stealing, is a kind of compliment.
Ok, so let me present my point.
At first: why am I so unhappy about reposting of photos?
Because, pals, if somebody just reposts a photo without any change, it just gives totally open space to other people who would find the photos on his/her blog, taking it and posting it themselves. And because the first person did not credit the original author, they also do not credit the creator. The more people do that, the more times the photo is reposted. Always without credit. Sooner or later, it becomes a kind of "public" property and original author has almost no chance to effect this situation.
Do you know this photo? Honestly, EVERYBODY knows it. But do you know original author? Do you

So much to assumeThis is nothing new. I've been observing it for quite a long time in various places, including my personal surroundings. I work with traditional media and take care of traditional art category on dA. People, basing on these two facts, very often assume that I dislike digital art, fan art or manga, or treat them as inferior, or name it whatever else that way. I receive comments that place traditional art (as in, not only the dA category, but generally) above any other types of art, with the commenter usually expecting me to agree - but not because they treat their opinion as the "right" one, which is what you'd mostly expect, but because they think they are speaking about my opinion, somewhat more than theirs. So much to assume10 months ago in Art Features More Like This
And that is, my fellow deviants, something I extremely despise of. It's only yet to be decided if it's the "anything other than traditional is inferior" part or the "this surely must be my opinion" assumption that puts me off more.
Let's go back to that countdow

When did you start drawing with coloured pencils?
I actually can't remember a time when I wasn't drawing with coloured pencils. I have memories of being given a huge, mismatched carton of (probably) Crayolas when I was about ten. They were definitely not a set. Some of them were already worn to stubs and there were about ten identical pink pencils (unused - obviously the original owner wasn't a fan of pink). I used them to colour my Very Important Comic Strip of the day, which was created lovingly on ream after ream of old-fashioned computer paper and was mostly about what it would be like if wolves went into space.
What is your favourite brand?
Prismacolor by far (or Karismacolor as was in Europe). I bought my f

As I promised, here is a video I made with :iconUrbanMelon: that shows the colorization process I use for the characters painting.
I know it's a little quick, but maybe in the future I'll try to add more videos like that. They probably only will show some little elements painting like eyes, hands, etc... with a normal playing speed.

The deadline for submitting a deviation for this contest is February 17th. Contest entries should be shared in the replies of this blog entry.
The idea of this contest is to imagine your favorite canon characters, who either appear or don't appear in the movies, in a scene found in the book but not (yet) depicted in the movies.
Examples: What would the Hobbit movie actors look like with hair and costume as described in the first chapter of The Hobbit? Or, show the Lord of the Rings actors in the Barrow Downs, Old Forest, or meeting with Ghan-Buri-Ghan, etc. Did the movie skip one of yo
On Writing - DialogueAnother article for :iconthe-bards-college:On Writing - Dialogue2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Dialogue is one of the hardest parts of writing for new writers. You would think it should be one of the easiest since we talk all the time, but it is very easy to fall into a stilted, unrealistic, boring conversation when you first start.
1) Listen to real people talk
I found this tip time and time again when I was researching this tutorial. By listening to how people talk – absorbing their cadence, slang, phrasing, pauses and exclamations, we learn how we want our characters to speak.
As fanfic writers, we have an added bonus in that we can specifically listen to our character's ways of speech over and over by replaying their dialogue multiple times. I know when I started writing Cicero, I would obsessively look for clips of his dialogue to study the rise and fall of his voice as he talked and pick up phrases that he used.
Sometimes when I am stuck on how to write dialogue without sounding stilted, I will pick u

So some of you may have noticed that my webcomic series, Post-Mortem, is taking HELLA long to update. This was actually because commissions were taking up most of my free drawing time, but LET'S PRETEND THAT WASN'T THE CASE FOR A SECOND
So... what if something else had happened instead that prevented the comic from being updated? This is where you come in. Draw what you think could have happened that prevented the comic from being updated.
There could be all sorts of possibilities, from Thaxter and Grimm (the main characters) being kidnapped by the Russian mafia to medli20's arms falling off and taking ages to grow back. It's all up to you; get creative! :icont

SUMMER FEATURENext week's already started and I'm in feature mood even if it's only 3 days after I submited Thankful Feature. Hope you don't mind. (: It was hard to decide which theme I'll feature because themes: Summer, Black and White and IDs of dA members have same number of votes. However I think that summer is the most actual and other theme I can use every time when I want to but it's a little bit strange to show summer pieces when I see snow falling (sorry for my Australian and other friends who live in south hemisphere (: ).SUMMER FEATURE3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I can also call my journal Summer Memories because for some of you school year's already started or it is going to start after this weekend. I'm so happy that I can enjoy September without school as it's my favourite month of the year. But I wish all of students nice and happy start of school and be strong and always keep in mind that holiday'll be soon here again. (: I'm already loking forward to new school year, I miss my friends and maybe learning new things.
