HOW TO ADD MUSIC TO A PICTURE:I have been asked by a butt load of people "How do you add music to a picture?".HOW TO ADD MUSIC TO A PICTURE:1 year ago in Personal More Like This
So here, have the explaination I just gave someone:
I use Adobe Flash CS4 Professional, but it should work for most, if not all, Flash varieties.
Open flash. (hurrdurr.)
Make sure you change the size of the stage to the size of picture you're using by going into properties and changing the dimensions.
Then File > import > import to stage
After that, make sure you go to library and right click on the picture file that automatically shows up.
Go into properties and select 'Allow smoothing' otherwise it will be all blurred and nasty.
Then go File > import > import to library and select the sound file you want.
When it shows up in the library, right click and go into properties.
Make sure you selct the highest quality of sound it has, choosing the highest bit rate (mine says 160kbps)
After that, drag it onto the stage.
Press ctrl + enter to test the movie.
If everything is right, go file > export > export movi
PE: Textured brushesThis article is an introduction to textured brushes in digital art painting. I'll cover making your own brushes as well as the use of textured brushes. You'll also find some great art and brush sets at the end of this article. This is my first time writing for projecteducate, so I hope you'll find this helpful!PE: Textured brushes2 years ago in Art Features More Like This
Textured brush vs. texture
First of all, what is a textured brush? And why should you bother with it when you can just slap a nice texture over your painting to make it look more interesting?
Alright, let's start at the beginning. "Textured brush" is a brush created out of a texture, so basically a texture in brush-form. Whether it's made with help of a pre-existing image (see texture above) or some wild scribbling on your tablet (like the example brush above) doesn't matter. Texture + select + define brush = texture
You ever get mad at your fandom?Well… in my case, not mad, but more… perplexed? You ever get mad at your fandom?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I normally don't post stuff like this, but I think it's actually very important. This is in regards to this post that has the original posting http://kitsuneverse.blogspot.com/2012/11/cosplaytony-harris-rants-on-female.html. (Very interesting points from the responder, kistuneverse!)
I've seen a huge backlash against Harris, but also a backlash against guys in general in the fandom. I don't think it helps anyone if we categorize fanboys as a collective. Not all guys/fanboys/geeks/nerds/casual observers are the same, and casually lumping them together seems counterproductive.
I mean, it's awesome that we're talking about this notion against the female side of the fandom, as it does exist and does needs recognition, but talking to these fanboys as if they're a singular entity is exactly what that Tony Harris dude is doing in regards to female cosplayers and the female fandom in general. If you, male or female, actually believe that he speak
Background TipsHey all! I've gotten a few people asking me about advice for drawing backgrounds. So instead of being a true gentleman and writing each person back separately, I figure it's easier to tackle this with an nice, impersonal journal post! Maybe one day I'll shoot a tutorial or something to actually demonstrate what I'm talking about, but for now a quick list will have to do.Background Tips3 years ago in Personal More Like This
*Before I start, a quick disclaimerby no means do I have "it" figured out. My opinions on backgrounds and how to tackle them are always changing. And a lot of what I think is based on the artists on whose shoulders I stand upon. Feel free to disagree with any of this.
Remember those point-and-click adventure games from the 90s? I loved those games! Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis, Flashback, Full Throttle, Space Quest, Hero Questadventure games blew me away by how beautiful, imaginative and expansi
Disney Every Month Challenge - Sleeping BeautyAlright, so for February I decided to go with Sleeping Beauty in my Disney Every Month Challenge for Disney Princess movies. When I tried to think of February Aurora was the first princess that came to mind for some reason. I guess the pink dress...not sure. But that is who I thought of first, so I decided to go with it.Disney Every Month Challenge - Sleeping Beauty1 year ago in Personal More Like This
I like Sleeping Beauty...I never got to see it when I was a child so it doesn't really have anything to do with nostalgia. The first time I watched it was actually a few years ago, I was in my 20's...lol! I remembered watching it and actually feeling kind of at awe at the artwork...with it being an old movie I guess I wasn't really expecting much as far as artwork and such, but it had a really nice feel to it...I genuinely enjoyed it. I thought the story was very sweet and charming and I loved Aurora's hair for some reason. I didn't realize then that the villain from this movie, Maleficent, would soon grow to become one of my favorites especially after p
Seniority Announcements - December 2013Seniority Announcements - December 20131 year ago in DeviantART Announcements More Like This
This article marks the latest additions to the dizzy height of Senior members in our community. With just over 1000 deviants holding the highly saught after Senior Member accolade -- it's clearly a moment that deserves recognition.
So what does it take to become a Senior? That's a question many have asked and have never really been able to get a straight answer on. Some have gained Seniority as a thank you for their time spent as a Volunteer, or to recognise their contribution to a particular project or collaborative action. Some have gained Seniority because of their community spirit, providing help and assistance to many other deviants and taking time out to promote the work of others in the community.
Some people have received Seniority because of their artistic endevours, having a positive influence on their peers by sharing resources, providing constructive criticism and by being a voice that stands out
Need references?Although drawing and painting "from life" is way much more effective and efficient than drawing from photos (I'll be writting a separate journal about this soon, no worries), you simply can't have a person to model for you every time you want to create something. And there are situations when you don't exactly know how to place that bloody hand or if the foot is drawn correctly. Similiar issues can happen with architecture, perspective... with everything you draw. Then, when you look for help, you may stumble upon Stock gallery and you find awesome things. Knowledge is Out There, Grasp It!EDIT 2/13/14:Knowledge is Out There, Grasp It!1 year ago in Art Features More Like This
Due to a few concerns that I'm overgeneralizing through my use of the word ignorant, I wanted to amend some things:
1. This journal was not written out of a pretentious attitude, in fact it's quite the opposite. I feel the need to share knowledge, and I do whenever I can. I could never be upset with those who truly do not know where to start when it comes to enriching their minds.
2. This journal is not about lording knowledge above those who do not yet possess it.
3. This journal is not about bashing someone for the barriers that can impede or prevent their desire or ability to absorb new information.
4. I do not encourage people to "just Google it," that is why resources are listed at the bottom.
5. If you would like to contribute a resource, please link it in your comments.
I’ve been hearing the phrase “I don’t know what ____ is” a lot as of late and it’s been a little irksome, and here’s why: we are currently living in

