i have seen in my life many artists who proclaimed they want to develop their skills, and kept bashing on everyone and everything on the way....and for some reason those guys never got anywhere...
here is why..
there is a value to different approaches, different styles. realism, manga , cartooney disney, my little pony, furries....don't waste your time tryint to bash any of the stuff you don't personally like
you are missing out, bigtime!
see there is a reason why that stuff is popular. and by that i mean on the visual side. so instead of flaming , trolling and bashing, try understanding the inner workings of it.
here are some specific examples
realism- it is a wonderfully complex base , reflects one's skill in capturing reality, but in it there are differences between photo referenced, real life work and no reference. ALL HAVE THEIR VALUE AND IMPORTANCE! from photos you can learn alot, gain analytic skills, develop an attention to
Might No 9 Female Robot DebacleNot sure how I missed this but a couple days ago one of the kickstarter people attached to Keiji Inafune’s “Mighty No. 9” project has caused a bit of controversy. It seems she tweeted that she would have liked for Mighty No. 9’s designs to be female. And then the internet exploded on her for trying to further her “feminist agenda.”Might No 9 Female Robot Debacle2 years ago in Personal More Like This
You know... I keep harping on these issues because of idiotic shit like this. I mean, seriously? It’s not even a THING. She said she would have LIKED it if the character designs were female, not that she was trying to FORCE her agenda on anything. Clearly from the design art the character is already male to begin with, so what are people worried about? There’s literally no need to get angry over this. It was someone’s OPINION about something they were working on.
Granted, from what I understand of the debacle, she didn’t handle herself well with the uproar, but frankly I’m more forgiving about
The Day of The Doctor is at hand.....As a long-time Doctor Who fan, I'm kind of excited over this. The Day of The Doctor is at hand.....2 years ago in Personal More Like This
****theories that may turn out to be spoilers****
"The name I chose was the Doctor. It's like a promise you make.", that's what the 11th Doctor said, shortly before a hitherto unseen Doctor appears.
My theory is that this was Doctor 8.5.
"He's the one who broke the promise."
We know that, as of the 9th incarnation, the Doctor is the last Time Lord standing after the final Time War against the Daleks. This conflict ended with the Doctor using some device/mechanism known as "The Moment", which saw about the destruction of both his own race and the enemy.
If "Doctor" is a promise, then I think genocide does a fairly good job of breaking it.
John Hurt's "Doctor" is the Doctor..... but not.

They set up a new one. One which they use to rattle off whatever flatulance they believe passes as worthwhile commentary in the real world, most likely in the wake of mummy and daddy slapping them on the wrist over something - angsty, juvenile pricks that they are.
And juvenile they must be, as anyone with a mite more experience would realise that any weight you hope your words might have is completely lost when someone visits your "slander" profile and reads the numbers "0 Deviations", "0 Favourites", "0 Watchers", "No Journal entries", etc.
It renders your words as vacuous as your gallery.
So if you're going to type stuff like "I feel like some of the smut you draw takes away from the credibility of your art as a whole." or

New 3-D Peanuts Movie... but why?No. Just... NO!New 3-D Peanuts Movie... but why?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Look... It’s incredibly commendable that Blue Sky (A studio who’s talent is sadly grossly ignored by the general public) is able to re-create almost perfectly the art style of Charles Schulz with computer graphics. My main problem is... WHY? Why does it have to be 3-D? Why does it have to be CGI? Ever heard of Occam’s Razor: “The simplest solution is often the best?” Why work so hard emulating a hand drawn art style in 3-D instead of just doing it HAND DRAWN? For all their hard work, this looks like a 2-D Peanuts cartoon minus the outlines so... why not just animated in 2-D and don’t use outlines??? You can even apply a post faux 3-D effect over it to achieve basically the exact same results you get here so... Why?
To be fair, the movie looks like it’s going to be very faithful to the original series and probably will be very cute. I just don’t understand why it needs to be 3-D.

