You need to download some required libraries in order for Litestep to run on
Windows. The libraries are called "Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables"
otherwise known as vcredist.exe. What you will need are the 2005, 2005 SP1,
2008, 2008 SP1 to run properly (it is what the Litestep installer will be looking for)
If you currently develop with Microsoft Visual Studio (Express, Web Developer),
whichever version, your libraries should already be in place; though checking
for updates is a good idea. For good reason, I also recommend looking for
"Sec ATL" updates, they contain patches and fixes for possible security flaws within
Microsoft's code source.
I know it sounds funny, but you need to get the x86 (32-bit) and the x64 (64-bit)
installers for this reason: The Litestep program is by default, 32-bit architecture,
however the 64-bit update package (0.25 Alpha and greater) will be a patch after
you install Litestep. The 32-bit libra
Litestep on Windows 7UPDATE(9/11/2011): lsdev.org is currently down which is a major bummer because it is a huge resource for the litestep community. from what i've read some kind folks are trying to find a new home for lsdev but i'm not really in contact with anyone so i don't know anything for certain, just what i read online. if you happen to be a new litestep user you picked a somewhat bad time to get into it =/Litestep on Windows 75 years ago in Personal More Like This
UPDATE: this tutorial has gotten a lot of attention since i posted it 2 years ago.. so i decided to update the information, add information and even a nice video tutorial by andredk which is a little long, but very detailed. i updated the old journal and submitted a new one for good measure
installing litestep is not a big deal. it has dependencies like any other application, and without them it will error. assuming your system meets all the requirements right now you can stop reading this and install liteste
Taking GameStop Down a PegLast year Moviebob (aka: The Game Overthinker) made a video http://www.screwattack.com/shows/partners/game-overthinker/game-overthinker-episode-41-revolution in which he detailed the bad position the video game industry is in thanks to GameStop. Since the latest Mario, Zelda, and COD games have just hit shelves, I thought now would be a good time to try putting his suggestions into effect.Taking GameStop Down a Peg3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'm going to try and use my platform here on DA to reach out to my fellow gamers and recommend that, if possible, you don't buy your big ticket titles at GameStop for the next few months.
I'm not gonna give any lengthy reasons for doing so, all that can be found in the video link. I just personally have issues with GameStop (the company not the employees), and want to do my part to take them down a peg.
So if you can, don't go to GameStop to buy your big ticket titles unless there really are no other stores available to you. Go to Target, Walmart, Best Buy, or buy online. If you need to go to GameSto

The Fresh Epic's podcast is up now. You have two listening choices, a YouTube video or a MP3. You can find both at the following http://freshepics.com/podcast
This was our first podcast, so it's a little rough around the edges. We'll of course try to make it better with each new one. Thank you everyone for the questions, we had quite a number of unusual ones. This week's podcast features :iconTomPreston: , :iconHumon:, and :iconDetail:
If you'd like to suggest themes for us to discuss, or more questions for Fresh Epic artists, please write them here in this journal and we'll take note for the next podcast.
SYAC is on a bit of a hiatus while I try and figure out how best to proceed with the series. I've been conflicted with what to do with it for a long time now. I'm thinking about trying out user suggested strips, kinda like how I tried out user suggested questions.
If you have any suggestions on how I should proceed with SYAC, I'm all ears. I want to keep go
My Thoughts on Occupy Wall StreetFor the past couple of weeks I've been getting a few suggestions that I make some artwork in support of the "Occupy Wall Street movement. I've thus far refrained from doing so because I honestly don't know enough about the movement to definitively put my weight behind it. Unlike supporting the gay rights movement which have clearly defined goals they want to achieve, thus far the OWS doesn't seem to have any clear agenda. My Thoughts on Occupy Wall Street3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Personally I don't really understand what the OWS stands for other than being angry at excess spending, which I kinda thought was pretty universal to begin with. And while the OWS is becoming a huge thing and spreading all over the country like wildfire... since there's no clear protest, no leaders, not even any clear goals... I don't really understand what they hope to accomplish or how they expect anything to actually get done.
Don't get me wrong. I support the right to protest. Protesting is a peaceful way to demonstrate your beliefs and potentially effect change i

Site Update: December 1, 2011About a month ago we announced Sta.sh and Sta.sh Writer -- not as a hot topic, but we soft-launched to the hq membership and to the more savvy deviants who follow along when we release things.Site Update: December 1, 20113 years ago in Personal More Like This
Development of both products has never stopped and will continue in an ongoing manner moving forward.
Below, I've outlined a change log that tracks recent Sta.sh progress and also identified Known Issues that we're aware of and actively working on.
You now have the option to include/exclude your journal from the Journal Portal, and from your Journal Tab's new "Featured" section.
The Journal Portal in the footer of deviantART now pulls from the Journals category but excludes all "Personal" posts. This means, you must categorize your Journal on submission for it to even qualify to appear in the footer of dA. This has substantially increased the quality of posts that appear there.

