How (And Where) To Report DeviationsThe Galleries here at deviantART.com receive, on average, around a hundred thousand submissions every day- any way you look at it that is a lot of creative works coming in every minute of every day. Among this outpouring of creativity which we call Deviations there are, inevitably, works which could be potential problems and when members of the community find deviations which could be troublesome for one reason or another it is only natural to want to bring them to the attention of the staff here at deviantART.How (And Where) To Report Deviations3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Because of the various ways that a deviation might be a problem we'll focus on only one specific issue in this blog, that issue being the subject of copyright infringement.
Now we've already tried to explain the ins and outs of copyright in our copyright policy so if you haven't read that particular page yet I'd encourage you to do so now (you agree to obey the rules and restrictions laid out there every time you submit

If I could DD - featureMy small contribution for the community project "If I could DD". I'm taking the opportunity to collect some nice features without the stress that comes with the CV position. If I could DD - feature9 months ago in Personal More Like This
My category of choice is (unsurprisingly) Photo-Manipulation (although I was considering Space Art and Scifi for a moment).
Since I am not a real CV I took the liberty to ignore the lack of stock credits or description in some of the deviations, and some others already have a lot of favorits, but so what. Other than that they should all be eligible (I think). Enjoy the features!

Not because of copyright. I understand that when you post something on the internet, you're posting it for everyone to look at, and it's going to get shared around. But the comped-up piece of shit you see above (minus my commentary) is all over the internet - it's far more widely distributed than my original version. Back when I used to read my messages here and on Fetlife, I had 12-20 messages per day about stuff like this. Mostly it was people trying to be helpful and telling me "HEY! Look over here, there's another person who smeared shit all over your art!" And it used to take me an hour every morning to cut and paste URLs into DMCA requests to get this kind of crap taken down.
But that's really only the tip of the emotional iceberg for me. About 1 in 10 times that I post a DMCA I'd get a message from the perso

I've been playing Alien: Isolation for the last few weeks and it is scary as hell.
Alien Isolation Q&A with bradwright
Brad Wright, longtime deviant in the dA community, steps into the shoes (space boots) of Giger and Moebius as a concept designer for the Alien Isolation videogame. The game reportedly marks a return to the terror of the original “Alien” film in which scaring the audience to death was the goal, rather than the uncorking escalating levels of defensive firepower that defined the sequels.
Crossing the LineAlmost 99.9999% of the comments I get on DA are very nice and complimentary. For this I am grateful and appreciative. I also appreciate the occasional criticism that suggests I try a different crop, color, or lens choice. Even after 35 years I feel it is vital to listen to all the input I get because there are occasional jewels of ideas that come from learned professionals and beginning amateurs alike. Sometimes I even like it more when someone who is new to photography makes suggestions because they aren't stifled by the "rules" we all learn when we start out.Crossing the Line3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Recently, I've had a few people say some interesting and absurd things. These comments are related to my having taken down my gallery of nudes. First of all, let me say, my motive for this action was simply time management. I run a business so I don't have time to respond to all the comments or even read them all.
The suggestion has been made that by me removing the nudes, by responding to horrid comments then hiding and blockin

Sartorial Storytelling: Character at a Glance
Pulp Fiction by Rembrush
Masterful storytelling is about suspending disbelief.
One would think the most important element of a story being told is the events being depicted. Belief in these events, however, is a prerequisite to appreciation. Picture this: watching Anna Karenina in the theater, you’re riveted to the epic tale of doomed lovers. Your friend, a history professor with a fetish for details, laughs at random moments. After the movie, he pontificates at length on how unbelievable the movie was

