We're sponsoring Artists' Alley 2012!
We're headed to Comic-Con International:
San Diego to sponsor Artists' Alley!
We Love Artists' Alley
We're back at Comic-Con!
Last year, our sponsorship of Artists' Alley was a huge success. We were able to provide a more comfortable environment for the artists, display their art on huge screens over the Alley, and let people attending the convention draw with deviantART muro on fantastic digital screens. We plan to do this and more in 2012 as we take on the great pleasure of sponsoring Artists' Alley at San Diego Comic-C
The Turtles TrailerI am absolutely delighted with it. It’s everything I hoped it would be: Terrible. The Turtles Trailer1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Had it looked GOOD, there would have been this nagging feeling that I’d be missing out on something if I stuck to my vow of never again watching another Michael Bay movie. I have fond childhood memories of the Turtles, so I may have weakened. But because it looks like, well, a Michael Bay movie, that feeling simply isn’t there. I have no desire, at all, to pay for or sit through that film.
Transformers 3 was the last chance I was willing to give. I thought “There’s no way it could actually be WORSE than Transformers 2. I’ll give it a shot”.
Somehow…. it was.
That was it. That was the breaking point. No more Bay. EVERYTHING he goes near is pure effluent, and all the evidence you need of how toxic a film Turtles is going to be is in that trailer.
Obviously, we don’t know what the plot is at this point, but it’s a
Sketchbook Pro 6So most of you know that I'm a Sketchbook Pro user.Sketchbook Pro 63 years ago in Personal More Like This
A few days back, Autodesk released Sketchbook Pro 6, and I think this is the version that's going to make a lot of people who have YET to experience Sketchbook Pro in full, or haven't really given the past versions a chance, switch over to making it their digital drawing software of choice; heck, even their PAINTING software of choice.
We still have the cleverly-designed user interface, that makes it easy on the eyes and mind when we're brainstorming and sketching. With the handful of new tools introduced, we still have a clutter-free drawing environment, and man, there's some awesome tools this time around. I'll go down the list:
The Brush Library
The main brush toolbar itself has a click-and-drag function, allowing you to store all your often-used brushes in each of the "lanes". You then can click the button on the upper-right and then a fu

now that i have your attention .. ahem XD
i felt the need to brag!
i have finally completed last issue of wildfire, just yesterday, which is my first ever full art project that ever got published!!
so hopefully the updates here will be a little more frequent (that is until my next project XD)
and with more experience i will be able to manage my time a bit better, (and become faster and better at drawing.)
Currently whenever i finish a project i don't even take a break, i immediately switch to doing bloodstain, because i don't know how much time i will have until the next project (it could be 2 weeks or 2 days from one comic to the other)
so yeah XD no break for me XD
anyway just wanted to give you all a status report.
While my Guitar Gently WeepsI'm sure many of you already know this but for those who don't, late August 23, Jerry Nelson [Floyd Pepper, Count Von Count, Gobo Fraggle and so on] passed away. Jerry was one of the greats, in my [and I'm sure many] opinion, he was the voice of the Muppets, whenever someone talks of a beautiful song, it's normally sung by him. Makes sense since he said once if it wasn't for Jim giving him a job, he would of become a Folk singer [by the way, his CD is really nice, a mix of silly and beauty.]While my Guitar Gently Weeps3 years ago in Personal More Like This
At first when I found out I was stunned, but after a little time, it's ok, Jerry has raised many of us to love music, to count, to adventure, and to laugh. Now, he has gone to the Rainbow Connection, he will be preforming once more with Richard Hunt. He will see old friends, and lost loved ones. Jerry lived a long life, leaving us plenty to remember, so this is why I feel, while tears are inevitable, that we should celebrate, as we did with Jim, and as we did with Richard, we should grab our instru

