Requiem Rivalry: Part 2The next morning, Vinyl's eyes opened to a familiar pair of lavender irises.
"Octavia? What...what happened?"
"You passed out from the shock," she answered. "Oh, and you might not want to move your right foreleg too much. It's not in the best shape."
Vinyl looked over at a clock on the nightstand, almost jumping up when she realized the time.
"I'm late for class!"
The pain shot through her body from her sudden movement, and at the same time, she took notice of something else wasn't amiss.
"...You're...not in class, Octavia..."
Octavia smiled. "I worked something out. I went to the principal this morning and explained the situation. Reverb and Distort were immediately called in and suspended before my very eyes, and your teachers are going to send your work here with somepony. They also asked somepony to stay with you and keep you up to date on the material."
"Well, where are they?" Vinyl asked.
Octavia gave her a smile and lightly bopped the unicorn's forehead with her hoof, causing he

The familiar voices echoed throughout Princess Celestia's castle as the regal cellist Octavia exchanged a verbal battle with the disc-jockey Vinyl Scratch. The Grand Galloping Gala had just ended, and upon Vinyl's self-proclaimed 'fashionably late arrival', the two rivaling musicians had once again sparked up a pointless debate.
"You just couldn't possibly understand the true beauty of classical music!" Octavia exclaimed.
"You just refuse to let some good music rock your eardrums for once in your stuffy, miserable life!" Vinyl yelled in reply.
"Why, you obnoxious little party freak! You wouldn't know a good tune if it beat your flank halfway across Equestria!"
"And you call your slow, weak songs 'good'? Ol' Granny Smith in Ponyville knows my kinda music's way better than yours, and she's half deaf!"
Octavia immediately pointed her bow at Vinyl, glaring angrily at her.
"You've no right to be here, Vinyl Scratch. You're a simple party unico

"V-Vinyl, what has g-gotten into you?" Octavia mumbled through a shower of kisses and nuzzles, the unicorn being more aggressively affectionate than usual.
"You just look sexy tonight." She responded sensually, forcing her lover back even further towards their bedroom.
" I wouldn't worry about what's gotten into me but you might wanna think about what's gonna get into you " She whispered in her ear in the most sensual tone she could muster. Octavia's face turned a deep shade of crimson, returning the kisses almost as intensely as her partner.
The kisses grew more intense and more frequent with every passing moment, the brown pony finally forced onto her back when her rear legs made contact with the bed. Vinyl immediately straddled Octavia, continuing to shower her with gentle kisses and brushes of her mane, her tail gently twirling itself around her lover's.
Octavia's mind was in a flurry. 'Vinyl is being more aggressive than usual I could DEFINITELY g

The complaint came from an irritable-looking gryphon, standing atop a tall hill overlooking the simple town of Ponyville. But it was much different than normal. Ponyville, along with all of Equestria, had been shrouded in the cold blanket of Winter. Snow covered the ground, flora and rooftops of the small town, and decorations for the Ponyville celebration of the Winter's Festival had been thrown up on all the houses. Lights of multiple colors, wreathes with fake holly adorning them decoratively, and trees wrapped in tinsel, covered in ornaments and topped with stars and angels visible through every window.
"Oh, come on, G, lighten up a bit!"
The excited retort came from a cyan pegasus with a prismatic mane standing beside the gryphon. She was bundled up in a Winter coat designed by her good friend Rarity not only to fit snugly and keep her warm, but also to resemble the aeronautic acrobats she so adored: the Wonderbolts. The coat and its matching scarf held