In 2060, who ARE we?!As of tomorrow I'll have spent 53 years walking the Earth. OK… maybe make that 52.3 years walking, and 0.7 years crawling… Looking back over that time now I see a number of dramatic changes in how us humans live our day-to-day lives. For example, when I was born:In 2060, who ARE we?!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
- Smoking was everywhere, from airplane interiors to hospitals to the neighborhood breakfast bar. And its negative health effects were not widely acknowledged.
- The typical family had a working father and stay-at-home mother. Society and economics was geared to support that lifestyle.
- Gays were well-closeted and few dared to peek out. Those who did were often openly shunned.
- Conditions like ADD/ADHD and Aspergers and many others were undiagnosed and even bipolar disorder seemed less that understood by most.
- Most houses had a single telephone (though some people illegally added another independently purchased phone off their single land line).
- Most homes had a single TV – B&W and not usually larger than 20". You ha
Tutorial: Custom Raised-Relief GlobeIf you are a worldbuilder or mapmaker working at a global scale, it can be helpful to have an actual globe to guide you. If your world is an alternate Earth, then you are in luck. You can go to Amazon or troll the thrift stores and garage sales for a cheap globe of the Earth. All done.Tutorial: Custom Raised-Relief Globe3 months ago in Personal More Like This
For the rest of us, the globe we need cannot be found in any thrift store. So we make our own.
The above is an 8 inch desktop decorative globe I bought at a furniture store. Globes run for about $15-$30 at stores, or cheaper if you can find them used. What you want is a sturdily built globe with no raised relief.
Accuracy is not important. Any out-of-date borders and countries will be slathered over with a couple coats of gesso. Gesso is a type of acrylic paint that creates a toothed surface that can be painted on. You can buy it at any art store in bulk for pretty cheap. It's a good thing to have around.
Alice the Hypnotist (a semi-erotic hypnosis tale)Around the age of thirteen Alice took an interest in hypnosis. She had no idea why, but there was something about having total control over someone that she just found fascinating -- almost arousing. She would sometimes get home and do nothing but watch videos of people hypnotizing others, and thinking of herself being in the place of the hypnotist made her smile.Alice the Hypnotist (a semi-erotic hypnosis tale)3 years ago in Personal More Like This
When she turned fourteen she began to hit puberty. She was a bit of a late bloomer, but it must have been worth the wait, because her butt grew out to be firm and round, and her breasts, which she hardly had beforehand, turned into big plump melons, which she proudly made bigger with the occasional pushup bras. While going through puberty she also began to realize that her thing with hypnosis wasn't just an interest-- it was a fetish. An obsession, without a doubt, that turned her on whenever she thought about it.
At fifteen she bought herself a beautiful golden necklace with a spiral hanging at the end, which rested every da

- You can use whatever medium you want. Draw them, make 3D models of them in XNA/XPS or write a character breakdown in dossier format.

Marina awakened by degrees. She wasn’t aware of her first conscious thought, for a host of strange sensations vied for her attention: a wonderful feeling of weightlessness, of a warmth that surrounded every inch of her body, and the quite unwelcome feeling of a stuffy nose. She decided to focus on the warmth. She lay on her side, warm and peaceful, luxuriating in the perfect feeling. She opened her eyes finally, feeling somewhat groggy, as though she’d been asleep for a week. Fish swam lazily in front of her, doing that interminable back and forth that fish do in an aquarium.
Pretty, she thought dazedly, lost in their relaxing beauty: there was an orange and white one, that she vaguely remembered was called a clownfish; a s
Photomanipulation walkthroughStep 1: Idea (message, composition)Photomanipulation walkthrough3 years ago in Personal More Like This
You decided that you want to make a photomanipulation. But what to make? There are so many photomanipulations already out there and mostly with the same theme. So you decide you don't just want to stick a pretty girl onto a beautiful background. No you want to be original and have your manipulation portray a message everyone can relate to.
Think of things that are important to you, that lay close to your heart. They can be emotions (love, hate, sadness, anger) or experiences, hobbies (art, sports etc), things you are struggling with. Or they can be global themes like (beauty, money, economy, eating disorders, war, relationships etc.)
Of course if you choose to portray something as love there are many ways to do so. Do you want it to be a surreal depiction of love, or dark, fantasy, sci-fi, conceptual, humourous... your choice will of course decide the whole 'feel' of the image.
So choose wisely as they say.
Now that you have your theme you nee

Just wanted to recommend Bioshock Infinite to everyone!
Finished it yesterday and it's now one of my favorite games ever. I loved the first one but this one is one step above.
The Art Direction is insanely good. Every single location in this game is beautiful and you can see it's made with a lot of love and hard work. If you want some inspiration, look no further.
Also, I think that narratives in video-games are generally weak, but this one is absolutely awesome, GREAT GREAT sci-fi story.

I have recently come across a most disturbing phenomenon in my studies of the Diabolic Infestation of the Soul. It seems there is a most frightening psychological conundrum when considering the concept of demonic possession even the most remote possibility of reality upon our earthly plane is the notion that just believing it may be true could very likely be the spark needed for the Demon to discover, seek out, and ultimately inhabit its next vessel of evil: You.
