Why The DPI Race Is SillyThis is kinda a blog post to vent some steam about my frustration with people and their high DPI mice. Why The DPI Race Is Silly5 months ago in Personal More Like This
So what I'll basically be doing here is explaining what DPI means and how it affects our computing experience, then I'll tell you all about the current trends in top end mouse products and why (I think) high DPI mice are just using DPI as a gimmick to suck you all in.
What Is DPI?
DPI stands for "dots per inch" (otherwise known as CPI or "counts per inch", which is probably a better term) and the way it works is, a mouse will record a "step" (think of the step as the dot part of DPI) after it has been moved a certain distance. This step is fed to your computer to tell it to move the mouse cursor one pixel.
So one step (or dot) = one pixel. If you have a 1600 DPI mouse, you need to move it just 1/1600th of an inch before your cursor moves one pixel. To look at it another way, move your mouse one inch and you will move your cursor across 1600 pixels. This dot to pixel relationshi

I´m still hereHi everybody!I´m still here9 months ago in Personal More Like This
It´s been a while since the last time I login here... Also, long time since I don´t even open photoshop or design something new (my last forrst upload was from 8 months ago). But a few days later I made some icons for a commercial project and now I will try to end to big iconsets that I´ve been working since time ago:
16px vector icons ~ about 120 icons. -> http://dribbble.com/shots/367773-vectors-icons-2
32px png icons ~ about 200 icons. -> http://dribbble.com/shots/227883-32px-in-progress-2
Plus some .psd files that I have ready to be out.
But... just tell me, what happened in dA all this time? Where are all my old dA friends? Hope that everyone is fine! and... Some of you had earned a DD and I didn´t seen it??? You are late to post it on this journal so I can add it to mys

You can now change between "AppTab" (Default) look to "Tile" look. I purposefully went with the Windows 8 Tile look, that will most likely be a Pro option that you can change to however you would like it to be in the future releases.
Also, added "Visual Indicators" that is, currently, the item the mouse is over will "Go Grey-scale" and it will have a Blue "Check" triangle in the upper left-hand corner.
You will be able to change the Visual Indicators (both mouse-over effect and the Corner graphic) if you decide to get the Pro version.
Please note : This app is still under development, aspects may change. A Free version will be available, but Pro users that pay the activation cost will get more options.
No idea when the first Alpha will be available for download, but, I use this app on a daily basis, and it works fine f

new installerit is live. the main download links to "installer.zip", has three files, gets the app by internet.new installer11 months ago in Personal More Like This
mStartEX now has a revision checking system control, if new version is on server, it tells you, prompts for upgrade.
also, backs up all current(at that time) settings, then implements new ones as they show up.
now if you will excuse me, three hours of sleep was had for me to roll this massive update out (if not just for the updater + installer...)
also, a sick kitten is in my lap, needing Daddy's Attention and Love.
Thanks, DA.Well. Today, I just wanted to say thanks to all you guys here on DA.Thanks, DA.1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I've been here for two years (man, how time flies...), and I can honestly say that you guys have had a massive impact on my life. The entire time I've been a part of this community, I have never had a bad experience... with anybody! Without the encouragement of you guys, I probably would have dropped art all together. In addition to that, the beautiful artwork and incredibly thoughtful people that I have been exposed to here have influenced me in so many ways.
So, I just wanted to say... thanks, DA. Thank you for two years of art, encouragement, and friendship. Keep up the good work!
And thank you, my dear watchers. Without you, I'd just be an unknown person, sinking in the mire of anonymity. Thank you for your support.