What is YUM!Jinka?
Yum!Jinka is an artbook project filled with original artwork that I would like to put together with the help of the DA community. The book will be published and available online through amazon and buying directly through me. The theme of the artbook is Food & Drink Gijinka's.
What is a gijinka?
Gijinka (擬人化) is a Japanese word meaning "humanoid", "personification", or "anthropomorphic". Basically, your taking a food or a drink and turning it into a character!
Here are a couple of examples:
''DON'T SCRAP THAT!''Two of the best pieces of advice I ever got considering art and drawings came from the very same person: A graphic designer who often stopped by at the comicshop. We spent a lot of time chatting about techniques and most of my knowledge about fibonacci and golden ratio I have because of him.''DON'T SCRAP THAT!''7 months ago in Personal More Like This
As for the points of advice:
One was that I should just take my time with my drawings and paintings. If I don't have a deadline, there is no need to finish it within a fixed timeframe. And I can work on it as long as I want, till it's finished. Or till I get bored with it. And never finish it and start something new. It's not like I'm bound in any way, right?
The second tip was to never shy back from starting from scratch. Whatever the reason might be. Just because I have just spent hours on that one detailed bit does not mean that the final image will look great if I build it around my initial hours of work. It can. But it does not have to.
So, I often I scrap drafts, paint over a painting or s

