RPGs need to find a new angle.I’ve been skimming through previews of Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt.RPGs need to find a new angle.11 months ago in Personal More Like This
I am so bored with the standard aesthetic of RPGs.
Swords, sorcery, European environments.
I’m sure that my weariness of these visuals stems from the fact I live in England, and that I grew up playing amid the ruins that scatter the borderlands of the North East. Ancient mounds, the remnants of Hadrian’s wall, fallen abbeys and frontier fortifications; because I see all that in REAL LIFE, I have no desire to wander digital versions.
Fable 2 and 3 are exceptions. Those are clearly fantasy versions of England, but they nod to different periods in history. 16th and 17th century rather than 11th and 12th. Flintlocks over chainmail. It adds something new.
I never bothered to finish Skyrim, but I’ve played Fallout 3 and New Vegas a dozen times, because the latter games are, to British eyes, a more exotic world. They are just as strange and foreign to me as a land l

i have seen in my life many artists who proclaimed they want to develop their skills, and kept bashing on everyone and everything on the way....and for some reason those guys never got anywhere...
here is why..
there is a value to different approaches, different styles. realism, manga , cartooney disney, my little pony, furries....don't waste your time tryint to bash any of the stuff you don't personally like
you are missing out, bigtime!
see there is a reason why that stuff is popular. and by that i mean on the visual side. so instead of flaming , trolling and bashing, try understanding the inner workings of it.
here are some specific examples
realism- it is a wonderfully complex base , reflects one's skill in capturing reality, but in it there are differences between photo referenced, real life work and no reference. ALL HAVE THEIR VALUE AND IMPORTANCE! from photos you can learn alot, gain analytic skills, develop an attention to

Sadly what confuses me are people writing up “Shots Fired!” comments under the artwork. That makes no sense to me. Is it because he draws “sexy” things and people just assume that I’m against “sexy” things cuz I make feminist-slanting comics from time to time? If that’s their beef, then they’re idiots and lack simple comprehension skills necessary to form accurate conclusions based on things I’ve said. Especially since I’ve said that not only do I like sexy artwork and characters, but that I like JJ’s work and have no issues with it what-so-ever. Anyway... ENJOY THE CUTE CARTOON!
So there’s this YouTuber named Sam Pepper who does viral prank videos. Recently he did a series of videos where he pinched the butts of various people, both men and women. In the videos it appears unprovoked and very invasive of random st

Bell$ and Whi$tle$You remember when mobile phones used to just do one thing: be a phone? Then they could text. Then they could take photos. Then they could connect to the internet.Bell$ and Whi$tle$1 year ago in Personal More Like This
People pay hundreds for the latest iPhone, which does a ton of things on top of being a phone, and which is why I DON'T OWN ONE!
I carry a phone because I might need to make a call.
Don't think that I'm some sort of Luddite that takes offence at all the bells and whistles they bolt onto the little boxes. I'm not. I just have no use for them, and so, I don't want to pay for them.
I can go into my local phone emporium and pick up a device that is a phone and only a phone for £19.99 (or even less!). No camera, no internet access, just a crappy little green screen that displays a number.
It's a phone, nothing more.
Which brings me to the next generation of consoles.
As far back as I have desired them, they have cost around the £100 – £200 mark at launch, even when they started doing things they didn't need to, like play DVDs/Blue

I’ve been doodling some jokes about my experiences with Skyrim. I’m sure the answer I’ll get is an emphatic “yes” but I wanted to ask all the same. Should I post those? Right now they’re just pencil sketches and I don’t know if any of them are worth slaving over to completion... I’m open to suggestions or advice.
Are there any other sandbox style games like Skyrim? I mean, in that I don’t need to do the main quest to have fun. That the world is huge and I can do whatever I want. And that doesn’t revolve around scarface worshipping in an urban location. I’m trying to catch up on a lot of the games I missed initially. Not sure what I should be checking out, but if you’ve read my Skyrim journals you’ll know how I play and what I like. Just no GTA crap.
This show weirds me out. Is it just me, or are the Crystal Ge