Stratiform 2.2 / 3.0 NewsAs some of you probably already know, they did some funky stuff with the buttons in FF14, which kinda broke Stratiform's button styles.Stratiform 2.2 / 3.0 News1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Therefore, for the sake of compatibility we need to come up with a new version. It won't be backwards compatible, and it probably won't look anything like the current Stratiform.
Soapy, being the innovative hygiene product that he is, has completely redone the UI. It now basically looks like Colorlicious, but with more options. In other words, it is very Metro.
I think the new layout itself is pretty good, but I've never been amazingly fond of Metro. Just doesn't sit right with me for whatever reason.
So I'm asking what style of UI you guys would prefer; Metro, or something with a bit more detail (light gloss, slight rounding of edges, soft shadows, etc.)?
Our aim is to have this version available before the 5th of June (when FF14 goes beta). We have not yet discussed whether this will be v2.2 or v3.0.
Colorlicious & Add-on updatesWhat is Colorlicious?Colorlicious & Add-on updates1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Colorlicious is a lightweight add-on that allows you to easily change the color of toolbars, tabs, and buttons.
Colorlicious should work with all add-ons that work with the default theme.
FoxE9
There seem to be some issues with Firefox 14 and I'm looking into fixing these.
Australis
I'm contributing patches to the Firefox project so this has been put on hold for now. If there is a huge delay in some of these patches landing I will pick the theme back up.
Tabs Always in Titlebar
I'll try to get an update out later this week.

mStartEXSo in a fit of Jealous Rage I posted that i was stopping mStart2 due to people using Lee's ViStart.mStartEX1 year ago in Personal More Like This
And let be tell you, this was not just posted on dA, but on several sites. And what did I get?
People actually asking me Not to kill it. I am AMAZED. It was pointed out several times that I seem to have my own "style" for apps, that's true, I take from others, and re-imagine it, and go from there. So mStartEX will look different form the Vista/7 start menu... but it is supposed to be that way.
You see, I LIKE, if not even LOVE doing "Shell" programming, it is hard, challenging, and it keeps me occupied. SO I am here to say, I am keeping mStart2 going, under net name mStartEX. (mStart EXTRA) As how I wont "name names" more then a few suggested my own implementation of a "Charms Bar" in to EX, ok, i can do that, also a few other features that I wont divulge here.

