Update about My Cancer, Good and Bad News.Hey guys, I hope everyone is doing great, I wanted to give everyone a quick update. I wanted to let everyone know how things were going and what I have been up too. As always thanks to everyone for all the amazing support and kind words from my last journal.Update about My Cancer, Good and Bad News.1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Since that last journal, I have been busy fighting the cancer and went thru a couple of more chemo sessions. I just had a new one a couple of weeks ago and while I was going thru that session, which is over a week. I noticed that I was having trouble breathing and a couple of times nearly passed out. During a session, one of my nurses took some blood to check the oxygen content and found out it was extremely low. The doc was worried about that and they took me to the Hospital where they did some scans on me and found out I had some blood clots in my lungs, they moved quickly to get me in the hospital and start meds to fight the blood clots before they had a chance to move to my brain and kill me.
In the hospital, I was given d

As part of Traditional Art History Month I will be interviewing some of the Traditional Art Community, including your lovely TradART Community Volunteers
Today it's the lovely STelari, your Community Volunteer for Traditional Art
Hi STelari, tell us a little about yourself and your style of Art.
I'm a creation addict... and my name is Sylwia (: My personality and interests are clearly visible in what and how I do; a bit twisted, with a creepy shell, sometimes rigid, but I tend to hide a smile in details that require your search.
I'm crazy about trying new things and techniques and what you can see in my dA gallery is just a tip of an iceberg.
What is it that attracts you to Traditional Art?
It's traditional (: Anything I do has a connection to the past and it gives me a chill when I think that some of the techni

Art History: John William Waterhouse:iconarthistoryproject: :iconcommunityrelations:Art History: John William Waterhouse3 years ago in Art Features More Like This
A man of some mystery John William Waterhouse, most affectionately known throughout his lifetime as 'Nino" was born in Rome to his English parents William and Isabella during the wonder years of the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood who set the art world alight.
It was his Italian beginnings that first influenced his artistic style as a young man first at school in Leeds, then later at his fathers studio in London where he entered the coveted Royal Academy of Arts at the age of 21, not as a painter; but as a sculptor. Six months later his probationary term ended and he was fully enrolled as a student leading to his first painting exhibits.

Project Educate: Mixed MediaIn the realm of visual arts Mixed Media is a work that employs two or more distinct types of traditional media. A work of art made with oil and acrylic paint would be mix media. The acrylic should generally be the first layers, because they dry much faster and tend to crack when applied over oils, unless that's the effect your wanting. Using vine and compressed charcoal would not be, as they are the different types of the same medium. Mixed Media should also not be confused with Multimedia. Multimedia combines visual element with non visual elements, such as music and interactivity.Project Educate: Mixed Media3 years ago in Art Features More Like This

Traditional Tuesdays #34Howdy peeps? Welcome to the edition 34 of Traditional Tuesdays . This week, like all of the other weeks, I'll be featuring fifteen works of art from the Traditional Gallery. Any more than that might and you might loss interest or it could cause your monitor to fail in an explosion of awesomeness. I would feel guilty if that were to happen, so I'm keeping it at fifteen! The Traditional gallery is a vast storeroom of work that covers many mediums and genres. I've tried to show a good mix of artwork, but I don't have room for them all. So sit back, relax, and enjoy the show!Traditional Tuesdays #343 years ago in Art Features More Like This

The State of Sculpture on Deviant ArtI've been trying to remain patient and open minded concerning the state of sculpture on dA. When I departed from my 'post' in April, I felt more than a bit guilty but in my defense, I had stayed on much longer than what I originally signed up for. I simply needed a break. Anyway, I recently discovered that the Traditional Art and the Artisan Craft moderators have been doing their best to cover sculpture as well as their own galleries and I commend their efforts. However, at this point, I am wondering what is fated for Sculpture on dA. There does not appear to be a "vacancy" for a Sculpture Gallery moderator any longer and while one of the Traditional Art moderators has been designated to handle sculpture as well as his own area of expertise, this means, to me, that Sculpture has been relegated to a less important and far less visible position in the dA community. I hope IThe State of Sculpture on Deviant Art3 years ago in Personal More Like This

A few words on punk vs. steampunk.Never Mind The BollocksA few words on punk vs. steampunk.3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Or: How Spec-Lit Fucked Up A Perfectly Good Word.
Punk 'til you puke!
As a youth revolution punk was a solid fist full of fuck you! An angry, ugly, straight razor attack on the bloated excess of 1970's pop culture.
There was punk rock music from the likes of The Sex Pistols, Black Flag, and The Dead Kennedys.
There was punk cinema in films such as Repoman, Suburbia, and The Fabulous Stains.
There was punk lit, punk art, even a punk offshoot of gonzo journalism.
It was a way of life fueled by a belief that nothing is sacred, authority is never to be trusted, and most importantly, you can always Do It Yourself...better known as the DIY ethos.
In a word, punk is rebellion.
And I know a bit about words. Word have power. Word have strength. Words are the bits of
Our London deviantMEET Was Brilliant! On Saturday, June 14, 2009, deviantART held a deviantMEET at the Albert Memorial in Hyde Park. Over 350 deviants showed up to celebrate all things deviantART, setting a record for the highest attended deviantMEET in history in the process... until now.Our London deviantMEET Was Brilliant!3 years ago in DeviantArt Announcements More Like This
Almost exactly three years later -- on Saturday, June 30, 2012 -- at the same location in Hyde Park, London deviants once again turned up in droves. Smashing the previous record, our London deviantMEET 2012 saw over 550 deviants throughout the day.
Most deviantMEETs include a group photo, usually taken towards the end of the event's festivities. However, we wasted no time taking our group shot in front of the Albert Memorial, as we wanted to ensure we were complying with Hyde Park's rules and regulations for large gatherings. With a group this massive -- and awesome -- it's hard not to draw attention!
Update About My CANCERA big Thanx to everyone for your support and prayers and all your kind words. I just wanted to give everyone a quick update, I'm basically fully healed from the operations where they removed the tumor from my left hip and my lower back.Update About My CANCER3 years ago in Personal More Like This
I've just been busy talking to the Docs and I also recieved a new scan this week. They wanted to see how I've healed and check for any new growths. The good news is that I'm clear and the spots they operated look good overall. They did say that I have two spots on my liver that they will be watching, there not sure what they are yet, but my scans down the road will help determine that if they do start going, but they could just end up being tissue on the liver.
I also finally found out about the chemo. I had been waiting on that news. It's been approved and I should start it next week. The good news it won't be as long as the last dose I recieved, which was 5 days a week and 6hrs a day. Which is good news. Since I'm taking the chemo to preven

