Somehow, this silly page has hit 9 million views!
Just to be absolutely clear, I do not think the views make me any better than anyone else. I mean, I'm sure some of those are from people who don't even like me. But I guess my point is that it's crazy to imagine that this page has been opened up that many times, and I can't help wondering where all these hits have come from. And I just feel so grateful that a select few people in those millions have come to be irreplaceable friends to me.
It's been a wild ride with all of you guys through all this time. To me this isn't just a page where I simply showcase my artwork or the cosplay photos my friends and I come up with. This site has opened up so many opportunities for me, and has introduced me to some of the most wonderful people I've met in my life.
It's been a journey, and my interactions with the people here have taught me more than I can express.
Apart from that, one thing I absolutely did not ex

I'm still a bit overwhelmed by the responses to my previous journal entry, but I will do my best to make proper replies to some of you soon. But to everyone Thank you all for constantly giving me reasons to be grateful.
I've got a bit of free time today before another Christmas party so I thought I'd post a holiday journal with miscellaneous moments from the past month or so. Thank you so much to Miss-It-Girl for extending my subscription so I can keep sharing these photos with you guys!
The holiday decor at home was a joy to look at and photograph.
I enjoyed the added details of these swirly twigs that make me think of Tim Burton landscapes.
After all these years, the sight of sparkling lights and shiny Christmas ornaments and even the smell of tinsel and synthetic trees gets me in the mood fo
Before Cosplay Makeup: Basic Skincare! Before I write about cosplay makeup, I figured I should discuss some skincare basics. I feel it's important to know how to take care of your skin before you start putting gunk on it! This is really very basic so I think those of you with your own regimens already might be bored by it! I'm not an awesome guru wizard thing, but I'll just share some general concepts and products that work for me. It's different for everybody, but I hope this will be helpful! For your sreference, my skin type is combination: normal to dry with an oily nose. Hahah! Not my T-zone, just my nose!
Recently, my male friends had gotten very interested in makeup for cosplay and asked me for tips on how to go about it. (I think this was fueled by Kaname's visit to our country for Cosplay Mania '12, and they saw how beautiful he looks. ) I decided to ask them about their skincare regimen to figure out what products might work for their skin type.

First time we wore our our Disney cosplays was for Toycon 2011:
The weekend after, a few of us got together to do a studio shoot because we were just excited, and I wanted to finally try out a pseudo movie poster photo treatment for cosplay photos. It was definitely a challenge. But it made me really happy to show my friends how the final images turned out.

On misunderstandings about cosplayThis is a topic I've been meaning to talk about for quite a while now. I finally got the motivation to when Sarah sorairo-days emailed me to share my thoughts on what cosplay means to me, and what I feel it really means to be a cosplayer despite all the misconceptions about the hobby. It's for this article on Random Nerds, in which Sarah shares her side of it as well.On misunderstandings about cosplay3 years ago in Personal More Like This
Over the years, I've witnessed how cosplayers are constantly looked down upon, which makes people apprehensive towards it. It's such a shame because it's a wonderful and rewarding hobby which brings people together. And in general, I am firmly against making anyone feel bad about doing something they want to do.
I am aware that the concept of cosplay might be too much for some individuals, but our intention definitely isn't to get all up in everyone's faces and say everyone should cosplay or whatever. We just want to promote a

Many, many months ago last July (that's how late this entry is) a cosplay event was held in the most beautiful location that the local cosplay community has ever seen. Fernbrook Gardens the wedding & events destination which you might recognize from our Kuroshitsuji http://behindinfinity.deviantart.com/gallery/29228688 and Harry Potter cosplay photoshoots http://behindinfinity.deviantart.com/gallery/31767781
It was around that time that the world was getting ready for the final Harry Potter movie, so my friends and I decided that perhaps it was about time to push through with our plans to cosplay Harry Potter characters. Parts of Fernbrook Gardens also looked like Hogwarts so we figured it would be appropriate.
Photos are from my friends, some from albums I was tagged in on Facebook, and some from my own camera.
Here I am with most of my friends that I went to the event with, along with Arnel akagii2004 whom we met that day as he was

Nearing the screening date, I received a wonderful surprise from :iconup-ame: UP-AME.org.
They invited me to be a guest and cosplay competition judge for Swordplay, a Rurouni Kenshin fan event, and also to the special advanced screening days before the official screening date. I've often thought that if there is one cosplay I would like people to remember me by, it would be Kenshin. I was very honored and touched that they had thought of including me to a day celebrating a series that means so much to me, and a movie I had been looking forward to for ages.