F**k-ugly watermarks.I follow a lot of insanely talented artists here on DA, people whose work I look at in sheer awe and whose skill I can only dream of one day matching.F**k-ugly watermarks.1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Unsurprisingly, that high quality of work leads to them either having their work ripped off or operating in fear of that happening. They, quite rightly, want to protect their art with a watermark, something which I'm not against at all.
What I am against, what I hate, is people using that god-awful DA watermark.
If you are a good artist: don't be a lazy git. Make your own watermark, use your own logo. You'll protect your work without doing it the disservice of having some automatically-generated arse-smear ruining it.
artbook questions - again!hey wonderful followers. thanks again for all the help regarding the art theft from last week. i'll keep you posted on what happens!artbook questions - again!2 years ago in Personal More Like This
i'm thinking about that artbook i mentioned a few journal entries back. i have some ideas of how i want to handle the content, which includes a few exclusive pieces, tutorials/walkthroughs and probably a dvd showing my painting process. i want to make it happen! but one thing i've decided is to look for a publisher in the U.S. it would be great since that would make the book altogether more affordable for many of you - it's so expensive to ship from europe! so i wanted to ask if any of you guys could suggest any american publishers or knew any companies that make interesting artbooks that aren't too expensive/gigantic? any tips would be great. thank youuuuuu for reading!
Features and ArtworksI want to say thank you to all the blogs who have featured my Barbara Gordon Batgirl costume in the past days and also to the people who created all those beautiful artworks inspired by my costume. Can't really understand the mentality of people that set out to cause digital vandalism.
Angsty, pathetic little minds, so stunted on the creativity front that the only way they can feel any sense of accomplishment is by undoing someone else’s efforts?
I just can't think that....small.
You can do any number of things with your time, any number of wonderful things to make your mark on the world. If all you can come up with is doing something to make another person’s life more difficult: you’re a bit of a prick.

i have seen in my life many artists who proclaimed they want to develop their skills, and kept bashing on everyone and everything on the way....and for some reason those guys never got anywhere...
here is why..
there is a value to different approaches, different styles. realism, manga , cartooney disney, my little pony, furries....don't waste your time tryint to bash any of the stuff you don't personally like
you are missing out, bigtime!
see there is a reason why that stuff is popular. and by that i mean on the visual side. so instead of flaming , trolling and bashing, try understanding the inner workings of it.
here are some specific examples
realism- it is a wonderfully complex base , reflects one's skill in capturing reality, but in it there are differences between photo referenced, real life work and no reference. ALL HAVE THEIR VALUE AND IMPORTANCE! from photos you can learn alot, gain analytic skills, develop an attention to

updates and a thank youso... sunstone book 1 was the fifth place on the top seller graphic novels listsupdates and a thank you1 month ago in Personal More Like This
this was your doing and you have my sincere thanks.
i did not expect this. sunstone was never supposed to be a moneymaker project and will continue to be a free webcomic to it's very end. but your support meant a lot
last year was tough...
you noticed that my output was significantly lower...well... in the number of strips, but taking into consideration the much longer strips of chapter 4, difference is not that drastic.
there was a reason for this. i kept alluding to a family health crisis. i prefer to keep these things to myself
but now that this is behind us, i can say what made a mess of the year
my mom was diagnosed with a severe heart condition. day before book 1 came out she was admitted to hospital to have stents implanted and the procedure was a success.
last year i was operating under a constant prepare for the worst case scenario kind of pressure.
to ensure i
10 years?!? wow!!!haha wow, i just noticed that I've officially been on deviantart for 10 years now. gotta draw something to commemorate that soon! i'm not gonna lie, it means quite a lot to me. even though i didn't know it at the time, putting my artwork online and joining art communities like deviantart has become the foundation of pretty much my entire LIFE as i know it now. i mean i started uploading my artwork to this site for fun, just to get in touch with other artists and gain some exposure, and now it is my career. i firmly believe that my fanbase here on deviantart and the things i've learned here have EVERYTHING to do with me being able to work as a freelance artist. i discovered so many inspiring and great artists through this site. the reason i chose the Utrecht School of the Arts as my college was because i followed Bakenius and loved his work; when i didn't like the school i was attending at the time, i contacted him through deviantart notes and he advised me to check out his school10 years?!? wow!!!1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Thor: The Dark WorldA quick, spoiler-free review: it's goooooood.Thor: The Dark World1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I'd actually say that it's the best paced super-hero flick since the first Iron Man film.
Incredible Hulk fizzled in the third act.
Iron Man 2 saw every character turn either really wet or go full retard.
Thor felt a bit like a plodding, 80s, movie-with-a-message.
Captain America just felt like an extended prologue for The Avengers.
The Avengers didn't really get going until the finale.
And Iron Man 3 occupies a middle ground between Iron Man and Iron Man 2.
I'm certainly not saying any of those films were bad, it's just they felt saggy in areas.
Thor: The Dark World has a perfect pace. It's engaging right from the get-go and doesn't trip up once (that I noticed).
It is part of the Marvel cinematic series, though, so there are many, many nods and references to previous films (one of Loki's disguises is brilliant), which may leave newcomers lost.
And, of course, if
