USEFUL STUFFHere's some nice useful things to check out (if you havent already) that i like to look at to improve or just watch for inspirationUSEFUL STUFF3 months ago in Personal More Like This
FYI i learn more from watching things so most of these are gonna be video tutorials, artists talking while painting and timelapse paintings, since i prefer analyzing peoples workflow and try it out than straight tutorials that tell you what to do (not there's anything wrong with it though )
LEVEL UP: https://www.youtube.com/user/levelupsessions
omg.... the amount of stuff you can learn from these amazing artists is crazy! i suggest watching from session 1 till the latest. you cant miss a thing these guys say, plus these guys are pretty fun most of the time. its a nice light, but informative bunch of videos
Marc Brunet is a great teacher! i really enjoy how he explains things and just his process in general. really good to listen to and pretty entertaining to watch

Disney vs Lucas ArtsIf ever you bring up Disney in a conversation, people immediately recite tired old issues with the company that haven't been true for a long time. For example, complaining about the excess of half-assed sequels. That was part of Michael Eisner's regime. When he left the studio the quality Disney was producing suddenly skyrocketed considerably. Likewise the excessive merchandising and branding of Disney related products has also ceased to be as all-consuming now that Eisner is gone. In fact, a lot of the main issues people had with Disney during the 90's and early 2000's was a result of Eisner.Disney vs Lucas Arts2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Since Eisner left, the Disney studio has done a REMARKABLE job in clearing their name of many of the atrocities they had committed during his regime. They promptly turned the animation department around and have even begun doing 2-D animated films again after Eisner said "no." Granted, at the moment 2-D is still in hiatus, but the situation isn't as dire as it use to be and there's still promise

5 Reasons to WriteI wrote a blog once that urged comic artists to try writing their own books. I held back a bit on what I said--Punk Rock Jesus hadn't come out yet, so I didn't feel like I had the proper authority to really speak up.5 Reasons to Write2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Since then, there's been a lot more discussion about the etiquette of publishers toward their freelancers, the recent rise of creator owned books, and the effects of Hollywood moving into comics (or vice versa). And as friend of mine at Newsarama pointed out recently, I'm one of a few guys who's found a middle ground--not only because I'm writing and drawing my own book, but because my OGN is partially owned by DC Comics.
Certain events of the last year have created new concerns within our industry. Do you still need to work for big publishers if you want to "make it"? Do they deliver a better product than creator owned books? Are the Big Two treating creators as fairly as they've always been? Between the rise of digital comics and comic-based movies, are creators getting
Speed inking demoI got some requests to see the inking demo I gave at this years SDCC, so here it is posted up on YouTube [link] . I inked a panel from Superman #3, on sale today as a matter of fact, and penciled by Jim Lee.Speed inking demo1 year ago in Personal More Like This
You'll see that I compressed about 45 minutes in real time down to about 3 minutes, but there are bits and pieces shown in real time. It was all inked with a brush just to speed up the process a bit. Let me know what you think...

advice on some stuff to look up before tutorialsso im gonna be starting to make some tutorials soonadvice on some stuff to look up before tutorials2 years ago in Personal More Like This
before that you should look up some informations
you probably noticed that in my work it is often hard to distinguish if im using a zbrush model or just painined it all in photoshop
reason for that is simple.
my realism rendering is greatly based on 3 d rendering processes.
by this i mean as i learned 3d i became aware of the stuff we usually visually take for granted.
qualities of material, importance of reflectivity, ambient occlusion, and subsurface scattering.
to any 3d artist these are everyday terms, while 2d artists usually paint them without often even being aware of wheat they are really doing
for instance , a 3d artist will at any given point use 2 types of shadows. cast shadows from a direct lightsource, and ambient occlusion shadows which naturally appear more intensively the closer planes of an object are together.
i can get into this and make it a long discussion , but easier w

it's number 6 on the list...
you guys can disregard the previous info i typed below, thanks

so like as not, i have to go replenish my stock of pens early. The pens and blank bags to draw on are all obtained at the same place, so i don't want to keep running to same place so many times when water supply to my place is still not confirmed to be consistent :iconforeveraloneplz:
bag will look something like this:

CREATORS FIRSTI've been working towards this for six years.CREATORS FIRST4 months ago in Personal More Like This
After struggling to make print work at Mam Tor (great reviews, lots of love, but prohibitive costs, too few sales) my big questions were:
How can I publish the stories I want to tell in a direct way, online?
How can I build a platform that lets OTHER people tell their stories too - because this needed to be about much more than just me.
It needed to be a grass-roots revolution.
It needed to be something that creators wanted, that served them.
In short it had to be a need.
The questions after that are many:
If you're in a digital space, what are the possibilities?
Can you build a digital audience first that can determine the need/want for print versions, and then facilitate that?
Can the creators keep their copyright?
How do you rethink the marketplace - and actually, CAN you?
And now here we are, and the tool has been built.
Creators of all
UV Unwrapping Video Tutorial for MayaMade this today. First time making a video tutorial, so be gentle - hah. I honestly hadn't realized, before today, that I could full-screen capture with my imac just built in with the OS. It's all awesome and easy and stuff. Voice Over added with iMovie. Sorry if its a bit rushed - I didn't exactly plan it out all that well. heh. ^_^;;UV Unwrapping Video Tutorial for Maya2 years ago in Personal More Like This

Turtles Production Shut DownVICTORY!Turtles Production Shut Down2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Paramount has shut down pre-production on the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot over "script problems".
Translation; Paramount realised that if they continued down the path Bay was going, fans would probably burn their studios to the ground.
With luck (and a dollop of common sense) the project will be shelved altogether and the IP left fallow until competent directors/producers are brought on board.
I'm going to pretend my little campaign helped with this
Artscape: Comic Book HeroesThe ABC TV channel here in Australia (different to the ABC in the USA) on their Artscape show on Tuesday nights has had a mini documentary series called 'Comic Book Heroes.'Artscape: Comic Book Heroes1 year ago in Personal More Like This
It's all about Perth Australia publishers Gestalt Comics headed by Wolfgang Bylsma, and featuring the talents of artists Justin Randall, Gary Chaloner, Tom Taylor, and Emily Smith amongst others. All of whom I've met at one time or another of course being local in Perth as well.
The documentary follows the guys over the course of 2 years as they try to break into the US comic market by attending sdcc and other cons and expand the company profile through media deals. (They got their comic "The Deep" picked up and made into an animated series premiering in 2014!) plus interest in their series "Changing Ways" from the same people who are producing The Walking Dead! Negotiations are still ongoing there apparently...
Now if you missed the show don't fret. It's available on the ABC's iView online on demand (and free to v

okay, so after a swarm of questions many of which left me with my jaw on the floor... i realized something...
people are afraid of pushing a button to see what it does
okay, to backtrack first. i am self taught in photoshop, had no books had no tutorials, had a borrowed i think 7... dunno which was before cs2 when i started, i learned it by ....pressing a button and seeing what it does
i explored, i tried stuff out.
i had no teachers no schools no education on this stuff
i saw a button i pressed it.
that is how about 9 years ago when i first decided to try and apply digital coloring to early pages of ravine, i was dabbing paint on a page. i came to the point where i had to paint a waterfall. so , just for fun i tried putting scattering on the foam brush i made, a simple thing. and i was gonna see if smudge could be scattered. it had a weird side effect.