my review of new wacom cintiq...if you have a desk and don't move it around?
if not... WELCOME TO HELL!
o0lder models used to come with a metal plug connector it was strong, stable and worked perfectly.
new ones come with this flimsy piece of crap that keeps losing contact which often makes your computer forget that you even have a tablet forcing you to restart
not just that but the driver is a mess and often forgets it can orientate the screen for left handed use... being a leftie, it is quite important to me
so yeah...buyer beware.
luckily my boss at top cow found me the currently discontinued lenovo x230t so soon i will be back at full force
and then i will take an axe...take this wacom behind my building...and reenact a scene from the shining
aaanyhoo, should post the next strip in a week, will be posting some wipshots, maybe even some making of videos as i want to try

Hello, Random Person. As I was walking down the street, a driver who I didn't recognise tooted their horn and called out "Jolly Jack!".Hello, Random Person.1 week ago in Personal More Like This
Unfortunately it was a pretty busy road, so they couldn't stop for me to ask how or where they knew me from. If they were referring to me as "Jolly Jack" it has to be a member of the internet crowd, but B3TA or DevArt? I've met many from the former and there's enough photo-evidence in my gallery for a member of the latter to easily identify me.
Well, random person, if you're reading this: Hello. You found me.

Unfortunately I only just found it, but it was posted early 2012 and without a link or name or something, so I am quite sure Mr. Royo doesn't know that I exist ^^
But still, I thought that is soo cool *happy* and wanted to share that experience with you

you noticed that my output was significantly lower...well... in the number of strips, but taking into consideration the much longer strips of chapter 4, difference is not that drastic.
there was a reason for this. i kept alluding to a family health crisis. i prefer to keep these things to myself
but now that this is behind us, i can say what made a mess of the year
my mom was diagnosed with a severe heart condition. day before book 1 came out she was admitted to hospital to have stents implanted and the procedure was a success.

The Danger of UrgencyJournal time!! I apologize for the length of this post, but I think it's important for artists, especially newer artists, to consider. Hopefully it will be of some use to you in your artistic journey. The Danger of Urgency6 months ago in Personal More Like This
SO... ConceptArt has been sending out emails to promo their study programs with little snippets of advice, some of them are good but one of them that came the other day really irks me. The first thing on their list is, "Study with a sense of urgency"
Now... this is my opinion, but I've heard similar sentiments from many other artists and creators who I would consider, "successful" in their field. And, in my opinion, "Study with a sense of urgency" is the absolute worst advice anyone could give to a beginner.
Yes, you need to work hard. The arts are a competitive field, and you need to push yourself if you want to climb the ladder. BUT in all of your hard work beware of mind sets like:
-"If I don't get good fast my dream job will disappear."
-"When this artist was my age they were still

Can't really understand the mentality of people that set out to cause digital vandalism.
Angsty, pathetic little minds, so stunted on the creativity front that the only way they can feel any sense of accomplishment is by undoing someone else’s efforts?
I just can't think that....small.
You can do any number of things with your time, any number of wonderful things to make your mark on the world. If all you can come up with is doing something to make another person’s life more difficult: you’re a bit of a prick.

Theatrics aside, it made me ponder on why Britain has this villainous reputation, and I started to compile a list:
The British Empire was the biggest drug-dealing organisation in history and made a fortune selling opium to China. In the mid 19th century, when the Chinese Emperor tried to stop them, they sent in The Nemesis – basically the Death Star of the era – which proceeded to decimate the entire Chinese fleet. Then they stole Hong Kong.
In an emergency, such as a disaster or terror attack, an intelligence committee is convened. Its codename is “COBRA”.
The British military’s communication network is called “Skynet
Lost Nazi Treasure TrainI keep thinking that it’s amazing there are still lost treasures in the world, but I really shouldn’t. Human civilization, when it’s not being neglectful or forgetful, has a tendency to shoot first and ask questions later, leading to things being misplaced indefinitely. If an ancient hoard is found, it was not buried with the intent of it being hidden long term. It only remained there because everyone who knew about it ended up dead.Lost Nazi Treasure Train3 months ago in Personal More Like This
Take the Staffordshire Hoard, discovered in a field in 2009. This was an Anglo-Saxon trove that contained what archaeologists and academics generally refer to as a “sh*t-ton” of gold. It was most likely buried while the owners were on the run from someone, with said owners either being killed or unable to return, not because a hole in the ground was considered a bank in ancient times.
Being on the lam, you ditch what’s slowing you down, especially if what yo

