Art-jam: No juzgues el cómic por su portada2 years ago in Personal More Like This
A real storyOkay, so I tell you a story,A real story3 months ago in Personal More Like This
A real story. Listen closely to what I would like to whisper.
There was a little girl whose parents decided life would be better without each other.
She was 4 that time and didn't really understood that daddy was no more there.
That girl's mom was very young, about 24 and had troubles with finding a good job and give her daughter food everyday. They often was hungry but her mom didn't let the child find out how many problems they actually had those times.
They 2 often changed their places, moved in and out from grandparents to lodgings. There wasn't enough money for important stuff but after the mother got a little bit help from her granny, they could buy an own flat.
The little girl was exactly 6 years old and happy until men started appearing next to her mom.
Some moved in, some just came at night, some didn't even want to meet her and some hurt her in some ways.
There were good moments too but mostly bad ones.
The mother wanted ev

Japan Trip....more daysNote to self: Getting up early does not mix well with late night drinking. The good news is, I think I'm on track for setting a new personal record for consecutive days with a hang over wait is that good news? It's amazing to me that you can buy beer in vending machines everywhere here. Ugh it's 6:30AM, I'll pass on the beer .for now.Japan Trip....more days3 years ago in Personal More Like This
My legs are sore from walking about 2,000 miles yesterday and my feet already hurt. I love it.
This morning, after crashing a little after 2AM, we got up at 6:30AM to catch the bullet train to Osaka. The train stops several times, so it doesn't always get up to the incredible speeds other ones do. We'll be on one this Sunday that tops out at about 180MPH! It's hard to describe the funny experiences one has on the subways and trains. The crazy visuals of passing another train going the opposite direction when you are only a foot or so apart. Ah these Japanese are so precise. The trains displace so much air that when we
Free Artwork is not something I doAnd you shouldn't either.Free Artwork is not something I do1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I only direct your attention here because I receive a LOT of requests of for free artwork, whether it be logos, character design and sometimes even graphic novels all intended to be for free.
I'm a working professional making a living with my art. So clearly I won't be doing art for free, when it's my job to do it. BUT, I also support the idea that even artists who work freelance or even just as a hobby shouldn't work for free.
Please check out this video by Stephen Silver who explains this way better than I ever could
Why I love Tony StarkFor some reason I felt the reason to make one again. Why I love Tony Stark2 years ago in Personal More Like This
It's been a while but at least i have something I want to talk about
and that thing in none other the Tony Start, Or Iron man if you please.
I love him
Not only because he's handsome as I don't know what,
but because he's not perfect.
I have seen a lot of heroes who were made to be nothing but perfect, goody two shoes.
Of which I just want to throw something at.
But Tony Stark isn't perfect,
Through his cocky manner and sly comments,
he's broken, scared, and damaged.
He has daddy issues and is self destructive.
This is somethings that most of you already know.
So yeah I maybe just stating the obvious but I don't care and besides that's not the point.
My point is that Tony Stark is not perfect, he has no real super powers, he's full of flaws.
But he is a hero, he has only his inelegance to count on and with it he invented so many things including the iron man.
He's an icon, telling that even if you're not perfect, even if you have a h
Welcome Squid326 to DA!!!!! Bye bye PelicanhFirst and foremost, let me say the DA staff and admins have been outstanding. These are good hard working people. They are all truly dedicated to making this a place for artists of all levels and interests and I honestly don't know how they do it. The task they face daily must seem overwhelming at times and yet they just keep plowing forward to make it a better site for everyone.Welcome Squid326 to DA!!!!! Bye bye Pelicanh3 years ago in Personal More Like This
How they are able to deal with all the varied interests and agendas I see on here is beyond me.
I salute DA, the staff, and admins for a thankless job so very well done.
Tonight I am announcing "Pelicanh" will be gone or rather moving to a new DA page. My gallery will be taken down.
There are many reasons for this.
1) I now have 197 people I have had to block.
2) I can't even allow comments because I don't have time to weed out the flamers and trolls, block them, and hide their comments. To those who say,"Well, if you can't stand the heat, get out of the kitchen. If you can't stand criticism, then