'Why Are We Even Talking About This?'I get that phrase a lot, that and "over react much?" whenever I bring up ANY issue, be it from a video game, politics, or whatever. There seems to be a lot of people who just don't wanna talk about anything at all, and would much rather these discussions just not exist so they can get on with their lives.'Why Are We Even Talking About This?'1 year ago in Personal More Like This
You'll be unsurprised to learn that I don't agree with that wisdom. In my books, if you don't do anything, nothing is going to happen. If there's an injustice in the world somewhere and you stay silent, that injustice isn't going to fix itself. It will just keep happening. That, my friends, is complacency.
Then of course there are those people who don't believe that the world will ever change, therefor there's no reason to try, and actively try to stop anyone who dares to stand up for something. I can't begin to describe how annoying that mindset is to me. It's almost sadistic in it's very nature, by actively trying to stop people from making the world a better place by being dismissi

Fabric, thread, machines, paints, wood, tools, thermoplastics, LEDs, mould castings, brushes, dyes, wigs, make-up, contacts, boots, prosthetics, convention tickets, travel expenses, luggage, skin care, gym... the list goes on and on. Every single cent we earn, we constantly throw it all back into making our beloved costumes and feeling good for a few hours while stressing for months prior-hand. Non-cosplayers may not get it, but we do. For us, it's not a sacrifice. The chance to hone our creative spirit and create something from nothing is a rewarding life experience. Some think that the cost of an outfit is more valuable compared to medication and psychological sessions.
But like it not, we've all gotta come to a conclusion that the hobby must come to an end for us one day, and to have some money saved up for your next step in life is a greater advantage than having nothi

Can't really understand the mentality of people that set out to cause digital vandalism.
Angsty, pathetic little minds, so stunted on the creativity front that the only way they can feel any sense of accomplishment is by undoing someone else’s efforts?
I just can't think that....small.
You can do any number of things with your time, any number of wonderful things to make your mark on the world. If all you can come up with is doing something to make another person’s life more difficult: you’re a bit of a prick.

Hello.Wow. 25, 474 messages (236 notes). My inbox is freaking me out.Hello.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Just a short message to say: sorry for disappearing for so long. My personal life was quite turbulent for a while, and I needed to take a hiatus from the internets to address those issues and have some much needed time away. Things were resolved, some major changes were experienced, and life is pretty fucking great now -- with the exception of exam stress. I'm in the middle of sitting what I hope to be my final law examinations ever. If all goes well, I can happily draw for the rest of my life and finally pursue art & design.
I recently began updating my blog. Pop over there, if you'd like.
Otherwise, I'll eventually have a major gallery overhaul here. (There is a LOT more artwork on my blog, if you'd like to take a browse.)
If you wish to contact me, I'd advise you
New Year and New MoonI don't seem to update my journal much. I try to only speak when I have something to say, but that doesn't always work out.New Year and New Moon10 months ago in Personal More Like This
I suppose the new year is just a number, but what isn't? Maybe it would be more correct to say that the new year and the changing of the calendar is a sort of wrapper or container for a lot of different hopes and feelings for the future. By abstracting these thoughts they may be a little easier to share with one another. It's an irony of existence that communication sometimes depends on not saying things, or at least not letting words sabotage thoughts. Peculiar, but who am I to argue?
There's a link at the top of the page that says 'You're Not Alone.' Very well meaning I'm sure, but it invokes some odd feelings in me. There's certainly worse things, but I'm sure it doesn't seem like it at times. I usually don't comment on such matters, as it carries a threat of presumption on my part. I don't really know what anybody else is going through, or what it means to the
The Fear of ArtI just want to take a moment to share some emotional stuff, as an act of catharsis, and hopefully to re-iterate that we are not alone in our fears, because I know a few people who share these fears with me. Despite how isolated you can feel..The Fear of Art9 months ago in Personal More Like This
The one thing I was never prepared for when I became a full time artist was the amount of fear I find attached to my work and my day to day activity.
I have done various forms of study for 6 years, while working on art in-between, getting various jobs and doing intern work. I have been full time for almost a year now. I've have been selling art and taking commissions since high school.
I am afraid that no matter how hard I try and search and seek, paint and motivate, work to get better, that it will never be enough. That I will wake up in 5 years time to realize I can't get to the level of artistry
I strive for, and will never be able to sustain it as a job. And that I'll have wasted a large chunk of my life o

