How to become popular on deviantART(The following "guide" is based on my own experience, but it's not meant to be taken seriously)
Alright everyone! You wanna know how to become popular on deviantART? Then follow these easy steps and you'll reach popularity in no time!
Change your usernameMake a new account
Whoops, sorry. I thought deviantART had a username-change system, but it doesn't. Looks like you'll have to start over and make a new account! Transfer your faves and the people you watch, because you need a good username if you want to be taken seriously here, and making a new account is the only option for now.
Make sure not to choose the name of an anime character and a bunch of random numbers as your username (naruto12345), choose one that's easy to remember and defines your person. Because seriously, who chooses a random word and random numbers as their username?
Step 2: Start making art
The site is called deviantART
Pay the PayPal FeesHave you seen someone take commissions with the following in their terms: you must pay the PayPal fee (calculate it at a site like http://www.ppcalc.com)?Pay the PayPal Fees2 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Every time I run across someone with those terms, I tell them this is against PayPal's terms of service. Some respond 'oh, okay' and remove it, others argue with me and say it's not against their terms. One person has said they will refuse to work on the commission unless I do pay the fees.
I contacted PayPal directly regarding this to get final word on whether this is a violation or not.
Here is my question:
When I am shopping online, I often see people have a rule that if you pay with PayPal, you have to calculate the "paypal fee" and add that on top of the price of the product or service. Some people will refuse to ship or work if they do not receive the "full amount" (without the paypal fee added in).
Is it against the paypal terms of service for these people to do this? What should I tell them
How to Become Popular on DeviantartSince I joined on deviantart I have been fascinated by many works.. Really nice works which have a lot of favourites and others which havent. I questioned myself why it could happen? Why works so wonderful and people so talented can be unknown in this community? How to Become Popular on Deviantart4 years ago in Art Features More Like This
So, I decided to write this article.
For it, I sent this three questions for some pop artists:
- What's the secret to become popular?
- Why do some people become popular so fast, doing ordinary art, and others which do amazing art cant be popular?
- Is there any trick to become popular? Like watching a lot of people, faving everything you can, posting a lot of journals or promoting contests?
Some of them answered me so kindly and fast, others answered me in a way kinda rude and others didnt answer..
By now, I have some ideas, some quotes and I want to show you all information I got about it.
So, lets start:
First, I must say there are several ways to become popular. To make this article, I did a
How to win at deviantART: ExposeddeviantART is a categories game. How to win at deviantART: Exposed2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
According to deviantART's hq, "deviantART's algorithm for Popular browse results (ie. front page) is known as Fair Exposure. The goal is to maximize the display of the most popular deviations in a variety of topics with Fair Exposure, the community is exposed to a varied cross-section of deviantART. "
What this boils down to is that certain art categories have inherent ranking advantages and others inherent ranking disadvantages on front page as a means of ensuring that a variety of works from across deviantART are visible on front page and not just that of one category. Sounds pretty good right?
Well let me say before I continue that I do not know deviantART's actual mathematical algorithm for front page ranking. However, I think that anyone who notices the composition of front pages (whether 8 hour or 24, main or by category) and the statistics of the pieces that populate those fronts pages can give you a pretty good guess.
You may have noticed d

Disclaimer: I'm no lawyer, I do not work for deviantArt, I'm merely someone who has been doing photomanips for quite a while and has taken the time to read quite a few articles on the topic. The views expressed hereunder are mine alone. They do not reflect any "official dA opinion" nor are they to be taken as "legal advice". Furthermore, you may live in a country that hasn't signed any of the treaties that govern international copyright law, so you'd have to check with your country's national laws.
I strongly urge you to not only read the journal, but also the comments underneath it as there are a lot more examples of what you can and can't do as well as more links to information being shared by your fellow deviants!
What is Copyright?
I'll paraphrase/quote the wikipedia article on the topic for this:
"Copyright is a legal concept, enacted by most governments, giving the creator of an original work exclus

