Social AnxietySocial Anxiety11 months ago in Concrete Poetry More Like This
Eyes downcast, staring at my phone.
No, don’t make eye contact. Just leave me alone.
I crave for bravery and to not be afraid
To raise my hand in class with a unique idea and come off unscathed
To talk loud enough for people to hear instead of mumbling under my breath
To not need a shot or a beer to have a normal conversation at best
I wish I wasn’t afraid of people or the pain they inflict
And to be blessed enough to see the goodness that exists
A new chapter of my story unfolds, yet the old one haunts me
The creeping anxiety that nobody wants me.
To get up and talk at a party and make a new friend
Instead of sitting on the couch waiting for it to end.
To have the energy and desire to live life while young
And not have friends who ruin your fun.
What is life without people? What is life without friends?
When is it time for my heart to makes amends
With the past so that I may enjoy the present
And anticipate the future without fear of relent
It’s as simple as doing it
Dear DA, Is Our Art Not Beautiful?Dear DA,Dear DA, Is Our Art Not Beautiful?11 months ago in Letters More Like This
Is our work not beautiful? Left and right I see artists who slave over a camera, sketchbook, and keyboard endlessly in order to share the beauty of their creations and express themselves in the best way they know how. DeviantArt is a place for artists to find sanctuary and companionship with fellow artists, and yet we somehow become victimized. Some of the work focuses on the human body in its most natural state, our blank flesh canvas used to portray, inspire, and create. Like good little deviants many of us put warning on our works so that those who chose so may look away without incident, yet even then that’s not enough.
It’s truly amazing, it is, the hypocrisy that lies on this site. You say our work is inappropriate, yet your homepage is filled with pornographic pictures and sleaze. While, yes, there are quite a few that fall under the category of “artistic nude” many fail to meet the criteria that merges skin with art and are only used to objectif

"But Bear," Whispered a shaking Pip, "Those are bad words."
"Yeah bear," Muttered a trembling Pop," You could get cancelled for that."
"And you don't think that's the point?" Screeched Bear, as he shoved the two otters into the mailbox.
"Now, where was I? Oh, I remember. You kids stink, didn't I tell you to stay away from me?"
Bear walked into the kitchen and ripped the fridge door off its hinges. "What the **** Where are all my b

Robert Terwilliger, otherwise known as Sideshow Bob had a frown on his face as he looked up at the banner on the outside of a building that said "Springfield Gamers, Video Game Convention" on it. He sighed as he looked down. "Why did I let myself get talked into this?" he asked in a thinking out-loud way.
"Because if you said no, your only son would throw a fit." came the voice of his younger brother Cecil who was standing beside him. The two had been dragged here by their sons Gino and William who as it turned out were really into video games which the two boys played quite a lot much to their fathers dismay.
"I am never going to understand these things or our sons weird obsession with them, for that matter." Bob stated to his brother as he crossed his arms. "I doubt any parent really does." Cecil added before he started to head inside the building, with Bob following him in.
Inside there was many tables set up and areas with stands that had people on them, talking. "Egad, how do they

We are soldiers and we have orders.
General Secura has led us valiantly from the start of this conflict.
Through dark mountains to fluorescent marshes, from Acklay to battle droids;
She has saved my life countless times and I hers.
Pacification is our mission and our mission is on Felucia.
My hologram projector pinged --
“Execute order 66” it said.
My training is clear,
I am a soldier and I have my orders.
On patrol we scouted ahead of the column.
She approached the crest of the hill,
the planet seemed to go silent..
No ambient plants, no animals, no droids.
Thankfully we had on our helmets that day.
None of us could stand to look her in the eye; until she began to turn.
My rifle already fixed upon her back; my eyes met her glance,
Before her instinct could react we pulled our triggers.
We kept firing..
we kept firing hoping to quicken her end.
It was quicker than the inquisition that would soon come;
quicker than a life lived in a c

Over many a quaint and curious volume of forgotten lore --
While I nodded, nearly napping, suddenly there came a tapping,
As of some one gently rapping, rapping at my chamber door --
"'Tis some visiter," I muttered, "tapping at my chamber door --
Only this and nothing more."
Ah, distinctly I remember it was in the bleak December;
And each separate dying ember wrought its ghost upon the floor.
Eagerly I wished the morrow; -- vainly I had sought to borrow
From my books surcease of sorrow -- sorrow for the lost Lenore --
For the rare and radiant maiden whom the angels name Lenore --
Nameless here for evermore.
And the silken, sad, uncertain rustling of each purple curtain

Sometime after theyd gotten home from welcoming Bluestreak to the world, Ratchet and Ironhide went about their usual schedule of getting the twins refueled and ready for recharge. Once that was done, the two of them retired to the main room of their living unit, where they sat down to relax. Itd been a long solar-cycle and it did Ratchet a world of good to just sit back with Ironhide.
Ironhide had switched on the vid-screen to a low volume. Neither he nor Ratchet paid much attention to the report feeds that were played at the end of the solar-cycle, but the sounds made for good background noise while they relaxed. Ratchet was curled up against his mate as they sat, a cube of mid-grade cupped in his red hands. Ironhides arm was wrapped warmly around the medics shoulders with a cube of his own energon in his other hand.
It was a quiet evening, well-deserved. The two adult mechs finished their energon cubes slowly, content with spending time with