stuff I'm doing right now... :Bjust thought I'd kept you updated on what's causing me to post less art nowadays. Not sure if anyone's been noticing that, though, but this month I've been focusing on a graphic novel I'm working on. It's a graphic novel that I can't tell you about or show you, because it's my entry to this huge comic-contest that's going on here in Norway now. I've got just a few days to finish the first five pages, and so far I've only finished the first page 80% and then some drawings that will be panels, etc.. I have sketches on all five pages, but I want them to look really good for this contest, so the whole process of "perfecting" the drawings is quite time consuming. But hopefully it will be worth it somewhat. I've also gotta write a synopsis/summary of the entire graphic novel. It doesn't have to be a long summary, which is what's gonna be a bit tough for me. I tend to get carried away when I write, and I'd love to write a long summary of my graphic novel, but shortening it to only five sentenstuff I'm doing right now... :B3 years ago in Personal More Like This

Well, a few days ago this guy was invited into a place where people have had bad lives and are trying to get back on their feet and we live in apartments where I've been set on moving out but anywho the story:
We have a nice guy living in a room that holds two people while I live in my own room, I pay rent for, it was my birthday so I was out and left my door unlocked since we worked together, well someone, who used to live on the street was invited to stay here and while I was gone he went through my laptop bag, looking for something he could sell where I couldn't get it back or recovered.
He didn't take my credit cards because he knew that I could turn those off, he didn't take the laptop which cost $1000 or my smart phone, instead he took my stun gun, where witnesses say they saw him trying to sell it for $5, a $60 dollar self defense weapon for $5! Now here's the kicker. Everyone in the house knew that I had anti theft on my machines, including my machines in storage. p
Do Not Preach "Tolerance" to MeRant ahead, my dears~Do Not Preach "Tolerance" to Me3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Firstly people like THIS and THIS that remind me why people suck. Not only do people suck, they suck the hairiest set of donkey BALLS you ever did see. The kind of balls that make you scream in fucking TERROR and hide under your blankets like a 5 year old who believes it they can't see IT, they can't see THEM.
Homophobia is honestly the most childish and stupid thing I have ever heard of and seen. Quite frankly, is pisses me right the fuck off. I mean, GAWD, who died and told them they could treat people the way they do? It sure as hell wasn't GOD.
And the moment you say something back about their hate, they immediately go "omg, you're just in denial" (denial of WHAT!?) or "what about love and tolerance?" (Um, we have it, but it's hard to tolerate the hate that spews from your mouth, dude).
I've heard so many different statements about how homosexuality is so damn hor
Internet BullyingFor many kids growing up in the 80's, if you were bullied in school you were able to "tough it out" because you knew your social interaction with said bully was isolated only to when you were in close proximity of them. When the bell range and you went home, you could dismiss the bully's taunting and physical abuse and be reminded of friends and family who supported you and kept your spirits up.Internet Bullying3 years ago in Personal More Like This
But in today's day and age of seemingly constant online connectivity, the "victims" of bullying have a harder time escaping. Once the bell rings, they're still potentially subject to be bullied via verbal assaults online, which often goes completely unnoticed by parents and friends. The worse part of this is that we're often told that because it happens "on the internet" there's no real consequences of trolling or bullying, which is far from true.
I've never accepted the excuse that just because "it happens on the internet" means it can't personally harm you in real life. Part of that is from m

You might have noticed that deviantART is wearing purple today, as October 20, 2010 marks Spirit Day -- an event to honor teens who have lost their lives to anti-LGBT bullying.
While this specific type of bullying has received a lot of media attention as of late, we'd like to bring to light how bullying is a wide-spread problem that impacts everyone -- regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, physical ability, ethnicity, race, or profession. And the recent surge of teen suicides associated with bullying can't be ignored or overlooked.
In honor of Spirit Day, deviantART CEO Angelo Sotira ($spyed) took a few minutes to address

The Capture vs. The Pose
portrait of a WW2 vet...
When a subject poses to have his or her photograph taken, the subject tries to project a message about himself or
herself by how he or she “poses”, by the attitude of his or her body language or facial expression.
If the subject is posed by the photographer, the body pulled and prodded into the desired angles,
the facial expression “directed”, it is the photographer who is intending to communicate a message.
In either case, posing or posed, there is undeniably something “false” in the representation.

Anybody see the latest My Little Pony episode? Holy hell... they actually had "derpy hooves" in the episode and Rainbowdash herself SAYS her name is "Derpy." Even if you don't like MLP:FiM, the fact that the creators of the series went so far as to take a fan created character (fan created in the sense that fans named a unintended background character mistake), use her fan given name (which happened to be meme-tastic) and not only acknowledge it but to actually PUT it into an episode like that... wow. I have a feeling this is kinda the next step of fanbase and media building. And it's awesome! So yeah... "Derpy Hooves" is 100% legit now.
Been watching a lot of minecraft tutorials on mechanisms and machines. Some of them are absolutely insane, and some of them are actually practical. I would very much like to build a "stronghold" in my world which is completely enemy defense proof. Automatic drawbrid
Why are most designers male?As a foreword I should note that the following is unresearched opinion. Why are most designers male?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Recently I've thought a bit about my particular industry (design, visual communication, branding, etc) and why it is the way it is. One of the aspects I've been hung-up on for a while has been the strangely overwhelming quantity of male designers vs female designers. Why are most of them male?
It's not a talent issue
My first thought was, are males simply more artistically inclined than females? Because design is so much about the visually communicative element, one might assume that if males tend to be more artistically inclined than females, then it would make sense that more males tend to naturally want to design things. But I don't think that's it at all. If you simply look at a statistic from deviantART itself, you'll find that we have an almost even split of males and females as active members.
It's not organizational
Much of design is actually just organizing information. Wh