Lulu, Kablam, etc...advice?So I bought a book off Lulu some time ago and I have to say, the quality was really really disappointing. Not so much the binding or materials, cause I can't really tell the difference there, but the color and general print quality was pretty poor. That was, like I say, a few years ago, and possibly they have stepped up their game since then.Lulu, Kablam, etc...advice?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
What is your guys' opinion on the highest quality online self-publisher? I know since there's no option of supervising the printing, it's not going to be perfect no matter what, but I figure I might as well get y'all's opinions in case I'm overlooking a really good printer? Let me know, even if it's just to say "you're whack, Lulu's the best!"
What's that brush ?A lot of people ask about what kind of brush we use to get that pastely, textured, gouache- like quality for quite some time. Since it is kind of a hassle to create a tutorial for this, (we have to use MS paint to make/edit something like this, no lie), we could explain in more simpler terms. Follow the instructions carefully! What's that brush ?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
We primarily use Photoshop CS3 for this, but it probably doesn't matter what version of Photoshop you use, I believe.
Go under the brush menu (the one that looks like a filing folder), and click Dry Media Brushes to use as your main brush, otherwise known as the Brush Tip Shape .
Click on Number 63 or 36 brush for the Brush Tip Shape.
Now, go under the Dual Brush setting, and choose Number 49 brush .
Go under the Spacing setting under the Dual Brush, and adjust the spacing a tad bit so you can get some of that fuzzy/ grainy texture.
Finally, go to the other Dynamics setting, and put

Photoshop Tutorial- deleting colored sketch linesI'm no master at Photoshop, to be sure, but there are simple things I can do and I do them nearly everyday. My average process for a finished drawing is to sketch it traditionally (even though I have a Cintiq, I like drawing traditionally) and then either ink (traditionally, again) or scan the tight sketch into Photoshop and play with the levels to make it look good. If you are still scanning stuff and uploading/working from the raw scan, then you are missing out on really making your scans look nice by using Photoshop to clean them up. Over on my Patreon page, a few of my Patrons had requested to see my process of taking one of my original OUTNUMBERED comic strips and getting the raw scan to look ready to color. Its a simple process that I over explain in this new tutorial! Check it out here:Photoshop Tutorial- deleting colored sketch lines11 months ago in Personal More Like This

El No Art Jam de marzo y noticias generales2 years ago in Personal More Like This

Art-jam de Subcultura: No es un color creativo7 months ago in Personal More Like This

My girlfriend and I traveled today to Atsugi, about an hour train ride from Tokyo. We had some business to take care of there. It was a bit frustrating because we couldn't get everything done we needed to, but the traveling to and from was delightful.
I was amazed, looking out the train window, there was not ONE piece of litter. I think we traveled 20 miles or more before I saw so much as a tissue paper beside the tracks. The Japanese, even in the less affluent areas, are incredibly tidy.
During the morning commute, the subway trains are packed so full there are literally uniformed individuals called "pushers" whose job it is to shove people into the cars as tightly as possible. As the doors slide shut they get very aggressive and carry out their job of sardine commuter packing very seriously and they do it with smiles and white gloves and a charm that everyo

I will keep an account here on DA and pop in occasionally to see what's going on but for the most part, I am moving on. It had become increasingly obvious to me that this is not the site I should be on. I have been looking at the front page of DA for 5 years now and wondering why I am here.

How do I find MY STYLE?I've gotten that question a bunch of times. Here's some thoughts on it:How do I find MY STYLE?3 years ago in Personal More Like This
As far as "Style" questions go, I dodge those like crazy. Honestly, I don't feel I have much of a style. I never have. I have an "adaptable" ability to draw like Disney, Nick, etc. Whatever I need to draw like for a given job. Within reason. Some cruder styles (like, say, a Mike Judge style) would be harder for me because its hard to break drawing rules you've been taught for so many years. Yes, I'd say some of my "Bancroft girls" have my style but its also kind of a Disney style. In my opinion there are two kinds of "style" artists: the ones that have a SUPER destinct style (like "Cheeks" or Jack Kirby) that have been drawing that way since the beginning and can't draw any other way, and the rest of us- whose style will evolve through the years based on work experiences and artistic influences. The latter won't have extremely strong styles but will be more adaptable to other styles. We tend to follow up

I recommend going trough the comments!
the draw this again meme is a great way to test yourself, your skills, your improvements and show these to others and hopefully gaining constructive feedback as well.
But what are the reasons for you to draw art in general? Are you doing it for a living, because its your profession, because its just fun for you or you just love to create art?
Let us know!
Greets everyone, i hope you have a nicer summer as we here in Germany. So far its more raining than in the whole winter, or at least it feels like it. Degrees are mostly below 20 degrees celsius too =/