Sorry I couldn't update sooner! I've been wanting to make this post since right after Fanime but after that I spent a couple of days catching up on sleep and going around San Francisco, then it was time to fly off to Maryland to visit my cousins who dragged me over to New York right after I got there. The actual presentation was actually longer, and with lots more examples, but here is a condensed rundown of what we talked about, fo

One day, the most clever of the artists, who also had the biggest head, created a magical tool called the 'airbrush' tool. And it was wonderful. With this new tool he painted portraits and artwork on his naked hiney. All the other naked tribesmen and uncensored women rounded round his round posterior to gaze and marvel at the creations.
One of the tribesmen spoke... 'I wish to do the same as our most clever, and big-headed kinsman, where can I illegaly download this airbrush tool so that I too may paint portraits of my favourite anime characters, game characters and ponies?' The most clever of the artists replied, and he shared his secrets, and soon, all of the tribe, with various levels of skill, adorned their peachy posteriors with pedantically painted portraits of people, and a

That's why I've been severely lacking in updates over here, but my Facebook page, Tumblr and Twitter have been getting a fair bit of action. I feel like on those sites I can just thought vomit and blurt things out.
This page though has significant sentimental value to me because it was the starting point for so many things. I wouldn't even know where to begin. Intro, and some bad old pictures
For those of you who have the patience to read for some extra info!
When I started cosplaying, I didn't think makeup was such a major part of it. I was so hesitant to even put eyeliner because I'd think, "This character is a guy, I shouldn't look like I'm wearing makeup!" And I guess I was silly enough to think I looked enough like the characters I chose without doing anything to my face?
I can't find more pictures of my really old cosplays (which is just as well, hahah) from the time I didn't want to use makeup apart from these:
I cosplayed as Haku from Naruto. I don't remember wearing any makeup for this. It doesn't show too well on these pictures but I saw some others where the natural redness of my lips made it look like I was wearing lipstick even if I wasn't. I felt it made me look more feminine than I should. Haku is still a guy after al

Mermaids- the New Wave In Pop Culture?
Over the past few years mermaids have been swimming there way into pop culture leaving their mark in the art world, the literature world, and the movie world. Women are taking up jobs educating and performing as mermaids while costume designers and cosplay artists are enjoying the challenge of creating realistic looking tails. This journal feature is going to share with you a little bit of the "mermaiding" world while drawing reference to the many ways in which mermaids are popping up on deviantART!

Why Can't Warner Bros Get Their Act Together?Over the weekend at SDCC, Warner Bros announced that the new Man of Steel sequel will also feature Batman. The team-up movie will be followed by a Flash movie and then a Justice League Avenger's style team-up movie. This has a lot of people scratching their heads and wondering what exactly is wrong with DC and Warner Bros respectively. Why Flash and not Wonder Woman? Why add Batman when reports have been told that Christian Bale doesn't want to return and we'll likely get a completely new Batman? Why do a team-up so soon after the first Man of Steel movie instead of fleshing out Superman's modernized world better? Why Can't Warner Bros Get Their Act Together?2 years ago in Personal More Like This
Well... to put it bluntly I don't think Warner Bros really gives a shit about comic book themed movies and they're only going through these motions because they feel like they HAVE to rather than because they WANT to. Just take a look at their track record.

First off, Warner Bros has a problem of relying too heavily on the people th

The “painterly style” has been a highly requested tutorial subject matter due to it’s increasing popularity to digital artists. Not sure what this style is referring to? Check out the Painterly Style Reference Board. The style has become even more popular from games that focus heavily on this art style such as Bastion or to digital artists like Purplekecleon, who we Interviewed last year. It has a bold and fresh look that relies on color and working with balancing the different hues to create value. The style is recognizable by 3 different factors: use of color shifting, visible brushstrokes, and fantastical ligh

10 ARTIST TIPS from yours truly.10 DETAILED ARTIST TIPS - From my own view (related to deviantART):10 ARTIST TIPS from yours truly.2 years ago in Personal More Like This
I am too lazy to write a "long" version so I'll throw out tips from time to time. I have been asked for advice many times so here's some advice now! Follow my facebook to get more info!
1. Once you have a "very good" customer base, try putting into your commission agreement that you do not accept rushed ordered and can take as long as you'd like.
This is risky because you're not making promises to your commissioners. In order to "keep" my customer base, while still not putting pressure on myself, I "reward" patient commissioners by simply doing detailed coloring. The secret to having this agreement be successful is making your final drawing "worth the wait", however long that may be for you is your decision.
2. Time management & pricing. This is just something I do, I spent around 5-10 minutes roughing sketching a comm. I do not spend