JealousySo it may or may not be a secret that i have a jealousy issue. Especially towards programming.Jealousy1 year ago in Personal More Like This
You see, if i decide that I am going to write an app, i prefer to be the first one "out the door" with that type of app, a pack leader. But when i get the idea for an app, and i get a few days in to coding it, and i check the internet one day and see that others have somehow made an app that more or less duplicates what i was writing, i get angry. Mad, Holy Hell Furious Fire of The Damned You Fuckers you wrote an app like and and FUCK.... Yeah, that's what happens.
Serisouly, no kidding. except more cursing.
So that is why i had stopped, for now, getting mStart 2 to work expressly for Windows 8. People have re-discovered ViStart, and it works well, so no need to re-invent the wheel. That having been said, I am a bit upset that i finally got a QuickSearch in place for the start menu items, and a
Windows 8 Enhanced Features - Article-So As I spend more time using Windows 8 I have discovered some features in it that, for some reason, I have not seen mentioned at other tech sites that I visit. And let me assure you, it is a Lot of sites. But I need to backtrack a bit so that you can fully understand how it all comes together.Windows 8 Enhanced Features - Article-1 year ago in Personal More Like This
When your going through the Install Windows 8 setup process, at one time, it asks you if you want to associate your login account with a Hotmail or a live.com account. No big surprise there, Microsoft has been pushing that idea for a long, long, long time, let me tell you, all the ways back to Windows 98 SE.
Anyway, during setup you can associate a Microsoft online service with your login, and I am almost sure that this is what "ties" this feature together. You see, I had an old Hotmail account, some 15 years old that i associated. I just had to notify Setup and then login to the account. Now, I did, however, also notice tha
ColorliciousSoapy and I are working on a new add-on. It basically has all the colouring features of Stratiform in a lightweight (yeah okay, Stratiform was lightweight... this is super lightweight) and highly compatible add-on.Colorlicious1 year ago in Personal More Like This
It is dumbed down a bit, so everything is pretty much automagical. We haven't finalised any of the details yet, but there should be some sort of option to randomise the colour of the tabs. Whether this is fake CSS-only randomisation (yes, I worked out how to do that) or JavaScript randomisation, we don't know yet.
It should be compatible with most things, as long as they keep the same theming convention the default theme uses (ie, style the tabs and toolbar buttons using the same method). Stratiform couldn't do this because some of its styles were and had to be coded completely differently from the default theme.
Also, we are currently looking at Metro UI for the options.
Awesome name, eh?
Clear Dark NewsOkay, so here's what's going on with the theme. I haven't touched it in the while, because I've kind of lost my motivation to since I find dark themes difficult to develop without experiencing theme-breaking bugs and whatnot. So, what this means is that I'm likely going to start over and re-design it in Photoshop and work on importing the images into WSB again. I really don't want to abandon this project, so I'm going to stick with it, and hopefully it will come out even better in the end. ^_^ Changes will include increased usability, by providing more contrast between the elements in the theme, lightening the text, and the like.Clear Dark News1 year ago in Personal More Like This
This next one I release will hopefully be a 1.0, and not a beta. So, for those of you who are watching me, keep an eye out for it!
FoxE9BEHOLD, A REAL IE9 THEME FOR FIREFOX: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/foxe9/FoxE91 year ago in Personal More Like This
I know there are a million things that are different between the two browsers but we are not aiming on adding IE9 features or completely rearranging stuff to make it look 100% IE9-ish. We don't have the time to bother with such things. Instead, it is a theme that hopefully satisfies peoples' strange desires to make their Firefox look similar to IE9.
Where I'm Headed From HereThanks to all of you who have supported the release of my first complete Windows 7 theme, "Shiroi" and the newly created spin-off, "Kuroi!" Without your encouragement and feedback, this wouldn't have been possible for me. Not to mention all the help I received during the making of my "ClearDark Beta" theme! Believe it or not, it was those who backed me in the creation of Clear Dark Beta that have the most to do with the success of Shiroi and Kuroi. I feel like Clear Dark was more of an experiment. Nevertheless, I intend on finishing and improving it, so that it can be a usable theme on anyone's desktop.Where I'm Headed From Here1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Aside from this, I stated in Shiroi's description that I'll likely be creating a whole "family," so to speak, of color-themed themes for Windows 7. Shiroi and Kuroi being the first two of said family. I'll probably make a blue, red, purple, and pink theme next, but I'm planning on going for the whol
1M Downloads & GithubThis day marks a special milestone of achievement for the developers of Omnimo. A humble project that started almost two years ago reached one million downloads today. Most of you probably don't know that this project was supposed to be much smaller. When I came up with the early concept in the middle of March, I intended it to have approximately 12 panels and several text items.1M Downloads & Github1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Omnimo: The Beginning
Nothing more. However, shortly after the concept, Xyrfo joined the project. And with our combined passion and ambition, as well as with some help from others, we managed to create the biggest Rainmeter suite ever. Xyrfo did some amazing stuff for the project. Things without which it would just remain but a dream of a madman. But he did it! For that, he deserves no less recognition than I do.
And of course, we would like to thank the community for all the support! You guys are awesome! Nothing motivates doing a project better than to see people use and enjoy the product. W
"Shiroi" is Complete! Lemmie tell you, it feels SO good to be using my OWN Windows 7 theme for a change. I think I appreciate it a lot more because I put so much hard work into it. I'm very proud of myself- especially the fact that I completed it in a matter of days. The only delay was that I went over to my boyfriend's house for a couple days, which allowed me a break from theming. Because, when I'm dead set on finishing something, nothing else exists until I get it done. o_O"Shiroi" is Complete!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Anyway, I hope you all like it. I might keep up with the light theming because it's admittedly SO much easier than creating a dark theme. So to those who can produce such themes seemingly flawlessly, more power to you. But I don't yet have the skill to successfully create one without theme debilitating bugs. Regardless, I WILL be trying my best to complete the "Clear Dark" theme that I have uploaded as a beta right now.