Yeah, this'll end well.....Let me try to wrap my head around this: certain parties in the U.S government don't like the idea of assisting the poor, of the county they serve, with health care expense, because of the cost.Yeah, this'll end well.....2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Their "solution" to this is to shut down the government (something which isn't possible in any other nation on the planet), which will cost more, decrease public spending, lower the demand for imports, damage global economy and generally tarnish the U.S's international reputation even further?
The rich making others suffer in an effort to get their own way.
I believe that's called "tyranny".

Jonathan Strange and Mr NorrellIt’s been a while since I’ve felt I could recommend any output from the BBC, given their tendency to axe shows that I’m enjoying (EG: Ripper Street), but a rather splendid series has just concluded that fans of magic and period drama will no doubt enjoy as much as I did.Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell5 months ago in Personal More Like This
Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell is set during the Napoleonic era and follows the titular characters as they attempt, and succeed, in the resurrection of English magic. With arguments over what kind of magic is “respectable”, deals with rogue fairies, murder, conspiracy, and the employment of magic in the fight against the French; these two magicians gradually become enemies.
It’s apparently adapted from a book, but I don’t have time to read much fiction these days, so its appearance was a surprise and delight!
I shall say no more. To do so would spoil it. It’s well worth a watch.
Thor: The Dark WorldA quick, spoiler-free review: it's goooooood.Thor: The Dark World2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I'd actually say that it's the best paced super-hero flick since the first Iron Man film.
Incredible Hulk fizzled in the third act.
Iron Man 2 saw every character turn either really wet or go full retard.
Thor felt a bit like a plodding, 80s, movie-with-a-message.
Captain America just felt like an extended prologue for The Avengers.
The Avengers didn't really get going until the finale.
And Iron Man 3 occupies a middle ground between Iron Man and Iron Man 2.
I'm certainly not saying any of those films were bad, it's just they felt saggy in areas.
Thor: The Dark World has a perfect pace. It's engaging right from the get-go and doesn't trip up once (that I noticed).
It is part of the Marvel cinematic series, though, so there are many, many nods and references to previous films (one of Loki's disguises is brilliant), which may leave newcomers lost.
And, of course, if
So What is it that Gamers Want?Over the past several weeks gamers have been whining incessantly about” journalistic integrity” over the supposed “scandalous” incident involving Zoe Quinn which may or may not have actually happened at all.So What is it that Gamers Want?1 year ago in Personal More Like This
Zoe Quinn was accused of sleeping with journalists to get positive reviews for her game... which wasn’t true. While it’s entirely possible that she did sleep with games reviewers while cheating on her current boyfriend, there’s no real evidence that that translated into positive attention for her game. And frankly, that’s not really any of our business is it? A person’s personal sex life isn’t anything WE, gamers, should be concerned with.
But weather or not you believe the rumors, the thing that gamers seem to want NOW is to “rid games journalism of corruption,” which begs the question... what corruption? I understand that there’s this idea that if a game journalist donates money to a game on, say, Patre

The AvengersYou know that giddy, gleeful feeling that renders you incapable of doing little more than giggle like a lunatic? The Avengers4 years ago in Personal More Like This
I pretty much had that from start to finish during the Avengers film (Which was released on Fair Blighty's shores as "Avengers Assemble" thanks to the past efforts of Steed and Peel).
There have only been a handful of movies that invoked that kind of response in me: Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, Abram's Star Trek, Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes and the first Iron Man film are those which immediately spring to mind.
Indeed; Avengers is THE best Marvel movie since Iron Man. Ace cast, brilliant story, hysterical script, a scene that will stab anyone that's followed the films leading up to this point right through the heart and a fair few more surprises.
Chief among them being; how the hell did the Hulk become such a f**king awesome character after so many naff films?
I'm gonna go see this one again!