Octavia's Journal, June 21st, 2012, Morning. Dear Celestia, it's hot here in Ponyville. The temperature felt like an oven. My whole body was sweating all over, it might as well be a shower. At least I wasn't suffering alone. Vinyl was breathing rapidly like a little puppy, it was just too cute. I hope our AC get's here quick, I paid so much bits for it, it should get her sooner than later. For now, the only thing the both of us can do is head by the lake and relax on the water. The lake was so messy, I would just stand and watch while Vinyl have her fun acting like a dolphin. That pony might be loud and rough, but she meant well. I'll never forget our days in Manehatten, which were my last days. Well I wouldn't say my last, I'll still go there, but I wouldn't live there. It was February; the last days of winter.
Allegrezza - Part NineteenVinyl barely breathed, hardly even dared to blink her eyelids. It wasn't a tense silence when Octavia's cello finally fell silent, her private concert completed with a fluttering crescendo. No, it was the calmest silence Vinyl had ever experienced, a moment which neither pony wanted to break.Allegrezza - Part Nineteen4 years ago in Short Stories More Like This
She could almost sense the fine, spidersilk-like strands that bonded her and Octavia together for that one, infinite moment. The moment that simply hung time in the air, the sensation of the bond feeling stronger, sturdier, yet one soft whisper would blow the moment away. She simply lay were she was, Octavia's head resting on her shoulder, that adorable little manedo she had falling across Vinyl's chest. She wasn't even sure if she was awake, she seemed as peaceful as a pony in the deepest realms of sleep.
However, Octavia was, in fact, of this waking world. She still felt detached from it, like Equestria was rushing past around them, while they experienced everything each second could offer to th

There was a long pause in Vinyl's kitchen, wherein Vinyl was doing anything but listening to Lyra. The mint unicorn's irritation showed.
"Huh? Oh, hi Lyra. Didn't see you there."
Vinyl's eyes furrowed. She didn't want to be broken from her reverie, especially if it was only to say hello to Lyra. Lyra scowled and stepped close to her white counterpart, trying to keep her attention.
"Why do you look so chipper this morning? Mornings aren't really your thing, you know."
It took all of Vinyl's self-control to not roll her eyes. She always got really sick of Lyra telling her about herself like she didn't know. Her irritation washed away quickly, though, as she remembered why exactly she was in a good mood on such a chilly, grey autumn day.
"Just in a good mood, is that okay?" Irritation laced Vinyl's words in spite of the imploding levels of happiness she felt inside.
"Well yeah. I mean, I'm not telling you you can't be happy.

"Of course, Mother. What do you need?" Octavia asked, moving over to the kitchen table. She retrieved a parchment and pen to write down a list.
"Okay. I need an onion or two, around six or seven carrots, some garlic cloves, tomatoes, rosemary, clam broth and parsley."
Octavia finished writing, and set the pen down. "Anything else, Mother?"
"Not off the top of my head." Madeline then hoofed her a small pouch full of bits. "This should be more than enough. Just head on down to the grocery store on the far end of town, dear. Thank you!" Madeline said, giving Octavia a small kiss on the forehead. "Be careful, that area is not quite as forward and welcoming as this side of town."

"Today is the day," she muttered to herself, "My last day at home."
It struck her, not for the first time, that she would not be waking to her cosy little blue painted bedroom for almost a year after today. Her feather bed, her pictures of friends and family that plastered her walls, her little filly-sized practice cello in the corner. This would be the last she saw of them for a long time.
"I'm not a little filly anymore, though," she said as she made her way to her mirror. That was what Mother always said.
It sure didn't feel that way as she looked at her reflection in the mirror. Her messy blue mane that never stayed the way she wanted it, her tiny horn that could barely lift a hairbrush with its magic and, worst of all, her blank, cutie mark-less flank.
She sighed and focused

Her musings were cut short as an iron grey hoof suddenly reached around her waist as a pair of soft lips brushed against her cheek. Abruptly Vinyl changed her mind about being awake early. Chapter 1: Give A Little Bit
It was a sunny day in Ponyville. The sky was dotted with a few clouds, most were small and easily drifting in the wind. In the library, Twilight Sparkle was cleaning the building with her small dragon assistant, Spike. The purple unicorn used her magic to stack the books neatly next to the dragon, to which Spike placed the book on the correct shelf using his small ladder. This was their normal Sunday routine, which would end with a gem as a treat for Spike, his favorite part. However, their ritual was interrupted by a knock at the front door.
"Hmm? I wonder who that could be?" Twilight asked herself as she slowly made her way to the door to open it. Behind the door was a white unicorn with a stylish purple mane. She looked a little troubled and slightly stressed, "Oh, hello there, Rarity."
"Hello, Twilight," she replied, her voice seemed to be concerned.

