Copyright AbuseOk, the cold hard truth here, If you put something on the internet out to the public, expect it to the inspire others. It just shows they enjoy your work and want to learn from it, that's what being a Idol is about.Copyright Abuse2 years ago in Personal More Like This
"In a recent decision of the Full Federal Court, the Court reaffirmed the fundamental legal principle that copyright does not protect ideas and concepts but only the particular form in which they are expressed. The effect of this principle is that you cannot copyright a style or technique. Copyright only protects you from someone else reproducing one of your actual artworks – not from someone else coming up with their own work in the same style."
You can become known for doing something a certain way but you can't own it, you can only own the work as a whole. The same go's for characters, if its just similar not the same copyrights don't apply, even more so if its a generic design to began with.
So people stop bother the DA staff with this nonsen

Shaving Faux fur:
For Faux fur plushie makers, You should invest in a WAHl Kennel Pro, I bought two Andis clippers, both gave out after trimming faux fur for a few min. Also Make sure to keep your Clippers oiled and cleaned after using.
I recommend trim the Faux fur first before cutting out the pattern, so if you do cut too deep you can always make a new piece to replace it before sewing your plush together. Make sure to trim with the fur pile not against it, or you will just cut all the fur off, you want to trim it not make it bald.
Keep in mind being a plush artist gets very pricey, with Faux fur some fur colors are rare and you will some
Rivals and IdolsRivals and Idols2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I personally feel that you should see people you admire/idols as a level you should strive to achieve or surpass, not think of them as gods you can never hope of ever being like.
That will only make you depressed and not strive to be great, we all have Potential as long as we have a passion for what we do.
I suggest taking a look at a person you admire the work of, an setting your self a goal to achieve that level! Make them a Rival in your mind, think of them as a person that started out just like you, but are a wee bit ahead of the game, you may have a little farther to travel on your journey of becoming better or surpassing them.
But never give up keep up that burning passion.
Copyright Abuse part 2Yes, style is an important part of being a Professional artist, But if you look around here on DA this isn't a very professional place.Copyright Abuse part 22 years ago in Personal More Like This
Style comes from being inspired by others, sure some comes from nature and things around us but allot comes from things we enjoy in others work.
Sometimes peoples styles will end up looking similar or the same, based on what they enjoy, dose that make them a bad artist? No! they are still doing their own thing. Besides style never stays 100% the same, its always growing and changing.
If someone is interested in trying your "style", its because they like your work, copying a style is how we developed our own over time.
DA is mostly filled with Hobbies, kids, and freelancers. These people don't really have to worry about having a original style, because they are not pros and allot of commissioners like generic anyway.

Line art, tracing and referencingI have been getting a few people asking to make Line-art out of my work or you know a trace of some artist piece so everyone can have a recolor of it.Line art, tracing and referencing2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Some ask, some just go ahead and do it, I'm NOT OK with you tracing someones work line for line and posting as your own for others to recolor, its a little insulting to the artist even more so if it was a commission.
Using someones else art to make bases or adoptables, is wrong and ruins the artist's original vision. There are 100's of free bases out there and cheap ones, you shouldn't be tracing work without permission for adoptable and bases.
Its ok to trace someones art for learning purposes, but it should never be posted! its even ok to highly reference peoples work for learning purposes, but don't post it! or at lest ask the artist for permission first before doing so.
I made a chart below to show the differences, hope that clears up some confusion.