My BrushesHey All!My Brushes7 months ago in Personal More Like This
I've been asked to share my brushes quite often now and I figured I might just write a journal about it. I'm not going to share my entire brush set for one simple reason and that is that I bought some of them. Some for example are Marta Nael's brushes that I got for preordering her (absolutely amazing) artbook Lux last year. I don't think it would be fair to just upload them. However, I spent some time collecting good and free brush sets that I can reccommend. I don't use all of them and I wasn't able to dig out all the brushes that I downloaded somewhere over the last 1,5 years but it's a start.
You can obviously just download them without reading a word of what I have to say about those brushes and I won't judge you if you do so, I'm quite lazy myself. However, I'd like to say one thing in advance which I find really important: Those are great brush sets, they can be helpful and they certainly have helped me a lot but if you are a beginner then you might want

An excellent set of Manga Studio 4 tutorials, ranging from the Debut to the EX version. Brought to you by Doug Hills in conjunction with Smith Micro. Bookmark on YouTube.
This series is good because the speaker is articulate, and the actions on the screen follow commands. It is difficult to find quality tutorials that are not merely process pieces or showcasing artwork, but this set goes above and beyond -- it actually focuses on the tools of the program and illustrates how they can be applied! Enjoy, and make sure to thank him on his video pages!

"I want to be a better artist."This is a sentiment I hear often on dA. It's usually followed by a question regarding how one should go ABOUT becoming a better artist."I want to be a better artist."4 years ago in Personal More Like This
I've no doubt made journals like this in the past, but here's another one. This page was in dire need of an update, either way. : )
I could probably talk your ear off for a mile and a half about why I should be the last person you ask for creativity-boosting advice. Aaaand I have my reasons for this, but that's not really what anyone who writes me wants to hear, I think. It's just a fair warning. I'm not an accredited teacher, I was far from the most capable person at my college, I've made a metric crapton of mistakes, and I am nowhere near where I'd like to be in my own personal artistic endeavors. If that doesn't bother you, well, keep on reading!
The best way I could aid anyone interested in bettering themselves would probably be by giving you the advice that inspires me the most. Stuff I've heard from frie

FYI i learn more from watching things so most of these are gonna be video tutorials, artists talking while painting and timelapse paintings, since i prefer analyzing peoples workflow and try it out than straight tutorials that tell you what to do (not there's anything wrong with it though )
LEVEL UP: https://www.youtube.com/user/levelupsessions
omg.... the amount of stuff you can learn from these amazing artists is crazy! i suggest watching from session 1 till the latest. you cant miss a thing these guys say, plus these guys are pretty fun most of the time. its a nice light, but informative bunch of videos
Marc Brunet is a great teacher! i really enjoy how he explains things and just his process in general. really good to listen to and pretty entertaining to watch

What is it like to be a part of the senior hut? How do you feel receiving the Medal? How did you receive the news?
I'm honestly floored that I've been recognized here and included into the 'senior hut'. It means so much to me! I truly adore this place and have put a lot of time and love into being an active member. This community has been just incredible over the years- so to be apart of this is like getting a big warm hug, haha. When I logged in on the 31st of December 2013 with a wall of 'congrats' from folks, I was terribly confused. I can safely say I never did much research on Senior Members, and kind of assumed it was like a "Hey, you've been here a long time, good job!" Though, it's a lot more than tha

Welcome to my new serie : "From Resources to Fractal Art".
What is really interesting in the fractal community, is the way deviants interact between each others to share their knowledge with tutorial or Parameters Pong (Sharing Parameters to tweak the main fractals).
Therefore, in this article I'm going to select a resource randomly and show you how to start from a tutorial to achieve a wonderful fractal.
This week, let's take a look at Fiery-Fire & SaTaNiA tutorial : Splits Elliptic Fractals
We were hanging in the :#aposhack:,ponging some params and then a wonderful idea came to us ! What about explaining this simple technique to the deviants.
When we released this tutorial, we honestly didn't think it was going to be such a loved technique!
Some deviants even says : "It is a elliptic-splits mania on DA"
This tutorial is a step by step o