The efficiency of the machinery that is Phyrexia depends on its constituents. We need creatures, machines, artificial horrors and demons of machinery to fill the spheres, to increase the Ineffable’s glory, to attract more followers to the Spheres-of-Phyrexia.
Yet, the scopes of DeviantArt are manifold and within them lay concealed countless works worthy to survive Phyrexia. Have you detected works that involve mechanically enhanced, artificially grown, or otherwise compleated creatures or artifacts in the depths of DeviantArt?
Betray them to us! Bring forth these works of art, their tormented shapes, the glory of their artifice, of their compleation. Make their location known to us so that they may be dragged down to us into the Spheres of Phyrexia, be added to our gallery and give satisfaction to us all!
Glory to the Father of Machines!
Update About My CANCERIt's been awhile since I updated anything, so I wanted to let you guys know whats I've been up to with the treatment and how I'm doing. As always, a huge Thanx to everyone for all your support and prayers and throughout my battle.Update About My CANCER3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Since my last update, I went through two chemo sessions so far. They are Mon thru Friday and last 6hrs a day. I just finished up my latest week and I'm in recovery right now. Just getting back into it and fighting the heavy nausea. Ive been through it before and each day it gets better as I fight the fatigue and the nausea.
As for the chemo, it's the roughest they can give me according to the Doc, which is fine, especially if it can win the battle for me like it did the last time in my previous battles with this cancer. The Tumor count for me right now is at 8 and the Doc is looking into me getting a new PET Scan maybe next week to see if the chemo has shrunk any of them so far. If so, I'll then continue my rounds of the chemo and then prepare for the radi
Update About My CANCER, I'm back from the HospitalA huge thanx to everyone for your support and prayers for my new battle. I wanted everyone to know that I'm back home and now working on recovering. I had the operation on Tuesday morning and the Doc said everything went great.Update About My CANCER, I'm back from the Hospital3 years ago in Personal More Like This
From what he said, both Tumors were located just as the scans showed them and they had no trouble removing them. The first tumor removed was the one in my left hip leg muscle. They had to remove some of my leg muscle around the tumor, but everything else looked good, no other spots or anything. The other tumor was removed from my right side, my upper right buttocks and lower back. For that one, they removed the skin around the tumor to prevent any other cell growth. He also didn't see any other spots around it.
From what the doctor said, I would have trouble putting preasure on my left leg for awhile and preasure on my right side, but at least I'm home and feeling good now that this new round with the cancer is over. I'll be in pain for a few weeks, but nothing
BullyingA teacher in New York was teaching her class about bullying and gave them the following exercise to perform. She had the children take out a piece of paper and told them to crumple it up, stomp on it and really mess it up, not to rip it. Then she had them unfold the paper, smooth it out and look at how scarred and dirty it was. She then told them to tell it they're sorry. Now, even though they said they were sorry and tried to fix the paper, she pointed out all the scars they left behind. And that those scars will never go away no matter how hard they tried to fix it. That is what happens when a child bullies another child, they may say they're sorry, but the scars are there forever. The looks on the faces of the children in the classroom told her the message hit home. Copy and paste this if you are against bullying.Bullying4 years ago in Personal More Like This

Adoptables, Basics for Adoptables ArtistsTwo Steps to StartAdoptables, Basics for Adoptables Artists3 years ago in Deviant Events More Like This
Create a new account
This is not necessary, per se, but if you have in mind to do more than just one or two sheets of adoptables, it might be a good idea to start a new account. This way you won't spam your watchers' inbox, if they're not interested in adoptables, and you can organize your gallery in a better way.
Be a member of Adoptables Groups
dA is a big community and the sheer amount of new deviations every day makes it hard for your art to be seen. Considering that you just made a new account for your adoptables, you have basically no watchers whatsoever so how can you get the exposure you need to sell your characters? The answer is join Adoptables Groups. By doing this you can do two things, the first is submit your adoptables to their gallery and advertise them, the second is observing the trends, what people like to draw and buy more.

Update to deviantART Mobile
In October, we launched the new mobile site to everyone, and while we stand by its design and functionality, we received valid statements regarding older devices not being compatible with the new layout. With this in mind, we've brought back the old mobile site for older devices, with the option to switch to one or the other depending on your preference.
For said devices, a banner will appear on the main deviantART page that says, "Touch here to switch to deviantART's legacy mobile site," which will reload the page with the old mobil