"Come on Tavi, Why not?!" asked a mildly irritated Vinyl Scratch.
"I'm not going to tell you again. Just no, I refuse." replied Octavia, she was getting more annoyed by the second. She also hated it when the filly unicorn used that name for her.
Since their classes at Canterlot's Academy for the Musically Gifted ended for the day, Scratch hadn't left the young grey filly's side. It was their last day of classes before their week long study break, and the white unicorn was trying to get Octavia to go out with her. For months now, Scratch had developed a huge crush on Octavia and made it her goal to ask her out. During their entire time at the academy, the two fillies never really saw eye to eye. They were constantly butting heads with one another, mostly due to the fact that they were each other's biggest competition. Scratch was well known all around the school for her amazing beat mixing talent, as well as her reputation as a player among the other fillies. Octavia o

Mounting entries on her to-do list coupled with a draining amount of time in which to attend to them had made Octavia somewhat irritable. The night of the Gala was upon them, and she was expected to be in attendance with her ensemble in no less than an hour. As such, it was very much to her chagrin that she discovered Vinyl asleep on the bed, where she should have already begun changing into her outfit.
A burst of sharp jabs to the stomach remedied the situation, and Vinyl's bleary eyes were met with the sight of a rather indignant Octavia bearing down on her.
"Vinyl, are you asleep?!"
A brief respite was given from the intent glare, as Vinyl's hooves shakily rubbed her eyes.
"Yeah...I was, what's up?"
Octavia practically cuffed Vinyl to her hooves, her benevolence somewhat lessened by copious amounts of stress, and an impatient cart driver waiting outside to bear them away to the palace.

Octavia awoke the next morning to a loud banging on her door. She rubbed her eyes open, smiling thinking that it was her Scratch arriving early. She was excited to think about the two of them having an all day bed day. The grey filly looked over and saw that her friend, Beauty Brass, had already gotten up and left for breakfast. She hopped out of bed silently thanking her friend for leaving and happily trotted over to the door, quickly fixing her mane before pulling it open. Her smile slightly faded as she realized that the pony standing in the door wasn't her fillyfriend. Octavia then became extra concerned when she realized it was a very distraught and tired looking Soundcheck looking back at her.
"Check, what's wrong?" she began. "Where's Scratch? She was supposed to be here this morning."
Soundcheck looked down at the floor and pushed back her tears before she began to talk. "Listen Tavi, it was horrible. Scratch

Vinyl and Bonbon got comfortable in the seating area once again, while Lyra and Octavia reclaimed their space on the stage. Each found the sheet music they had scattered around in their standoff, and pored over it together. Octavia noted an interesting point in the notations scattered over the page, sparking her interest into the nature of the musical piece.

As much as she admired the city, she was a little uneasy. Her visit to Ponyville had gone well enough in the end, but only because she had deigned to visit on the one day ponies wanted to be scared by her. The citizens of Equestria had yet to really accept their second Princess, even in her own home; the frightened looks and furtive whispers from the courtiers in the castle were bad enough, even with Celestia there to set them straight, and Luna knew it would only be worse in the city proper. "Bah, I should've known." The princess of the moon sulked, staring at her teacup. Across the table from her, her older sister sighed and sipped her tea before continuing. These mornings didn't give them a lot of time to bond, and she felt all the worse when they spent that time fighting. At least alone as they were in Celestia's study Luna could be convinced to speak candidly.

Rarity inhaled deeply, letting the pleasant aroma of her drink fill her nostrils. The snifter glass gently shifted about, buoyed by her magical aura, and its burgundy contents swirled along the transparent walls. She tipped the glass to her lips, gracefully sipping its contents in a way that only years of cultured drinking could imbue. A satisfied smile crossed her lips as the cognac warmed her throat as it drained to her stomach. She was almost finished with her third glass of the night, which would put her just at her tolerance level for this particular beverage; such a shame that her friends didn't know their own tolerances.
At that thought, she looked about the bar from her seat in the corner booth. While she wasn't the type to normally socialize in such establishments, this bar was cultured enough for her tastes, being well designed, well built, and having a satisfactory selection of

Learning was something that came relatively naturally to Octavia. Truly, any musician worth their salt-lick was also a fast learner. Decoding notes, rhythm and timbre at a speed ponies of other professions found difficult to match. Octavia's own specialty was more the art of learning and understanding a piece. Looking beyond the notes and timing to the emotion behind it, mimicking the composer's emotion and intent with each saw of her bow. If she were to try, she could most likely learn any instrument she wished to. It was simply a matter of preference and habit that she stayed loyal to her cello after all these years.