Paranoia and a sense of impending doom.
The "party game" I just picked up should do the trick.
Each player gets a Nerf gun, the name of a target and the location in the house where they have to shoot them at some point over the course of the evening.
Nothing says "Christmas" like an assassination contract.
.....yes. I have been playing Hitman too long.
The Day of The Doctor is at hand.....As a long-time Doctor Who fan, I'm kind of excited over this. The Day of The Doctor is at hand.....1 year ago in Personal More Like This
****theories that may turn out to be spoilers****
"The name I chose was the Doctor. It's like a promise you make.", that's what the 11th Doctor said, shortly before a hitherto unseen Doctor appears.
My theory is that this was Doctor 8.5.
"He's the one who broke the promise."
We know that, as of the 9th incarnation, the Doctor is the last Time Lord standing after the final Time War against the Daleks. This conflict ended with the Doctor using some device/mechanism known as "The Moment", which saw about the destruction of both his own race and the enemy.
If "Doctor" is a promise, then I think genocide does a fairly good job of breaking it.
John Hurt's "Doctor" is the Doctor..... but not.
Might No 9 Female Robot DebacleNot sure how I missed this but a couple days ago one of the kickstarter people attached to Keiji Inafune’s “Mighty No. 9” project has caused a bit of controversy. It seems she tweeted that she would have liked for Mighty No. 9’s designs to be female. And then the internet exploded on her for trying to further her “feminist agenda.”Might No 9 Female Robot Debacle10 months ago in Personal More Like This
You know... I keep harping on these issues because of idiotic shit like this. I mean, seriously? It’s not even a THING. She said she would have LIKED it if the character designs were female, not that she was trying to FORCE her agenda on anything. Clearly from the design art the character is already male to begin with, so what are people worried about? There’s literally no need to get angry over this. It was someone’s OPINION about something they were working on.
Granted, from what I understand of the debacle, she didn’t handle herself well with the uproar, but frankly I’m more forgiving about
New 3-D Peanuts Movie... but why?No. Just... NO!New 3-D Peanuts Movie... but why?7 months ago in Personal More Like This
Look... It’s incredibly commendable that Blue Sky (A studio who’s talent is sadly grossly ignored by the general public) is able to re-create almost perfectly the art style of Charles Schulz with computer graphics. My main problem is... WHY? Why does it have to be 3-D? Why does it have to be CGI? Ever heard of Occam’s Razor: “The simplest solution is often the best?” Why work so hard emulating a hand drawn art style in 3-D instead of just doing it HAND DRAWN? For all their hard work, this looks like a 2-D Peanuts cartoon minus the outlines so... why not just animated in 2-D and don’t use outlines??? You can even apply a post faux 3-D effect over it to achieve basically the exact same results you get here so... Why?
To be fair, the movie looks like it’s going to be very faithful to the original series and probably will be very cute. I just don’t understand why it needs to be 3-D.
So What is it that Gamers Want?Over the past several weeks gamers have been whining incessantly about” journalistic integrity” over the supposed “scandalous” incident involving Zoe Quinn which may or may not have actually happened at all.So What is it that Gamers Want?2 months ago in Personal More Like This
Zoe Quinn was accused of sleeping with journalists to get positive reviews for her game... which wasn’t true. While it’s entirely possible that she did sleep with games reviewers while cheating on her current boyfriend, there’s no real evidence that that translated into positive attention for her game. And frankly, that’s not really any of our business is it? A person’s personal sex life isn’t anything WE, gamers, should be concerned with.
But weather or not you believe the rumors, the thing that gamers seem to want NOW is to “rid games journalism of corruption,” which begs the question... what corruption? I understand that there’s this idea that if a game journalist donates money to a game on, say, Patre