Today we are looking at the Literature gallery, with our Top Tips.
Before you start
READ the piece all the way through.
Read it again, making notes of what you would like to point out in your critique.
Stay Objective- you are critiquing the piece not the person.
These tips are areas which aren't just necessary in critiquing others' work, but also when self-critiquing your own writing. This is one person's suggestions and I welcome any further tips in addition.
A good opening. The opening to any form of writing doesn't necessarily need to involve a physical explosion, but it needs to have an initial hook; something to entice the reader in. It needs to be clear, something that

"Very few possess true artistic ability. It is therefore both unseemly and unproductive to irritate the situation by making an effort.
If you have a burning, restless urge to write or paint, simply eat something sweet and the feeling will pass."
Wait for an inspiration
The mood is just not right today. Sure, you could pick up a pencil, sit down and push yourself to practice but the result would probably end up in a trash can. Waste of time, waste of material. Besides, the guy that commissioned you two months ago found a professional for the work already.
Expect the success to happen quickly
A year or two, tops, that's all it takes to build a reputation. Being an artist isn't a job like any other, therefore you don't need to work on it every day. No need for

This is a compilation of relatively easy steps to not only become "popular" but more importantly, become a sort of "asset" to DA. Inspire and encourage your fellow artists; SPREAD THE LOVE!
Many artists start their Devious Journey with the mindset that they will acquire Internet Fame.
Usually in the form of:
1. Thousands of adoring fans
2. Turning a profit from your hobby
My (let's call it) "Tutorial" will not show you how to con or manipulate people. I will simply show you how, with perseverance and kindness, you can attain valuable friends, an understanding of yourself(and your art), and irreplaceable golden memories!
Seem too good to be TRUE? Nonsense! All this is within each of our grasps.
It may take longer for some than others, but one can not achieve success without a little elbow grease.

The Problem With Character SheetsAlright, there are some pretty awesome character sheets out there. I don't personally use them, but I've seen others make them work. I'm not here to dispute the fact that they've got some utility, but I am here to point out one big problem with relying on a list of traits—which is generally how character sheets present these things—to define your character. The Problem With Character Sheets6 months ago in Literature Features More Like This
(Note: This also applies to Mary Sue tests. 'Not a Mary Sue' just means your character isn't a perfect storm of coincidence. It has nothing to do with likeability or even believability. <insert dictator here> isn't a Mary Sue, either.)
I think this approach is, if it's the only approach you take to figuring out a character, a really bad idea.
Take a moment to think about your best friend. What's their favorite food? What are they good at, and what are things they do that make you Google good places to dump a body?

Do you know the times when you put in a lot of effort and time into a deviation; however it does not get the attention that you think it deserves? This is a very common occurrence that deviants experience. You would like it if people commented on your work, for example, like expressing their opinions and critiques. However you see that there are very few comments for your deviation. Do you wish that you could do something to make your user page more appealing for other deviants to have an incentive to view your art? This guide might be able to help you by informing you of some simple tips and techniques. And hopefully these tips and techniques can give deviants more of an incentive to view and comment on your art, and possibly watch you also.
If you have some spare money it is recommendable to purchase the subscription service from DeviantArt. A subscription allows for a much larger freedom of activities for your user page. You can make fun polls, more
Commission - Approach and Pricing GuideDo you do commission work? Do you have trouble to get customers in order to buy commissions from you? Or Are you in a dilemma to set your own "competitive" commission price?Commission - Approach and Pricing Guide3 months ago in Art Features More Like This
If your answer is "yes" to any of the above questions then you are at the right place! Today, I'll tell you (or at least give you a better idea) how to start up with your commission work and setting up the right price.
A little introduction about myself: I am a hobby-driven artist who mainly deals with CSS coding and graphics designing (now) in deviantART. As a profession I am currently employed as an online marketing professional who looks after two leading online gaming brands. I like to help people customize their pages and support them to be a better artist in deviantART.
Having given my short introduction let us first understand that why most of us face a lot of trouble to get commission work or worst, to set up the "right" price for their service.

If you don't know what that means, that means he worked on lighting C: What I'm putting below is from notes I took during his lecture.Interested in Dreamworks? His job is to take the directors vision and make the movie look like it. He's making compositions and helping the story to better read. If you've ever talked to me on DA for three or more posts, you might have heard me blab about my major and what I'd like to do. I'd like to do into Lighting, animation second. I just don't feel my skills are as suited for animation, even though I really enjoy it.