"Don't be like that, Mio," replied Yui. "It's just for fun."
"You want to be mummified! Why would that be fun?" asked Mio. "Where did you even get that idea?"
"History class," explained Yui. "The teacher was talking all about mummies and their wrappings and I thought it would look cozy, like being wrapped in a sleeping bag. So I thought you girls could try that on me. I'd rather do that with my best friends than with someone else."
"I'm for it!" cheered Ritsu. "Could be amusing to see."

Medieval MisconceptionsHeavy, cumbersome swordsMedieval Misconceptions8 years ago in Academic Essays More Like This
- The issue of weight seems to be one of the most commonly mistaken aspects of medieval combat. Smiths all made swords slightly differently and each fighter had his own preferences. It is impossible to generalize when it comes to the technology of an entire continent from c/ 500-1500 AD, and both very heavy and very light swords existed. In terms of what was typical, though,, here’s a rough guide to averaged:
Single-handed sword (aka sword) - 2.5 pounds
Hand-and-a-half (aka bastard sword) 2.5-3 lbs
Two-hander (aka longsword) - 3 to 3.5 pounds.
The absolute largest swords still rarely hit the 5-pound mark. These were designed to serve very specific tactical functions on the battlefield and were not intended for general-use purposes. Experience showed smiths and warriors that this was the ideal weight range for their weapon. It’s essentially natural selection at work: people whose swords were too light or too heavy went off to battle and

Hello and welcome back to How to Fanfiction, a guide that cannot be used to change a car tire. Today, we're going to cover characters.
Your challenge for today is to write a coherent story starring all of these characters.
Characters can make or break a story. Good characters - the Sherlock Holmeses, the Luke Skywalkers and the Indiana Joneses - stick in the public consciousness. Meanwhile, the likes of Scrappy-Doo and Jar-Jar Binks have been deservingly consigned to the scrapheap of mockery and ridicule, right next to Coca Cola with Lemon.
A good balance of characters is key to a good story. This is why most stories do not have thirty-six main characters. You'll generally want to aim for between one and seven protagonists, and maybe between one and three major villains. There are always exceptions to this rule, however - don't be afraid to experiment. You could probably write a story with no

"Are these the twins then?" the technician asked as Ratchet and Perceptor approached with the twins in their arms.
Sideswipe, from his position in Perceptor's arms, took one glance at the large purple mech that had spoken and hid his face in Perceptor's shoulder with a soft whimper. While he knew by this point in his life that there were all sorts of mechs, he'd never seen a mech quite like the technician. The purple mech was tall and bulky with a hexagonal head and a single, round yellow optic in the middle of an otherwise featureless face. He only had one hand; the other looked like a nozzle, but Sideswipe wasn't quite sure what it was.
Perceptor gave a nod in response to the technician's question. "Yes, this is Sideswipe," he said, hoisting the little red sparkling up. "Ratchet has Sunstreaker."
Shockwave stepped over to Ratchet. He raised his hand to lift Sunstreaker's chin with one finger so he could look at the sparkling. Sunstreaker promptly did what any spa

The watch-center began seeing more and more of Sunstreaker and Sideswipe as Ratchet returned to the medical field. Prowl and Jazz were concerned with preparing their living unit for their own sparkling and creating a frame for the developing spark, so Ratchet and Ironhide felt it rude to ask the pair of black and white mechs to watch the twins while they were at work. The arrangements were made with the caretaker at the watch-center so that the twins could be brought in frequently. And so it was thus that life for the newly-formed family went on.
A deca-cycle passed and the younglings at the watch-center became used to Sunstreaker and Sideswipe coming in. Firestar and Inferno were quick to become regular playmates with Sideswipe and it wasnt uncommon to see the three of them playing together. Sunstreaker, on the other hand, didnt seem to be as interested in playing with the other younglings. More often than not, the caretaker, a green femme named Vesta,

One thing that Ironhide had discovered in the time since Ratchet had first brought them home was that the twins loved bath time. While Sunstreaker was content to splash around where Ironhide had set him, Sideswipe was a little more energetic when it came to the bath. In fact, at the sight of the water, the red sparkling made a squeal of delight and had to be rescued from diving head first into the bath tub. Thankfully, bathing the twins was a two-mech job and Ratchet managed to keep Sideswipe from drowning himself in the tub.
Crazy little glitch, Ratchet murmured. He held onto Sideswipe with one arm and used the other to wash the bouncing sparkling.
Ironhide laughed as he carefully scrubbed at Sunstreakers small frame with a cleaning pad. Hes just a bit excited, is all.
Sunstreaker made a gargling sound as he splashed at the water with a toy in one hand, making Ironhide smile affectionately at the sparkling. He set the cleaning pad
